Homogeneity in nursing qualifications reduces educational inconsistencies between and within countries. However, despite various initiatives, modifying nurse education remains challenging because different countries have their own legislations, structures, motivations, and policies. OBJECTIVES: To summarize the characteristics of nurse education programs around the globe and analyze the similarities and differences between them. DESIGN AND METHODS: A scoping review was performed to identify different characteristics of nurse education programs in Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. Records published between January 2016 and July 2021 were searched in the PubMed, Cinahl, and ERIC databases. The reference lists of all included articles were also searched manually for relevant studies. Articles were eligible if they described nurse education in one or more of the selected countries with a focus on nursing degrees (both undergraduate and postgraduate programs), nursing titles, program duration, study load hours, or practice hours. Data were independently extracted using a predefined extraction sheet. We asked the respective nursing associations for confirmation and to provide any additional information. RESULTS: After searching 9769 records, 117 were included in the synthesis. The included records described characteristics of undergraduate nursing educational programs (n = 50), postgraduate programs (n = 30), or both (n = 37). In total, 86 undergraduate and 82 postgraduate programs were described, with a great variety in degrees, nursing titles, study load hours, and practice hours. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that there is still considerable variation in nurse education programs between countries. These diverse educational pathways lead to different nursing titles and internationally standardized definitions of nursing roles have not been established. This makes it difficult to understand the healthcare role of nurses. Hence, efforts are needed to increase the quality and uniformity of nurse education around the world. 01 januari 2023

Kennis waarmee retailers hun strategie kunnen aanpassen en innovaties in de praktijk kunnen onderbouwen en realiseren. In deze position paper beschrijft de werkgroep “Data-driven retail” van het Retail Innovation Platform welke uitdagingen zij zien voor de detailhandel op het gebied van data-driven retail en hoe zij MKB-ondernemers kunnen ondersteunen met het innoveren van hun retailpraktijk op basis van die data. Hoe kunnen retailers met behulp van (klant)data van toegevoegde waarde zijn in een markt die in toenemende mate gedomineerd wordt door online platformen en grote, vaak internationaal opererende, spelers?

Objective: The schizophrenia and other non-affective disorders categories listed in the DSM-IV, are currently under revision for the development of the fifth edition. The aim of the present study is to demonstrate the validity of these categories by investigating possible differences between diagnostic patient subgroups on various measures. Methods: 1064 patients with a diagnosis of non-affective psychosis (schizophrenia N = 731 (paranoid type 82%), schizoaffective N = 63, schizophreniform N = 120, psychosis not otherwise specified/brief psychotic disorder N = 150) participated in this study. Dependent variables were demographic and clinical characteristics, severity of psychopathology, premorbid and current functioning, and indicators of quality of life. Results: Within the diagnostic group of schizophrenia, no significant differences were observed between paranoid schizophrenia, disorganized, and undifferentiated schizophrenia. Patients with schizophrenia experienced more severe psychopathology and had poorer levels of current functioning compared to patients with psychosis not otherwise specified or brief psychotic disorder. Differences between schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder were less clear. Conclusion: Our results do not support the validity of schizophrenia subtypes. Schizophrenia can be distinguished from brief psychotic disorder and psychotic disorder not otherwise specified. These findings may fuel the actual DSM-V discussion.

Permanency Planning in Foster Care Permanency planning in foster care in the Netherlands is meant to aim for the best possible and stable care situation for a child that is conducive to the child’s positive development. Participants in this planning are the child, the parents and foster parents. Necessary information gathering is structured by foster care workers / professionals and the formal placement authority. The latter prepares a placement advice for the juvenile court. Interviews with all 28 providers of foster care in the Netherlands were conducted to answer the question what methods these organizations use for providing information that is input to permanency planning. Only one organization used a method specifically meant to facilitate permanency planning. Other organizations used methods for describing and analyzing the need for help and deciding on the type of help provided, or methods seeking to improve collaboration and communication between organizations and staff engaged with a family and a child for which a placement decision has to be taken. After serving these first aims the information was used also as input for arguing placement options. Providers voiced a strong wish to strengthen their role in permanency planning. Whether they succeed or not strongly depends on the formal placement authority. Half of the organizations indicated that their relationship with the placement authority is suboptimal. How this relationship can be improved is unclear. A proposal to use a more standardized procedure for collecting and reporting information required for permanency planning decisions was met with skepticism.

