Background: The face is a complicated structure configurations of which are originated and components integrated during the developmental stages. Almost the whole of face is formed by neural crest cells migrating from the edge of the cranial neural folds to the pharyngeal arcus. Brain is an asymmetric organ both functionally and anatomically. While the left hemisphere is dominant in processing the verbal, mathematical and logical information, the right hemisphere is dominant in processing the perceptual, visible, spatial and artistic information. The functional differences in the left and right brain hemispheres might also cause differences in facial regions developing from the same centres as telencephalon during embryonic period. Therefore; we aimed to perform linear anthropometric measurements and determine whether functional asymmetry of brain creates any change in facial linear measurements, on the faces of students of painting and mathematics departments whose skills are different from each other. Materials and methods: This study was performed on 212 students. A total numer of 22 measurements from 17 anthropometric points for each student were done. Measurements were carried out between November 2011 and February 2012. Results: Our findings revealed that there were statistically significant differences between two student groups in the face width, intercanthal distance, mandibular width, nose width, upper lip height and philtrum length. The comparison of genders revealed that there were statistically significant differences between all measured parameters. In addition, all students from both departments had euryprosopic face type when face type points were compared. Conclusions: Those differences might be related to the functional asymmetry of brain. Therefore it could be suggested that the functional asymmetry of brain could cause an asymmetry in the face as well as in the linear anthropometric measurements.

Tıpeğitiminin yeterliliğinin ve etkinliğinin değerlendirilmesinde somut veriler vekanıta dayalı bilgiler önemlidir. Özellikle öğrencilerin görüş ve önerilerininalınması tıp eğitiminin yönlendirilmesinde yol gösterici olmaktadır. Busebeple, çalışmamızda on iki sorudan oluşan anket formu uygulanarak, C.Ü. tıpfakültesi ikinci sınıf öğrencilerinin anatomi uygulama dersleri hakkındakidüşünceleri ve önerilerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmayaanket sorularını cevaplamayı kabul eden 104’ü kadın, 35’i erkek 139 gönüllüöğrenci dahil edildi. Öğrencilerin %55,4’si anatomi uygulamaları için ayrılansürenin yeterli olduğunu düşünürken, %61,15’i ders esnasında yoklama alınmasa da,uygulama derslerine katılacağını belirtmiştir. Öğrencilerin hemen hemen tamamı (%98,6) laboratuvar uygulamaları esnasında öğretimelemanları tarafından maket yada kadavra anlatımı yapılmasını istemektedir. Öğrencilerin %82,73’ü komitebitiminde yapılan anatomi pratik sınavlarını gerekli bulmakta ve %75,53’ümasalar üzerine kadavra, maket ve kemik konularak yapılan zilli sınavın ölçmeve değerlendirme de daha uygun olduğunu düşünmektedir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin %91,36’sı anatomipratiğinden önce, çalışma notlarının verilmesi gerektiğini ifade etmişlerdir.Öğrencilerden alınan geribildirimlergöstermektedir ki, insan anatomisinin anlaşılmasında uygulama dersleri hayatiöneme sahip olup, mevcut uygulamalar öğrencilerin büyük çoğunluğu tarafındankabul görmektedir. Bununla birlikte talep edilen uygulamalarda eğitimcilertarafından değerlendirilip, stajkonularının anlaşılmasını kolaylaştırmakta ve başarıyı arttırmaktadır. Eğitimprogramları hazırlanırken, ihtiyaç duyulan diğer stajlar içinde klinik anatomidersinin müfredata dahil edilmesi tıp eğitiminin kalitesinin arttırılmasındafaydalı olabilir., In assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of medical education, concrete data, and evidence-based information are essential. Especially taking the opinions and suggestions of the students is guiding the direction of medical education. Therefore, in our study, a questionnaire consisting of twelve questions was applied. The aim of this the present study is to determine the thoughts and suggestions of the second year medical faculty students about anatomy practice courses.The study included 139 volunteers 2nd-grade medical faculty student (104 female and 35 male students) who agreed to answer the questionnaire. While 55.4% of the students thought that the time allocated for anatomy applications was sufficient, 61.15% stated that they would participate in the practical courses even though the lecture attendance would not be taken during the course. Almost all of the students (98.6%) want their instructors to make models or cadaveric demonstrations during the laboratory practices. 82.73% of the students think that the anatomy practice exams are required at the end of the committee and 75,53% of them think that the measurement and evaluation of the examination by using cadaver, model, and bone on the tables is more appropriate. Besides, 91.36% of the students stated that the study notes should be given before the practice of anatomy.The feedback from the students shows that the practical lessons in understanding human anatomy are of vital importance and the majority of students accepts the current practices. However, evaluation of the requested applications would facilitate understanding of subjects and increases success. In the preparation of training programs, the inclusion of clinical anatomy into the curriculum may be useful in improving the quality of medical education.

