After presenting the geographical framework of this region on the south-eastern edge of the Massif Central which saw the birth of volcanology and still fuels debates on the contemporaneity of man and extinct volcanoes, we recall the general context and chronology of recent volcanic activity in the Velay-Vivarais, known as the “Young Volcanoes of Ardèche”. We insist on the contra- dictory results provided by the different dating methods used in recent decades (14C, OSL, TL, K/Ar and 40Ar/39Ar) and provide new results about three localities: the Grand Suc de Breysse (Présailles, Haute-Loire), the Suc de Bauzon whose flow dammed the Palaeo-Loire at Rieutord (Usclades-et-Rieutord, Ardèche) and the Issarlès maar (Le Lac d’Issarlès, Ardèche) with lacustrine sedi- mentary archives preserved below a 108.5 m waterbody. The eruption of the Grand Suc de Breysse began with a phreatomagmatic phase during MIS 5 (OSL, TL, K/Ar). The filling of the Rieutord volcanic dam paleo-lake fossilises a basaltic flow dated at 85 ± 4 ka (K/Ar) and continues during MIS 3: in its central part, the upper part of the preserved deposit is dated between 41.7 and 18.2 ka (14C and OSL); in its upstream part, deltaic deposits of the paleo-Loire are dated between 52 ± 2 and 35 ± 3 ka (OSL). The eruption of the Issarlès maar is dated at 54 ± 8 ka (TL), confirming that it belongs to a recent phase of the volcanism of the “Young Volcanoes of Ardèche”. At the moment, no Palaeolithic vestiges are directly associated with these three volcano-sedimentary complexes. Cet article est une contribution à l’étude chronostratigraphique du volcanisme récent du Bas Vivarais (les « Jeunes volcans d’Ardèche ») et des dépôts qui s’y trouvent associés. Après avoir présenté le cadre géographique de cette région de la bordure sud-est du Massif central (Velay-Vivarais) qui vit naître la volcanologie et a alimenté jusqu’à aujourd’hui les débats sur la contemporanéité de l’homme et des volcans éteints, le contexte général et la chronologie de l’activité volcanique récente sont rappelés. On insiste sur les résultats contradictoires des différentes méthodes de datation utilisées au cours des dernières décennies (14C, OSL, TL, K/Ar et 40Ar/39Ar). Après la présentation des méthodes, les résultats inédits obtenus sur trois systèmes volcaniques sont exposés et discutés : le Grand Suc de Breysse (Présailles, Haute-Loire), le Suc de Bauzon et sa coulée ayant barré la paléo-Loire à Rieutord (Usclades-et- Rieutord, Ardèche), et le maar d’Issarlès (Le Lac d’Issarlès, Ardèche) et ses archives sédimentaires lacustres préservées par 108,5 m de fond. L’éruption du Grand Suc de Breysse débute par une phase phréatomagmatique au cours du MIS 5 (OSL, TL, K/Ar). Le remplissage du paléo-lac de barrage volcanique de Rieutord fossilise une coulée basaltique datée de 85 ± 4 ka (K/Ar). À l’amont du système, des dépôts deltaïques sont datés entre 52 ± 2 et 35 ± 3 ka (OSL) ; dans la zone de cœur de lac, les dépôts préservés, contemporains du MIS 3, se mettent en place entre 41,7 et 18,2 ka (14C et OSL). L’éruption du maar d’Issarlès est datée à 54 ± 8 ka (TL), confirmant son appartenance à une phase récente du volcanisme des « Jeunes volcans d’Ardèche ». On note pour le moment l’absence d’indice archéologique paléolithique directement associé à ces trois systèmes volcano-sédimentaires.

