10. Carbazole and Triazine-Based D–A Covalent Organic Framework for Visible Light-Mediated Photocatalytic C–H Activation of Imidazopyridine and Indole

Abstract

Two-dimensional donor–acceptor covalent organic frameworks (COFs) show considerable promise for metal-free and heterogeneous photocatalysis due to their efficient charge carrier separation and exciton transport upon photoexcitation. To date, numerous photocatalysts have been developed. However, they encounter several challenges, such as inadequate sunlight harvesting ability, poor photostability, and nonreusability. Fortunately, the emergence of COFs presents a promising solution to these problems. Herein, we report an imine-linked CzTA–TAPT COF featuring carbazole as the electron donor and triazine as the electron acceptor. Compared to the previously reported C2-linker-derived CzDA–TAPT COF, this C3-linked COF exhibits good charge separation and charge carrier transport. As a consequence, it demonstrates excellent photocatalytic applicability in the C-3 thiocyanation of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine and indole under ambient conditions under visible light. Moreover, its broad substrate compatibility and high recyclability provide a green and sustainable approach for the thiocyanation of imidazopyridine and indole. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first heterogeneous catalyst demonstrated for the thiocyanation of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine. These findings will inspire further research in the development of high-performance D–A COFs as photocatalysts for organic transformations.

Abstract

Objectives: Dry eye disease (DED is a severe tear insufficiency condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Dry eye refers to conditions of the tear film brought on by decreased tear production and/or excessive tear evaporation. The study’s objective was to compile data on the incidence of DED and associated risk factors. Methods: The government hospital of Uttar Pradesh (India) served as the study’s site for this cross-sectional and observational study. Clinical observation and the ocular surface disease index survey were used to assess the aim of the study. Results: Patients were screened in total, 652. The incidence of DED was reported in 267 (40.9%) individuals. There were 130 DED patients (48.7%) above the age of 40, followed by those between the ages of 21 and 40 (47.2%). Both genders were equally impacted, with men (50.2%) and women (49.2%). Out of 267 DED patients, 128 (47.9%) had a desk job with a computer. Among the patients, 57 (21.3%) had mild DED, 74 (27.7%) had moderate DED, and 136 (50.9%) had severe DED. Abstract

Maxillofacial defects (extraoral or intraoral) are deformities associated with asymmetric regional body growth, unpleasing disfigurement, and a constant reminder of the traumatic experience to the individual, which mediates a more brutal impact on the tender minds of children. The primary goal in the prosthetic rehabilitation of physical defects in this case series was to maintain bodily symmetry, restore aesthetics, function to a limited extent, and psychologically uplift the patient. Reconstructive surgeries remain the mainstay of treatment modality due to better long-term results. However, some clinical scenarios make it not feasible to do so, demanding the need for prosthetic rehabilitation. To achieve the best results in growing children, complementary and cooperative work between prosthodontists and pedodontists is required. Quarterly review by the specialists ensures proper maintenance of the prosthesis and the periodic fabrication of a new prosthesis in harmony with the growing body. The following case series describes the maxillofacial rehabilitation in children with a right enucleated eye (right eye globe removed), amputated distal phalangeal part of the left index finger, and microtia right ear (malformed right external ear), highlighting the significance of minor modifications in workflow and boosting teamwork in effectively treating children. The prevalence of edentulism in India has been on a rise in the recent years. Complete dentures are the most common treatment modality for restoration of lost teeth. Failure to adhere to maintenance of denture hygiene is associated with a lot of problems. Mechanical and chemical methods are the two basic methods of maintenance of denture hygiene. Although scientific literature has failed to establish superiority of any method over other, we suggest adhering to concomitant use of mechanical and chemical cleaning methods for obtaining optimal reduction of denture biofilm. Abstract

There is huge requirement of continuous intelligent monitoring system for human activity recognition in various domains like public places, automated teller machines or healthcare sector. Increasing demand of automatic recognition of human activity in these sectors and need to reduce the cost involved in manual surveillance have motivated the research community towards deep learning techniques so that a smart monitoring system for recognition of human activities can be designed and developed. Because of low cost, high resolution and ease of availability of surveillance cameras, the authors developed a new two-stage intelligent framework for detection and recognition of human activity types inside the premises. This paper, introduces a novel framework to recognize single-limb and multi-limb human activities using a Convolution Neural Network. In the first phase single-limb and multi-limb activities are separated. Next, these separated single and multi-limb activities have been recognized using sequence-classification. For training and validation of our framework we have used the UTKinect-Action Dataset having 199 actions sequences performed by 10 users. We have achieved an overall accuracy of 97.88% in real-time recognition of the activity sequences.