WOS: 000444193000022, PubMed ID: 29399752, Background: The anterior clinoid process (ACP) is usually removed during surgical procedures of the cellar region. The ACP may be different length and width in people; it may be also pneumatic. Therefore, we aimed to determine dimensions and rates of pneumatisation of the ACP in the large study group with clinically importance. Materials and methods: One thousand and thirty-one (592 female, 439 male) cranial computed tomography (CT) of the middle Anatolian population was used in this study. The length and basal width of the ACP were measured on the cranial CT. Also; incidence and degree of ACP pneumatisation were identified. Results: The width of the right and left ACPs in females were 10.80 +/- 2.27 mm and 10.53 +/- 2.07 mm, respectively. The width of the right and left ACPs in males were 11.08 +/- 2.39 mm and 10.98 +/- 2.35 mm, respectively. The length of the right and left ACPs in females were 8.32 +/- 2.40 mm and 8.34 +/- 2.35 mm, respectively. The length of the right and left ACPs in males were 8.87 +/- 2.62 mm and 8.93 +/- 2.64 mm, respectively. There was statistically significant difference between males and females in ACP dimensions, except for the width of the right ACP. Pneumatisation of the ACP was observed on the right side in 46 (9.3%) cases, on the left side in 53 (10.6%) cases, and bilaterally in 32 (6.5%) cases. Incidence of pneumatisation of the ACP was decreased in the age group of 1 month to 20 years. While the incidence of bilateral pneumatisation of the ACP was higher in individuals aged 21-40. Conclusions: Radiologically recognising pneumatisation and anatomical variations of the ACP may be helpful in decreasing the incidence of surgical complications during anterior clinoidectomy.

Objective: The data gathered objectively, and theinformation which is evidence-based is essential in evaluating both thesufficiency and the efficiency of medical education. Especially the feedback ofstudents insights and suggestions is a good guidance for management of medicaltraining. In this context, in the present study, it has been aimed to determinethe thoughts and recommendations of 5th-grade Medical Faculty Students aboutClinical Anatomy Course (CAC) by using a questionnaire which is consistof 12 questions. Method: A hundred and forty-four student (81 femaleand 63 male) volunteered to participate the study and took thequestionary. Results: While86.8 % of the students mentioned that it would be more necessary to takeClinical Anatomy Course during Orthopedics Course, 87.5 % of the student showedtheir preference for Neurosurgery Course. 75.7 % of the students suggested thatit would also be beneficial to add CAC into the Eye Diseases andOtorhinolaryngology Practise in addition to those practices mentioned above. While the allotted time for CAC in theClinical Practice was found sufficient to only 39.6 % of the student, 31.9 %asked for an increase in duration of CAC. According to 71.5 % of the students,the information should be solidified after the theoretical lectures bypractices in which bones, manikins, and cadavers are used effectively. Givingattendance is not favored by 50 % of the students, and almost same amount ofthe participants (51.4 %) thinks the exam at the end of the class or the courseis unnecessary. Conclusions: It hasbeen understood from the positive feedback of the students that CAC which iscurrently taken during Orthopedics and Neurosurgery Courses facilitates theunderstanding Clinical Practise topics and it increases the overall success of the students in Clinic.While preparing the medical training curriculum, adding the CAC into theclinical training curriculums when needed may help to increase the overallquality of the medical education.