Nikel ferrit nano parçacıkları, surfaktant destekli hidrotermal teknik kullanılarak, kontrollü parçacık boyutu ve boyut dağılımı ile sentezlenmiştir. Manyetik nano parçacıkların yüzey modifikasyonu (3-chloropropyl)triethoxysilane ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Modifiye edilen nano parçacıklar yüzeyden başlatılan polimerizasyon tekniği kullanılarak PVP ile aşı polimer yapısında kaplanmıştır. Elde edilen spinel ferritlerin kristal yapısı ve boyutu X-Işını Kırınım Analizi (XRD) ve Taramalı Elektron Mikroskopu (SEM) ile araştırılmıştır. Nano parçacıkların ve nano kompozitlerin manyetik özellikleri Titreşimli Örnek Magnetometresi (VSM) kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Elde edilen NiFe2O4 nano parçacıklarının ortalama parçacık boyutu 24 nm’dir. Oda sıcaklığında süper paramagnetik karakter ve yüksek doygunluk manyetizasyonu göstermektedir. Gerçekleştirilen sentez stratejisinin biyo-uygulamalarda kullanılacak gelişmiş malzemelerin sentezinde etkili bir yöntem olabileceği düşünülmektedir.

Objectives: In our study, we aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and cancer frequency in patients referred to our pediatric oncology outpatient clinic for lymphadenopathy. Methods: The charts of patients admitted to our pediatric oncology outpatient clinics for lymphadenopathy between January 2014, and December 2016 were retrospectively reviewed in this study. Age, gender, duration of complaints, previous therapies, systemic signs and symptoms, lymph node characteristics and laboratory findings were recorded. The frequency of malignancy was calculated. Results: One hundred thirty-four patients (34 girls) with a median age of six years (range four months-17 years) were included in our study. The majority of the patients (98%) had localized lymphadenopathy and the head and neck region was the most common site of involvement (87%). The median long-axis diameter of lymph nodes ranged between 0.5 cm and 5 cm (median 2 cm) by physical examination. Twenty-one patients (15.6%) had lymph node biopsy. Four patients had ruptured epidermal cyst, lymphangioma, pilomatricoma and ectopic thymus. Of the other biopsies, nine patients were diagnosed with reactive LAP, four with lymphadenitis, and four with Hodgkin’s disease. The lymphoma patients had lymph node size greater than 2.5 cm and the duration of lymphadenopathy was longer than four weeks. Three out of four patients had systemic clinical findings accompanying lymph node enlargement. Conclusion: Three percent of the patients with lymphadenopathy who were referred for suspected malignancy received a cancer diagnosis. This rate, which is too low for a reference center, suggested that the patients might be referred to the pediatric oncology outpatient clinic without a thorough evaluation in primary health care.

The surface modification of magnetic nanoparticles was achieved using (3-chloropropyl)triethoxysilane. Modified nanoparticles were grafted with PVP using surface initialized radical polymerization. Crystal structure and crystallite size of the produced spinel ferrites were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The magnetic properties of nanoparticles and nanocomposite were examined using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The NiFe2O4 nanoparticles with average size of 24 nm, were exhibited superparamagnetism and high saturation magnetization at room temperature. The synthesized strategy is thought to be an effective method in the synthesis of advanced materials to be used in bio-applications