La Formation de Waziers est constituée d’un dépôt alluvial limoneux surmonté de tuf calcaire et de tourbe. Elle est conservée dans un petit paléo-chenal de la rivière Scarpe-Scarbus, reconnu sur plusieurs centaines de mètres de long à l’entrée de la plaine de la Scarpe et daté de la fin du Saalien (SIM 6) et de l’Eemien (SIM 5e). La Formation de Waziers a été préservée à la faveur d’une défluviation ultérieure à son dépôt puis de son scellement par des dépôts fluvio-éoliens de la fin du Pléniglaciaire weichselien (SIM 2). La synthèse de l’ensemble des données et études (lithologie, paléontologie, géochronologie, reconstitution des paléotem- pératures) fournit une image cohérente de l’évolution de la zone depuis la fin du Saalien vers 130 000 ans environ jusqu’à la fin du Pléniglaciaire weichselien. À la base, les alluvions sablo-graveleuses (témoignant d’écoulements dynamiques) puis limoneuses (Membre 1) se déposent dans le fond de vallée à la fin du glaciaire saalien dans un contexte d’amorce de reconquête forestière. Un plan d’eau se développe ensuite, permettant le dépôt d’une craie lacustre dans un marais à Characées puis d’une tourbière (Membre 2, env. 1,5 m d’épaisseur) dans un contexte forestier. Un cours d’eau chenalisé circule encore dans la tourbière, au moins par intermittence, érodant et déposant localement des alluvions limoneuses. La partie inférieure du Membre 2 enregistre la transition du glaciaire Saalien (fin SIM 6) à l’Interglaciaire eemien (début SIM 5e) dans un contexte de sédimentation continue de plus en plus organique. La partie supérieure du Membre 2 enregistre l’optimum climatique eemien dans un faciès de tourbe typique, puis l’amorce d’une dégradation climatique. Au toit du Membre 2 (et celui de la Formation) est observée la limite d’une érosion majeure qui n’a pas permis l’enregistrement de la fin de l’Interglaciaire eemien. À la base du Membre 3 (env. 3 m d’épaisseur), des écoule- ments concentrés dans des ravines profondes sur sol gelé démantèlent et remanient les dépôts sous-jacents. Ensuite, des écoulements (attribués au Pléniglaciaire weichselien) déposent une nappe de graviers de craie sur l’ensemble du site dans une bande active plus large (probable tressage). La majeure partie du Membre 3 est constituée de dépôts limono-sableux fluvio-éoliens et d’un mince dépôt loessique terminal. La qualité de l’enregistrement sédimentaire de la formation de Waziers, avec notamment un dépôt continu au moment de la transition climatique du Saalien à l’Eemien, et l’abondance des éléments paléontologiques (bois et macrorestes végétaux, macro et méso-faune, microfaune, avifaune, malacofaune…) dans les dépôts eemiens font de celle-ci un témoin exceptionnel pour les recons- titutions paléoenvironnementales et paléoclimatiques de cette période. La présence de niveaux témoignant d’occupations humaines récurrentes dans les Membres 1 et 2 (éclats isolés, amas de débitage, traces d’actions anthropiques sur faune) font de ce site et de cette séquence une référence pour la compréhension des dynamiques de peuplement humain entre le SIM 6 (Saalien) et le SIM 5e (Eemien) dans le Nord de la France et plus largement dans le Nord-Ouest de l’Europe. The Waziers Formation consists of a silty alluvial deposit topped by calcareous tuff and peat. It is preserved in a small palaeo- channel of the Scarpe-Scarbus river, recognised over several hundred metres long at the edge/entrance of the Scarpe river plain and dated to the end of the Saalian (SIM 6) and the Eemian (SIM 5e). The Waziers Formation was preserved by a later defluviation and the sealing by fluvio-aeolian deposits of the late Weichselian Pleniglacial (SIM 2). The synthesis of all the data and studies (lithology, palaeontology, geochronology, reconstruction of palaeotemperatures) provides a coherent picture of the evolution of the area since the end of the Saalian around 130,000 years ago to the end of the Weichselian Pleniglacial. At the base, sandy-gravelly (indicating dynamic flows) and then silty alluvium (Member 1) was deposited in the valley bottom at the end of the Saalian glacial period in a context of incipient forest reconquest. A water body then develops, allowing the sedimentation of a lacustrine chalk deposited in a Characeae marsh, followed by a peat bog (Member 2, ca. 1.5 m thick) in a forest context. A channelled stream still flows through the bog, at least intermittently, locally eroding and depositing silty alluvium. The lower part of Member 2 records the transition from the Saalian glacial (end of MIS 6) to the Eemian interglacial (beginning of MIS 5) in a context of continuous sedimentation with increasing organic content. The upper part of Member 2 records the Eemian climatic optimum in a typical peat facies, followed by the onset of climatic degradation. At the top of Member 2 (and that of the Formation) is the limit of a major erosion that did not allow the recording of the end of the Eemian interglacial. At the base of Member 3 (ca. 3 m thick) flows concentrated in deep gullies on frozen ground dismantle and rework the underlying deposits. Subsequently, flows (attributed to the Weichselian Pleniglacial) deposit a sheet of chalk gravels over the whole site in a wider active band (likely braiding). Most of Member 3 consists of fluvio-aeolian silty-sandy deposits and a thin terminal loessic deposit. The quality of the sedimentary record, with in particular continuous depo- sition at the time of the climatic transition from the Saalien to the Eemian, and the abundance of palaeontological elements (wood and plant macro-remains, macro- and meso-fauna, microfauna, avifauna, malacofauna...) in the Eemian deposits ensure the Waziers Formation is an exceptional testimony for the palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic reconstructions. The presence of levels testying to recurrent human occupations in Members 1 and 2 (with isolated flakes, heaps of debitage, traces of anthropic actions on fauna) make this site and sequence a reference for the understanding of the human settlement dynamics from the MIS 6 (Saalian) to the MIS 5e (Eemian) in Northern France but also broadly in North-Western Europe.