&nbsp, Amaç: Tıp eğitimininyeterliliğinin ve etkinliğinin değerlendirilmesinde somut veriler ve kanıtadayalı bilgiler önemlidir. Yöntem: Çalışmaya anketsorularını cevaplamayı kabul eden 81’i kadın, 63’ü erkek 144 gönüllü öğrencidahil edildi.Bulgular: Öğrencilerin% 86.8’i ortopedi, % 87.5’i beyin cerrahi stajları içerisinde verilmekte olanklinik anatomi dersinin gerekli olduğunu düşünürken, %75.7’si bu stajlara ekolarak özellikle göz ve KBB stajları içerisinde de klinik anatomi dersininfaydalı olacağını belirtmiştir.Stajlar içerisinde klinik anatomi dersi için ayrılan süreyiöğrencilerin % 39.6’sı yeterli bulurken, %31.9’u ders saatlerininarttırılmasını istemiştir. Öğrencilerin% 71.5’ine göre teorik derslerden sonra kemik, maket, kadavra üzerinde yapılanuygulama dersleriyle konular pekiştirilmedir. Öğrencilerin % 50’si derslerdeyoklama alınmasını istemez iken, %51.4’ü ders bitiminde ya da staj sonundasınav yapılmasına gerek olmadığını ifade etmiştir.Sonuç: Öğrencilerdenalınan pozitif geribildirimler göstermektedir ki halen ortopedi ve beyincerrahi stajları içerisinde verilen klinik anatomi dersi, staj konularınınanlaşılmasını kolaylaştırmakta ve başarıyı arttırmaktadır. WOS: 000321868400005, The aim of this study is the classification of the thickness of diploe, lamina externa, lamina interna and total calvarial thickness at different points of cranium in elderly men and women. In the radiology archive, measurements were made at different points in cranial MR images of 220 (110 females, 110 males) patients, the average ages of whom were 73.23 +/- 8.40 (age range: 61-90) and who had no disorder of the bones. Diploe thickness, lamina externa, lamina interna and total calvarial thickness were measured in eight points of the calvaria. Midfrontal point, back and front bregma, lambda, opisthocranion and euryon points were used in the measurement. The data was loaded to SPSS 16.0 program. T-test, Mann-Whitney U, Pearson correlation coefficient and Kruskal Wallis variance analysis were used in the statistical assessment. Results with a p value smaller than 0.05 were accepted as significant. There was statistically significant difference in total cranial thickness between males and females in the right euryon point only. Average total calvarial thickness at right euryon point was higher in females (6.20 +/- 0.78 mm) than in males (5.96 +/- 0.68 mm) (p=0.02). WOS: 000396710000008, Background: Tonsillar herniation is a condition that manifests as herniation of the brain parts, originating from the hindbrain and progressing through the foramen magnum into the cervical vertebral canal. Although the etiology of tonsillar herniation is unclear, it has been suggested that it may be congenital or acquired. In particular, there is speculation that primary mesodermal insufficiency may affect the size of the posterior cranial fossa. Objectives: Our main objective is to perform measurements of the cranium, cerebrum, and cerebellum in order to clarify the etiology of tonsillar herniation. Patients and Methods: Magnetic resonance images were taken for 1,052 patients (629 females and 423 males) with no disease affecting the bones. Chiari malformation type I (CMI) was detected in 63 of the patients. The remaining 989 patients were considered to be the control group. The patients' mean age was 36.58 +/- 22.34 (1-94 years). Measurements were performed using midsagittal and axial T1 and T2 images. Nine parameters were used to evaluate cranium morphometry, while a further nine were used to evaluate cerebrum and cerebellum morphometry. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS version 14 statistics software, in addition to the t-test and the Mann-Whitney U test. The significance level was set at 0.05. Results: In individuals with tonsillar herniation, while the front-back diameter of the foramen magnum, the cerebellum height, and the sagittal diameter of the cerebellum increased, the maximum cranial height, supraocciput length, clivus length, and height of the posterior cranial fossa decreased. Also, in the case of all age groups, there was no statistically significant difference between the healthy controls and the people with tonsillar herniation in terms of tentorial slope angle. The mean herniation value was 4.85 +/- 3.09mmin those with tonsillar herniation. Conclusion: Our results concerning cranium morphometry support the theory that hypoplastic posterior cranial fossa due to mesodermal insufficiency may play a role in the etiology of tonsillar herniation.