Kobalt, nikel ve çinko ferrit nano parçacıkları hidrotermal sentez yöntemi kullanılarak sentezlenmiştir. Sentez koşullarının elde edilen spinel ferritlerin kristal yapısı, parçacık boyutu, örgü parametreleri, mikroyapı ve manyetik özellikler üzerine etkileri XIşını Kırınım Analizi (XRD), taramalı elektron mikroskopu (SEM), Enerji-dağılımlı X-ışınları spektroskopisi (EDX) ve Mapping yöntemleriyle belirlenmiştir. Hazırlanan ferritlerin parçacık boyutu 25-70 nm arasında değişmektedir. Ayrıca, nano parçacıkların manyetik özellikleri titreşimli örnek magnetometresi (VSM) kullanılarak araştırılmıştır. Manyetik özelliklerin sıcaklık ve Co, Ni ve Çinko iyon çeşidine şiddetle bağımlı olduğu gözlenmiştir. Bu örnekler yüksek yoğunluklu manyetik kayıtlama cihazlarında, yüksek kullanım potansiyeline sahiptir., Cobalt, nickel and zinc ferrites nanoparticles have been synthesized using the hydrothermally technique. Effects of synthesis conditions on the crystal structure, crystallite size, lattice parameter, microstructure and magnetic properties of the produced spinel ferrites were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and Mapping techniques. The mean crystallite size of the prepared ferrite was in the range of 25-70 nm. Furthermore, the magnetic properties of nanoparticles were investigated using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Strong temperature and Co, Ni, and Zn ions dependence of magnetic properties was observed. These samples are considered as promising materials for high density magnetic recording media.

OBJECTIVES Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) infection may lead to serious complications and death in immunocompromised patients. Although there were researches which aim to decrease complications by vaccination and antiviral prophylaxis; there is stil no definitive protocols. In this study, we wanted to determine the frequency and clinical progress of VZV infections in patients with malignant diseases in whom prophylaxis was not used routinely during chemotherapy. METHODS Datas of 30 patients (12 females, 18 males; median age 6 years; range 1 to 13 years) in pediatric oncology department who were exposed to VZV during their chemotheraphy between January 2001 and December 2004 were retrospectively examined. RESULTS In 23 of patients there was fever. Skin lesions were widespread, but they were non-hemorhogic or infected and were crusted approximotely in 6.5 days. In one patient liver enzymes were eleveted. In others systemic complications were not seen. Patients taking approximately 8 days of intravenous acyclovir were discharged from hospital without any complication. In our patients VZV infections were benignly progressed. Early treatment with acyclovir might decrease the complications. But in spite of treatment there might be seriously progressed cases. CONCLUSION In our country where vaccination for VZV is not performed routinely to healthy children; observation of large series with multidisciplinary studies of oncology and infectious diseases clinics may aid us to determine if prophylaxis is needed or not., AMAÇ Varisella-zoster virüs enfeksiyonu kanserli hastalarda ciddi komplikasyonlara ve ölüme neden olabilir. Aşılama ve antiviral proflaksiyle komplikasyonları azaltmayı amaçlayan çalışmalar olmakla birlikte kesin protokoller yoktur. Çalışmamızda proflaksinin rutin kullanılmadığı kanserli hastalarda bu enfeksiyonun sıklığının ve klinik seyrinin belirlenmesi amaçlandı. GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM Çocuk onkolojisi kliniğinde Ocak 2001-Aralık 2004 arasında tedavi görürken varisella-zoster virüs enfeksiyonu saptanan 30 hastanın (12 kız, 18 erkek; ort. yaş 6 yıl; dağılım 1-13 yıl) kayıtları retrospektif olarak incelendi. BULGULAR Hastaların 23'ünde ateş saptandı. Cilt lezyonları yaygın, ancak hemorajik veya enfekte değildi; ortalama 6.5 günde kabuklandı. Karaciğer enzimleri yükselen bir hasta dışında sistemik yayılım olmadı. Ortalama sekiz gün intravenöz asiklovir alan hastalar komplikasyonsuz taburcu edildi. Gecikilmeden asiklovir tedavisi başlanılan hastalarda varisella-zoster virüs enfeksiyonları selim seyirli oldu. Ancak tedaviye rağmen ağır seyreden vakalar olabilmektedir. SONUÇ Sağlıklı çocuklarda rutin aşılamanın yapılmadığı ülkemizde onkoloji ve enfeksiyon kliniklerinin ortak çalışmaları ile daha geniş serilerin izlemi, proflaksinin gerekli olup olmadığını belirlemede yol gösterici olacaktır.