Le gisement paléolithique moyen de Waziers découvert en 2013 lors d’un diagnostic archéologique a rapidement été attribué à l’Eemien (SIM 5e) devenant ainsi un des rares témoins continentaux de cet interglaciaire dans le nord de l’Europe. Cet article présente les investigations géophysiques menées de 2013 à 2015 pour aider à la reconstitution du contexte géomorphologique de site de Waziers. Deux méthodes géophysiques ont été utilisées afin de mettre en évidence la distribution spatiale des propriétés électriques des sédiments à la fois en plan sur l’ensemble du site (EM31) et en coupe le long de deux profils (tomographie de résistivité électrique). Les données obtenues ont permis de mettre en évidence la présence d’un paléochenal orienté SW-NE dont le remplissage sédimentaire est constitué de matériaux de résistivité moyenne qui s’inscrivent dans des sédiments de plus faible résistivité. Discovered in 2013 during an archaeological evaluation, the Palaeolithic site of Waziers has rapidly been chronologically correlated to the Eemian (MIS 5e), becoming thus one of the rare continental records of this interglacial period in northern Europe. This work presents the results from the geophysical surveys performed from 2013 to 2015 to help reconstruct the geomorphological context of the site. The spatial distribution of the electrical properties of the sediment has been determined by two geophysical methods, carried out over the whole area (EM31) and in cross-sections along two profiles (electrical resistivity tomography). The results led to the identification a SW-NE oriented palaeochannel whose sedimentary infill is made of materials with medium resistivity embedded in sediment showing lower resistivity.

Le 3 septembre 2017 alors que le cyclone Irma s’approche de Saint-Martin, la rentrée scolaire est reportée sine die pour les 8 000 élèves inscrits dans les écoles publiques et les 900 personnels de l’Éducation Nationale. Le cyclone ayant endommagé une majorité de bâtiments et d’infrastructures (dont les établissements scolaires) certains élèves de l’île n’ont pas été scolarisés pendant deux mois. Nous proposons dans ce travail de considérer les récits des adolescents en tant que données susceptibles d’alimenter les retours d’expérience post-catastrophe. Notre objectif est de comprendre le vécu des adolescents et de caractériser les actions qu’ils ont menées en période post-crise. Si leur rôle est reconnu, leurs actions et les contextes de mise en œuvre méritent alors d’être précisés. On 3 September 2017, as cyclone Irma approaches Saint-Martin, the rectorate postponed sine die the school start for 8 000 students registered in public schools and 900 national education staff. As the cyclone damaged a majority of buildings and infrastructure (including schools), some of the island's pupils did not attend school for two months. In this work, we propose to consider the stories of adolescents as data likely to feed the post-disaster feedback. Our goal is to understand the experiences of adolescents and to characterize the actions they carried out in the post-crisis period. If their role is recognized, then their actions and implementation contexts need to be clarified.

