Herein, an efficient and scalable synthesis of 2,4-diaryl substituted chromene [43-b] pyridine derivatives, using a multicomponent reaction strategy by microwave irradiation of 4-amino 2-oxo- 2H-chromene, aromatic aldehydes, and substituted anilines is described. This synthetic strategy was found to be very useful as it follows environment benign protocol. Also it gives a good outcome in terms of yield and requires a shorter reaction time.

Background: A series of new zerumbone hydrazones 5a-f and 9a-f have been synthesized in via an in situ procedure in high yields. The structure of synthesized compounds has been confirmed using 1H, 13C NMR and HR-MS. The bioassay result showed that several compounds exhibited cytotoxic effects against three human cancer cell lines, including HepG-2, SK-LU-1, and MCF-7. Compound 9a showed the best cytotoxic effect against HepG-2, SK-LU-1, and MCF-7 with IC50 values of 8.20, 6.66, and 9.35 μM, respectively. Objective: This study aims at developing new zerumbone hydrazones as anticancer agents based on zerumbone, a natural compound wildly growing in Vietnam. Methods: A series of new zerumbone hydrazones was designed, synthesized, and evaluated for cytotoxicity against three human cancer cell lines, including HepG-2, MCF-7, and SKLu-1, using the MTT method. Results: The bioassay result showed that several compounds exhibited cytotoxic effects against three human cancer cell lines, including HepG-2, SK-LU-1, and MCF-7. Especially, compound 9a displayed the best cytotoxic effect against HepG-2, SK-LU-1, and MCF-7 with IC50 values of 8.20, 6.66, and 9.35 μM, respectively. Conclusion: The research results suggest that some compounds could be considered as leads for the future design of zerumbone hydrazones in which bio-isosteric replacements in theortho position of the phenyl ring could be performed to improve the cytotoxic activity.

In order to study the heritability and genetic parameters of antioxidant activity in barely (Hordeum vulgare L.) under salinity stress, a seven-parent half diallel (F1 crosses + parents) was conducted in the non-stress and salt stress (8 and 12 dS m-1) conditions in the greenhouse, during 2016-17, Ardabil, Iran. In this experiment, antioxidant enzymes ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured. The results showed that the salinity had increased the expression of all of the three enzymes and the activity of enzymes were differed under different salinity levels. The average degree of dominance was higher than unity for all cases, suggesting the control of traits by over-dominance. Under saline condition heritability in narrow sense (h2n) was found low to medium (0.11-0.41) but their broad-sense heritability (h2b) was estimated relatively high (0.74-0.90). The results suggested the lack of heterosis in control of these traits except for APX activity in 8 dS m-1 salinity. Results showed that in APX activity recessive alleles were favorable, in CAT activity, under non-stress condition, dominant alleles, and under 12 dS m-1 salinity, recessive alleles were desirable; although, such relations were not clearly revealed in SOD activity. Due to the importance of dominance, it was indicated that the evaluation of genotypes must be done at progressive breeding program. Based on general combining ability effects, it was concluded that under salinity, Rihane and Nosrat had favorable alleles for APX activity. In CAT activity, Nosrat had favorable alleles. In case of SOD, Afzal and Valfajr had favourable alleles. In spite of the importance of physiological traits as selection criteria in breeding of salinity tolerance, presence of large dominance effects should not be neglected and selection for these traits should be delayed until after some inbreeding.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is becoming a mainstream manufacturing process in different engineering applications, owing to its capability to build 3-dimensional parts with complex geometries, while maintaining high production speed, low cost and a minimal material waste. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), as one of the AM techniques, is frequently used in industries and research laboratories to print parts from different thermoplastic filaments. The properties and quality of the FDM processed thermoplastic parts, however, is highly restricted by the proper selection of process parameters, and it remains as a challenging task for producing defect-free 3D printed parts. On the other hand, owing to the large number of FDM process parameters with highly nonlinear and interacting effects, the experimental optimization of FDM is costly and requires mathematical predictive models. This thesis presents an integrated experimental-black box modeling and optimization framework to study the viscoelastic and tensile properties of FDM processed Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). The effect of selected process parameters (including nozzle temperature, layer height, raster orientation and deposition speed) as well as their interaction effects are studied. Specifically, in the first step, a Taguchi orthogonal array was employed to design the experiments with a minimal number of runs, while considering different working conditions (temperatures) for the final prints. The Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) as well as tensile testing were carried out to investigate the significance of the process parameters, measured by statistical hypothesis testing methods. Due to the observed complex nature of the interacting effects of the FDM parameters, a series of artificial neural networks were developed and employed to predict the propeorites of the 3D printed samples, and consequently the process parameters were optimized via a particle swarm optimization (PSO). The percent contribution and ranking of the process parameters were identified and linked to the underlying meso/micro level mechanisms, through visual inspections of the samples and a Raman spectroscopy analysis.

