33. Defect Dipole-Induced HfO2‑Coated Ti3C2Tx MXene/Nickel Ferrite Nanocomposites for Enhanced Microwave Absorption.

Abstract

This work reports for the first time the synthesis of a HfO2-coated Ti3C2Tx MXene sandwich-like nanostructure (MXHf) using a simple hydrothermal method and their excellent microwave absorption property in combination with nickel ferrite and epoxy matrix. The nanocomposites of 2, 3, and 4 mm thick samples were tested for microwave absorption in the X-band, and a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of −20.9 dB with EAB (effective absorption bandwidth) of 2.32 GHz was achieved for the 3 mm thick sample. Its superior performance results from the strong dielectric polarization of defect dipole in the MXene structure, the high number of oxygen vacancies brought about by HfO2 nanoparticles, rich micro-interfaces in the sandwich-like HfO2-Ti3C2Tx-HfO2 structure, and impedance matching by NiFe2O4. A probable mechanism of absorption is proposed. Hence, HfO2/Ti3C2Tx/NiFe2O4 nanocomposites possess essential properties for real-time application in the defense and telecommunication industries. Abstract

Two‐dimensional (2D) metal organic frameworks (MOFs), are an emerging class of layered nanomaterials with well‐defined structure and modular composition. The unique pore structure, high flexibility, tunability, and ability to introduce desired functionality within the structural framework, have led to potential use of MOFs in biomedical applications. This article critically reviews the application of 2D MOFs for therapeutic delivery, tissue engineering, bioimaging, and biosensing. Further, discussion on the challenges and strategies in next generation of 2D MOFs are also included. Abstract

The current work describes the fabrication of Fe-doped zinc oxide thin films on a glass substrate using sol-gel spin coating technique. The undoped and Fe-doped ZnO films were annealed at the 400 °C for 3 h. The structural, optical, morphological and luminescent features were explored by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffuse reflectance, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy techniques. It was noted that XRD patterns showed the polycrystalline nature and demonstrated a hexagonal wurtzite structure of Zn 1-x Fe x O. With the rise in Fe ratio, the grain sizes of the deposited films start to cut as revealed from the SEM images. Interestingly, no variation has been noted in the transmittance value in the visible region. However, a lessening in the band-gap energy with an increment in the Fe concentration has been seen. PL curves exhibit ultraviolet emission peaks at 398 and 485 nm that are associated with the near band edge emission (NBE) and defect emission peak. It has been noted that the NBE emission shifts to longer energy with the rise in the Fe ratio. These results demonstrated the applicability of ZnO thin films as a suitable material for light emitting applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
