Infectious canine cyclic thrombocytopenia or canine anaplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by Anaplasma platys. In Mexico, cases of human infection have been reported. The present cross-sectional study aimed to determine the frequency of A. platys infection in the municipality of Veracruz, Mexico, by nested polymerase chain reaction method. A total of 100 blood samples from dogs living in the municipality were collected and analyzed between March and June 2022. A descriptive analysis of blood samples for hemoparasites frequencies was performed with the free online software VassarStats. The evaluated variables were sex, street access, usage of ticks control methods, and living environment. The free online software WinEpi software was used to calculate odds ratio (OR) and confidence interval (CI: 95.00%). Out of 100 analyzed blood samples, 27 were confirmed positive for A. platys. The only risk factor found was the absence of tick prevention methods (OR = 9.81; 95.00% CI: 23.00 - 44.50). In conclusion, the frequency of A. platys was 27.00% and no risk factors were identified. - Abstract
Pig Respiratory and Reproductive Syndrome (PRRS) is an en-demic disease in pigs that tends to become chronic.Efforts are focused onprevention and control to minimize damage, as no treatment exists. The effect ofadding docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and turmeric oleoresin and capsicum (plantextracts, PE) in the feeding of breeding sows affected with PRRS on their productiveperformance, health and progeny was evaluated. Forty-eight first-parturition sowswere randomly distributed into four treatments (Tr1, control; Tr2, DHA; Tr3, PE; Tr4,DHA+PE). The second parturition assay followed the same design. Tr3 and Tr4 gotmore piglet weight at birth in both parturitions (P < 0.05) than the others. In bothdeliveries, the addition of DHA and PE resulted in fewer mummies (P < 0.05) andlower cost than the other treatments. Tr3 had a higher number of live piglets in bothparturitions, while Tr4 only got that in the second parturition (P < 0.05). More pigletswere weaned in Tr2 and Tr3 (P > 0.05) in the first parturition; but Tr2 outperformedthe others in the second parturition (P > 0.05). By ELISA, all pigs developedantibodies against PRRS. The groups receiving DHA and/or PE had higher serumIgG concentrations than control (P < 0.05). It is concluded that the addition of DHAand PE improves the productive response and induced higher concentrations of IgGin both parturitions, in addition to reducing the production cost of sows., El Síndrome Respiratorio y Reproductivo del Cerdo (PRRS) es una enfermedad endémica en porcinos que tiende a la cronicidad.

- Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of bovine leukosis virus (BLV) in specialized and dual-purpose dairy cows located in the central zone of Veracruz state in Mexico, using endpoint polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The study population consisted of 307 specialized dairy cows and 95 dual-purpose cows from 13 municipalities located in the study area. All cows were apparently healthy and ≥ 3 years old. Cows were stratified by age (3-5, 6-8 and ≥ 9 years). The overall prevalence of infection was 6.96%; the calculated prevalence in dairy cows was 7.82% and in dual-purpose cows it was 4.21%. The municipality with the highest proportion was Acajete (14.28%), followed by Huatusco and Tomatlán (11.53%). The association analysis confirms the infection's independence to the cows' productive purpose. The results by age strata were 3-5 (4.60%), 6-8 (8.00%) and ≥ 9 (18.40%) with X2 = 9.96, with an odds ratio of 4.68 for the stratum ≥ 9 years with a significant difference. The present study determined the prevalence of proviral DNA of BLV in dairy and dual-purpose cows in six municipalities in the central zone of Veracruz state, Mexico, using endpoint PCR.