Le PCR « Vallée de l’Eure : une rivière, des territoires » s’intéresse au bassin versant de l’Eure, sous bassin du Bassin parisien, encore très peu étudié sur le plan archéologique et historique. Il se place dans la continuité des grands programmes lancés à partir des années 1990 sur l’étude des dynamiques de peuplement et de l’organisation spatiale des territoires, qui ne cessent de se multiplier pour développer des problématiques autour du rôle des sociétés dans les phénomènes de transmission et de changement des formes spatiales, y intégrant aussi bien des études sur la morphologie des paysages que sur la formation des groupes culturels, jusqu’à la reconstitution de dynamiques socio-environnementales qu’engendrent au court du temps les interactions entre l’homme et son milieu, entre les sous-systèmes culturel et naturel.Le projet résulte d’une réflexion sur les réelles capacités documentaires d’un corpus donné en matière de reconstitution évolutive des paysages aussi bien naturels qu’anthropiques et sur les moyens à mettre en œuvre en termes d’efficacité et de pertinence pour pallier la discontinuité et le fractionnement de la donnée toutes périodes et disciplines confondues. En s’inscrivant volontairement dans un contexte de faible documentation archéologique, le projet ouvre sur une approche exploratoire et prospective, aussi bien sur le plan scientifique que technologique.Au-delà de l’enrichissement du corpus somme toute maigre des gisements archéologiques du secteur, il vise à restituer les modalités de la construction des territoires et des patrimoines naturels, culturels et sociaux sur le temps long en privilégiant le dialogue transchronologique et l’interdisciplinarité. Il met également en place une plateforme Web-SIG originale dont l’objectif est non seulement de centraliser la collecte des données pluridisciplinaires de manière à pouvoir les croiser, mais aussi, en amont comme en aval, à aider à la réflexion et à la décision sur le terrainen matière de connaissance, de conservation et a fortiori d’aménagement et de gestion des risques de notre environnement historique et naturel, passé, actuel et futur.

International audience; In northern Europe, only few Eemian sedimentary sequences showing the Neanderthal's presence are attested. Therefore, the discovery at Waziers, in the Scarpe River valley, of a lot of flint artefacts within an alluvial sequence is remarkable.The thick alluvial sequence presents from the base to the top: 1) coarse fluvial deposits (lithological unit III); 2) organic silts (lithological unit IV); 3) peaty sediment (lithological unit V) with two archaeological levels (flint artefacts); 4) sand and loess sequence (lithological units VI and VII). The organic silts and peat units IV and V are correlated to the Eemian on the basis of a U/Th date on oogons of Characeae (minimum age: 103 +3.5/-3.4 ka), and the occurrence of the typical Last Glacial (Weichselian) loess sequence overlying fluvial organic deposits.The aim of the poster is to present the main results from the palynological analysis. The pollen record, from a 250 cm sedimentary sequence covering organic silts and peat units, documents palaeoecological changes in northern France from the MIS 6/5 transition to the end of the Eemian. Based on pollen data, three palaeoecological phases have been identified. The first phase corresponds to an open dry grassland driven by a cold climate. The second phase starts with an important expansion of trees indicative of a Betula-Pinus boreal forest development. The third phase is characterized by a warm temperate forest with the successive development of Ulmus, deciduous Quercus, Corylus and finally Carpinus betulus. Palynological data also show changes in the local vegetation, such as aquatic and wetland communities. A nutrient-poor oligotrophic environment with a slow water flow allows aquatic plants to develop. Following the water flow stop, the peat bog is set up then evolves towards an acid peat bog (rise of Sphagnum). Finally, the end of the pollen record shows the colonization by a dominant Alnus swamp forest.

