Abstract Cyclic rodent populations exhibit pronounced changes in body mass associated with the population cycle phase, long-known as Chitty effect. Although Chitty effect is a common epiphenomenon in both America and Europe, there is still incomplete evidence about the generality of these patterns across the entire range of most species. Moreover, despite decades of research, the underlying factors driving Chitty effect remains poorly understood. Here, we examined the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that may underlie observed patterns in vole size variation in the Iberian common vole Microtus arvalis asturianus. We weighed and measured 2816 adult voles that were captured during 6 trapping periods. Vole numbers and body mass showed strong period- and phase-related variation both in females and males, demonstrating marked Chitty effect in the studied population. Body mass of adult males correlated with body length, evidencing that heavier males are also structurally larger. Statistical models showed that probability of occurrence of large-sized vole (> 37 g) was significantly more likely in reproductive males, during increase and peak phases, and it was modulated by habitat, with crop fields and field margins between crops showing an increased likelihood. We suggest an effect of the habitat on vole body mass mediated by predation.

Objective/Context: This text analyses the assembly debates that preceded the dissolution of the first Mexican Constituent Congress in 1822. The research focuses on the ideological context that gave rise to the idea of dissolution. It examines the language and arguments used to defend or question the continuity of the national representative body of the First Empire. Methodology: For this purpose, the minutes of the Congress will be studied from the end of August, when the “republican” conspiracies against the government of Agustín de Iturbide took place, until its dissolution at the end of October. Through dialogue with various contemporary publications, the proceedings will be contextualised within the currents of liberal thought that fed political debates at the time. Originality: In recent years, thanks to the celebration of the Bicentennial of Independence, historiography has developed research on the period of the First Mexican Empire. However, there is still a long way to go to understand how the theoretical foundations that articulated a constitutional monarchy as the first project of a nation-state in Mexico were forged. Through unpublished sources and a reflection in dialogue with recent historiographical contributions, this article deepens the analysis of the political thought that sought to imagine an empire based on the foundations of political liberalism at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Conclusion: The idea of dissolution, far from being a unilateral decision by Iturbide’s government, resulted from a dialogue between different factions and political interests. Its argumentation was always based on the new constitutional language.

IntroductionVaccine-induced immunity against COVID-19 generates antibody and lymphocyte responses. However, variability in antibody titers has been observed after vaccination, and the determinants of a better response should be studied. The main objective of this investigation was to analyze the inflammatory biomarker response induced in healthcare workers vaccinated with BNT162b2, and its association with anti-Spike (a SARS-CoV-2 antigen) antibodies measured throughout a 1-year follow-up.MethodsAnti-spike antibodies and 92 biomarkers were analyzed in serum, along with socio-demographic and clinical variables collected by interview or exploration.ResultsIn our study, four biomarkers (ADA, IL-17C, CCL25 and CD8α) increased their expression after the first vaccine dose; and 8 others (uPA, IL-18R1, EN-RAGE, CASP-8, MCP-2, TNFβ, CD5 and CXCL10) decreased their expression. Age, body mass index (BMI), smoking, alcohol consumption, and prevalent diseases were associated with some of these biomarkers. Furthermore, higher baseline levels of T-cell surface glycoprotein CD6 and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) were associated with lower mean antibody titers at follow-up, while levels of monocyte chemotactic protein 2 (MCP-2) had a positive association with antibody levels. Age and BMI were positively related to baseline levels of MCP-2 (β=0.02, 95%CI 0.00-0.04, p=0.036) and HGF (β=0.03, 95%CI 0.00-0.06, p=0.039), respectively.ConclusionOur findings indicate that primary BNT162b2 vaccination had a positive effect on the levels of several biomarkers related to T cell function, and a negative one on some others related to cancer or inflammatory processes. In addition, a higher level of MCP-2 and lower levels of HGF and CD6 were found to be associated with higher anti-Spike antibody titer following vaccination.

