This work is devoted to the study of antimicrobial properties of cellulose-containing textile materials treated with new safe biocidal products of thiosulfonate structure. A resource-saving method of providing antimicrobial properties to cellulose-containing textile materials is presented. High antimicrobial activity of biocidal products after washing was established. The duration of action and expediency of their use in the textile industry are proved. It is shown that after 10 washes the treated tissues lose only 14-15% of antimicrobial properties.

"The current work presents a comparative analysis of the colour fastness against repeated washing of cellulose-containing fabrics dyed by “cold” and classical technologies, using different types of active dyes, at various concentrations in the dye bath. Mathematical models have been proposed to describe the determined dependencies. The study uses Reakol dyes – a trademark of bifunctional active dyes manufactured by Khimtex (Kherson), which can be used for “cold” resource-saving dying technologies. The studied active dyes are characterized by a wide colour spectrum, good solubility, colour purity and high resistance of colours to wet treatments. The study has found that increasing the concentration of Reakol dyes in the dye bath, from 10 to 30 g/L, as a rule, had no significant influence on the colour fastness of fabrics to repeated washing. However, the colour intensity on the fibre significantly rose when increasing the dye concentration in the dye bath. It was determined that, when using the “cold” dyeing technology, sweeping changes in the general colour contrast and residual concentration of the dye on the fibre occurred after the first 5 washes. The changes in these indicators somewhat stabilized after the following 10-20 washes. However, a proportional relationship between the variation in the general colour contrast and a decrease in the dye colour intensity on the fibre after the corresponding number of washes of the studied fabrics was not detected. Introduction. In recent years, there has been a constant search for more advanced and environmentally friendlymeans for antimicrobial treatment of cellulose-containing tissues of various intended uses in the textile industry.Problem Statement. The problem of protection of textile materials and products from microbiological destruction is complex and multifaceted and needs to be solved. Today, one of the methods of protection is to provide textile materials with biocidal properties, which not only prevents the growth of bacteria, but can also ensure a high level of tissue safety. Therefore, we are faced with the task of finding new safe biocidal products.Purpose. The research has been made to determine the level of safety of textile materials treated by biocidalsubstances with the thiosulfonate structure including Ethylthiosulfanilate, Methylthiosulfanilate and Allylthiosulfanilate.Materials and Methods. The fabrics of different chemical composition were used in the study, designed for themanufacture of overalls. New preparations of thiosulfonate structure were chosen for impregnation: ethylthiosulfanilate (ETS), methylthiosulfanilate (MTS) and allylthiosulfanilate (ATS). The presence of heavy metals and pesticides was determined by atomic absorption spectrometry with the use of a ZEENIT 650P spectrometer (Germany).Results. It has been established that the detected level of heavy metals and pesticides in the studied textile materials is insignificant and is within the regulatory requirements. It has been confirmed that the studied biocidal substances are low-toxic and environmentally friendly, because before and after treatment they did not change the hygienic parameters of tissues. A method for imparting biocidal properties to textile materials for the manufacture of overalls, in particular by impregnating textile materials with an alcoholic solution of biocidal products, has been developed. Also due to this treatment, the water absorption of materials decreases by an average of 40%.Conclusions. The treatment of textile materials with biocidal preparations of the thiosulfonate structure allowsobtaining simultaneously two desired effects for these fabrics: the appropriate bioresistance and water resistance.

The ketene dithioacetal 3 generated from 2-nitroperchlorobutadiene 1 reacted with various heterocyclic amines and aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic thiols to produce functionalized new ketene-N,S,S-acetals and S,S,S-acetals 4a-f, 5a-h as heterocyclic dithiolanes. They were separated/purified by chromatographic methods and their exact structure characterization were made clear by spectroscopic methods. These compounds synthesized could act as effective drugs for versatile activity. Evaluation of the antimicrobial effect of the obtained substances determined derivatives 4e and 5h, which have MIC=15.6 μg/mL for the test culture of Mycobacterium luteum bacteria closing to the control drug Vancomycin. The obtained compounds can be proposed as a promising synthetic objects for future molecular design to enhance the antimicrobial action. Ketene dithioacetals 3, 4a, 4b, 4e, 5g (50 mg/kg) exhibited antiseizure effect comparable with reference drug (valproic acid) on the model of pentylenetetrazole-induced convulsions after single oral administration both at 3 h and 24 h. Furthermore, tested dithioacetals possessed prolonged antidepressant activity in forced swim test (FST) considerable decreasing the duration of immobility time compared to reference drug amitriptyline. This is the first study of the investigation of anticonvulsant and antidepressant activities of ketene dithioacetals.