Amaç: Kaliteli sağlık hizmeti verilebilmesinde en önemli unsur, başta doktorlar olmak üzere sağlık personelinin iyi yetişmiş olmasıdır. Mesleğinde başarılı, iyi bir sağlık elemanı olmanın yoluda insan anatomisini doğru ve kalıcı bir şekilde öğrenmekten geçer. İnsan anatomisini öğrenmede teorik derslerin yanı sıra pratik uygulamalarda çok önemlidir. Klasik anatomi eğitiminde kadavra kullanımı vazgeçilmez olarak kabul edilmektedir. Ancak yeni tıp fakültelerinin açılmasıyla kadavra sıkıntısı artmış ve anatomi pratikleri ağırlıklı olarak maketler üzerinde yapılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu sebeple pratik uygulamalar içerisinde yer alan anatomik modellerle çalışma ve kadavra disseksiyonlarının anatomiyi öğrenmeye olan etkisini araştırmayı amaçladık. Yöntem: 2015-2016 eğitim- öğretim dönemi içerisinde, başarı düzeyleri birbirine yakın olan ve anatomi teorik derslerini takip eden 120 tıp fakültesi ikinci sınıf öğrencisi çalışmaya dahil edildi. Öğrenciler 30'ar kişilik dört grup (1. grup sadece teorik ders dinleyenler, 2.grup teorik ders ve anatomik modellerle uygulama yapanlar 3.grup teorik ders ve kadavra diseksiyonuyla uygulama yapanlar 4.grup teorik ders, anatomik modeller ve kadavra diseksiyonuyla uygulama yapanlar)'a ayrıldı. Her bir ders kurulunda verilen teorik dersler ve pratik uygulamalardan sonra, 10 sorudan oluşan, pratik sınavlarla öğrencilerin konuyu anlama dereceleri tespit edildi. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 22.0 programına yüklendi ve istatistiksel değerlendirmede Oneway Anova, Mann-Whitney U, Khi-kare testi kullanıldı. Bulgular: Dolaşım sistemi ders kurulunda, teorik dersten sonra, hem maket hemde kadavra üzerinde pratik uygulama yapan öğrencilerin not ortalaması diğerlerinden belirgin şekilde daha yüksekti. Aradaki bu fark istatistiksel olarakta anlamlıydı (p0.05). Sonuç: Çalışmamızdan elde edilen sonuçlar, kadavra diseksiyonu yapılarak verilen anatomi pratik eğitimlerinin anlamayı kolaylaştırdığı ve başarıyı arttırdığını göstermektedir. Çalışmadan elde edilen bu sonuç, anatomi pratiğinde mevcut uygulamaların etkinliği konusunda bilgi verdiği gibi, ders saatlerinin planlanmasında, müfredata yeni konular eklenmesi ya da çıkarılması noktasındada eğitimcilere yol gösterici olacaktır., Objective: The most important element in providing good quality of healthcare is well training of healthcare staff, particularly doctors. The way of being a good and successful healthcare staff is to learn the human anatomy accurately and permanently. Practical applications as well as theoretical courses are also highly important in learning human anatomy. In classical anatomy education, using cadaver is accepted to be indispensable. However, along with the new medical faculties, there has been an increase in the shortage of cadaver, and anatomy practices have mainly begun to be carried out on models or mock-ups. Therefore, we aimed to study with anatomic models in practical applications and to research the effect of cadaver dissection on learning anatomy. Conclusions: The results obtained from our study indicate that anatomy practical training is carried out with the dissection of cadavers that made it easier to understand of the anatomy and increasing success rate. The results obtained from the study give information about the effectiveness of existing applications in anatomy practice and be a guide for educators in planning class hours and including or excluding new topics and subjects from curriculum. