- Abstract
The training of nursing professionals has grown increasingly complex due to technological and scientific advancements, demanding higher educational quality and fostering critical thinking. The European Higher Education Area (EHEA) has emphasized active teaching/learning methods (ATLMs), which promote critical thinking, decision-making, group work, motivation, and knowledge retention. ATLMs require teachers to adopt a guiding role and adapt their methodologies. While tools like OPPUMAUGR assess ATLM use in education, validated instruments specific to nursing educators remain unavailable, despite studies highlighting ATLMs' positive impact on nursing students. This study developed and validated the OPPUMA-NV scale for measuring nursing degree lecturers' perceptions of the use of active teaching/learning methods nursing degree at the University of Granada. The scale, completed by 381 participants (70.6% women, the largest group aged 'Between 41 and 50 y. o.'), measures six factors: The institution promotes change (14 items), Range of ATLMs (19 items), Traditional methodology (8 items), Student-centred teaching (4 items), Barriers to implementing ATLMs (9 items) and ATLMs implementation facilitators (5 items). It demonstrated high reliability (α=0.859). Descriptive analysis showed that gender (being a man or a woman) had impact on factor 2 'Range of ATLMs'. Within professional categories, had impact factors 3 ('Traditional methodology') and 5 ('Barriers to implementing ATLMs'). This tool indicated effectiveness for determining the factors that influence the nursing degree teachers' application of ATLMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) have been associated with negative health outcomes. Screening for ACEs is crucial for improving health results, however, there is a shortage of standardized tools designed for children in Brazilian Portuguese. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Pediatrics ACES and Related Life Event Screener (PEARLS) for use in Brazil. Method: The study followed a methodological design for cross-cultural adaptation and psycho-metric evaluation. The PEARLS was translated and culturally adapted following a methodology that includes translation, synthesis, expert committee evaluation, target audience evaluation, and back-translation. After adaptation, a pilot cross-sectional study was conducted at a Multidisciplinary Health Care Clinical Center and a General Hospital-Reference Center for Child and Adolescent Care to assess the instrument's internal consistency, convergent validity, content validity and test-retest reliability. Results: The PEARLS-Br versions for Children, Teens, and Teen Self-Report were developed and subjected to pilot testing with 202 subjects. Participants demonstrated excellent comprehension, with Verbal Rating Scale median scores of 4 (IQR 4-5). Internal consistency was high, with Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranging from 0.78 to 0.81. Content validity, assessed by Kappa, indicated slight to almost perfect agreement across constructs. Test-retest reliability, assessed by Spearman's correlation coefficient, ranged from 0.89 to 0.94. Conclusions: PEARLS-BR (Child, teen, and teen self-report versions) were successfully translated, culturally adapted, and validated for assessing ACEs in Brazilian children and adolescents. This tool fills a crucial gap in ACE assessment in the Brazilian context, aligning with global recommendations for screening ACEs to improve overall health outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To conduct confirmatory factor analysis and examine the convergent and nomological validity of the family APGAR among primary care users in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Methods: A diagnostic technology study evaluated the performance of a health measurement scale without using a reference criterion, following the recommendations of the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies (QUADAS-2) statement. A total of 243 Primary Care users aged >18 years from Colombia participated in the study. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and convergent and nomological validity tests were performed by comparing the family APGAR scores with the PHQ-9, PHQ-2, and HADS-A scores. Results: Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were between 0.89 and 0.91, and McDonald’s omega coefficients between 0.89 and 0.91, with adequate correlations (>0.70) for the items. APGAR presented a single factor with excellent goodness-of-fit indicators: x2 = 7.90, df = 5,
p = .16, RMSEA = 0.04, TLI = 0.99, CFI = 0.99, SRMR = 0.01, and normalized chi-square = 1.58. The analysis of the convergent validity of the APGAR with the HADS-A, PHQ-9, and PHQ-2 scales presented inverse and moderate correlations with adequate indicators of nomological validity with depressive symptomatology. Conclusion:The Family APGAR instrument shows robust unidimensional structure, adequate nomological validity, high internal consistency, and acceptable convergent validity. Background: Adjustment disorder (AD) is common among medically ill patients, yet current evaluation methods do not address the specific characteristics in this population. This study aimed to develop a measurement scale for AD in medically ill patients in Colombia and to find evidence of its validity and reliability. Methods: This was a scale development and validation study. In the first qualitative phase, items were developed. In the second phase, the content validity of each item was evaluated by patients and clinicians. In the third phase, structural validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, criterion validity, and convergent construct validity were assessed. Items were analyzed using a generalized partial credit model within an item response theory framework. Results: The Adjustment Disorder Scale for Medically Ill Patients (ETAM, for its acronym in Spanish) was developed, comprising 20 items that address the free description of stressful situations in the last 15 days and mental symptoms attributed to them. Evidence of content validity was found. The scale was administered to 512 medically ill patients, revealing a three-dimensional structure: 1) "AD Symptoms", 2) "Impact on Self-Care", and 3) "Impact on Desire to Live". Internal consistency was adequate, with McDonald's omega of 0.95 and Cronbach's alpha between 0.82 and 0.92 for its dimensions. ETAM had high test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.98). Criterion validity evidence was obtained with an independent psychiatrist's diagnosis, with an AUROC of 0.99, and convergent validity was consistent with hypotheses of correlation with other instruments with similar constructs. Discrimination and difficulty parameters were calculated for each item. Conclusion: The ETAM is a scale with evidence of validity and reliability that can be used for the diagnosis of AD in medically ill patients in Colombia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FECAL microbiota transplantation , *GUT microbiome , *CLOSTRIDIOIDES difficile , *DATA extraction , *CONTENT analysis - Abstract
Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is increasingly used for diseases associated with a disrupted intestinal microbiome, mainly Clostridioides difficile infection. Encapsulated FMT is a patient-friendly application method that improves accessibility and convenience. Capsule processing may be standardised, but validation protocols are warranted. This review aimed to describe published validation methods for encapsulated FMT. Original studies reporting using encapsulated faecal formulations were included, regardless of indication. Studies were excluded if they did not address processing and validation or used non-donor-derived content. We conducted a comprehensive scoping review, implementing a systematic search strategy in PubMed, Embase and Web of Science. Processing data and validation methods were registered during full-text analysis and combined to create an overview of approaches for assessing quality in encapsulated FMT processing. The searches identified 324 unique studies, of which 44 were included for data extraction and analysis. We identified eight validation covariables: donor selection, pre-processing, preservation, oxygen-sparing processing, microbial count, viability, engraftment and clinical effect outcomes, from which we constructed a model for quality assessment of encapsulated FMT that exhaustively categorised processing details and validation measures. Our model comprised three domains: (1) Processing (donor selection and processing protocol), (2) Content analysis (microbiota measures and dose measures) and (3) Clinical effect (engraftment and clinical outcomes). No studies presented a reproducible capsule protocol; their validation strategies were sparse and divergent. The validation of FMT capsules is heterogeneous, and processing requires relevant standardisation protocols, mainly focusing on capsule content. Future studies should report validation covariables to enable accurate comparative assessments of clinical effects. Plain language summary: A comprehensive evaluation of quality aspects to consider when developing encapsulated donor faeces for faecal microbiota transplantation Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a life-saving therapy, based on the transfer of intestinal microbiota from a healthy donor to a patient to treat disease. Encapsulation of donor faeces eases the application of FMT, but methods to evaluate the quality of encapsulated FMT are not standardised. Based on a systematic literature review, we here provide a comprehensive overview of factors that may influence the quality of encapsulated FMT. We describe three main domains that together form a model for standardisation: 1. Processing (donor selection and processing protocol), 2. Content analysis (microbiota measures and dose measures) and 3. Clinical effect (engraftment and clinical outcomes). These domains may be addressed in future studies that report the use of encapsulated FMT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AbstractOur study aimed to compare the quality of patient self-collected capillary samples with venous blood samples. Additionally, we assessed whether patients with rheumatic disease are both capable of and willing to perform capillary self-sampling through subjective and objective assessments. This research explores the future potential of at-home self-sampling. Patients with rheumatic diseases were asked to perform up to four supervised self-collected capillary blood samples, followed by a standard venous sample performed by study personnel. Anti-rheumatic drug treatment monitoring parameters, including biochemistry and hematology, were analyzed using Cobas 8000 and Sysmex XN-9000, respectively. The agreement was evaluated by Bland-Altman plots and compared to critical difference limits. Study personnel and patients answered a survey questionnaire after every visit to evaluate feasibility. In total, 21 patients completed 53 paired capillary and venous samples from November 2019 to December 2020. We found a strong correlation (
r > 0.87) and good agreement for most parameters; platelets showed the poorest agreement. Patients experienced little pain, found self-sampling easy and reported no serious complications. Hemolysis affected 12/53 capillary biochemistry samples, and 5/53 capillary hematology samples coagulated. The good agreement for most parameters and excellent feasibility encourages the potential for capillary self-sampling of DMARD monitoring parameters, relevant limitations were hemolysis and aggregating platelets. Purpose: To translate and culturally adapt the Core Outcome Measures Index for the back (COMI-back) into Thai and to evaluate its psychometric properties in Thai-speaking patients with low back pain (LBP). Methods: The translation process followed a standardized forward–backward method with two independent translators, followed by synthesis and back-translation. An expert committee reviewed the translations for cultural and conceptual equivalence. Pre-testing was done with Thai patients to refine the questionnaire. The validation study included 131 patients with LBP, who completed the Thai COMI-Back along with other validated questionnaires like the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and EQ-5D-5L. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Construct validity was determined by correlating COMI scores with those of reference scales. Results: The Thai COMI-Back exhibited strong reliability, with Cronbach's alpha values from 0.89 to 0.93 and ICC values over 0.80 for all domains. Construct validity was supported by significant correlations with reference scales, with Spearman's rho values ranging from 0.47 to 0.84. Floor and ceiling effects were acceptable for most items, with notable exceptions for symptom-specific well-being and work disability. Conclusion: The Thai COMI-Back shows strong psychometric properties, making it suitable for clinical and research use in Thailand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTERPROFESSIONAL collaboration , *MEDICAL personnel , *TRANSLATING & interpreting , *FACTOR analysis , *LEGAL evidence - Abstract