У рамках наших постійних досліджень щодо потенційних антигіпертензивних агентів серед похідних морфоліну та піперидину було розроблено та синтезовано 10 нових цільових сполук, що містять 1,2,4-тріазольний та морфоліновий або піперидиновий фрагменти. Проведені докінгові дослідження з метою пошуку біологічно активних речовин антигіпертензивної дії. Результати in silico досліджень свідчать, що всі синтезовані сполуки є перспективними інгібіторами ангіотензинперетворюючого ферменту і належать до 4 та 5 класів токсичності згідно класифікації OECР.

Researches with nitro compounds mainly relates to the synthesis of their derivatives used as unusual intermediate compounds. Because of their high reactivity in SNvin reactions, polyhalo-nitro-butadienes have been shown in many studies to have many properties as well as medical and pharmaceutical effects such as antitumor, bactericidal, fungicide and algicide. This study deals with the design, characterization of structures and the discovery of their antibacterial and antifungal properties based on new (E)-S- and (E)-N,S-polyhalonitrobutadiene analogues possessing piperazine, piperidine and morpholine groups. The antibacterial and antifungal activity of synthesized S- and N,S-substituted perhalo-nitro-butadienes were evaluated against to Escherichia coli B-906, Staphylococcus aureus 209-P, Mycobacterium luteum B-917 for bacteria and Candida tenuis VKM Y-70, Aspergillus niger F-1119 for fungi. Antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds was determined by using the diffusion method and serial dilution method. Compounds 2-Nitro-1,3,4,4-tetrachloro-1-hexylsulfanyl-1,3-butadiene and (E)-2,6-dimethyl-4-(3,4,4-trichloro-2-nitro-1-(octylthio)buta-1,3-dien-1-yl)morpholine with high antibacterial effect against strains E. coli and M. luteum and the derivative (E)-1-benzhydryl-4-(3,4,4-trichloro-1-(hexylthio)-2-nitrobuta-1,3-dien-1-yl)piperazine with antifungal agent against test-cultures A. niger and C. tenuis at MIC 1.9 µg/mL were identified as the most potent. Synopsis This study deals with the characterization of structures and the discovery of their antibacterial and antifungal properties based on new (E)-N,S-polyhalonitrobutadiene analogues. 1b and 7 with high antibacterial effect against strains E. coli and M. luteum. 9 with antifungal agent against test-cultures A. niger, C. tenuis at MIC 1.9 µg/mL were identified as the most potent.

The work is devoted to the search and investigation of the properties of the effective environmentally friendly phytoremediation activators. An integrated approach was used to evaluate the effect of the compositions of thiosulfonates with rhamnolipid biosurfactant on remediation plants. The biochemical and biophysical analysis of the rapeseed and ryegrass plants grown in the oil polluted soil - photosynthetic pigments, indicators of oxidative reactions and electrical impedance characteristics were determined. When applied via pre-sowing seed treatment, the thiosulfonate-biosurfactant compositions have contributed to the reduction of the indicators of oxidative reactions in plants (malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide content) and to the increase of photosynthetic pigments content. The electrical impedance characteristics of the plants were consistent with the data of the biochemical parameters. The composition of alylthiosulfanilate with rhamnolipid biocomplex was the most effective preparation. The results testify to the effectiveness of the thiosulfonate-biosurfactant compositions for the improvement of the adaptive capability of plants to adverse conditions and prospects of their application as environmentally friendly means for soil phytoremediation.