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques provide suitable data for this purpose. Objectives: In our study, the morphometric data of mid-sagittal MRI of the frontal lobe in certain age and gender groups of children have been presented. Patients and Methods: In a normal age group of 6-17-year-old participants, the length of the line passing through predetermined different points, including the frontal pole (FP), commissura anterior (AC), commissura posterior (PC), the outermost point of corpus callosum genu (AGCC), the innermost point of corpus callosum genu (IGCC), tuberculum sella (TS), AGCC and IGCC points parallel to AC-PC line and the point such line crosses at the frontal lobe surface (FCS) were measured in three age groups (6-9, 10-13 and 14-17 years) for each gender. Results: The frontal lobe morphometric data were higher in males than females. Frontal lobe measurements peak at the age group of 10-13 in the male and at the age group of 6-13 in the female. In boys, the length of FP-AC increases 4.1% in the 10-13 age group compared with the 6-9-year-old group, while this increase is 2.3% in girls. Conclusion: Differences in age and gender groups were determined. While the length of AGCC-IGCC increases 10.4% in adults, in children aged 6-17, the length of AC-PC is 11.5% greater than adults. These data will contribute to the preliminary assessment for developing a surgical plan in fine interventions in the frontal lobe and its surroundings in children.

It can be evaluated very clearly in routine brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) due to its central location. Objectives: Quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the clivus and its changes according to age in a group of healthy people. Patients and Methods: The transition of clival bone marrow to fatty marrow by the increase in age is examined by MRI in 105 men and 105 women who had no clival and bone marrow pathology on MRI. The clivus/pons, clivus/CSF intensity values and clival bone marrow imaging patterns according to age groups were prospectively evaluated using a 1.5 Tesla MR device. Results: When age groups were individually compared, there were meaningful statistical differences both in men and women in terms of clivus/CSF and clivus/pons intensity ratios (both Ps < 0.05). Clivus/pons and clivus/CSF intensity ratios were found to be increased with age in all cases. The distribution of age groups according to stages in all individuals was statistically meaningful (P < 0.05). When the appearance patterns of both genders in every ten-fold age were examined, stage III bone marrow was observed more in elder ages. Conclusions: As a result, besides the fact that standard ranges determined for clivus/CSF, clivus/pons intensity ratios according to age may be used in the assessment of potential pathological cases involving bone marrow; they can also be leading in the diagnosis of bone marrow diseases when taken into consideration together with clinical and laboratory data. SUMMARYObjective: Migraine is one of the most encountered causes of headaches. Usually, it shows up among young adults and may cause a decline in life standards and workforce loss. The exact cause of the disease is not known, and environmental factors and genetic predisposition are etiologically blamed. Dermatoglyphics are special shapes created by epidermis ridges. They occur during the intrauterine period and remain invariably for lifetime. However, several disorders that develop depending on genetic predisposition may cause deteriorations in the shape and ridge of the dermatoglyphics. Thus, dermatoglyphic samples of the fingertip and palm of patients diagnosed with migraine were compared with control group and presented in accompanying with literature.Method: The dermatoglyphic data obtained from 51 patients and 70 healthy people (control group), with digital scanner were transferred to computer environment. By using ImageJ program, atd, dat, adt angles, a-b ridge count, sample types of all fingers and ridge counts were calculated. Obtained data were loaded into SPSS 15.0 program. T-test, Mann-Whitney U