The foot and the ankle joint consist of 28 bones and numerous joints that require manymusculotendinous and neuromuscular structures for stabilization and guidance to allow for physiological gait. Throughout evolution a tremendously complex and adaptive structure has developed which allows for nowadays upright gait.Treatment of the rising incidence of sports injurieshas becomean important and increasingly complicated issue. Return-to-sports has become a frequently used slogan.
