Abstract

The ITER equatorial visible and infrared Wide Angle Viewing System (WAVS) will play a major role in the protection of plasma facing components by providing surface temperature measurements of these components. It will also image the plasma emission in the visible range. The WAVS is composed of 15 lines of sight located in four Equatorial Ports (EPs) 3, 9, 12, and 17. Its development is being carried out by the Consortium constituted by CEA, CIEMAT, INTA, and Bertin Technologies, within grant contracts financed by F4E. In the EP12, the in-vessel and ex-vessel components of the WAVS are at their final design phase. This article presents an overview of the opto-mechanical design of the WAVS in the EP12 presented at the final design review. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

FLARE (First Light And Reionization Explorer) is a space mission that will be submitted to ESA (M5 call). Its primary goal (about 80% of lifetime) is to identify and study galaxies that dwell in the universe before the end of the reionization up to about z = 15, a redshift that might not be statistically reachable for JWST, Euclid and WFIRST. A secondary objective (about 20% of lifetime) is to survey star formation in the Milky Way. The strategy selected for FLARE optimizes the science return: imaging and spectroscopic integral-field observations will be carried out simultaneously on two parallel focal planes and over very wide instantaneous fields of view. FLARE will feature an instantaneous field of view of about 0.2 deg$^2$ with 0.2-arcsec pixels and an instantaneous integral-field spectroscopic field of view of about 1 arcmin$^2$ with R = 500 - 1000 and an angular resolution of about 0.4 arcsec. To detect first-light galaxies, the imaging and spectroscopic survey (parallel observations over about 6 years) will reach m$_{AB}$ = 28 and f$_{\lambda}$ = 10$^{-18}$ erg/cm$^2$/S. FLARE will help addressing two of ESA's Cosmic Vision themes: a) "How did the universe originate and what is it made of?" and b) "What are the conditions for planet formation and the emergence of life?" and more specifically, "From gas and dust to stars and planets". FLARE will provide to the ESA community a leading position to statistically study the early universe after JWST's deep but pin-hole surveys. Abstract

We present THERMAP, a mid-infrared (8-16 {\mu}m) spectro-imager for space missions to small bodies in the inner solar system, developed in the framework of the MarcoPolo-R asteroid sample return mission. THERMAP is very well suited to characterize the surface thermal environment of a NEO and to map its surface composition. The instrument has two channels, one for imaging and one for spectroscopy: it is both a thermal camera with full 2D imaging capabilities and a slit spectrometer. THERMAP takes advantage of the recent technological developments of uncooled microbolometers detectors, sensitive in the mid-infrared spectral range. THERMAP can acquire thermal images (8-18 {\mu}m) of the surface and perform absolute temperature measurements with a precision better than 3.5 K above 200 K. THERMAP can acquire mid-infrared spectra (8-16 {\mu}m) of the surface with a spectral resolution {\Delta}{\lambda} of 0.3 {\mu}m. Abstract

The Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) is a new facility instrument for Subaru Telescope which will be installed in around 2017. It is a multi-object spectrograph fed by about 2400 fibers placed at the prime focus covering a hexagonal field-of-view with 1.35 deg diagonals and capable of simultaneously obtaining data of spectra with wavelengths ranging from 0.38 um to 1.26 um. The spectrograph system is composed of four identical modules each receiving the light from 600 fibers. Each module incorporates three channels covering the wavelength ranges 0.38-0.65 mu ("Blue"), 0.63-0.97 mu ("Red"), and 0.94-1.26 mu ("NIR") respectively; with resolving power which progresses fairly smoothly from about 2000 in the blue to about 4000 in the infrared. An additional spectral mode allows reaching a spectral resolution of 5000 at 0.8mu (red). The proposed optical design is based on a Schmidt collimator facing three Schmidt cameras (one per spectral channel). This architecture is very robust, well known and documented. It allows for high image quality with only few simple elements (high throughput) at the expense of the central obscuration, which leads to larger optics. Each module has to be modular in its design to allow for integration and tests and for its safe transport up to the telescope: this is the main driver for the mechanical design. In particular, each module will be firstly fully integrated and validated at LAM (France) before it is shipped to Hawaii. All sub-assemblies will be indexed on the bench to allow for their accurate repositioning. Abstract

The ISS (Integral-field Spectrograph System) has been designed as part of the EAGLE Phase A Instrument Study for the E-ELT. It consists of two input channels of 1.65x1.65 arcsec field-of-view, each reconfigured spatially by an image-slicing integral-field unit to feed a single near-IR spectrograph using cryogenic volume-phase-holographic (VPH) gratings to disperse the image spectrally. A 4k x 4k array detector array records the dispersed images. The optical design employs anamorphic magnification, image slicing, VPH gratings scanned with a novel cryo-mechanism and a three-lens camera. Abstract