and chi-square were used in statistical assessment.Results: Both right and left hand fingerprint ridge counts, a-b ridge counts and total ridge counts of the patients with migraine increased. This increase was also significant except for right hand little finger. Furthermore, atd angle in both hands of patients with migraine was statistically and significantly higher than healthy control group. However, the most frequent sample type in both groups except for men’s right hand was ulnar loop.Conclusions: The deviation from normality in the distribution of dermatoglyphic samples support the genetic predisposition blamed in migraine etiology. Also, by studying the dermatoglyphic samples, it is likely to detect the individuals with genetic predisposition in society. Yöntem: Elli bir hasta ve 71 sağlıklı kontrol grubundan dijital tarayıcı yöntemiyle alınan dermatoglifik örnekler bilgisayar ortamına aktarıldı.ImageJ programı kullanılarak; atd, dat, adt açıları, a-b çizgi sayısı, tüm parmakların örnek tipleri ve çizgi sayıları hesaplandı.Elde edilen veriler SPSS 15 programına yüklendi. İstatistiksel değerlendirmede T testi, Mann Whitney U ve ki-kare testi kullanıldı. Bulgular: Migrenli hastalarda hem sağ hem de sol el parmakizi çizgi sayıları, a-b çizgi sayıları ve total çizgi sayıları artmış olarak bulundu.Bu artış sağ el küçük parmağı dışında anlamlıydı.Ayrıca migrenli hastalarda her iki eldeki atd açısı kontrol grubuna göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir şekilde kontrol grubundan daha yüksekti.Ancak erkeklerin sağ eli dışında en sık bulunan örnek tipi ulnar ilmekti. Sonuç: Dermatoglifik örneklerin dağılımında normalden sapma görülmesi, migren etyolojisinde suçlanan genetik yatkınlığı desteklemektedir.Aynı zamanda dermatoglifik örneklerin çalışılması ile; toplumda genetik yatkınlığı olan bireyleri tanımak olasıdır.Bundan dolayı risk altındaki grubun hastalığı tetikleyici durum ve çevreden sakınmalarının sağlanması mümkün olabilir

Since the gland tacks a hilus, and particularly because of its clinical importance, anatomical arterial sources and branching is still not uniform and it needs to be determined by detail. Klival kanal kafatasında, oksipital kemiğin basilar parçasında yer alır. Erciyes Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Anatomi anabilim dalında bulunan 62 adet ve Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Anatomi anabilim dalında bulunan 25 adet (Toplam 87) kafatasında klival kanalın varlığı araştırıldı. 87 kafatasının 6’sında (% 7) kliv195l kanalın varlığı tespit edildi. Kanalların başlangıcı ile foramen magnum arasındaki mesafe ortalama olarak 0.63 cm, kanalların boyu ortalama 0.98 cm olarak tespit edildi. Kanalların tamamı tek girişli olduğu halde çıkışları varyasyon göstermekteydi. Clivus’un çevresinde sinus cavernosus, sinus petrosus inferior ve plexus basilaris’e ait çok sayıda venöz anastomozlar bulunmaktadır. Bu yüzden kafatası tabanı veya beyin sapına yapılacak cerrahi girişimlerde bu kanallarda seyreden venlerin bağlantıları önemli olabilir., Clival canal is located on pars basilaris of the occipital bone. Presence of clival canal were investigated on Erciyes University Medical Faculty, Department of Anatomy at the 62 piece skull and Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine in the department of anatomy at the 25 pieces of skull (total 87). Presence of clival canal detected on 6 of 87 skull (%7). The mean length of this canal was 0.98 cm and mean distance between foramen magnum and clival canal was 0.63 cm. Although all canals are single entry, output of this canal showed variations. There were many anastomoses among the vein of the cavernos sinus, inferior petrosal sinus and basilar plexus. The morphology of this canal can be important because of base of skull and brain stem surgery.