We aimed to perform cross-cultural adaptation of the Interprofessional Collaboration Scale (IPC-BR) and to evaluate evidence of its validity for the Brazilian hospital context. The research consisted of six steps: translation of the instrument into the new language, synthesis of the translated versions, back-translation, synthesis of the versions in the original language, evaluation of the syntheses by an expert committee, and pilot testing or pretesting and validation of the internal structure of the items of the instrument. The pilot testing involved 4 translators, 14 judges, and 30 healthcare professionals; the validation of the internal structure involved 686 professionals including nurses, physicians and physiotherapists. Translation and cross-cultural adaptation revealed no significant changes or discrepancies in meaning from the original model. Exploratory, confirmatory, and parallel factor analyses confirmed that the Brazilian scale is unidimensional. We found unidimensional characteristics and satisfactory factor loadings, with good levels of reliability, which makes the instrument provide consistent and reliable internal evidence for measuring the construct. Thus, the possibility of using it to assess interprofessional collaboration among different target groups in the Brazilian scenario was confirmed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: As the population ages, the demand for social and health systems grows, especially due to chronic diseases and dependency. Informal caregivers, particularly women, face significant burdens including physical, emotional, and financial strain. Current caregiving assessment tools focus on those already in caregiving roles or health professionals, with no tools for the general population without prior caregiving experience. Purpose: This study aimed to develop and validate the Spanish COMCAPCARE scale, which assesses the skills and abilities necessary to care for dependent individuals, including those nearing the end of life, among individuals without prior caregiving experience. Methods: A scale validation study was conducted. A Delphi panel of 13 experts developed an 18-item scale, which was administered to 253 participants over the age of 18 who had not previously served as primary caregivers. Main measurements were psychometric analyses, including principal components analysis (PCA) and reliability testing using Cronbach's alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient. Correlation with a single-item self-assessment of caregiving competence was verified through Spearman's rho. Results: A total of 253 participants (73.9% women) with a mean age of 33 years (SD 13.7) participated. The scale identified 3 factors: financial and work situation (4 items), adaptability (8 items), and care and communication (6 items). The total scale demonstrated high reliability (α = 0.84) and significant correlations between the scale's total score and a single-item self-assessment of caregiving competence (r = 0.693, P <.001). Conclusions: The Spanish COMCAPCARE scale provides a reliable and valid tool for assessing caregiving competencies in the general population without caregiving experience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The objective of this study is to create a Turkish adaptation of the Plantar Fasciitis Pain/Disability Scale (PFPS) and to evaluate its construct validity and internal consistency. Method:The Turkish version of the PFPS was developed in accordance with the established translation and back-translation processes. The translated version of the scale was administered to a sample of 138 patients diagnosed with plantar fasciitis (PF). Validity was also evaluated using the Turkish version of the Foot Function Index (FFI). The test-retest reliability of the PFPS was determined by administering the scale to 138 patients on two occasions. Findings:The test-retest reliability was investigated through the utilisation of a paired t-test, an intraclass correlation coefficient analysis (ICC), and a Cronbach's alpha score. Construct validity was investigated through the utilisation of Pearson's correlation analysis. The Turkish version of the PFPS exhibited high internal consistency and test-retest reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.844, ICC = 0.997), as well as good construct validity, demonstrating a significant correlation with the FFI (p <.001). Furthermore, a notable difference was observed between the lower and upper 27% groups (p = 0.000). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the PFPS has been demonstrated to be a reliable, valid, and responsive instrument for patients with PF. Nevertheless, further studies involving a greater number of age groups, genders and languages are required to confirm the responsiveness of the PFPS and to provide further evidence of its full validity. Abstract Background The healthcare system is currently facing challenges in transitioning to a more integrated, patient-centered care. China has implemented various practical exploration and pilot programs in developing an integrated healthcare service system. However, there remains an absence of appropriate instrument to assess integrated care from the patient’s perspective, particularly one that aligns with China's national conditions. Methods Using a literature review, Delphi methods, a pilot study involving 171 chronic patients in Guangdong Province, and the analytic hierarchy process, we developed and validated the Chinese Patient-Centered Integrated Care (CPCIC) with a weighting system. Results The results of exploratory factor analysis indicated CPCIC scale had robust structural validity. The overall Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.868, signifying excellent internal consistency. The final scale included four first-level indicators (dimensions): services responsiveness, services convenience, services continuity and services coordination and 14 s-level indicators (items). The assigned weights of these dimensions were 0.1070, 0.2926, 0.4155 and 0.1849, respectively. Conclusions The four-dimension, 14-item CPCIC scale with a weighting system was successfully developed and validated. The scale provides a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating the degree of integrated care from the patient’s perspective, and has potential applications in informing the reform of China’s healthcare system to enhance patient-centered care.

