Objective: The objective of this study was to adapt and validate the Vietnamese version of Active Aging Index (AAI). Method: We conducted an expert panel, focus groups, test–retest and examination of internal consistency, and construct and concurrent validity among 804 older Vietnamese adults. Results: Scale content validity index (CVI) was 0.98. Test–retest coefficients ranged from 0.70 to 1.00. The Cronbach's alphas of well-being, voluntary, affordability, and politics were 0.94, 0.70, 0.65, and 0.16, respectively. Voluntary and well-being had good construct validity. Regarding politics, only one of four items had good test–retest reliability (Kappa 0.84), while other three had low variance in both test–retest and field study. In exploratory factor analysis, items assessing affordability loaded on three components. AAI was positively associated with perceived health, life satisfaction, and quality of life; it was negatively associated with falls, loneliness, and frailty. Discussion: In adapting AAI, researchers should consider cultural sensitivity. Key modifications, findings, explanations, and suggestions are presented here. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study was to develop the e-healthy diet literacy (e-HDL) questionnaire based on the comprehensive health literacy (HL) conceptual framework, to examine the association among HL, e-HDL, health behaviors and outcomes. A nationwide study was conducted on 1342 adults aged 18 years and above, between April and September 2017. Multi-stage random sampling was used to recruit the participants from four regions and 19 cities and counties in Taiwan. HL and e-HDL were measured by HLS-SF12 and the e-healthy diet literacy questionnaire (e-HDLQ), respectively. Socio-demographics, behaviors (e.g. smoking, drinking and exercising) and health outcomes were also measured. Principal component analysis (PCA), linear regression models and logistic regression models were used. The mean age was 33.9 ± 11.4 years. The e-HDLQ was constructed with 11 items. A positive association between HL and e-HDL was found. In the multivariate analysis, HL and e-HDL were significantly lower in men and higher in those who used Facebook for searching information. HL was positively associated with the ability to pay for medication, and social status. The e-HDL was lower in older participants, and people who searched for healthy cooking, healthy food places or weight control, as compared with ones searched for nutritional therapies, while positively associated with education. Both HL and e-HDL were positively associated with health status and physical activities. In conclusion, the valid e-HDL survey tool was developed for general public use. Background: This study aimed to evaluate health literacy levels of patients in Almaty City, Kazakhstan and to identify socio-demographics and socio-economic factors related to their health literacy., Methods: An international survey instrument HLS-EU-Q developed by the European Health Literacy Consortium was used in a cross-sectional study with 1000 citizens in the Almaty City at the age of 18 and over who visited the out-patient departments in the polyclinics between Feb and Oct 2014., Results: There were 552 women and 446 men completed the survey, with mean ages as (41.8 ± 13.9) and (44.7 ± 15.2) yr old respectively, and women were significantly younger than men ( P <0.001). Their general health literacy was (34.0 ± 8.6) for men and (33.49 ± 9.4) for women, without significant difference. In them, 15.5% or 30.0% were with inadequate or problematic health literacy. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that higher general health literacy was positively and significantly associated with high self-assessed social status (B=3.86, P <0.001), ability to pay for medications (B=3.42, P <0.001), low frequency of watching health related TV programs (B=2.37, P <0.001), moderate community involvement (B=2.23, P =0.03)., Conclusion: Specific demographic and socio-economic determinants related to health literacy were identified the first time in Kazakhstan.