International audience; Le Gölcük, situé au sud de la ville d'Isparta (Turquie), est un volcan composite, construit en trois phases durant le Pléistocène (Alici et al., 1998 ; Platevoet et al., 2008 ; Elitok et al., 2010). Les études réalisées par Platevoet et al. (2008) et Schmitt et al. (2014) se sont intéressées en partie à la datation de deux dômes mis en place au sein de la caldeira du Gölcük. Les âges K-Ar (Platevoet et al., 2008) de ces dômes trachytiques (Küçükçesme Tepe : 52 ± 2 ka et Pilav Tepe : 24 ± 2 ka) sont significativement plus vieux que les âges (U-Th)/He sur zircons obtenus par Schmitt et al. (2014) étant respectivement de 14,1 ± 0,5 et de 12,9 ± 0,4 ka. Nous avons testé l'hypothèse proposée par Schmitt et al. (2014) qui est celle d'un excès d' 40 Ar * faussant les âges K-Ar en datant ces mêmes trachytes par la méthode 40 Ar/ 39 Ar. Nos âges 40 Ar/ 39 Ar sur mésostase confirment les âges (U-TH)/He sur zircons et datent l'activité magmatique la plus récente du Gölcük à 13,4 ± 0,3 ka. Nous proposons que l'erreur sur les âges K-Ar soit liée à un excès d'argon probablement porté par des clinopyroxènes associés à la mésostase. ABSTRACT QUESTIONING THE ACCURACY OF K-AR AGES: EXAMPLE OF THE DATING OF TWO TRACHYTIC DOMES FROM THE GÖLCÜK (TURKEY) The Gölcük volcano, located south to the city of Isparta (Turkey), built-up in three stages during the Pleistocene (Alici et al., 1998; Platevoet et al., 2008; Elitok et al., 2010). A reliable and accurate dating of the most recent volcanic stage is crucial to assess the potential hazards for the infrastructures and the populations. In this context, Platevoet et al. (2008) and Schmitt et al. (2014) applied respectively the K-Ar and the (U-Th)/He methods to date the youngest volcanic stage of the Gölcük and obtained contrasted results. Based on the K-Ar dating of two trachytic domes (Kücükcesme Tepe et Pilav Tepe), the post-caldera stage is dated between 52 ± 2 ka and 24 ± 2 ka by Platevoet et al. (2008). When the (U-Th)/He method is applied on zircons from the same trachytic domes, Schmitt et al. (2014) date the post-caldera stage around 14.1 ± 0.5-12.9 ± 0.4 ka. Schmitt et al. (2014) proposed that the K-Ar ages were erroneously too old, probably because of excess 40 Ar*. We have tested this hypothesis by dating groundmass splits of these trachytes using the 40 Ar/ 39 Ar method. Our 40 Ar/ 39 Ar ages reproduce the (U-Th)/He ages on zircons and date the youngest volcanic stage of the Gölcük at 13.4 ± 0.3 ka. Confirming the hypothesis of Schmitt et al. (2014), we propose that the error on the K-Ar ages is related to excess argon probably trapped in small fragments of clinopyroxene attached to the groundmass.

International audience; The present study aims to provide new insights of fluvial metamorphosis associated with postglacial environmental changes. Investigations were conducted on different points upstream to downstream of the Loire catchment (Loire itself, Dore river and Cher river). This work allows the role of catchment size to be discussed regarding sensitivity of fluvial environments to climate changes. Topography of the alluvial plain was analyzed using LiDAR DEM. Such datasets show topographic variations highlighting postglacial fluvial patterns and their relative chronology. Boreholes and electrical imaging survey help to estimate the geometry of former channels. Cores collected in palaeochannels provide organic materials suitable for radiocarbon dating and multiproxy analyses. In Dore valley, incision of Pleniglacial deposits and the building of the Holocene floodplain occur after 23136-23958 Cal. BP., the youngest date obtained from organic filling sampled in palaeochannels. The oldest dates obtained in the Holocene deposits take place around 8000 Cal. BP. On Burgundian Loire, Pleniglacial deposits are incised around 17 000 Cal. B.P. The fluvial pattern is then characterized by a braided system evolving to a meandering pattern probably active until 14 0000 Cal. B.P., when a new incision occurs and another braided system reworks previous deposits until 12 000 Cal. B.P. In the Cher river valley, some inherited landforms correspond to wide and straight palaeochannels interpreted as transitional multichannel system following a braided fluvial pattern. They might be associated with an incision of the Pleniglacial floodplain and their cutoff are dated from 15 000 to 13 500 Cal. BP. The beginning of the Lateglacial period is characterized by a significant incision occurring at different times. If this phenomenon is not unknown within postglacial alluvial deposits, such results can lead to a better knowledge of diversity and complexity of fluvial responses observed during the Lateglacial period on key positions of a fluvial network.

