5. Anthropometric characteristics of male rink hockey goalkeeper's according to their competitive level

Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the anthropometric characteristics of male rink hockey goalkeepers, and to compare the variation according to their competitive level (international vs. non-international). Methods: Body mass, stature, sitting height, arm span, waist and hip circumferences and four skinfold measurements (triceps, medial calf, subscapular and supraspinale) of international (n = 12) and non-international (n = 23) goalkeepers were taken. Body mass index (BMI, weight/height 2), the sum of four skinfolds, the sitting height/stature ratio, waist/hip ratio and the relative arm span were also calculated. Results: International rink hockey goalkeepers have lower values of subcutaneous adiposity for the sum of the four skinfolds (P = 0.042; d = 0.76) particularly in the triceps (P = 0.016; d = 0.87) and are taller than non-international goalkeepers (+3.8 cm [2.2%]; 180.5 ± 7.0 vs. 176.6 ± 4.8 cm; t = 1.920; P = 0.064; d = 0.65). Conclusion: The findings could indicate that stature and body fat may have important implications for scouts regarding the selection process and coaches that work with players on developing performance. Future research should investigate the extent to which different anthropometric measures influence performance in rink hockey goalkeepers.

Abstract

Analytical expressions of temperature dependencies of magnitude–frequency and phase–frequency characteristics of a HTSC RLC parallel circuit are obtained, where the resistance and inductance are non-linearly depended on the optical signal modulated by the intensity. It is shown that the magnitude–frequency and phase–frequency characteristics of circuits can be controlled by choosing the parameters of the HTSC thin film and optical “pump”.

Abstract

Noise characteristics of silicon carbide Schottky barrier field effect transistors (MESFET) are examined for the case of the operation in small-signal regime and the presence of deep impurity levels and electron traps in the band gap of the channel. A new model of calculations of noise is suggested. It is shown that the noise measure of the short channel MESFET can be decreased within certain high frequency range.

Abstract

The theoretical analysis of microwave characteristics of the n + p + ν n + TUNNETT diodes made of silicon carbide is carried out. The expressions for the impedance and its active and reactive components as well as expressions for the frequency range, where the negative differential resistance takes place, and the maximal frequency of oscillations are obtained for the TUNNETT diodes made of SiC. After numerical calculations, the conclusion is made that the performance potential of TUNNETTs is better than that of the other transit time devices in very high frequency range. The use of silicon carbide for the manufacture of TUNNETTs can promise better microwave parameters over the range of frequencies 100–500 GHz.

Abstract

Aim. The purpose of the current study was to assess the developmental changes in change of direction and dribbling speed in youth soccer players taking into account skeletal age (SA), maturity status, body size, estimated fat mass, aerobic endurance, lower limb explosive strength and annual volume of training. Methods. Eighty-three male soccer players aged 10-15 years (SA) at baseline were annually followed over 5 years, resulting in an average 4.4 observations per player. After testing for multicollinearity, multi-level regression modeling was used to examine the longitudinal developmental changes on change of direction and dribbling speed. Results. Maturity-associated variability was significant in change of direction and also dribbling speed among young soccer players aged 12-14 years with better scores being performed by late maturers. Moreover, the predicted Ion gitudinal scores for change of direction and dribbling speed improved with SA (P Conclusion. Skeletal maturity status explains inter-individual variability on maximal short-term run performances with and without the ball possession at early ages of participation in competitive soccer. The effects tend to persist across ages combined with longitudinal changes in body composition and functional fitness. In the particular case of the ball test, annual volume of training was also a longitudinal performance predictor.

Abstract

The photoelectrical and spectral characteristics of silicon carbide photodiodes with the non-uniform distribution of doping impurities in the base are theoretically examined. The expressions are obtained for the average drift field, depletion-layer width and the normalized photocurrent. The short-wavelength photosensitivity of such drift photodiodes are calculated. It is shown that using internal drift field arises due to gradient of concentration of deep acceptor levels in the p-region it is possible to increase the short-wavelength sensitivity of SiC photodiodes.

Abstract

Metal-semiconductor tunneling contact characteristics on the base of Silicon Carbide with trap levels in the semiconductor bandgap are theoretically examined. It is shown that the magnitude of avalanche voltage can be increased under the influence of trapping charge carriers tunneling from the metal to the semiconductor. It is shown that with the increased of temperature the breakdown avalanche voltage of the contacts is decreased.

Abstract

Avaliou-se a resistência de diferentes populações de arroz-vermelho e selvagem a Rhizoctonia solani e R. oryzae, que causam a queima e mancha-das-bainhas, respectivamente. Plantas infectadas foram coletadas, e os fungos foram isolados em meio BDA. Em condições controladas, um experimento foi instalado no delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com 41 tratamentos (diferentes populações de arroz selvagem e vermelho) e três repetições. As plantas foram inoculadas com palitos infectados com os fungos na fase de emborrachamento e avaliadas de acordo com o comprimento de cada lesão. Nenhuma planta foi imune às doenças. Abstract

A simple, rapid, and precise amperometric method for quantification of N-methylcarbamate pesticides in water samples and phytopharmaceuticals is presented. Carbofuran and fenobucarb are the target analytes. The method is developed in flow conditions providing the anodic oxidation of phenolic-based compounds formed after alkaline hydrolysis. Optimization of instrumental and chemical variables is presented. Under the optimal conditions, the amperometric signal is linear for carbofuran and fenobucarb concentrations over the range of 1.0 × 10-7 to 1.0 × 10-5 mol L-1, with a detection limit of about 2 ng mL-1. The amperometric method is successfully applied to the analysis of spiked environmental waters and commercial formulations. The proposed method allows 90 samples to be analysed per hour, using 500 µL of sample, and producing wastewaters of low toxicity. The proposed method permits determinations at the µg L-1 level and offers advantages of simplicity, accuracy, precision, and applicability to coloured and turbid samples, and automation feasibility. Metal-semiconductor tunneling contact characteristics on the base of Silicon Carbide with trap levels in the semiconductor bandgap are theoretically examined. It is shown that the magnitude of avalanche voltage can be increased under the influence of trapping charge carriers tunneling from the metal to the semiconductor. It is shown that with the increased of temperature the breakdown avalanche voltage of the contacts is decreased.