Pharynx as wide as 0.24x maximum width of gnathosoma, and as long as 0.7x of ventral length of gnathosomal capsule, elongate-elliptical, with sclerotized walls but without transverse striations and with pair of moderately large, ovoid glandular bodies. Postpalpal (pp) setae absent. Setae dgs subequal to vgs. Cheliceral stylets small, slender and with inconspicuous cheliceral levers. Palpi small, only slightly longer than wide, directed convergently, with pronounced bases, each with 2 processes: apical and ventral (palptarsal), and 2 fine setae. Idiosomal dorsum (average length: 185 (SD �� 20.4), width: 114 (SD ��12.2); length = 1.6x width; Fig. 9): relative length of setae (v 1: sc 2: c 2: c 1: d: e: f: h): 1: 1.8: 0.8: 0.6: 1.3: 1.2: 1.3: 1. Rostral shieldlet rounded, subtriangular in outline, 2.6x wider than long. Setae v 1 slender, sharp, separated by distance of 2x their length each from another. Prodorsal shield (PrS) rounded trapezoidal (almost semicircular) in outline, 1.4x as wide as long, with well-developed anterolateral (prodorsal lateral) lobes, with somewhat irregular posterior edge. Sensilli sc 1 clavate, with elongate globular head, covered with fine spines. Stigmata located posterolaterally of setae v 1, tracheal tubes each with poorly sclerotized atrial segments and pair of weakly defined, elongate postatrial expansions. Setae 2a inserted on apodemes 2, near their distal extremities, in distance between their bases of almost 5x their lengths. Ventral propodosomal plate weakly biconvex anteriorly, with soft angularities between trochanters I and II. Apodemes 3 strongly sclerotized, well developed laterally related to anterial extremities of trochanters III (not forming continuous sclerotized transverse stripe); apodemes 4 almost straight, extending very slightly posterolaterad of setae 3b, joining with posteromedial apodeme; latter anteriorly ended with pronounced bifurcation; setae 3a separated by transverse distance of 2.2x their length each to another. Setae 3b shorter than 3a, separated by distance of 3.3x their lengths; i.e. slightly exceeding that between 3a. Ventral metapodosomal plate with anterior extremity irregular, almost straight, and with apparent spine-like processes between trochanters III and IV. Tegula rounded subtriangular in outline, 1.5x wider than long with rounded tip. Aggenital plate divided in its posterior part. Setae ps tapering, but stiffer than other attenuate setae, sharply pointed, weakly barbed; their bases separated by distance little smaller than their lengths. Ventral plates with uniform, fine dimpled ornamentation. Legs (Figs. 13���16): proportions of free segments of legs (I: II: III: IV): 1.0: 0.9: 1.0: 0.6. Leg setation: I: 4���4��� 6(2 ��)+8(1 ��); II: 3���3���4���5(1 ��); III: 1+3���4���5. Unguinal setae u��� (and u��� on Ta I) indiscernible. Leg I: claw hooked, medium sized, similar in size to claws of tarsus II. Empodium small. Spine-like subunguinal seta s similar to setae u ' on tarsi II and III. Tibiotarsus with weak ventral bend in area of tibia, 3x as long as wide at base. Eupathidion p��� slightly shorter than p���, both located subapically, eupathidia tc��� and tc��� equal in length, located above mid-length of segment. Three tarsal setae pv���, pv��� and pl��� slender and sharp. Solenidion �� fusiform, as long as 1.3x Ta II ��. Solenidion �� 2 larger than �� 1, famulus k apparently longer than solenidia. Seta Ge l��� rather thick, pointed, barbed. Femur I without ventral protrusion. Seta Fe l��� strong, stiff; d short, stiff; both sharp. Leg II: claws medium-sized, hooked; empodium almost twice as long as in leg I. Spine-like seta pl��� absent. Seta tc��� slightly longer than other setae of segment, reaching tip of empodium. Seta Ge II l��� thick, pointed, barbed, slightly more slender than Ge I l���. Seta Fe d short, tapering. Leg III: claws weaker than, and empodium as long as that in leg II. Seta tc��� over 3x longer than other setae of segment, more than 2x length of Ta III. Seta Ge l��� as that in leg II. Leg IV: free segments subequal to femorogenu and tibia III. Femorogenu 3x as long as tibiotarsus. Femoral seta v��� longer than genual v���, both slender, slightly barbed.