The final scale included four first-level indicators (dimensions): services responsiveness, services convenience, services continuity and services coordination and 14 s-level indicators (items). The assigned weights of these dimensions were 0.1070, 0.2926, 0.4155 and 0.1849, respectively. Conclusions: The four-dimension, 14-item CPCIC scale with a weighting system was successfully developed and validated. The scale provides a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating the degree of integrated care from the patient's perspective, and has potential applications in informing the reform of China's healthcare system to enhance patient-centered care. The heightened focus on patient safety and the quality of nursing care in intensive care units underscores the necessity for reliable tools to evaluate nurses’ ethical awareness. This study was aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Ethical Awareness Scale in a sample of intensive care nurses. Data were collected from 249 intensive care nurses in Türkiye using the Turkish version of the 18-item Ethical Awareness Scale. The data were then analyzed using Rasch analysis. The Turkish version of the Ethical Awareness Scale demonstrated unidimensionality and an acceptable fit for the Rasch model. The person reliability and item reliability were 0.63 and 0.92, respectively. The Turkish version of the Ethical Awareness Scale was found to be a psychometrically valid and reliable instrument for measuring the ethical awareness levels of intensive care nurses. SUICIDE risk assessment , *PSYCHOMETRICS , *TEST reliability , *ITEM response theory , *ATTEMPTED suicide - Abstract
Background/Objective: This study aimed to validate the eight-item Suicidality Scale (SS) in Spanish in a Colombian sample to aid in suicide risk assessment, given the pressing need for accurate, accessible tools in resource-strained settings. Methods: A sample of 313 participants, drawn from both clinical and community settings, was used to evaluate the psychometric properties of the SS through tests of internal consistency, item response theory (IRT), and comparisons with clinical risk evaluations. Results: The SS demonstrated strong psychometric properties, with high internal consistency (ω = 0.96) and a significant correlation with clinical risk assessments (r = 0.84). Model fit indices confirmed a unidimensional eight-item structure with low error rates, while item response analysis revealed strong item discrimination. No differential item functioning was observed by gender or psychiatric diagnosis, supporting its consistency across demographics. Items on past suicide attempts and desire to live were excluded as they did not improve scale performance. Variability within risk levels suggests that individual differences may require clinical judgment. Conclusions: The findings validate the Colombian–Spanish SS as a valuable tool for suicide risk assessment, usable in both self-report and clinician-administered formats. Its brief, culturally adapted structure supports its utility in resource-limited environments, providing an accessible option for rapid screening. While the SS effectively categorizes general risk, further longitudinal studies are recommended to enhance its applicability in guiding clinical decisions and long-term risk management. Orthorexia Nervosa (ON) is characterized by an excessive preoccupation with healthy foods accompanied by the avoidance of self-declared unhealthy options, yet it remains unrecognized in major diagnostic guidelines. The Düsseldorf Orthorexia Scale (DOS), a 10-item self-report questionnaire using a four-point Likert scale, assesses the obsession with healthy eating. This study evaluates the reliability and validity of the TR-DOS in the Turkish context and estimates the prevalence of ON among university students. Several studies have shown that translating the DOS into various linguistic groups may exhibit different models of DOS scores. However, the psychometric properties and model fit of the DOS have not yet been investigated in Turkish-speaking populations; to address this gap, we assessed the psychometric properties of a Turkish translation of DOS (TR-DOS) in a sample of 425 university students in Türkiye. The TR-DOS revealed a 7.3% ON prevalence and a 9.0% risk of development. Weak positive associations were observed between TR-DOS total scores and BMI (
r = 0.152,p = .002). Exploratory Factor Analysis confirmed the validity of TR-DOS (KMO = 0.867) with satisfactory reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.854). Confirmatory Factor Analysis indicated an acceptable fit for the TR-DOS model (χ2/df = 3.127, RMSEA = 0.071, SRMR = 0.046, IFI = 0.955, CFI = 0.955, GFI = 0.956, TLI = 0.932). Moderate positive correlations were found between TR-DOS and eating disorder measures (EAT-26:r = 0.428,p < .001; EDE-Q-13:r = 0.430,p < .001). The findings demonstrated that the TR-DOS is both culturally appropriate and psychometrically adequate for Turkish university students. It is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing obsessive healthy eating behaviors in this population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

The aim of this research is to describe the adaptation process and psychometric properties of the "LGBTIQ+ Themes in Literature Education" (LTiLE) scale, the first instrument aimed at measuring attitudes toward the inclusion of LGBTIQ+ content in the teaching interventions of future literature educators. The study seeks to identify empirical evidence of content, construct, convergent, and discriminant validity, as well as internal consistency reliability, and the absence of bias in assessments based on participants' gender identity. Following the attainment of a high level of significant agreement on the quality of its content, an Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis were conducted using a random sample of 592 Spanish recent graduates from programs related to Primary and Secondary Education teacher training. Both discriminant and convergent validity estimates yielded optimal results. Nomological validity was established through gender-based score comparisons, revealing significantly more favorable scores for cisgender women and other gender identities. A similar differential item behavior based on gender and measurement invariance according to the teaching stage were observed. Internal consistency was evaluated using ordinal α, McDonald's ω, composite reliability, and complementarily, Cronbach's. Psychometric evidence confirms LTiLE's validity, reliability for prospective literature educators in non-university education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and purpose: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is