Abstract

In this contribution, we study systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom as in robotics. A key idea is to consider the mass tensor associated to the kinetic energy as a metric in a Riemannian configuration space. We apply Pontryagin's framework to derive an optimal evolution of the control forces and torques applied to the mechanical system. This equation under covariant form uses explicitly the Riemann curvature tensor. This contribution is dedicated to the memory of Claude Vall{\'e}e (1945-2014).

Let X be a reflexive Banach space and Y its dual. In this paper we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a bipotential for a blurred maximal cyclically monotone graph. 8. Bipotentials for non monotone multivalued operators: fundamental results and applications

Abstract

This is a survey of recent results about bipotentials representing multivalued operators. The notion of bipotential is based on an extension of Fenchel's inequality, with several interesting applications related to non associated constitutive laws in non smooth mechanics, such as Coulomb frictional contact or non-associated Drucker-Prager model in plasticity. Relations betweeen bipotentials and Fitzpatrick functions are described. Selfdual lagrangians, introduced and studied by Ghoussoub, can be seen as bipotentials representing maximal monotone operators. We show that bipotentials can represent some monotone but not maximal operators, as well as non monotone operators. Further we describe results concerning the construction of a bipotential which represents a given non monotone operator, by using convex lagrangian covers or bipotential convex covers., Comment: to appear in Acta Applicandae Mathematicae

Abstract

We show a surprising connexion between a property of the inf convolution of a family of convex lower semicontinuous functions and the fact that the intersection of maximal cyclically monotone graphs is the critical set of a bipotential. We then extend the results from arXiv:math/0608424v4 to bipotentials convex covers, generalizing the notion of a bi-implicitly convex lagrangian cover. As an application we prove that the bipotential related to Coulomb's friction law is related to a specific bipotential convex cover with the property that any graph of the cover is non maximal cyclically monotone., Comment: accepted by the Journal of Convex Analysis

Abstract

If the constitutive law linking the second Piola-Kirchhoff stress tensor and the right Cauchy-Green strain tensor derives from a potential, then the Cauchy stress tensor and the logarithm of the left Cauchy-Green strain tensor are linked by a related potential. We give a new and concise proof which is based on an explicit formula expressing the derivative of the exponential of a tensor.

11. Affine Tensors in Mechanics of Freely Falling Particles and Rigid Bodies

Abstract

In a previous paper, we proposed an approach for the dynamics of 3D bodies and shells based on the use of affine tensors. This new theoretical frame is very large and the applications are not limited to the mechanics of continua. In the present paper, we show how it can be also applied to the description of the mechanics of freely falling particles and rigid bodies. The mass, the linear and angular momenta are structured as a single object called torsor. Excluding all metric notions, we define the torsors as skew-symmetric bilinear mappings operating on the linear space of the affine functions. Torsors are a particular family of affine tensors. On this ground, we define an intrinsic differential operator called the affine covariant derivative. Next, we claim that the torsor characterizing the behavior of a freely falling particle is affine covariant derivative free, that allows recovering both laws of linear and angular momentum. Finally, it is shown how the motion of rigid bodies can be describe within this frame., Comment: 18 pages

12. Construction of bipotentials and a minimax theorem of Fan

Abstract

In Mechanics, the theory of standard materials is a well-known application of Convex Analysis. However, the so-called non-associated constitutive laws cannot be cast in the mould of the standard materials. From the mathematical viewpoint, a non associated constitutive law is a multivalued operator which is not supposed to be monotone. A possible way to study non-associated constitutive laws by using Convex Analysis, proposed first in [12], consists in constructing a "bipotential" function of two variables, which physically represents the dissipation. This is a second paper on the mathematics of the bipotentials, following math.FA/0608424 . We prove here another reconstruction theorem for a bipotential from a convex lagrangian cover, this time using a convexity notion related to a minimax theorem of Fan.

This is a first paper in convex analysis dedicated to the bipotential theory, based on an extension of Fenchel's inequality. Introduced by the second author, bipotentials lead to a succesful new treatment of the constitutive laws of some dissipative materials: frictional contact, non-associated Drucker-Prager model, or Lemaitre plastic ductile damage law. Abstract

We extend to infinite dimensional separable Hilbert spaces the Schur convexity property of eigenvalues of a symmetric matrix with real entries. Our framework includes both the case of linear, selfadjoint, compact operators, and that of linear selfadjoint operators that can be approximated by operators of finite rank and having a countable family of eigenvalues. The abstract results of the present paper are illustrated by several examples from mechanics or quantum mechanics, including the Sturm-Liouville problem, the Schr\"{o}dinger equation, and the harmonic oscillator.

Abstract

During the preparatory phase of the International Linear Collider (ILC) project, all technical development and engineering design needed for the start of ILC construction must be completed, in parallel with intergovernmental discussion of governance and sharing of responsibilities and cost. The ILC Preparatory Laboratory (Pre-lab) is conceived to execute the technical and engineering work and to assist the intergovernmental discussion by providing relevant information upon request. It will be based on a worldwide partnership among laboratories with a headquarters hosted in Japan. This proposal, prepared by the ILC International Development Team and endorsed by the International Committee for Future Accelerators, describes an organisational framework and work plan for the Pre-lab. Abstract

International audience; The International Large Detector, ILD, is a detector concept which has been developed for the electron-positron collider ILC. The detector has been optimized for precision physics in a range of energies between 90 GeV and 1 TeV. ILD features a high precision, large volume combined silicon and gaseous tracking system, together with a high granularity calorimeter, all inside a 3.5 T solenoidal magnetic field. The paradigm of particle flow has been the guiding principle of the design of ILD. In this document the required performance of the detector, the proposed implementation and the readiness of the different technologies needed for the implementation are discussed. This is done in the framework of the ILC collider proposal, now under consideration in Japan, and includes site specific aspects needed to build and operate the detector at the proposed ILC site in Japan.

Abstract

International audience; The International Linear Collider (ILC) is a next-generation experimental facility to explore fundamental laws of the Universe. The importance of electron-positron linear colliders as a future experimental facility has been long recognized by the worldwide high energy physics community. A global design team, the Global Design Efforts (GDE), was set up under the International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) for design and coordination of R&D activities of the ILC in 2005, and the ILC Technical Design Report (TDR) was completed in 2013. ICFA then established the Linear Collider Collaboration (LCC) and the Linear Collider Board (LCB) and has continued to support the worldwide efforts for realizing the ILC. Meanwhile, in 2012, KEK and the high energy physics community in Japan proposed that Japan should host the ILC, which was welcomed by the worldwide high energy physics community. Implementation of the ILC project will require strong involvements from international partners due to its scientific importance and large scale. Aspects of international cost sharing and governance of the organization carrying out the ILC project will need to be discussed and agreed at the governmental level. Therefore, KEK established an International Working Group (WG) on the ILC Project in May 2019, inviting scientific experts worldwide* , and asking them to study international aspects of the project implementation from viewpoints of researchers. They were requested to create a report on model of international cost sharing for construction and operation, organization and governance of the ILC Laboratory, and international sharing of the remaining technical preparation. The WG report was submitted to KEK on September 25, 2019. After reviewing the content of the report, KEK decided to make it available within this document entitled “Recommendations on ILC Project Implementation”. This document summarizes the deliberations from researchers’ viewpoints; it does not intend to pre-empt governments and funding agencies. It is hoped that it will be helpful for discussions among governments and funding agencies.
