Las ciudades latinoamericanas mayoritariamente realizan la disposición final de residuos en rellenos sanitarios. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with gadolinium based contrast agents (GBCA) is routinely used in the clinic to visualize lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS). Although GBCA reveal endothelial permeability, they fail to expose other aspects of lesion formation such as the magnitude of inflammation or tissue changes occurring at sites of blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption. Moreover, evidence pointing to potential side effects of GBCA has been increasing. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop GBCA-independent imaging tools to monitor pathology in MS. Using MR-elastography (MRE), we previously demonstrated in both MS and the animal model experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) that inflammation was associated with a reduction of brain stiffness. Now, using the relapsing-remitting EAE model, we show that the cerebellum-a region with predominant inflammation in this model-is especially prone to loss of stiffness. We also demonstrate that, contrary to GBCA-MRI, reduction of brain stiffness correlates with clinical disability and is associated with enhanced expression of the extracellular matrix protein fibronectin (FN). Further, we show that FN is largely expressed by activated astrocytes at acute lesions, and reflects the magnitude of tissue remodeling at sites of BBB breakdown. Therefore, MRE could emerge as a safe tool suitable to monitor disease activity in MS.

[ES] La sostenibilidad es un elemento de gestión esencial, tanto desde la óptica tradicional de optimización de recursos, como desde una óptica de competitividad estratégica que diferencia a las organizaciones, especialmente a las del sector turístico. Así lo están entendiendo los principales organismos que promueven la sostenibilidad del turismo en sus tres dimensiones: económica, ambiental y social. La reciente publicación por la Asociación Española de Normalización (AENOR) de la Norma UNE-ISO 21401:2019 referida al Sistema de Gestión de la Sostenibilidad para alojamientos, establece los requisitos que deben incorporar los alojamientos que deseen implementar políticas y objetivos sostenibles en la gestión de sus actividades. El objetivo principal del trabajo de investigación consiste en el estudio del Sistema de Gestión de la Sostenibilidad (SGS) de un alojamiento hotelero situado en la ciudad de Valencia, concretamente el Hotel Las Arenas, dentro del marco de la Norma UNE-ISO 21401:2019. La metodología empleada se basa en el análisis y comprensión de la norma, bibliografía, estudios, informes y noticias relacionadas con la sostenibilidad, junto con cuestionarios y entrevistas con la dirección del alojamiento. Como resultado final del trabajo, se presentan 21 propuestas de mejora en el SGS del Hotel para obtener la certificación como alojamiento sostenible., [EN] Sustainability is an essential management element, both from the traditional viewpoint of resource optimisation and from a strategic competitiveness perspective that differentiates organisations, especially those in the tourism sector. This is the understanding of the main organisations that promote the sustainability of tourism in its three dimensions: economic, environmental and social. The recent publication by the Spanish Association for Standardization (AENOR) of the UNE-ISO 21401:2019 Standard referring to the Sustainability Management System for Accommodations, establishes the requirements that must be incorporated by accommodations that wish to implement sustainable policies and objectives in the management of their activities. The main objective of the research work is to study the Sustainability Management System (SMS) of a hotel accommodation located in the city of Valencia, specifically the Hotel Las Arenas, within the framework of the UNE-ISO 21401:2019 Standard. The methodology used is based on the analysis and understanding of the standard, bibliography, studies, reports and news related to sustainability, together with questionnaires and interviews with the management of the accommodation. As a final result of the work, 21 proposals for improvement in the Hotel's SGS to obtain certification as sustainable accommodation are presented.