Abstract Background Obesity has increased in recent years with consequences on diabetes and other comorbidities. Thus, 1 out of 3 diabetic patients suffers cardiovascular disease (CVD). The network among glucose, immune system, endothelium and epicardial fat has an important role on pro-inflammatory and thrombotic mechanisms of atherogenesis. Since semaglutide, long-acting glucagon like peptide 1- receptor agonist (GLP-1-RA), a glucose-lowering drug, reduces body weight, we aimed to study its effects on human epicardial fat (EAT), aortic endothelial cells and neutrophils as atherogenesis involved-cardiovascular cells. Methods EAT and subcutaneous fat (SAT) were collected from patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Differential glucose consumption and protein cargo of fat-released exosomes, after semaglutide or/and insulin treatment were analyzed by enzymatic and TripleTOF, respectively. Human neutrophils phenotype and their adhesion to aortic endothelial cells (HAEC) or angiogenesis were analyzed by flow cytometry and functional fluorescence analysis. Immune cells and plasma protein markers were determined by flow cytometry and Luminex-multiplex on patients before and after 6 months treatment with semaglutide. Results GLP-1 receptor was expressed on fat and neutrophils. Differential exosomes-protein cargo was identified on EAT explants after semaglutide treatment. This drug increased secretion of gelsolin, antithrombotic protein, by EAT, modulated CD11b on neutrophils, its migration and endothelial adhesion, induced by adiposity protein, FABP4, or a chemoattractant. Monocytes and neutrophils phenotype and plasma adiposity, stretch, mesothelial, fibrotic, and inflammatory markers on patients underwent semaglutide treatment for 6 months showed a 20% reduction with statistical significance on FABP4 levels and an 80% increase of neutrophils-CD88. Conclusion Semaglutide increases endocrine activity of epicardial fat with antithrombotic properties. Moreover, this drug modulates the pro-inflammatory and atherogenic profile induced by the adiposity marker, FABP4, which is also reduced in patients after semaglutide treatment.

El artículo expone los fundamentos, la metodología y los resultados alcanzados en la construcción de un Índice de Pobreza Energética Multidimensional Ponderado (IPEMP), para la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina. El IPEMP, propone un método de cálculo para la ponderación de variables, a partir de las cuales se evalúan niveles de criticidad respecto a características socioeconómicas, energéticas y constructivas de los hogares de estudio. Su aplicación sobre la base de datos censales expone la situación respecto a la pobreza energética, donde se destaca la criticidad en los partidos que conforman los sectores del Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires (AMBA), centro y sureste de la provincia de Buenos Aires.

AbstractMorphological similarity between an intruder and a native species can hinder the detection of the intruder. The undetected non-native species will thus have more time to affect the local ecosystem and spread. This paper describes an instance of unnoticed introduction of a fish species morphologically resembling a native endemic species. We report on the first established population of the Rhodes minnow, Ladigesocypris ghigii (Actinopterygii: Leuciscidae), endemic to Rhodes Island, which has been recently introduced to a river near Athens, mainland Greece. When it was first noticed, in 2017, the species was misidentified due to its morphological similarity to Pelasgus marathonicus, the only native leuciscid of the streams and rivers around Athens, until it was subject to genetic and detailed morphological examination. Genetic analyses based on both mitochondrial (cytochrome b) and nuclear (recombination activating gene, RAG1) markers unambiguously identified the collected individuals and provided information on the relationships of Ladigesocypris at both the species and generic level. Our investigation supports that L. ghigii was recently established near Athens, and that the population probably originated from Rhodes Island, an eastern Aegean island. In 2021, a high-density thriving mainland population coexisted solely with the native European eel (Anguilla anguilla) along at least 9.7 km of river habitat. It was assessed as being of high invasive risk for the region where it was established by the Aquatic Species Invasiveness Screening Kit (AS-ISK) screening tool. We propose a feasibility study be undertaken to investigate the application of measures that may include actions to exterminate or contain the population. Special attention is required since the species is considered vulnerable in its native range, while the translocated population coexists with native biota within a stream ecosystem of outstanding local conservation value.

Immunopeptidomics is the area of knowledge focused on the study of peptides assembled in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), or human leukocyte antigen (HLA) in humans, which could activate the immune response via specific and selective T cell recognition. Advances in high-sensitivity mass spectrometry have enabled the detailed identification and quantification of the immunopeptidome, significantly impacting fields like oncology, infections, and autoimmune diseases. Current immunopeptidomics approaches primarily focus on workflows to identify immunopeptides from HLA molecules, requiring the isolation of the HLA from relevant cells or tissues. Common critical steps in these workflows, such as cell lysis, HLA immunoenrichment, and peptide isolation, significantly influence outcomes. A systematic evaluation of these steps led to the creation of an ‘Immunopeptidome Score’ to enhance the reproducibility and robustness of these workflows. This score, derived from LC-MS/MS datasets (ProteomeXchange identifier PXD038165), in combination with available information from public databases, aids in optimizing the immunopeptidome characterization process. The ‘Immunopeptidome Score’ has been applied in a systematic analysis of protein extraction, HLA immunoprecipitation, and peptide recovery yields across several tumor cell lines enabling the selection of peptides with optimal features and, therefore, the identification of potential biomarker and therapeutic targets.