The main goal of carried out tests were the impact of physicochemical properties of surface layers on the course of processes taking place on the surface of implants made of metallic biomaterials used in the bone system. As a precursor of ZnO, diethylzinc (DEZ) has been used, which reacted with water enabling the deposition of thin films. The chamber temperature was as follows—T = 200°–300 °C. The number of cycles was 500, 1000, and 1500. In the first stage, pitting corrosion test was carried out. Corrosion resistance has been tested under conditions simulating tissue environment. Moreover, the created layers were tested using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The conducted electrochemical tests showed the beneficial effect of the ZnO layer on the substrate made of 316 LVM steel, as evidenced by the obtained parameters describing the corrosion resistance. Furthermore, tests were performed on mechanical properties (scratch test), surface morphology (SEM and AFM method), and physical properties (wettability and thickness layers) for samples with different surface treatments. The investigations of the surface morphology of the applied ZnO layer using the ALD method showed a tendency to inherit the substrate independently of the used application parameters. On the other hand, the tests of adhesion to the substrate showed that the number of cycles of the application process has a fundamental impact on the adhesion of the applied layer to the substrate. Summarizing tests have clearly shown that the number of cycles and temperature in the case of the ZnO coating is significant and positively influences the increase of electrochemical, mechanical, and physical properties of layers.

Ascaris suum is a soil-transmitted parasite causing ascariasis in pigs, largely limiting livestock production globally. Searching for new drugs affecting all stages of nematode development is necessary and widely postulated. The in vitro activity of S-methyl-(2-methoxycarbonylamino-benzoimidasole-5) thiosulfonate on A. suum developing eggs was studied. Five concentrations of the drug were used&mdash, 0.625, 1.25, 2.5, 5 and 10 mM during 24, 48 and 72 h of exposure. After drug treatment, the eggs were washed and cultured in 0.05 M HCl at 27 &deg, C for 20 days. Both the concentration and duration of the drug exposure had an inhibitory impact on the percentage of L2 larvae developed. The best effect was obtained after 72 h of incubation in 5 mM drug solution, only 1.9 &plusmn, 3.3% of the larvae developed to the L2 stage. Moreover, no SNP was detected at codon 167, which is correlated with benzimidazole resistance, in the tested samples. For the first time, it has been demonstrated that S-M-(2-MKA-BZ-5)TS seems to be a potential ovicidal anti-helminthic agent. It may lead to the elimination of parasites and reduce environmental contamination from roundworm eggs. The ovicidal effects of the drug should be additionally confirmed by further infection studies using experimental animals.

The scope of the study is to test the influence of nano-TiO2 and ETS biocide addition on the mechanical and fungicidal properties of cement mortars. It is shown that the use of doped titanium dioxide and thiosulphanate structure modifier of the antifungal agent ETS is one of the ways to obtain an effective composite antifungal additive to cement mortars. The possibility of developing such complex additives to achieve a synergistic effect in the field of fungicidal coatings has been investigated. The use of nanosized doped titanium dioxide creates a photocatalytic layer on the surface of the material, which is activated by UV or visible light, while the biocide ETS modifier works in the dark, also extending the spectrum of action to other living organisms. Modified with such an additive, cement mortar became 19% stronger than the control sample. The change of the surface microstructure, the appearance of a significant number of mesopores and macropores, which creates a larger surface, thus increasing the photocatalytic activity, was confirmed. A comparison of the growth of mold colonies on control and modified samples is shown.

Esters of thiosulfoacids demonstrate a wide range of biological activity. One of their effects is the influence on the metabolism of proteins and lipids in the body. Therefore, the purpose of our experiment was to study the impact of synthesized thiosulfonates on the total content of proteins and phospholipids, as well as their spectrum in the blood, liver, and kidney of rats. For the experiment, allyl, ethyl, and methyl esters of thiosulfoacid were used. The protein profile of rat tissues was investigated by electrophoresis, and the ratio of different fractions of phospholipids by thin-layer chromatography. Our results have shown that short-term administration of thiosulfonates in a dose of 300 mg/kg of body weight did not cause significant changes in the content of total protein and its fractions in liver tissue, whereas the effect of allyl and ethyl esters of thiosulfoacid was accompanied by an increase in the total protein and albumin in the blood plasma. The decrease in total protein was found in the kidney tissue of rats injected with allyl- and methyl thiosulfonates. The newly synthesized compounds did not lead to significant changes in the total content of phospholipids in blood plasma and tissues of rats, except for methyl thiosulfonate, the effect of which was accompanied by an increase in the total phospholipids in the liver of rats. These data may indicate an adaptive reaction of the rat’s organism. Tissue-specific features of the phospholipid spectrum were detected in rats after short-term exposure to thiosulfonates. The most significant effect on the phospholipid profile in the blood was shown for allyl- and ethyl esters of thiosulfoacid. Their action was accompanied by a decrease in the phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylinositol fractions, while phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine increased, respectively. Esters of thiosulfoacid significantly influenced the ratio of different fractions of phospholipids in the liver and kidney tissues. The phospholipid composition of the liver was more influenced by the allyl and methyl esters of thiosulfoacid, whereas for the kidney tissue a greater effect was observed for ethyl and methyl esters. Thus, the action of allyl ester of thiosulfoacid caused a decrease in the asymmetry coefficient of hepatocyte membranes, indicating an elevation of the lipid bilayer saturation and the increase of membrane microviscosity. Similar changes were found in the kidney of rats treated with allyl- and ethyl thiosulfonates.