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a complex disease, and its treatment needs to be adjusted to the risk, which is conferred by cytogenetics and molecular markers. Cytarabine is the main drug to treat AML, and it has been suggested that the genotype of cytarabine metabolizing enzymes may have a prognostic relevance in AML. Here we report the association between the 5 '-nucleotidase, cytosolic II (NT5C2) rs10883841, cytidine deaminase (CDA) rs2072671 and rs532545 genotypes and the clinical outcome of 477 intermediate-risk cytogenetic AML patients receiving cytarabine-based chemotherapy. Patients younger than 50 years old with the NT5C2 rs10883841 AA genotype had lower overall survival (OS) (p: .003; HR 2.16, 95% CI 1.29-3.61) and lower disease-free survival (DFS) (p: .002; HR 2.45, 95% CI 1.41-4.27), associated to a higher relapse incidence (p: .010; HR 2.23, 95% CI 1.21-4.12). Interestingly, subgroup analysis showed that the negative effect of the NT5C2 rs10883841 AA genotype was detected in all subgroups except in patients with nucleophosmin mutation without high ratio FLT-3 internal tandem duplication. CDA polymorphisms were associated with the complete remission rate after induction chemotherapy, without influencing OS. Further studies are warranted to determine whether this pharmacogenomic approach may be helpful to individualize AML treatment.

Abstract

WEST is an MA class superconducting, actively cooled, full tungsten (W) tokamak, designed to operate in long pulses up to 1000 s. In support of ITER operation and DEMO conceptual activities, key missions of WEST are: (i) qualification of high heat flux plasma-facing components in integrating both technological and physics aspects in relevant heat and particle exhaust conditions, particularly for the tungsten monoblocks foreseen in ITER divertor; (ii) integrated steady-state operation at high confinement, with a focus on power exhaust issues. During the phase 1 of operation (2017–2020), a set of actively cooled ITER-grade plasma facing unit prototypes was integrated into the inertially cooled W coated startup lower divertor. Up to 8.8 MW of RF power has been coupled to the plasma and divertor heat flux of up to 6 MW m−2 were reached. Long pulse operation was started, using the upper actively cooled divertor, with a discharge of about 1 min achieved. This paper gives an overview of the results achieved in phase 1. Perspectives for phase 2, operating with the full capability of the device with the complete ITER-grade actively cooled lower divertor, are also described.

Abstract

The negative prognostic impact of FLT3-ITD in patients with acute myeloid leukemia with mutated NPM1 (AML-NPM1) is restricted to patients with a higher FLT3-ITD allelic ratio (=0.5; FLT3high) and considered negligible in wild-type (FLT3wt)/low ITD ratio (FLT3low) patients. Since the co-mutation of DNMT3A (DNMT3Amut) has been suggested to negatively influence the prognosis of AML-NPM1, we analyzed DNMT3Amut impact in FLT3-ITD subsets (absent, low and high ratio). A total of 164 patients diagnosed with AML-NPM1 who received intensive chemotherapy according to two consecutive protocols (AML-03 and AML-12) were selected: 76 harboring FLT3-ITD (46%), 79 DNMT3Amut (48%), and 39 (24%) showing both mutations. Overall, DNMT3A mutational status did not show prognostic impact with comparable OS (mut vs. wt 62±6% vs. 56±6%; p=0.2), RR (22±11% vs. 31±11%; p=0.2) and LFS (65±6 vs. 54±6, p=0.1). Prognostic stratification established by FLT3-ITD (FLT3wt= FLT3low> FLT3high) was independent of DNMT3A mutational status. Abstract

The potential prognostic value of conventional karyotyping in adult T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) remains an open question. We hypothesized that a modified cytogenetic classification, based on the number and type of cytogenetic abnormalities, would allow the identification of high-risk adult T-ALL patients. Complex karyotype defined by the presence of >3 cytogenetic alterations identified T-ALL patients with poor prognosis in this study. Karyotypes with >3 abnormalities accounted for 16 % (22/139) of all evaluable karyotypes, corre-sponding to the largest poor prognosis cytogenetic subgroup of T-ALL identified so far. Patients carrying kar-yotypes with >3 cytogenetic alterations showed a significantly inferior response to therapy, and a poor outcome in terms of event-free survival (EFS), overall survival (OS) and cumulative incidence of relapse (CIR), inde-pendently of other baseline characteristics and the end-induction minimal residual disease (MRD) level. Addi-tional molecular analyses of patients carrying >3 cytogenetic alterations showed a unique molecular profile that could contribute to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms of resistance and to evaluate novel tar-geted therapies (e.g. IL7R directed) with potential impact on outcome of adult T-ALL patients.