WOS: 000304626800053, PubMed ID: 22197522, Background: The objective of this study is the classification of the thickness of diploe and dimensions of cranium at different points of cranium in men and women according to age groups. Material and method: In the radiology archive, measurements were made at different points in magnetic resonance (MR) images of 305 (188 females and 117 males) patients, the average ages of whom were 40.98 +/- 20.44 (age range: 4-90) and who had no disorder of the bones. To determine diploe thickness, midfrontal, back and front bregma, lambda, opisthocranion and euryon points were used in the measurement. As for the determination of cranial volume, distances between glabella-opisthocranion, basion-vertex, basion-opisthion, euryon-euryon, nasion-basion, nasion-bregma, bregma-lambda and lambda-opisthocranion were measured. The data were loaded to Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 16.0 program. T-test, Mann-Whitney U, Pearson correlation coefficient and Kruskal-Wallis variance analysis were used in the statistical assessment. Results with a p value smaller than 0.05 were accepted as significant. Results: There was a statistically significant positive correlation between age and diploe thickness in all measurement points. The diploe thickness was also increased with age (p < 0.05). In all points, average diploe thickness was higher in age 61 and over than the other groups (p < 0.001). At the same time, diploe thickness in parietal bones was lower than frontal and occipital bones in both sexes. According to craniometric results cranium in males was bigger (p < 0.001). While the distance between glabella-opisthocranion increased in both sexes aged 61 and over, basion-vertex height decreased in women in the same group (p < 0.05). Interestingly, there was no meaningful statistical difference among age groups in terms of maximum cranial width (p > 0.05). Foramen magnum length decreased related to age in both men and women (p < 0.001). Conclusion: These results related to diploe thickness and cranium dimension may be leading in the determination of sex and age; surgical interventions to the cranium and bone graft choice may increase the reliability of the operation. Amaç:Bu çalışmada subcoracoid impingement sendromundaki rolünden dolayı, processus coracoideus'la ilgili morfometrik ölçümler ve değerlendirmeler yapıldı. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışmaya Anatomi Laboratuarları'nda bulunan, yaşı ve cinsiyeti belirsiz, toplam 80 adet scapula dahil edildi.Scapula'lar processus coracoideus ve cavitas glenoidalis arası bölgenin şekline göre üç gruba ayrıldı. Her tipe ait, processus coracoideus uzunluğu, kalınlığı, processus coracoideus ve cavitas glenoidalis üst kenarı arası mesafe, processus coracoideus'un cavitas glenoidalis'ten geçirilen düzlemin lateralinde kalan parçasının uzunluğu ölçülerek kaydedildi. Bulgular:Tip I olarak adlandırılan yuvarlak şekilli grup % 37,5 oranmda, tip II olarak adlandırılan kare şekilli grup % 32,5 oranmda ve tip III olarak adlandırılan çengel şekilli grup % 30 oranmda gözlendi.Yapılan istatistiki değerlendirmede, processus coracoideus uzunluğu ve kalınhğı arasında pozitif korelasyon olduğu görüldü (r = 0,432, p < 0,05 ). Sag ve sol scapulalar karşılaştırıldığında ise, processus coracoideus uzunluğu sag scapula'larda istatistiksel olarak anlamh düzeyde daha uzun bulundu ( t = 2,111, p < 0,05). Sonuç:Çahşmamızdan elde ettiğimiz bulgular göstermektedir ki scapulalann processus coracoideus morfometrileri belirgin şekilde farklılık gösterebilmektedir. Bu yüzden omuz ağrısı şikayetiyle başvuran hastalarda etiyolojide processus coracoideus'a ait anatomik varyasyonlarm göz önünde bulundurulması ve bu bölgeye yapılacak cerrahi girişimlerin buna göre planlanması önemlidir., Purpose:In this study, because of the relationship with the subcoracoid impingement syndrome, various morphometric measurements of the coracoid process were calculated. Material and Methods:A total of 80 dry scapulae with unknown sex and age were obtained from the Department of Anatomy. Scapulae were classified into 3 groups according to shape of the region between the coracoid process and glenoidal cavity.Various measurements were calculated. Results:» was observed that, the percentapes of Type I spherical in shape was 37.5%, Type II square in shape was 32.5% and Type III was hooked in shape was 30%. Statistical analysis evaluations showed correlations between the length and thickness of the coracoid process (r =0.432, p< 0.05). In comparison of the right and left scapulae, the length of the coracoid process was observed to be longer on the right scapula than the left, and this difference was statistically significant (t =2.111, p< 0.05). Conclusion: In present study, it was observed that the morphometry of the coracoid process of the scapulae might show prominent differences. In patients presenting with complaints of shoulder pain, anatomical variations of the coracoid process , should be considered important in planning surgical interventions to the relavant area.