Досліджено ацилювання аміногрупи алкі- лових S-естерів 4-амінобензентіосульфокислоти ціанурхло- ридом. Серію естерів із триазиновим фрагментом було синтезовано та охарактеризовано елементарним аналізом, 1H- ЯМР та ІЧ-спектроскопією. Досліджено рістрегулювальну ак- тивність синтезованих сполук. Визначено певний вплив струк- тури тіосульфоестерів на їх рістрегулювальну активність. The acylation of aminogroup of alkyl S-esters 4-aminobenzenthiosulfoacid with cyanurchloride was investigated. Series of esters with triazine fragment were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR and IR spectroscopy. The growth-regulative activity of the synthesized compounds was researched. Some appropriate effect of thiosulfoesters structure upon their growth-regulative activity was determined.

Background. The development of environmentally safe preparations with antimicrobial activity on microorganism-phytopathogens. Objective. Determination of antimicrobial activity of compositions alilthiosulfonate (ATS) and metylthiosulfonate (MTS) with surface-active rhamnolipid biocomplex (RBC) on phytopathogens Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Сlavibacter michiganensis . Methods. Investigation in vitro of antimicrobial activity of compositions based on thiosulfonates and rhamnolipid biocomplex on microorganism-phytopathogens A. tumefaciens and C. michiganensis in accordance with the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidic concentrations of developed compositions. Studies of biosurfactant effect on permeability of cell membraines. Results. It is shown that the composition of methyl- and alilthiosulfanilates with RBC are more activе and have lower values of minimum inhibitory and bactericidic concentrations than ATS and MTS alone – on average by 50 %. Conclusions. The results showed the prospects of rhamnolipid-biosurfactants use for creation of highly effective compositions with biocides for plant protection .

This article is devoted to the study of the influence of new promising thiosulfonate biocidal preparations, in particular allylthiosulfonate (ATS), ethylthiosulfonate (ETS) and methylthiosulfonate (MTS) on the physical and mechanical properties of textile materials after sun exposure. The aim of the work was to study the influence of the new low-toxic biocidal preparations on the light-fastness of colorants and the substrate of cotton-polyester multicomponent fabrics for special clothing, and to investigate the changes in physical-mechanical properties that occur during sun exposure. In the course of the study, a standard method was used in order to test the light-fastness of tissues after 100, 200 and 300 h of their insolation. The assessment was carried out by changing the indicators of their lightness, saturation, color tone and general color contrast, as well as the breaking load after insolation. The samples were represented by cotton-polyester clothing fabrics intended for the production of overalls. It has been established that cotton fabrics are more susceptible to prolonged sun exposure than cotton-polyester and polyester-cotton. Besides, preparations of ETS, MTS and ATS, in addition to protecting the aging of paints, significantly inhibited the aging and fibrous warp of the tissues studied. Preparations of ETS, MTS and ATS that were selected by us for antimicrobial treatment of cotton-polyester cloth can be considered not only as effective biocides, but also as light stabilizing preparations. The ETS, MTS and ATS preparations are convenient and safe, do not have a negative influence on the change of mechanical, physical and aesthetic properties of textile cotton and polyester-cotton clothing materials.