- Abstract
Objective: Analyze the potential of the Municipality of Cuitláhuac, Veracruz, to develop rural tourism. Methodology: A situational diagnosis was made through the application of a questionnaire to 75 producers in five locations, a survey of 15 municipality visitors and a semi-structured interview to seven key informants. An inventory of infrastructure and tourist services available was made. Results: Four routes are proposed, two associated with sugar cane and two with Persian lemon, for a total of 16 possible activities. Based on the findings, it is proposed to train farmers on agritourism through local organizations and establish a series of projects and dissemination programs to encourage rural tourism - given the cultural traditions, natural attractions and agricultural activities within the municipality-, as well as work in together with government at different levels on resources management to improve infrastructure and quality of tourism activities in the municipality. Limitations: We can say that there is insecurity in Cuitláhuac´s neighboring municipalities; in addition, no previous contact with respondents limited their participation and the reliability of the information they provided about their properties and belongings, coupled with little or no knowledge about agritourism in the communities. Conclusions: The Municipality of Cuitláhuac, Veracruz has potential to develop agritourism, but an integrative proposal is required to promote it., Objetivo: analizar el potencial el municipio de Cuitláhuac, Veracruz, para desarrollar el turismo rural.

- Abstract
In order to know the variables that motivate the decision to plant improved seeds of INIFAP origin, 100 questionnaires were applied to corn producers in eight municipalities of Central Veracruz during 2015. The socioeconomic variables associated with planting decisions were: closeness of the point of sale (r= 0.9451) and knows (r) the seeds of the INIFAP (r= 0.9199). The most important technical variable was: to recognize advantages over creole seeds (r= 0.6162).The most important perceptual characteristics (p< 0.0001) that motivate the seed of INIFAP seed were: tortilla flavor (r= 0.558), and aptitude for nixtamalization (r= 0.4369). The INIFAP was positioned (78%) in the regional market with materials H-520 andVS-536, whose technical advantage is the grain yield, compared with native materials. The perceptual characteristics that the interviewees perceive in the H-520 and that favor their sowing are, good taste of tortilla (r= 0.4117), apt for nixtamalization (r= 0.4115), good consistency (r= 0.2583) and yield/mass and tortilla (r= 0.2366). The variety VS-536, is perceived with good aroma (r= 0.3315), good cooking time (r= 0.2124), and yiel /mass and tortilla (r= 0.2311). The data indicate that the perceptual characteristics do not favor the INIFAP materials, nor do the current forms of dissemination motivate the sowing of their seeds, and it has been the recommendation of friends and family the most important influence (r= 0.5336). Poverty, a major national challenge, is a situation or lifestyle which arises as a result of the lack of resources to meet basic human needs, such as food, health and housing. In 2008, the Food Bank of Veracruz, A.C. (BAV) signed a cooperation agreement with the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Veracruz. Since then, workshops on dairy products making as well as workshops on meat products manufacturing has been taught and have had an impact on participants and communities nutrition. Whole milk received from donation was pasteurized and processed. Cheese and yogurt produced were integrated into the basic food baskets donated to beneficiaries. Almost 8000 families from 27 different neighborhoods in the Veracruz-Boca del Rio metropolitan area were benefited. Research has also been a component associated to these activities, for example, a pork sausage added with different percentages of textured soybean was tested, in order to increase its protein content and offer a better nutritive value product for human consumption. The collaborative effort is now seeking to empower people who participated in the previous workshops teaching them now courses on business projects, so they can be self-employed and become financially independent in the future. Several schools of the University of Veracruz are involved in teaching workshops for dairy and meat making products and in training these people to integrate an association that could help them to create and promote small businesses (SMEs). It is concluded that to solve complex problems, such as food poverty, a collaborative interdisciplinary approach linking several agencies of various kinds and different educational institutions is required. Such approach will optimize the strengths each one of the participants have and will maximize the chances of success.

SWOT analysis is used to define an academic group (CA) and its research lines (LGAC) for the International Agribusiness Bachelor degree program offered by the University of Veracruz (LAI-UV) in Veracruz, Mexico. The current context of agribusiness and agro-industrial CA registered by the Professorship Improvement Program (PROMEP) was analyzed. We identified 12 active CA in Mexico, of which only two are consolidated, two others are in process of consolidation, and the rest are at an initial stage. The numbers of LGAC by CA are very diverse, ranging from one to four. We identified the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the LAI-UV program which allowed proposing the creation of the CA "Sustainable Agribusinesses†with one LGAC, namely: Agribusiness and agro-industrial chains. We conclude that the SWOT analysis is a useful tool for identifying areas of research in educational institutions.