Previous studies on multiple sclerosis (MS) and its animal model experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) have highlighted the role of brain-barrier breakdown for the initiation and maintenance of neuroinflammation. Prior research generally confirms that visualization of barrier-disruption is of major interest for an early diagnostic of neuroinflammatory diseases. However, common contrast-agents like gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCA) have important limitations as they don’t accurately show all aspects of brain-barrier breakdown and recent reports point towards potential side effects of repeated gadolinium applications. In the last years, our group has applied novel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques to visualize more accurately neuroinflammation in vivo and to elucidate pathological pathways involved in disease development. In this study, we first used Europium-doped very small iron oxide particles (Eu-VSOP), a new kind of magnetic nanoparticles, to visualize alterations of the blood-cerebrospinal-fluid-barrier (BCSFB) at the site of the Choroid Plexus (CP) in a mouse model of MS. We performed MRI measurements in EAE mice at different phases of disease after injection of Eu-VSOP and analyzed histopathological correlates using fluorescent microscopy. Our results show the ability of Eu-VSOP to visualize BCSFB alterations and neuroinflammatory processes in vivo and to connect them to histopathological findings of a compromised barrier at the level of the CP. In the second part of the study, we performed MRE measurements in EAE mice to assess alterations of brain mechanical properties associated to blood-brain-barrier (BBB) breakdown. We previously demonstrated using MR-elastography (MRE) in both MS and EAE that inflammation led to a reduction of brain stiffness. Here, we demonstrated that highly active inflammatory areas are especially prone to softening, and that, in contrast to GBCA, MRE alterations correlate with clinical disability. We further demonstrate that perivascular areas, where BBB is disrupted, undergo a process of tissue remodeling, characterized by the presence of aggregates of the extracellular matrix protein fibronectin (Fn). Interestingly, Fn expression correlates with MRE changes. Therefore, this study contributes to better understanding the pathophysiological processes around brain barrier breakdown as a central step in the dynamic of lesion formation and to the development of novel MRI techniques as a diagnostic tool for MS., Aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse zur Multiplen Sklerose (MS) und dem dazugehörigen Tiermodell, Experimentelle autoimmune Enzephalomyelitis (EAE), unterstreichen die Rolle von Hirnschranken für den Beginn und die Aufrechterhaltung der Neuroinflammation. In den letzten Jahren rückte die Suche nach Visualisierungsmethoden beeinträchtigter Schranken als Methode zur frühen Diagnostik und zum Verständnis grundlegender pathophysiologischer Prozesse der Neuroinflammation in den Fokus. Gängige Bildgebungsmethoden, die Gadolinium-basierte Kontrastmittel benutzen, haben verschiedene Nachteile, da sie weder alle Aspekte dysfunktionaler Blut-Hirn-Schranken zeigen, noch eindeutige Klarheit über potentielle toxische Effekte wiederholter Kontrastmittelgaben besteht. Unsere Arbeitsgruppe hat sich in den letzten Jahren der Erforschung neuartiger Magnetresonanz (MR) - Bildgebungsmethoden gewidmet, die es erlauben, in vivo Untersuchungen mit histopathologischen und molekularbiologischen Einsichten zu vereinen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit nutzten wir eine neue Art von elektromagnetischen Nanopartikeln, die Europium-dotierten sehr kleinen Eisenoxid Partikel (engl. Europium-doped very small iron oxide particles = Eu-VSOP), um Störungen der Blut-Liquor-Schranke am Plexus choroideus (CP) zu visualisieren. Dafür führten wir, nach intravenöser Gabe von Eu-VSOP, zu verschiedenen Zeitpunkten der EAE MR-Aufnahmen durch und analysierten fluoreszenzmikroskopisch die dazugehörigen histopathologischen Schnitte. Unsere Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Eu-VSOP die in vivo Visualisierung von Hirnschrankenstörungen und neuroinflammatorischen Prozessen ermöglichen und erlauben, diese post mortem mit Veränderungen des CP zu verknüpfen. Unsere Forschungsgruppe hat in vorhergehenden Studien mit MR-Elastographie (MRE) in MS und EAE gezeigt, dass chronisch-entzündliche Erkrankungen des zentralen Nervensystems (ZNS) mit einem Verlust der Steifheit des Hirngewebes einhergehen. Im zweiten Teil der vorliegenden Studie führten wir nun MRE-Messungen in EAE-Mäusen durch, um mittels Veränderungen mechanischer Eigenschaften des Hirngewebes Störungen der Blut-Hirn-Schranke (BHS) zu demaskieren. Wir konnten zeigen, dass jene Hirnregionen, die stärker von der Neuroinflammation betroffen sind, besonders starke Verluste der Steifigkeit präsentieren und dass diese Veränderungen, anders als bei Verwendung gadoliniumhaltiger Kontrastmittel, mit dem klinischen Verlauf korrelieren. Weiterhin konnten wir beweisen, dass perivaskuläre Läsionen, in denen die BHS gestört ist, ein Remodeling mit Aggregaten des Extrazellulärmatrix-Proteins Fibronektin (Fn) durchlaufen, und dass die Genexpression dieses Proteoglykans mit MRE-Veränderungen korreliert. Damit stellt diese Studie eine Grundlage zur Visualisierung von Hirnschrankenstörungen als zentraler pathophysiologischer Prozess zur Entstehung neuroinflammatorischer Läsionen sowie zur Implementierung neuer MR-basierter Bildgebungsmethoden als Diagnosemittel der MS dar.

