2. Neural-network acceleration of projection-based model-order-reduction for finite plasticity: Application to RVEs

Abstract

Compared to conventional projection-based model-order-reduction, its neural-network acceleration has the advantage that the online simulations are equation-free, meaning that no system of equations needs to be solved iteratively. Consequently, no stiffness matrix needs to be constructed and the stress update needs to be computed only once per increment. In this contribution, a recurrent neural network is developed to accelerate a projection-based model-order-reduction of the elastoplastic mechanical behaviour of an RVE. In contrast to a neural network that merely emulates the relation between the macroscopic deformation (path) and the macroscopic stress, the neural network acceleration of projection-based model-order-reduction preserves all microstructural information, at the price of computing this information once per increment.

Abstract

ObjectivesThis 109-week, nonrandomized, observational study of mucopolysaccharidosis II (MPS II) patients already enrolled in the Hunter Outcome Survey (HOS) (NCT00882921), assessed the long-term immunogenicity of idursulfase, and examined the effect of idursulfase-specific antibody generation on treatment safety (via infusion-related adverse events [IRAEs]) and pharmacodynamics (via urinary glycosaminoglycans [uGAGs]).MethodsMale patients ≥ 5 years, enrolled in HOS regardless of idursulfase treatment status were eligible. Blood/urine samples for anti-idursulfase antibody testing and uGAG measurement were collected every 12 weeks.ResultsDue to difficulties in enrolling treatment-naïve patients, data collection was limited to 26 enrolled patients of 100 planned patients (aged 5.1-35.5 years) all of whom were non-naïve to treatment. Fifteen (58%) patients completed the study. There were 11/26 (42%) seropositive patients at baseline (Ab +), and 2/26 (8%) others developed intermittent seropositivity by Week 13. A total of 9/26 patients (35%) had ≥ 1 sample positive for neutralizing antibodies. Baseline uGAG levels were low due to prior idursulfase treatment and did not change appreciably thereafter. Ab + patients had persistently higher uGAG levels at entry and throughout the study than Ab - patients. Nine of 26 (34%) patients reported IRAEs. Ab + patients appeared to have a higher risk of developing IRAEs than Ab - patients. However, the relative risk was not statistically significant and decreased after adjustment for age.Conclusions50% of study patients developed idursulfase antibodies. Notably Ab + patients had persistently higher average uGAG levels. A clear association between IRAEs and antibodies was not established.

38. Numerical and analytical approach to study condensation for automotive heat exchangers

Abstract

Heat exchanger (condenser, evaporator etc.) is one of the essential component in the automotive air conditioning system. In these heat exchanger the phase change phenomenon involves, which makes the calculation complicated. In this study, two different approaches are used to analyze the condensation phenomena inside the automotive condenser. The first approach, an analytical study based on empirical correlation is used to calculate the heat transfer and internal pressure drop of the condenser and it is validated with experimental results. In analytical approach, condenser is discretized into multiple segments and e-NTU method is applied in each segment to calculate the heat transfer and internal pressure drop. In the second approach, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used to analyze condensation phenomena inside the microchannel and it is compared with the analytical results. The maximum deviation of heat transfer and internal pressure drop (refrigerant side) for the analytical approach is found to be 8.3% & 9.4% respectively compared to experimental results. In CFD simulation, the condensation of refrigerant commenced from 125 mm in the first pass along the length of the tube (in the direction of refrigerant flow), while the same is begun from 128 mm in the case of analytical approach. Beside to that the dryness fraction across all the passes of the condenser is compared between these approaches.