As interactive systems become increasingly complex and entwined with the environment, technology is becoming more and more invisible. This means that much of the technology that people come across every day goes unnoticed and that the (potential) workings of ambient systems are not always clearly communicated to the user. The projects discussed in this paper are aimed at increasing public understanding of the existence, workings and potential of screens and ambient technology by visualizing its potential. To address issues and implications of visibility and system transparency, this paper presents work in progress as example cases for engaging people in ambient monitoring and public screening. This includes exploring desired scenarios for ambient monitoring with users as diverse as elderly people or tourists and an interactive tool for mapping public screens.

The term meta origins from the Greek word µ∈τα, meaning after. The word Metaphysics is the title of Aristotle’s book coming after his book on nature called Physics. This has given meta the modern connotation of a nature of a higher order or of a more fundamental kind [1]. Literally, metadata is “data about data‿. It can be any descriptive information about other data sources that is used to aid the organization, identification, representation, localization, interoperability, management, and use of the data [1, 14, 17].

This paper discusses recommending and presenting informative topics based on user ratings of objects. This mapping between and integrated presentation of ratable and informative components accelerates access to unfamiliar domains. We apply this to our example domain of museum collections by having users rate artefacts and then receive recommendations of relavant topics for further study. This process lets users quickly access personally appealing cultural heritage knowledge without prior understanding of how experts have named and organized it.

Hybrid recommender systems are capable of providing better rec-ommendations than non-hybrid ones. Our approach to hybrid recommenders is the use of prediction strategies that determine which prediction technique(s) should be used at the moment an actual prediction is required. In this paper, we determine whether case-based reasoning can provide more accurate prediction strategies than rule-based predictions strategies created manually by experts. Experiments show that case-based reasoning can indeed be used to create pre-diction strategies; it can even increase the accuracy of the recommender in sys-tems where the accuracy of the used prediction techniques is highly spread.

For humans to gain comprehensive views of large amounts of repository contents, they need to have insight into the relations among information objects. It is a challenge to automatically generate presentations of repository contents, through, for example, search results, which reveal such relations to readers. Such presentations must reflect properties of information objects such that large sets of information objects appear as a coherent whole. An approach to this is generation of discourse structures that convey such properties of information objects in presentations. Semantic Web technology provides a conceptual basis for generation of discourse in Web-based information environments. This paper describes automatic generation of sequence and emphasis in presentations of information objects. The cholate-resistant Lactococcus lactis strain C41-2, derived from mild-type L. lactis MG1363 through selection for growth on cholate-containing medium, displayed a reduced accumulation of cholate due to an enhanced active efflux, However, L. lactis C41-2 was not cross resistant to deoxycholate or cationic drugs, such as ethidium and rhodamine 6G, which are typical substrates of the multidrug transporters LmrP and LmrA in L. lactis MG1363, The cholate efflux activity in L. lactis C41-2 was not affected by the presence of valinomycin plus nigericin, which dissipated the proton motive force. In contrast, cholate efflux in L. lactis C41-2 was inhibited by ortho-vanadate, an inhibitor of P-type ATPases and ATP-binding cassette transporters. Besides ATP-dependent drug extrusion by LmrA, two other ATP-dependent efflux activities have previously been detected in L. lactis, one for the artificial pH probe 2',7'-bis-(2 carboxyethyl)-5(and 6)-carboxyfluorescein (BCECF) and the other for the artificial pH probe N-(fluorescein thio-ureanyl)-glutamate (FTUG). Surprisingly, the efflux: rate of BCECF, but not that of FTUG, was significantly enhanced in L. lactis C41-2. Further experiments with L, lactis C41-2 cells and inside out membrane vesicles revealed that cholate and BCECF inhibit the transport of each other. These data demonstrate the role of an ATP-dependent multispecific organic anion transporter in cholate resistance in L. lactis.