Derivatives of 2(5 H)-furanone (γ-crotonolactone) are important intermediate synthetic products with a wide range of biological effects that have become widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, medicine, and veterinary medicine, in particular in the prevention and treatment of fish diseases. However, the environmental issue of obtaining these compounds while reducing the negative impact on the surrounding environment remains relevant. This article describes for the first time a method of γ-crotonolactone synthesis that is based on the concept of green chemistry. Synthesis is carried out under mild conditions using nontoxic reagents by furfural oxidation. For the first time, a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and acetic acid was used for the oxidation of furfural in a ratio of 1:0.05. A mixture of organic acids (succinic, maleic, fumaric, formic, and cinnamic acids), obtained as a byproduct in the synthesis of γ-crotonolactone, can be used as a highly effective, ecofriendly organic fertilizer or in a preparation with a stimulating effect.

According to the current understanding, the hyperactivation of platelets may lead to increased intravascular coagulation and thrombosis. Today a relevant issue is the search for new anti-thrombotic agents that are able to modulate the activity of platelet receptors, thus, influence the processes of activation and aggregation of platelets. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of newly synthesized thiosulfonate derivatives on platelet aggregation. The activity of the compounds was tested in vitro using platelet-rich plasma. As a result of the screening test, structural formulas of four agents with high antiaggregative activity were established. These compounds inhibited ADP- and collagen-induced platelet aggregation in a dose-dependent manner. Two of these compounds were shown to be more effective inhibitors of aggregation induced by ADP (IC50 ~ 8-10 µM), as well as collagen (IC50 ~ 1.5-2.0 µM).

Мetalcarbene compounds of a series of [1,2,4] and [1,2,3]triazoles have been synthesized to study their antimicrobial activity. Monocarbene complexes of palladium (9a) and copper(I) (9b,12,15), biscarbene complexes of palladium (4a) and copper(I) (4b,14), a carbenoid complex of cobalt (5) have been synthesized by the direct interaction of stable carbenes with transition metal salts or by analogous in situ reactions. The intermediate sterically hindered carbenes – [1,2,4]triazol-5-ylidenes 3a-c have been isolated in the individual state. Being intermediate in the synthesis of mesoionic complexes 9a,b 1-adamantyl-4-phenyl-[1,2,3]triazole has been synthesized by [3+2]-cycloaddition of 1-adamantylazide to phenylacetylene in the presence of the biscarbene complex of copper(I) iodide 14. Characteristic signals of the carbenoid carbon atoms are detected in the 13С NMR spectra of complexes in the range of 165-203 ppm. A high antimicrobial activity has been found for complexes 5.12; for compound 12 it corresponds to the minimal bacteriostatic concentration (MBsC) 15.6 mkG/mL, the minimal bactericidal concentration (MBcC) 31.2 mkG/mL (М. luteum), and MBsC 31.2 mkG/mL, MBcC 62.5 mkG/mL (S. aureus). The highest activity in the series studied is observed for the carbenoid complex of cobalt (5) on the test-culture of M. luteum (MBsC 15.6 mkG/mL and MBcC 31.2 mkG/mL), and on the test-culture of C. tenuis (the minimal fungistatic concentration is 7.8 mkG/mL and the minimal fungicidal concentration is 31.2 mkG/mL).

Precarbene and metalcarbene compounds of a series of imidazole have been synthesized to study their antimicrobial activity. Calix[4]arene imidazolium salts 3,4a,b have been obtained from the corresponding chloromethyl derivatives of calix[4]arenes and N-substituted imidazoles in dimethylformamide or tetrahydrofuran, and salt 5 – from p-xylylenediimidazoles and 1-bromoadamantane in o-dichlorobenzene. Monocarbene complexes of palladium 8a-c, copper(I) 8d and biscarbene complexes of nickel 9a and cobalt 9b have been synthesized by the direct interaction of stable carbenes with transition metal salts or by the analogous reactions in situ in tetrahydrofuran. The NMR spectra data of the compounds synthesized are given. The most characteristic signals of the carbenoid carbon atoms are detected in the 13С NMR spectra of complexes 8a-d, 9a in the range of 165-178 ppm. A high antimicrobial activity has been found for carbenoid salts 4a,b, 5 on the test-culture of M. Luteum. It corresponds to the minimal bacteriostatic concentration (MBsC) of 15.6 mkg/mL and the minimal bactericidal concentration (MBcC) of 62.5 mkg/mL for compound 2. The higher activity has been found for carbene complexes of nickel 9a and cobalt 9b on the test-culture of M. luteum (MBsC is 7.8 mkg/mL and MBcC is 15.6 mkg/mL), and the highest 9b on the test-cultures of M. luteum and C. tenuis (the minimal fungistatic concentration is 1.9 mkg/mL and the minimal fungicidal concentration is 3.9 mkg/mL).

