Wearable devices are starting to gain popularity, which means that a large portion of the population is starting to acquire these products. This kind of technology comes with a lot of advantages, as it simplifies different tasks people do daily. However, as they recollect sensitive data, they are starting to be targets for cybercriminals. The number of attacks on wearable devices forces manufacturers to improve the security of these devices to protect them. Many vulnerabilities have appeared in communication protocols, specifically Bluetooth. We focus on understanding the Bluetooth protocol and what countermeasures have been applied during their updated versions to solve the most common security problems. We have performed a passive attack on six different smartwatches to discover their vulnerabilities during the pairing process. Furthermore, we have developed a proposal of requirements needed for maximum security of wearable devices, as well as the minimum requirements needed to have a secure pairing process between two devices via Bluetooth.

The aim of this study was to implement the Robson Ten Groups Classification System (RTGCS) to identify the main contributors to the caesarean section (CS) rate and to evaluate whether the introduction of a plan of obstetrical interventions reduced this rate. An observational retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted during two time periods at Alicante University General Hospital. In the pre-implementation period (2009-2012), RTGCS was applied to identify the main groups contributing to the overall CS rate. In the post-implementation period (2013-2017), RTGCS was applied again to identify changing trends in CS rates. In all, 11,034 deliveries during the pre-intervention period and 11,453 during the post-intervention period were analysed. The overall CS rate was 23.9% and 20.9%, respectively. There were no changes in perinatal outcomes. In the post-intervention period, there was a significant decrease of the CS rate in the groups of targeted interventions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8B.Impact statementWhat is already known on this subject? High CS rates are becoming a public health problem because of risks, costs, excessive medicalisation, and abuse of resources. RTGCS provides a framework for auditing and analysing CS rates. What do the results of this study add? RTGCS can identify the groups that have the greatest impact on the CS rate and monitor changes in it consequent to policy changes. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice? The introduction of a strategic plan with evidence-based clinical interventions may have a greater effect on the CS rate than other features justifying the increase in the incidence of CS. Central dopaminergic neurotransmission deregulation has been related with neurodegenerative sicknesses, like Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s Chorea. During the last decades, many compounds with dopaminergic activity have been designed, synthesized and pharmacologically evaluated, but despite all these efforts, an effective drug able to improve or cure these pathologies has not been achieved. With the purpose to contribute in this essential search, this work describes the design, synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of the lilolidine derivative, 6-(2-aminoindanyl)-N-(2,4,5,6-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[3,2,1-ij]quinoline hydrochloride) 4 (MAIL), with the purpose of restoring the homeostasis of dopaminergic transmission in Parkinson’s disease and/or Huntington’s Chorea. To perform that, different organic synthesis classic and heterocyclic strategies were employed through a convergent route. Also, a preliminar pharmacological evaluation was done, where the stereotyped behavior of Sprague-Dawley rats was studied after the ICV (intracerebroventricular) and IE (intrastriatum) administration of the lilodine derivative. The results obtained of compound 4 showed a central dopaminergic agonist activity through dopaminergic mechanisms.