(1) Background: To analyze the prevalence of physical activity (PA) according to the presence of overweight or obesity and other sociodemographic factors in the Spanish adult population. (2) Methods: Cross-sectional study using the European Health Interview Surveys for Spain from 2014 and 2020. (3) Results: In overweight and obese people, the percentage of those who reported not performing any type of PA remained constant between 2014 and 2020, while a statistically significant increase was observed in the percentage of people who walked for 10 min a day and exercised at least 2 days a week. The probability of being obese with respect to normal weight was higher in individuals who reported not engaging in PA during leisure time (OR 1.42; 95% CI 1.31–1.53), those who did not walk 10 min a day at least 2 days a week (OR 1.25; 95% CI 1.15–1.35), and those who did not exercise at least 2 days a week (OR 1.42; 95% CI 1.32–1.53). The probability of being overweight was higher in individuals who reported not performing PA during leisure time (OR 1.07; 95% CI 1.02–1.15) and in those who did not exercise at least 2 days per week (OR 1.15; 95% CI 1.09–1.22). (4) Conclusions: Small increases in PA have been observed in both overweight and obese individuals from 2014 to 2020.

The goal of the study was to analyze the influence of perceived teacher/peer supports and barriers on career development in female engineering undergraduates based on Social Cognitive Career Theory. Thirteen students studying various engineering degrees participated. The results of a qualitative methodology, life stories, and focus groups, showed that the students perceived more teacher and peer supports than barriers from primary school to university. Students' perceptions of teacher support increased due to the climate they promoted in the classrooms, and the delivery of challenging lessons, mainly in subjects such as mathematics, technology, and computing. Peer influence became stronger at university, and was one of the most important factors in students achieving their goals. The main barriers they perceived were being discouraged from choosing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math-Information Technology, Electrical Engineering (STEM-ITEE), feeling isolated when beginning ITEE courses, and negative comments.

Abstract Background and Aim Until the May 2022 Monkeypox (MPXV) outbreak, which spread rapidly to many non‐endemic countries, the virus was considered a viral zoonosis limited to some African countries. The Andalusian circuit of genomic surveillance was rapidly applied to characterize the MPXV outbreak in the South of Spain. Methods Whole genome sequencing was used to obtain the genomic profiles of samples collected across the south of Spain, representative of all the provinces of Andalusia. Phylogenetic analysis was used to study the relationship of the isolates and the available sequences of the 2022 outbreak. Results Whole genome sequencing of a total of 160 MPXV viruses from the different provinces that reported cases were obtained. Interestingly, we report the sequences of MPXV viruses obtained from two patients who died. While one of the isolates bore no noteworthy mutations that explain a potential heightened virulence, in another patient the second consecutive genome sequence, performed after the administration of tecovirimat, uncovered a mutation within the A0A7H0DN30 gene, known to be a prime target for tecovirimat in its Vaccinia counterpart. In general, a low number of mutations were observed in the sequences reported, which were very similar to the reference of the 2022 outbreak (OX044336), as expected from a DNA virus. The samples likely correspond to several introductions of the circulating MPXV viruses from the last outbreak. The virus sequenced from one of the two patients that died presented a mutation in a gene that bears potential connections to drug resistance. This mutation was absent in the initial sequencing before treatment.

Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar los factores de riesgo asociados al reingreso hospitalario en los primeros 30 días post colecistectomía. Métodos: Estudio de casos-controles con datos obtenidos del Hospital Clínico de la UC-Christus, Santiago, Chile. Se incluyeron las colecistectomías realizadas entre los años 2015-2019. Se consideraron como casos aquellos pacientes que reingresaron en los 30 primeros días posterior a una colecistectomía. Se realizó un análisis univariado y multivariado de diferentes posibles factores de riesgo. Resultados: De un total de 4866 colecistectomías, 79 pacientes presentaron reingreso hospitalario. Los resultados estadísticamente significativos en el análisis univariado fueron; tumor sólido al momento de la colecistectomía (OR = 7.58) bilirrubina directa preoperatoria alterada (OR = 2.52), fosfatasa alcalina preoperatoria alterada (OR = 3.25), ingreso de urgencia (OR = 2.04), coledocolitiasis al ingreso (OR = 4.34) realización de otros procedimientos (OR = 4.12) y complicaciones postoperatorias. En el análisis multivariado sólo la realización de otro procedimiento durante la colecistectomía fue estadísticamente significativa (OR = 4.24). Conclusión: La realización de otros procedimientos durante la colecistectomía es un factor de riesgo de reingreso hospitalario en los 30 días posteriores a la colecistectomía.

Summary: Background: Post-COVID-19 condition has recently been defined as new or persistent common COVID-19 symptoms occurring three months after disease onset. The pathology of the disease is unclear, but immune and vascular factors seem to play a significant role. The incidence, severity, and implications of the disease after COVID-19 infection in pregnancy have not been established. We aimed to study the incidence and main risk factors for post-COVID-19 condition in an obstetric population and their implications for maternal and perinatal morbimortality. Methods: This is a prospective observational cohort study undertaken including women during pregnancy or at admission for labour with acute COVID-19 infection from March 9th, 2020 to June 11th, 2022. The inclusion criteria were confirmed acute COVID-19 infection during the recruitment period, a lack of significant language barrier and consent for follow-up. Patients were clinically followed-up by telephone via semi structured questionnaires. The exclusion criteria were loss to follow-up, spontaneous miscarriage, and legal termination of pregnancy. Patients were classified into groups according to the severity of symptoms at onset. We included patients from the first six first waves of the pandemic according to national epidemiological data in Spain. We studied the incidence of post-COVID-19 condition and their main demographic, clinical and obstetric risk factors. Findings: A total of 409 pregnant women were recruited at acute diagnosis, and 286 were followed-up. The mean time to follow-up was 92 weeks (standard deviation ± 28 weeks; median 100 weeks (Interquartile range: 76; 112)). A total of 140 patients had at least one post-COVID-19 symptom at least three months after acute infection. Neurological (60%) and cutaneous (55%) manifestations were the most frequent findings. The following profiles were identified as presenting a higher risk of post-COVID-19 condition: migrant women born in countries with lower Human Development Index; multiparous women; women with COVID-19 during pregnancy, mainly during the first and third trimesters, and in the first and second waves of the pandemic; women who had a higher number of symptoms; women who had a higher incidence of moderate and severe symptoms; women who required hospitalisation due to COVID-19 complications; and women who were not vaccinated before disease onset. We did not find any significant difference in perinatal results, such as gestational week at delivery, birthweight, the need for neonatal care or 5-min Apgar score, and newborns benefited from a high rate of breastfeeding at discharge. Women who were infected during successive waves of the pandemic had a significant and constant decrease in the risk of post-COVID-19 condition comparing to estimated risk in the first wave (OR: 0.70; 95% CI: 0.62, 0.92). Symptoms tended to resolve over time heterogeneously. Symptoms of myalgia and arthralgia took longer to resolve (mean of 60 weeks and 54 weeks, respectively). In a small but significant proportion of patients, neurological and psycho-emotional symptoms tended to become chronic after 90 weeks. Interpretation: At least 34.2% of obstetric patients from our cohort with acute COVID-19 infection presented post-COVID-19 condition symptoms. Demographic and acute disease characteristics as well as specific pregnancy-related risk factors were identified. This is the first study to assess post-COVID-19 condition in pregnant women. Further analysis on the biological pathophysiology of post-COVID-19 is needed to explain the characteristics of the disease. La música popular ha funcionado en numerosas ocasiones como una herramienta para articular discursos y lanzar mensajes que desafían los valores de una sociedad. Más allá de repertorios musicales con un explícito mensaje político, existen numerosos ejemplos que desde el mainstream y a través de estrategias más sutiles envían mensajes que resultan subversivos y generan debates sobre convenciones que han sido normalizadas en nuestra cultura. En los últimos años, la proliferación de las redes sociales ha incrementado el papel de la música en las discusiones políticas, y el crecimiento del consumo musical audiovisual a través de YouTube y las redes sociales ha convertido a los videoclips en un soporte fundamental para dar forma a estos mensajes. En este artículo analizamos cómo se utiliza el espacio urbano en la música mainstream para articular discursos capaces de generar debate en la sociedad. Partimos de una concepción dual (física y simbólica) del espacio urbano para entenderlo como un constructo social cargado se significados, y abordamos su funcionamiento en la música popular estudiando casos recientes, como la representación de espacios e imaginarios religiosos en los videoclips mainstream.