In the 1990s, Neanderthal's presence east of the Rhine during the Eemian has been evidences by new investigations focusing on the chronology of Palaeolithic occupations both in Central and Middle Europe. More recently, in the area located to the west of the Rhine, the discovery of the site of Caours in the Somme basin in the early 2000s allowed, for the first time, to show that Neanderthal settled northern France during the Eemian optimum (MIS 5e).What’s up on the Western front since that discovery?In 2013, an exceptional site allocated to the Eemian interglacial has been evidenced at Waziers in the Scarpe River valley, a tributary of the Escaut (Scheldt), during rescue archaeological test-pits. The alluvial sequence, investigated in the frame of a multidisciplinary team, is composed by a thick alluvial sequence (~ 2.5m) composed by organic silts and peat layers deposited in a large palaeo-meander of the Scarpe River. The whole is preserved by a loess sequence (± 3m). The correlation of the base of the sequence (silt and peats) with the Eemian is based on: i) the occurrence of mammals and molluscs assemblages typical for Pleistocene interglacials, ii) a first U/Th (TIMS) date on oogons of Characeae (minimum age: 103 +3.5/-3.4 ka), and iii) the occurrence of a typical Last Glacial (Weichselian) loess sequence overlying fluvial organic deposits.Owing to the rarity of such sequences and of the importance of the flint artefacts discovered within the peat layers for archaeology, a multidisciplinary research program has been launched at Waziers in 2014. The aim of this poster is to present the main results from these new investigations and to highlight the unique potential of this site for both the reconstruction of Northern France Eemian palaeoenvironments and Middle Palaeolithic occupation. In the near future, the on-going investigations lead on the Waziers site will undoubtedly produce a main contribution to the knowledge of Neanderthal groups settlement dynamics throughout North-western Europe Great plains., Dans les années 1990, les travaux de révision du cadre chronologique des occupations corrélées préalablement au SIM 5 de la chronologie marine ou même à un stade antérieur en Europe centrale et moyenne permirent définitivement d’asseoir la présence de Néandertaliens durant l’Eemien à l’Est du Rhin. Pour la partie Ouest du Rhin, il fallut attendre la (re)découverte du gisement de Caours dans la Somme au début des années 2000 pour pouvoir affirmer que l’homme de Néandertal parcourait les plaines septentrionales de la France à cette période. Quoi de nouveau depuis ?Ni plus ni moins que la découverte en 2013 d’un gisement exceptionnel situé dans la vallée de la Scarpe, un affluent de l’Escault (Scheldt). La séquence stratigraphique mise au jour lors d’un diagnostic d’archéologie préventive livra une série de dépôts d’alluvions organiques limoneux puis tourbeux surmontés de dépôts loessiques. L’attribution à l’Eemien de la base de la séquence (limons et tourbes) fut rapidement confirmée par la présence d’espèces de mammifères et de mollusques uniquement connues durant le Pléistocène en période interglaciaire, d’une date U/Th sur oogones de characées donnant un âge minimum de 103 +3.5/-3.4 ka, et de loess de couverture weichséliens surmontant la séquence fluviatile.Malgré la rareté de tels dépôts il était impossible de monter une opération d'archéologie préventive sur la zone et l'étude du site a été réalisée dans le cadre d'un projet de recherche programmée lancé en 2014. Ce poster montrera les principaux résultats obtenus et mettra en évidence la richesse paléoenvironnementale et le potentiel archéologique de ce gisement. Il exposera l'importance des apports que laissent entrevoir les premiers résultats d’analyses obtenus sur le gisement de Waziers à nos connaissances du paysage Eemien et des dynamiques de peuplement des groupes Néandertaliens des plaines et des vallées du Nord-Ouest de l’Europe.

International audience; In the current context of global change, the knowledge of floodplain formation in response to past climate and societal changes is a solution for a better perception of the current and future dynamics. This research deals with floodplains formation, particularly with fluvial landforms, processes and drivers evolution on the long-term, during the Holocene. The case study is the Lower Loire River floodplain, a major hydrosystem of mid latitudes Western Europe, where current flood risks issues are significant and where the river embankment began during the Middle Ages [Research program: AGES (Ancient Geomorphological Evolutions)]. Fluvial landforms and sedimentary records studied are archived in this wide floodplain (section width 10Km, length 70Km). Hydrosedimentary flows come from a watershed (> 100 000Km2) extending partly on Hercynian massifs (Massif Central and Massif Armoricain) and a meso-cenozoic sedimentary basin (Bassin de Paris). Past fluvial dynamics, processes and temporalities of floodplain formation were reconstructed through an integrated approach [geomatics (LiDAR DEM), morphostratigraphy (core-drillings), sedimentology, geophysics (resistivity methods), geochronology and archaeology]. Within the Lower Loire River floodplain, Holocene fluvial landforms and alluvial deposits are nested in Weichselian formations and vertically stacked. During the last 10 millenniums, many Weichselian inheritances and the relatively low specific stream power of the river explain the low lateral mobility of the active channel. The Loire River built a significant natural levee and induced a vertical aggradation of the distal plain. Fluvial dynamics and sedimentary environments of the Lower Loire River evolved according to multi-millennium and multi-centennial scales. Responses of the river to external factors (climate, anthropogenic impacts, eustatism) and autocyclic evolution are discussed. Several episodes of the floodplain formation are characterized and are correlated with Holocene drivers evolution. Current fluvial dynamics inherit this floodplain formation on the long-term.
