Specific aims The primary goal of the project is to assess the validity of the Hungarian version of the Elkins Hypnotizability Scale (EHS-HUN), developed in our translation process. To reach this goal, we aim to measure the correlation of the scores produced by using the EHS-HUN with the measurements of other, already validated hypnotizability measures. A secondary goal of the study is to assess the association of hypnotizability and Thought Impact Scale Short-Form (TIS-SF). Another secondary goal of the study is to provide preliminary Hungarian norms for the EHS-HUN. Significance The EHS-HUN would be an extremely valuable tool for Hungarian hypnosis research, due to the EHS’ great psychometric properties, its safety, and its time-effectiveness compared to other individual hypnotizability scales. This study will provide a first insight into the validity of the Hungarian version.

Study 1 will explore the expectancies, subjective experiences, and psychophysiological changes evoked by different unconventional (“sham”) hypnosis induction procedures compared to a conventional hypnosis induction, and identify the sham induction that evokes the highest expectancy.