ObjectiveThe contribution of beta-cell dysfunction to type 2 diabetes (T2D) is not restricted to insulinopenia in the late stages of the disease. Elevated fasting insulinemia in normoglycemic humans is a major factor predicting the onset of insulin resistance and T2D, demonstrating an early alteration of beta-cell function in T2D. Moreover, an early and chronic increase in fasting insulinemia contributes to insulin resistance in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice. However, whether there are genetic factors that promote beta-cell-initiated insulin resistance remains undefined. Human variants of the mitochondrial transporter ABCB10, which regulates redox by increasing bilirubin synthesis, have been associated with an elevated risk of T2D. The effects of T2D ABCB10 variants on ABCB10 expression and the actions of ABCB10 in beta-cells are unknown.MethodsThe expression of beta-cell ABCB10 was analyzed in published transcriptome datasets from human beta-cells carrying the T2D-risk ABCB10 variant. Insulin sensitivity, beta-cell proliferation, and secretory function were measured in beta-cell-specific ABCB10 KO mice (Ins1Cre-Abcb10flox/flox). The short-term role of beta-cell ABCB10 activity on glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) was determined in isolated islets.ResultsCarrying the T2Drisk allele G of ABCB10 rs348330 variant was associated with increased ABCB10 expression in human beta-cells. Constitutive deletion of Abcb10 in beta-cells protected mice from hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance by limiting HFD-induced beta-cell expansion. An early limitation in GSIS and H2O2-mediated signaling caused by elevated ABCB10 activity can initiate an over-compensatory expansion of beta-cell mass in response to HFD. Accordingly, increasing ABCB10 expression was sufficient to limit GSIS capacity. In health, ABCB10 protein was decreased during islet maturation, with maturation restricting beta-cell proliferation and elevating GSIS. Finally, ex-vivo and short-term deletion of ABCB10 in islets isolated from HFD-fed mice increased H2O2 and GSIS, which was reversed by bilirubin treatments.ConclusionsBeta-cell ABCB10 is required for HFD to induce insulin resistance in mice by amplifying beta-cell mass expansion to maladaptive levels that cause fasting hyperinsulinemia.

Abstract We evaluate the shared genetic regulation of mRNA molecules, proteins and metabolites derived from whole blood from 3029 human donors. We find abundant allelic heterogeneity, where multiple variants regulate a particular molecular phenotype, and pleiotropy, where a single variant associates with multiple molecular phenotypes over multiple genomic regions. The highest proportion of share genetic regulation is detected between gene expression and proteins (66.6%), with a further median shared genetic associations across 49 different tissues of 78.3% and 62.4% between plasma proteins and gene expression. We represent the genetic and molecular associations in networks including 2828 known GWAS variants, showing that GWAS variants are more often connected to gene expression in trans than other molecular phenotypes in the network. Our work provides a roadmap to understanding molecular networks and deriving the underlying mechanism of action of GWAS variants using different molecular phenotypes in an accessible tissue.