associated with high rates of unemployment, and barriers for work are essential to identify in the regular follow-up of these people. The current study aimed to culturally adapt and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Norwegian version of the Multiple Sclerosis Work Difficulties Questionnaire-23 (MSWDQ-23). Methods: Following backward and forward translation, the Norwegian version of the MSWDQ-23 (MSWDQ-23NV) was completed by 229 people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Validity was evaluated through confirmatory factor analysis and by associating scores with employment status, disability, and health-related quality of life outcome measures. Convergent validity was checked by correlating MSWDQ-23 scores with alternative study measures. Internal consistencies were examined by Cronbach's alfa. Results: A good fit for the data was demonstrated for the MSWDQ-23NV in confirmatory factor analysis, with excellent internal consistencies also demonstrated for the full scale and its subscales (physical barriers, psychological/cognitive barriers, external barriers). The MSWDQ-23NV subscales were related in the expected direction to health-related quality of life outcome measures. While higher scores on the physical barriers subscale was strongly associated with higher levels of disability and progressive MS types, higher scores on all subscales were associated with not working in the past year. Discussion: The Norwegian MSWDQ-23 is an internally consistent and valid instrument to measure perceived work difficulties in persons with all types of MS in a Norwegian-speaking population. The MSWDQ-23NV can be considered a useful tool for health care professionals to assess self-reported work difficulties in persons with MS. The Norwegian MSWDQ-23 scale should be examined for test-retest reliability and considered implemented in the regular follow up at the MS-outpatient clinics in Norway to support employment maintenance. To provide an overview and examine determinants of the cardiovascular data quality in the DNPR. Methods: We performed a systematic literature search of MEDLINE (PubMed) and the Danish Medical Journal, and identified papers validating cardiovascular variables in the DNPR during 1977– 2024. We also included papers from reference lists, citations, journal e-mail notifications, and colleagues. Measures of data quality included the positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value, sensitivity, and specificity. Results: We screened 2,049 papers to identify 63 relevant papers, including a total of 229 cardiovascular variables. Of these, 200 variables assessed diagnoses, 24 assessed treatments (10 surgeries and 14 other treatments), and 5 assessed examinations. The data quality varied substantially between variables. Overall, the PPV was ≥ 90% for 36% of variables, 80– 89% for 26%, 70– 79% for 16%, 60– 69% for 7%, 50– 59% for 4%, and < 50% for 11% of variables. The predictive value was generally higher for treatments (PPV≥ 95% for 92%) and examinations (PPV≥ 95% for 100%) than for diagnoses (PPV≥ 80% for 71%). Moreover, the PPV varied for individual diagnoses depending on the algorithm used to identify them. Key determinants for validity were patient contact type (inpatient vs outpatient), diagnosis type (primary vs secondary), setting (university vs regional hospitals), and calendar year. Conclusion: The validity of cardiovascular variables in the DNPR is high for treatments and examinations but varies considerably between individual diagnoses depending on the algorithm used to define them. - Abstract
Background: Subsite and tumor stage-related heterogeneity in studies on optical tracer-guided sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) has led to inconsistent results, limiting the applicability and wider adoption of this technique. Methodology: This single-center, prospective validation study conducted in January and February 2022, included 29 consecutive patients with early-stage, node-negative SCC of the buccal mucosa undergoing methylene blue-guided SLNB followed by modified radical neck dissection (considered the reference standard) to determine the identification rate and test validity of SLNB, and secondarily, the clinicopathological factors associated with node-positivity using binary logistic regression. Results: SLN identification rate with methylene blue was 93.1% with 66 SLNs retrieved in 27 patients, at a median 2 (IQR 2–3) nodes per procedure. Additionally, 644 nodes were grossed in the neck dissection specimens of 29 patients (median yield 24; IQR 17.5–26 per procedure). Overall accuracy of SLNB was 96.3% (95%CI 81.03–99.91%), with sensitivity and negative predictive value of 83.3% (95%CI 35.88–99.58%) and 95.5% (95%CI 77.16–99.88%), respectively. The only factor independently predictive of occult nodal involvement was pathological depth of infiltration (hazard ratio 3.312; 95%CI 1.040–10.546, p = 0.043) which at 6.5 mm was 100% sensitive and 91.3% specific (area under curve 0.975; 95%CI 0.925–1.000). Conclusion: Methylene blue-guided SLNB may be considered a viable alternative to evaluate the neck in early-stage buccal mucosal SCC with acceptable test validity and reliability. Background: Grip strength is widely used as a surrogate parameter for functional status. The current gold standard, the JAMAR
® Hydraulic Dynamometer (JAMAR® Hydraulic), presents challenges for individuals with painful finger joints or low grip strength. Therefore, the objective of this observational study was to assess comparability across the JAMAR® Smart, the Martin Vigorimeter and the gold standard. Additionally, the intrasubject and intersession reliability of all three devices were examined, which are essential for quality control before generating normative data. Methods: Forty healthy participants (aged 37.0 ± 11.3 years) were included, and a subset of 20 participants was randomly selected for retesting. Grip strength testing involved five attempts per measurement device. Results: Intrasubject reliability was excellent (ICC3,1: 0.91–0.97), and a strong correlation (ICC3,1: 0.90–0.98) was found between the first attempt and the best of five as well as between the best of two or three attempts and the best of five, demonstrating robust reliability across multiple measures. Intersession reliability was good to excellent (ICC3,1: 0.85–0.97) across all three devices, which was confirmed by Bland–Altman analysis. The PCC (r) revealed moderate to very strong agreement with the current gold standard JAMAR® Hydraulic (r = 0.68–0.98), with increased differences between the Martin Vigorimeter and the JAMAR® Hydraulic measurements, particularly at low and high values. Conclusions: The proposed devices are suitable for test-retest analysis with 2–3 attempts. Despite high correlations between all three devices, the diverging levels of agreement between the Martin Vigorimeter and the established gold standard warrant caution against using these devices interchangeably. Purpose Methods Findings Conclusions Implications for nursing practice To clinically validate the NANDA International (NANDA‐I), nursing diagnoses (ND) of “Ineffective breastfeeding (00104)” and “Readiness for enhanced breastfeeding (00106)” in postpartum women and their infants, and to determine the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive value of their elements.Cross‐sectional study was conducted from June 2023 to April 2024. Recruitment happened at a public teaching hospital, approaching dyads from the neonatology outpatient clinic and the rooming‐in. The researcher applied the tool, assessed the dyad and medical records. Statistical analysis was based on accuracy measures and inferential statistics. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee. The sample comprised 205 Brazilian dyads: 57 (27.80%) presented “Ineffective breastfeeding (00104),” whereas 203 (99.02%) presented the “Readiness for enhanced breastfeeding (00106).” “Unsustained sucking on the breast” was the most sensitive defining characteristic (DC) for the “Ineffective breastfeeding (00104).” All the DCs of “Readiness for enhanced breastfeeding (00106)” showed relevant sensitivity.Findings validated the presence of NANDA‐I ND “Ineffective breastfeeding (00104)” and “Readiness for enhanced breastfeeding (00106)” in a sample of dyads, demonstrating accuracy in such population. This is an essential step to raise the level of evidence of the studied ND from NANDA‐I terminology. Furthermore, this study has potential to contribute to improving nurse's clinical reasoning on breastfeeding, as well as to highlight that women can present simultaneously the two diagnoses, so naming them is useful to identify mothers more likely to breastfeed and those who will need more differentiated interventions. Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Nursing Activities Score. Methods: To validate the Turkish version of the Nursing Activities Score, a sample comprising 30 adult intensive care patients and 30 nurses was employed. After a pilot study, the internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, was found to be p = 0.718. Following the significant internal consistency obtained in the pilot study, the correlation between Nursing Activities Score internal consistency and Critical Nursing Situation Index scores was examined in 150 adult intensive care patients and 150 nurses. Results: The assessment of inter-rater reliability showed a high level of agreement (99%) and an average Kappa index of 0.598 (p < 0.001). Concurrent validity was demonstrated through a statistically significant correlation between Nursing Activities Score and the Critical Nursing Situation Index (r = 0.71, p < 0.001) and multivariate regression analysis (R
2 = 83%, p < 0.001). The validity is supported by the statistically significant relationship between Nursing Activities Score and Critical Nursing Situation Index. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that Nursing Activities Score is a valid and reliable tool for measuring nursing workload in Turkish intensive care units. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Everyday Memory Questionnaire- Revised (EMQ-R-A) in a sample of Lebanese adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in August 2023. A diverse sample of 483 Lebanese adults aged 18 to 60 years from all Lebanese governorates was recruited. Participants completed an Arabic-language questionnaire comprising three sections: socio-demographic characteristics, health-related inquiries, the EMQ-R-A and the Arabic version of the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ). Results: The study's findings indicated that the EMQ-R-A displayed strong internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.925). Convergent validity was supported by a significant correlation with PRMQ. Test-retest results demonstrated strong reliability with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.925. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed a three-factor model including retrieval related factors, attentional tracking related factors, and other factors. The factors labeled "Retrieval" and "Attentional Tracking" elucidate aspects of memory retrieval system efficacy and attention-related challenges. Higher EMQ-R-A scores were found to be associated with the female gender, lower attention, physical inactivity, lower educational levels, and higher number of comorbid disorders. Conclusion: The EMQ-R-A exhibits good validity and reliability. The identified factors associated with memory decline underscore the importance of addressing lifestyle factors, such as promoting physical activity, better educational attainment, and addressing comorbid health conditions, to potentially mitigate memory challenges. • No identification algorithm for individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) in the Danish National Patient Registry (DNPR) exists and is needed to avoid misclassification. • Algorithms based on minimum number of hospital contacts with CF as the main diagnosis and time between first and last contact accurately capture individuals with CF in the DNPR. • Choosing an appropriate case-finding algorithm involves assessing trade-offs between sensitivity, positive predictive value, and cohort entry delay. • The DNPR captures individuals with CF with a high sensitivity and is a valid resource for CF-research. The Danish National Patient Registry (DNPR) serves as a valuable resource for scientific research. However, to ensure accurate results in cystic fibrosis (CF) studies that rely on DNPR data, a robust case-identification algorithm is essential. This study aimed to develop and validate algorithms for the reliable identification of CF patients in the DNPR. Using the Danish Cystic Fibrosis Registry (DCFR) as a reference, accuracy measures including sensitivity and positive predictive value (PPV) for case-finding algorithms deployed in the DNPR were calculated. Algorithms were based on minimum number of hospital contacts with CF as the main diagnosis and minimum number of days between first and last contact. An algorithm requiring a minimum of one hospital contact with CF as the main diagnosis yielded a sensitivity of 96.1 % (95 % CI: 94.2 %; 97.4 %) and a PPV of 84.9 % (82.0 %; 87.4 %). The highest-performing algorithm required minimum 2 hospital visits and a minimum of 182 days between the first and the last contact and yielded a sensitivity of 95.9 % (95 % CI: 94.1 %; 97.2 %), PPV of 91.0 % (95 % CI: 88.6 %; 93.0 %) and a cohort entry delay of 3.2 months at the 75th percentile (95th percentile: 38.7 months). The DNPR captures individuals with CF with high sensitivity and is a valuable resource for CF-research. PPV was improved at a minimal cost of sensitivity by increasing requirements of minimum number of hospital contacts and days between first and last contact. Cohort entry delay increased with number of required hospital contacts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