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar los procesos de apego y vínculo en la relación de dos parejas, una que se reconoce dentro de la diversidad sexual y otra como heterosexual. Se utilizó un tipo de muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia el cual estuvo compuesto por cuatro participantes que conforman dos parejas, en un rango de edad de 20 a 30 años que residen en la ciudad de Bogotá y llevan como mínimo 18 meses de relación. La metodología empleada en esta investigación fue de tipo cualitativo hermenéutico, la recolección de la información se realizó a través de la entrevista semiestructurada denominada episódica; con cada pareja se hicieron tres encuentros, dos de forma individual y uno en pareja. Los resultados obtenidos se organizaron a través de la creación de categorías vinculadas a los objetivos de la investigación y el análisis de la información se hizo haciendo uso del análisis de la conversación. Se pudo concluir que no existen diferencias significativas en las dinámicas de relación ya que los procesos para la construcción del apego y del vínculo se dan de forma similar, sin embargo, se encontró una diferencia significativa en la forma de cómo son visitas y aceptadas las parejas ante la sociedad. The objective of this study was to identify the processes of attachment and bond in the relationship of two couples, one that is recognized within sexual diversity and the other as heterosexual. A non-probabilistic type of convenience sampling was used, which consisted of four participants that make up two couples in an age range of 20 to 30 years old residing in the city of Bogotá and at least 18 months of relationship. Se evaluó, a escala laboratorio, la desalinización por ósmosis directa de agua de mar sintética. Este sistema utilizó un agente osmótico comercial y un agente osmótico preparado, a partir de azúcar/glucosa anhídrida 50/50%p/p y nanopartículas magnéticas, modificadas con carboximetil celulosa (MNp-CMC). De acuerdo a mediciones de dispersión de luz dinámica, las nanopartículas exhibieron un tamaño hidrodinámico de 173±53nm. Un valor de flux de agua desalinizada de 1,3LMH fue determinado al adicionar 112,5mg/ mL de MNp-CMC al agente osmótico sintético, produciéndose un aumento del 9,2%, comparado al flux obtenido sin el uso del nanoaditivo. En adición, se evaluó la remoción de las nanopartículas magnéticas, aplicando un campo electromagnético externo. A pesar que se observó una disminución en la concentración de nanopartículas presentes en el efluente, luego de ocho ciclos de separación magnética, se detectó, por espectrofotometría de absorción atómica, una concentración de 227mg Fe/L en el agua desalinizada, lo cual, supera el valor máximo aceptable de hierro en aguas potables (0,3mg Fe/L), reflejando así la necesidad de mejorar el proceso de separación magnética, para el empleo de nanoaditivos magnéticos, en procesos de desalinización de agua, por osmosis directa. At a laboratory scale by means of a direct osmosis process the desalination of a synthetic seawater was evaluated. This system employed a commercial osmotic and a synthetic osmotic agent prepared from sugar/anhydrous glucose 50/50%w/w and magnetic nanoparticles modified with carboxymethyl cellulose (MNp-CMC). According to measurements from dynamic light scattering, nanoparticles exhibited a hydrodynamic size of 173±53nm. A desalinated water flux of 1,3LMH was determined by the addition of 112,5mg/mL of MNp-CMC to the synthetic osmotic agent, showing an increase of 9.2% as compared to the one obtained without the use of the nanoadditives. Additionally, the magnetic decantation of the nanoparticles by applying an external electromagnetic field was evaluated. Although a concentration decrease of nanoparticles in the water effluent after eight cycles of magnetic separation was detected; by atomic absorption spectroscopy a concentration of 227mg Fe/L in the desalinized water was identified, which is higher than the maximum iron content allowed in drinking water (0.3mg Fe/L), showing that more work is required in order to improve the process of magnetic separation for the application of magnetic nanoadditives in the desalinization of water by direct osmosis systems.