Abstract Background There are few updated studies on the prevalence and management of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), which could be underdiagnosed or undertreated. The COVID-19 pandemic may have worsened the deficiencies in the diagnosis and treatment of these patients. Electronic medical records (EMR) offer an opportunity to assess the impact and management of medical processes and contingencies in the population. Objective To estimate AD prevalence in Spain over a 6-year period, based on treated patients, according to usual clinical practice. Additionally, to describe the management of AD-treated patients and the evolution of that treatment during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Retrospective study using the Spanish IQVIA EMR database. Patients treated with donepezil, galantamine, rivastigmine, and/or memantine were included in the study. Annual AD prevalence (2015–2020) was estimated and extrapolated to the national population level. Most frequent treatments and involved specialties were described. To assess the effect of COVID-19, the incidence of new AD cases in 2020 was calculated and compared with newly diagnosed cases in 2019. Results Crude AD prevalence (2015–2020) was estimated at 760.5 per 100,000 inhabitants, and age-standardized prevalence (2020) was 664.6 (male 595.7, female 711.0). Monotherapy was the most frequent way to treat AD (86.2%), in comparison with dual therapy (13.8%); rivastigmine was the most prescribed treatment (37.3%), followed by memantine (36.4%) and donepezil (33.0%). Rivastigmine was also the most utilized medication in newly treated patients (46.7%), followed by donepezil (29.8%), although donepezil persistence was longer (22.5 vs. 20.6 months). Overall, donepezil 10 mg, rivastigmine 9.5 mg, and memantine 20 mg were the most prescribed presentations. The incidence rate of AD decreased from 148.1/100,000 (95% confidence interval [CI] 147.0–149.2) in 2019 to 118.4/100,000 (95% CI 117.5–119.4) in 2020. Conclusions The obtained prevalence of AD-treated patients was consistent with previous face-to-face studies. In contrast with previous studies, rivastigmine, rather than donepezil, was the most frequent treatment. A decrease in the incidence of AD-treated patients was observed during 2020 in comparison with 2019, presumably due to the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on both diagnosis and treatment. EMR databases emerge as valuable tools to monitor in real time the incidence and management of medical conditions in the population, as well as to assess the health impact of global contingencies and interventions.

Resumen: Introducción y objetivo: El fibroxantoma atípico (FXA) y el sarcoma pleomórfico dérmico (SPD) son neoplasias de origen mesenquimal poco frecuentes. Debido a la baja incidencia del SPD y a una nomenclatura históricamente confusa existe poca información acerca de la verdadera agresividad de este tumor. Realizamos el presente estudio con el objetivo de identificar qué características clínicas y/o histológicas del SPD son predictoras de riesgo de recidiva. Material y método: Se diseñó un estudio bicéntrico observacional retrospectivo de 31 casos de SPD diagnosticados y tratados en el Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia y el Instituto Valenciano de Oncología, entre los años 2005 y 2020. MV140 is an inactivated whole-cell bacterial mucosal vaccine with proven clinical efficacy against recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). These infections are primarily caused by uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) strains, which are unique in their virulence factors and remarkably diverse. MV140 contains a non-UPEC strain, suggesting that it may induce an immune response against different UPEC-induced UTIs in patients. To verify this, we experimentally evaluated the cellular and humoral responses to UTI89, a prototypical UPEC strain, in mice vaccinated with MV140, as well as the degree of protection achieved in a UPEC UTI89 model of acute cystitis. The results show that both cellular (Th1/Th17) and antibody (IgG/IgA) responses to UTI89 were induced in MV140-immunized mice. MV140 vaccination resulted in an early increased clearance of UTI89 viable bacteria in the bladder and urine following transurethral infection. This was accompanied by a highly significant increase in CD4+ T cells in the bladder and an increase in urinary neutrophils. Collectively, our results support that MV140 induces cross-reactive humoral and cellular immune responses and cross-protection against UPEC strains.

BackgroundLimited information is available on the active process of seeking medical help in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) at early stages. The aim of this study was to assess the phenomenon of medical help-seeking in early AD and to identify associated factors.MethodsA multicenter, non-interventional study was conducted including patients of 50–90 years of age with prodromal or mild AD (National Institute on Aging/Alzheimer’s Association criteria), a Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score ≥ 22, and a Clinical Dementia Rating-Global score (CDR-GS) of 0.5–1.0. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted.ResultsA total of 149 patients were included. Mean age (SD) was 72.3 (7.0) years, 50.3% were female, and 87.2% had a CDR-GS score of 0.5. Mean disease duration was 1.4 (1.8) years. Ninety-four (63.1%) patients sought medical help, mostly from neurologists. Patients with help-seeking intentions were mostly female (60.6%) with a CDR-GS score of 0.5 (91.5%) and had a greater awareness of diagnosis, poorer quality of life, more depressive symptoms, and a more severe perception of their condition than their counterparts. Lack of help-seeking intentions was associated with male sex (p = 0.003), fewer years of education (p = 0.005), a low awareness of diagnosis (p = 0.005), and a low emotional consequence of the condition (p = 0.016).ConclusionUnderstanding the phenomenon of active medical help-seeking may facilitate the design of specific strategies to improve the detection of cognitive impairment, especially in patients with a lower level of educational attainment and poor awareness of their condition.