To analyze the relevance of a set of clinical elements to represent the content domain of the nursing diagnosis Ineffective Protection. This study employed content validation, using expert judgment to assess the appropriateness of clinical indicators, etiological factors, and conceptual and operational definitions, integrating the collective wisdom framework, the theory of predictive diversity, and the determination of rater skill level. From the middle range theory, 28 clinical indicators and 17 etiological factors were identified, which were rated by 34 raters. The analysis showed that the clinical indicators restlessness and insomnia and the etiological factors ambient temperature and humidity were not considered relevant for the nursing diagnosis of Ineffective Protection, because the median content validity index was lower than 0.9. Content validation verified that most of the components of the nursing diagnosis of Ineffective Protection were considered relevant by judges. It is believed that the data obtained can help nurses to more easily evaluate the related factors and clinical indicators of Ineffective Protection presented by adolescents with cancer, which favors the process of diagnostic inference. • Relevant clinical elements for ineffective protection in adolescents are presented. • Clinical indicators point to a more specific assessment in adolescents with cancer. • Etiological factors show the causal chain complexity of ineffective protection. Background: Heart failure demands self-care skills and behaviors that can be negatively impacted by a low level of perceived control (PC), a belief about having the necessary resources to deal with negative events. Having valid and reliable instruments to measure PC is important to support interventions that improve self-care and related outcomes. The Control Attitudes Scale-Revised (CAS-R)was developed in the United States to measure PC in cardiac conditions. In Brazil, there are no instruments available to measure this construct. Objective: The aims of this study were to translate and adapt the CAS-R to the Brazilian population and to assess the content validity of the adapted version. Methods: The CAS-R was translated, back-translated, and assessed by an expert committee for linguistic equivalences. An agreement > 80%was considered adequate. Content validity (clarity, theoretical relevance, and practical pertinence) wasassessedbyboth an expertprofessionalpanel (n=6-8) and a panel of patientswith heart failure (n = 40). A content validity coefficient > 0.70was considered acceptable. Results: The translations to Brazilian Portuguesewere considered consistentwith the original CAS-R. In the third round of linguistic equivalence assessment, all items achieved acceptable agreement, except for 2 items. After modifications to the instrument to achieve adequate equivalences, the adapted version had a final content validity coefficient of 0.93. Most patients were able to understand the instrument. Conclusions: The CAS-R-Brazilian version is equivalent to the original CAS-R and has satisfactory evidence of content validity. Additional psychometric testing will be performed to allow for the assessment of PC in individuals with heart failure in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background: The number of validated questionnaires that assess the level of breastfeeding competence of primary care professionals who attend lactating mothers is limited. Research Aim: To validate the CAPA (Competència en l'Atenció Primària sobre Alletament [Breastfeeding Competence in Primary Care]) questionnaire into Spanish in collaboration with professionals from the primary care services of the Comunidad de Madrid (Spain). Methods: In this multicentric study, four bilingual healthcare professionals translated the CAPA questionnaire into Spanish and back-translated it into Catalan. The cross-cultural adaptation included a discussion by an expert committee, a review by a philologist, and a pilot study that involved 13 healthcare residents. We randomly selected professionals from specialties involved in breastfeeding. The re-test was conducted 3 weeks later, aiming to avoid changes in the studied population. We performed a factor analysis to identify underlying constructs and hypothesis-testing to assess the validity of the questionnaire and estimated the Cronbach Alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) to assess its reliability. Results: A total of 198 professionals participated by responding to the questionnaire. Factorial analysis showed that the questionnaire was unidimensional. Hypothesis testing showed that, of all the considered professional groups, midwives achieved the highest mean score (M = 131.7, SD = 10.9, p < 0.001). Amongst the other professionals, only 26.5% achieved a basic level of breastfeeding competence. The Cronbach alpha and ICC were 0.852 (95% CI [0.821, 0.880]) and 0.890 (95% CI [0.800. 0.937]). Conclusions: The Spanish CAPA questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool for assessing breastfeeding basic competence among primary care professional groups who attend lactating mothers. PSYCHOMETRICS , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *CRONBACH'S alpha , *OLDER men , *OLDER women - Abstract