Abstract

An automatic procedure based on a flow injection analysis manifold has been developed for the determination of caffeine in soft drinks using an amperometric detection (+1.70 V vs AgCl/Ag). The sample and standards were injected without pre-treatment, with a sampling rate of 120 determinations per hour. The determination of caffeine in several soft drinks available in Portugal using the developed automatic system provided results with mean recovery values between 98% and 103% and a mean standard deviation between 2% and 5%. The results obtained were compared with those given by the reference method recommended by AOAC. Relative deviation was always less than 4%. Reproducibility of the method was assessed by the relative standard deviation (RSD%), values of which were less than 2%.

Abstract

Research aimed at investigating the ideal plant arrangement system of common beans under intercropping with castor hybrids is necessary, as intercropping is a common practice in Brazil, and this practice affects the morphophysiological behavior of both crops. The objective of this study was to evaluate the consociation systems of common bean plants with small-sized castor hybrid, in three agricultural years, in the edaphoclimatic conditions of the Cerrado of Goiás, Brazil. In the three experiments, the randomized block design with four repetitions was used, involving the combination of five simultaneous sowing systems: beans sown on the castor row, on the inter-row, on the row + inter-row and beans and castor in monocropping. The bean cultivar used was Pérola; for castor the Agima hybrid was used. The plant height, primary yield components and the yield of the beans were evaluated, while for castor was evaluated the plant height, stem diameter, number of racemes per plant, plus the yield, in addition to the area equivalence index (AEI) to verify the efficiency of the intercropping. The arrangement of bean plants cv. Pérola on row and row + inter-row of the Agima 110204 castor hybrid provides higher yields of the legume. The yield of castor hybrids is not influenced by the common bean crop. The growing of common bean and the castor hybrid in the intercropping system is more efficient than the monocropping of both crops.

Abstract

Background: Programmed death receptor ligand 1 (PD-L1) tumor proportion score (TPS) and tumor mutational burden (TMB) are key predictive biomarkers for immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) efficacy in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Data on their variation across multiple samples are limited., Patients and Methods: Patients with NSCLC and multiple PD-L1 TPS and/or TMB assessments were included. Clinicopathologic and genomic data were analyzed according to PD-L1 and TMB variation., Results: In total, 402 PD-L1 sample pairs and 413 TMB sample pairs were included. Concordance between pairs was moderate for PD-L1 (ρ = 0.53, P < 0.0001) and high for TMB (ρ = 0.80, P < 0.0001). Shorter time between biopsies correlated with higher concordance in PD-L1, but not in TMB. Major increases (ΔTPS ≥ +50%) and decreases (ΔTPS ≤ -50%) in PD-L1 were observed in 9.7% and 8.0% of cases, respectively. PD-L1, but not TMB, decreased with intervening ICI (P = 0.02). Acquired copy number loss of CD274, PDCD1LG2, and JAK2 were associated with major decrease in PD-L1 (q < 0.05). Among patients with multiple PD-L1 assessments before ICI, cases where all samples had a PD-L1 ≥1%, compared to cases with at least one sample with PD-L1 <1% and another with PD-L1 ≥1%, achieved improved objective response rate and progression-free survival (PFS). Among patients with at least one PD-L1 <1% and one ≥1% before ICI, cases where the most proximal sample was PD-L1 ≥1% had longer median PFS compared to cases where the most proximal PD-L1 was <1%. Among patients with multiple TMB assessments before ICI, patients with a TMB ≥10 mut/Mb based on the most recent assessment, as compared to those with a TMB <10 mut/Mb, achieved improved PFS and overall survival to ICI; instead, no differences were observed when patients were categorized using the oldest TMB assessment., Conclusions: Despite intrapatient concordance in PD-L1 and TMB, variation in these biomarkers can influence ICI outcomes, warranting consideration for reassessment before ICI initiation when feasible., (Copyright © 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual, and other diverse individuals (LGBTQIA+) people face lower healthcare utilization rates due to discrimination, poor experiences in healthcare, and barriers to accessing care. There is an increasing need to improve care and reduce health care disparities for the LGBTQIA+ population. The medical community can begin by educating themselves on LGBTQIA+ terminology, using inclusive language and developing cultural competence in clinical settings. In order to achieve this, it is first important to understand that sex and gender are distinct and that both sex and gender exist on continuums. This article will build on this understanding by introducing basic and widely accepted terminology that will provide a foundation for providing care to LGBTQIA+ populations. By thoughtfully incorporating this knowledge into our research and clinical practice, the radiology community will enhance the healthcare experiences of all patients., (© 2024. Abstract

This review explores the clinical presentation of lower extremity DVT and pulmonary embolism (PE), treatment strategies, and outcomes for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the pediatric population. Traditional therapy for pediatric VTE was anticoagulation alone with thrombolysis and surgery reserved only in life or limb-threatening cases. Catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT), pharmacomechanical thrombectomy (PMT) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT) have emerged as effective and safe treatment options for VTE management. Although most data are from adult studies, early pediatric studies suggest that these interventional procedures can be effective in children. The significant clinical impact of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is also discussed, as PTS can lead to lifelong physical symptoms and psychosocial damage., (Copyright © 2024.