- Abstract
Among the current new initiatives for environmental protection and preservation in Mexico, there is a program aiming to pay for environmental services in key areas with ecological value. One of these cases is San Andrés Tuxtla, in the state of Veracruz, where payment by itself does not represents a sustainable economic option for owners, thus social recognition must also be intended. The objective of this study was to ascertain the forest and other alternatives landscapes value, has for the population receiving its benefits as retained water. Using the contingent value method 241 interviews was conducted, and photos of landscapes other than rainforest were ranked according to its relevance to the economy and preservation. A positive willingness to pay for preserving the canopy was associated with some demographics such as age, education, and income.

- Abstract
Willingness to pay (WTP) for environmental services from a cattle ranching region encompasing Veracruz, La Antigua, and Boca del Río, Veracruz State, Mexico, is reported. A survey questionnaire, randomly applied to a stratified sample of 199 individuals, about regional demographic attributes, natural resources, wildlands condition, environmental quality and animal husbandry was administered. Contingent valuation techniques were applied, and supplemented with interviews and anthropologic field work. Results revealed that 83,42% of the sampled individuals have a positive WTP for an improved environment, and 84,42% of respondents will accept increases in taxation as the venue to that end; 85,93% of the public in the sample will rather see that cattle ranchers should be compensated by government for the extra cost of an environmentally conscious management. WTP through increased taxation has statistically significant influences (p<0,05) from household income, severity of regulations, and restrictions to ranching practices. Direct payment resulted acceptable, as well as additional government regulations mandating best ranching practices. Hence, these results led to support that public opinion favors a variety of payment mechanisms. Approval of additional environmental legislation, as well as strict enforcement of existing cattle raising regulations was also noticed., Resumen: Se estudió en Veracruz, La Antigua y Boca del Río, Veracruz, México, la disposición a pagar (DAP) por servicios ambientales generados en una zona ganadera.

Conclusions: The Municipality of Cuitláhuac, Veracruz has potential to develop agritourism, but an integrative proposal is required to promote it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cows were stratified by age (3 - 5, 6 - 8 and ≥ 9 years). The results by age strata were 3 - 5 (4.60%), 6 - 8 (8.00%) and ≥ 9 (18.40%) with X
2 = 9.96, with an odds ratio of 4.68 for the stratum ≥ 9 years with a significant difference. The present study determined the prevalence of proviral DNA of BLV in dairy and dual-purpose cows in six municipalities in the central zone of Veracruz state, Mexico, using endpoint PCR., Competing Interests: The authors have no conflict of interests to declare., (© 2023 Urmia University. - Abstract
Introduction: Brucellosis is a disease of high morbidity that affects several animal species, is transmitted to humans and, therefore, is a zoonosis. It is caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella. In this study we aim to determine seroprevalence, risk factors, and spatial distribution of caprine brucellosis in 14 municipalities in the central region of the state of Veracruz., Materials and Methods: This cross-stratified multistage study was conducted between 2009 and 2012. It included 572 animals of 81 production units selected by consensus according to the value tables of Cannon and Roe. The diagnosis was by Card Testing and Radial Immunodiffusion. The seroprevalence was determined with the VassarStats® risk factor program and odds., Results: The overall seroprevalence was 0.52% (95% CI: 0.13-1.65) and production units 2.47% (95% CI: 0.43-9.46). They were identified as risk factor for infection, production units in feedlot system and Card Testing seroconversion to vaccine against brucellosis; and as a protective factor, vaccination., Conclusions: Seroprevalence and distribution of goat brucellosis is low, the intensive system is a risk, and according with the Health Ministry in order that human cases are scarce.