Introduction: As people age, they often look back on their history to determine their accomplishments and shortcomings, which might cause them to feel regret. The present study was designed to assess the reliability and validity of the Persian version of the regret scale in the Iranian elderly. Methods: The research method was a descriptive evaluation type. The study was conducted in Tehran in 2023. The sample consisted of 293 elderly men and women, who were selected by available and online sampling methods. The elderly completed the demographic checklist, regret, psychological distress, and psychological well-being questionnaires. The psychometric properties of the regret scale were analyzed through confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient in SPSS software and R software. Results: The content validity of the questionnaire items was found to be satisfactory in terms of quality. The results of the factor analysis indicated that the regret scale had a single-factor structure. The model had an RMSEA 1 of 0.07 and an SRMR of 0.04, which indicated the appropriateness of the model. The calculated values of other indices (GFI2, CFI3, NFI4, NNFI5, and IFI6 ) were 0.99, 0.96, 0.94, 0.86, and 0.96, respectively, indicating that the obtained model was acceptable. Additionally, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.81. Conclusion: The findings indicated that the regret scale had construct validity and acceptable reliability among the Iranian elderly. Besides, the single-factor structure of this scale could help to identify regret in the Iranian elderly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Nursing quality indicators (NQIs) are essential for evaluating and managing care, yet few validated NQIs exist for emergency nursing. The dynamic nature of this field demands specific, validated indicators. Purpose: The purpose of this review was to identify NQIs in adult emergency nursing using Donabedian's quality categories (structure, process, outcome) and explore their validation. Methods: A scoping review was conducted including articles from 2010 to February 2023, using the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature and Medline (Ovid) databases. Results: Among 936 screened articles, 18 were included, identifying 85 NQIs across structure (n = 14), process (n = 45), and outcome (n = 26) in emergency nursing. However, the validation of these NQIs was limited. Conclusions: NQIs evaluate emergency nursing quality, primarily in process assessment. Future work should validate the NQIs identified in this review for adult emergency nursing and search for potential new ones. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Aims To adapt the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) into Spanish and assess its concordance with the Spanish version of the FRAIL scale (FRAIL‐Es) in the context of intensive care. Design Validation study of frailty assessment scales in critically ill patients. Methods The study was conducted in two phases. The first phase consisted of translating, culturally adapting, and validating the CFS into Spanish. The second phase consisted of a metric descriptive study to assess the concurrent criterion validity of the adapted CFS with FRAIL‐Es in a cohort of intensive care patients. Both scales were assessed upon admission to intensive care and at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months post‐hospital discharge. Analysis was performed using T‐Student/Mann–Whitney, chi‐squared and Cohen's Kappa tests. Results Successful adaptation of the CFS with minimal changes was achieved, demonstrating its applicability in the evaluated context. The pilot study indicated that CFS‐Es is easy to assess, but some subjectivity in interpretation was noted. CFS‐Es and FRAIL‐Es were applied to 212 patients, revealing variations in frailty prevalence. The concordance and correlation between the CFS and FRAIL scales are robust. These differences suggest that the choice of scale may impact the identification of frail patients. These results emphasise the importance of considering specific characteristics of each scale when assessing frailty in critically ill patients, providing valuable information for clinical implementation and research in this field. Patient or Public Contribution Assessing frailty upon admission can be helpful in the care of frail patients, allowing the development of specific care plans based on pre‐existing frailty.

Objectives: This study aimed to translate and adapt the Malocclusion Impact Questionnaire (MIQ) into Finnish; to estimate its psychometric properties when applied to Finnish adolescents; and to estimate the effect of demographic characteristics on the perceived impact of malocclusion. Methods: The Finnish version of MIQ (MIQ-Fi) was established through translation, back-translation, and a pilot study. Psychometric properties were estimated using factorial validity (confirmatory factor analysis [CFA]), convergent validity (Average Variance Extracted [AVE]), and reliability (αordinal and ω). Structural Equation Model estimated the effect of demographic characteristics on malocclusion impact. Results: A total of 268 Finnish adolescents participated in the study (mean age = 13.4 [standard deviation, SD = 1.5] years, 48.5% girls). MIQ-Fi factor model presented an adequate fit to the data after refinements (CFA: comparative fit index [CFI] = 0.96, Tucker-Lewis index [TLI] = 0.95, standardized root mean square residual [SRMR] = 0.08, exclusion of 4 items and 1 correlation between items error). Convergent validity (AVE = 0.61) and reliability (αordinal and ω ≥ 0.90) were adequate. Gender and self-reported need for orthodontic treatment had moderate effects on malocclusion impact (βstandardized = 0.36 and 0.30, respectively, p

BackgroundAdjustment disorder (AD) is common among medically ill patients, yet current evaluation methods do not address the specific characteristics in this population. This study aimed to develop a measurement scale for AD in medically ill patients in Colombia and to find evidence of its validity and reliability.MethodsThis was a scale development and validation study. In the first qualitative phase, items were developed. In the second phase, the content validity of each item was evaluated by patients and clinicians. In the third phase, structural validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, criterion validity, and convergent construct validity were assessed. Items were analyzed using a generalized partial credit model within an item response theory framework.ResultsThe Adjustment Disorder Scale for Medically Ill Patients (ETAM, for its acronym in Spanish) was developed, comprising 20 items that address the free description of stressful situations in the last 15 days and mental symptoms attributed to them. Evidence of content validity was found. The scale was administered to 512 medically ill patients, revealing a three-dimensional structure: 1) “AD Symptoms”, 2) “Impact on Self-Care”, and 3) “Impact on Desire to Live”. Internal consistency was adequate, with McDonald’s omega of 0.95 and Cronbach’s alpha between 0.82 and 0.92 for its dimensions. ETAM had high test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.98). Criterion validity evidence was obtained with an independent psychiatrist’s diagnosis, with an AUROC of 0.99, and convergent validity was consistent with hypotheses of correlation with other instruments with similar constructs. Discrimination and difficulty parameters were calculated for each item.ConclusionThe ETAM is a scale with evidence of validity and reliability that can be used for the diagnosis of AD in medically ill patients in Colombia.