The antimicrobial composition based on the substance of thiosulfonate structure (ETS) and surfactants of microbial origin (biosurfactants)in the form of stable suspensions and ointments were developed and investigated for their effectiveness. The application of biosurfactants in the preparation enhances the antifungal and antibacterial activity of ETS and reduces its active concentration.The economic calculations have shown that the developed antimicrobial composition has a low cost and is competitive compared with antifungal agents present in the pharmaceutical market. Розроблено антимікробну композицію на основі субстанції тіосульфонатної структури (ЕТС) і поверхнево-активних речовин мікробного походження (біоПАР) у формі стабільних суспензій і мазі та досліджено її ефективність. Застосування біоПАР у препараті сприяє підвищенню протигрибкової та антибактеріальної активності ЕТС та дає можливість зменшити його діючу концентрацію. Економічні розрахунки засвідчили, що розроблена антимікробна композиція має низьку собівартість та є конкурентоспроможною у порівнянні з протигрибковими препаратами, представленими на фармацевтичному ринку.

This review covers the main agents used for in situ and ex situ chemical oxidation of organic contaminants particularly oil products, in soil and water environments. Among them there are hydrogen peroxide, permanganate salts, ozone and sodium persulfate. The fields of application, as well as benefits and disadvantages of the mentioned agents use were described. Цей огляд присвячений основним реагентам, що використовуються у хімічному окисненні органічних забрудників in citu (безпосередньо на об'єкті) та ex situ (локалізовано), у першу чергу нафтопродуктів, у грунті ті водних ресурсах. Серед них - пероксид водню, перманганати, озон і персульфат натрію. Розглянуто області застосування, а також переваги і недоліки використання зазначених реагентів.

Thanks to the efforts of many scientific groups in the last decade, the spectrum of pharmacological activity of 4-thiazolones has been significantly broadened. Amongst these are compounds with hypoglycemic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiviral, and antitubercular activity [1]. This has served as the basis for the synthesis and study of the named heterocycles modified by novel pharmacophoric groups with the aim of their practical use in pharmacy, medicine, agriculture, etc. One of the classical routes most often and efficiently used for the preparation of a thiazolidone ring is a [2+3] cyclocondensation reaction [2]. The reaction of the N-aryl-N-thiocarbamoyl--alanines 1a-e [3] with monochloroacetic acid or maleic anhydride was carried out in acetic acid in the presence of sodium acetate to give the novel 4-thiazolone derivatives of N-aryl--alanines 2a-f.

International audience; Thiosulfonate derivatives based on quinones were synthesized for studying "structure-activity relationship" compounds with an acylated and a free amino-group. Anti-platelet activity of the synthesized compounds was determined and the influence of substituents on the activity of the derivatives was assessed.

The optimisation of reaction conditions for obtaining thiosulfonate derivatives was performed. S,N-binucleophiles (sodium salts of 4-amino- and 4-acetylaminobenzenethiosulfonic acids) were used. The parameters of the reaction for the synthesis of derivatives by a thiosulfonate fragment were determined. Thiosulfonate derivatives based on a number of quinones and quinoxalines were synthesized. Novel 4-thiazolone derivatives of N-aryl-β-alanines are synthesized by reaction of (I) with monochloroacetic acid or maleic anhydride.

Derivatives of 5,8-quinolinequinone have stimulated considerable interest as biologically active compounds [1], but no data are available on synthesis of its derivatives containing a thiosulfonate moiety. Continuing our research on thiosulfonic acid esters in the heterocyclic series [2, 3], we have studied the reaction of thiosulfonic acid salts with 6,7-dichloroquinoline-5,8-quinone. In acetone at low temperature (from -18 to -10°C), the chlorine atoms are easily substituted by a thiosulfonate moiety with formation of two monosubstitution products 3a,b and 4a,b with a predominant amount of 3a,b, and also compound 5, the amount of which depends on the reaction conditions (temperature, solvent, and rate at which the salt 2a,b is added). The structure of the products 3a,b and 4a,b obtained has been confirmed by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and an alternate synthesis for verifying identity.

S-Esters of 8-quinolinethiosulfonic acid were synthesized and tested for antimicrobial activity.
