Abstract

We use the Chern-Simons action for a SO(3)-connection for the description of point disclinations in the geometric theory of defects. The most general spherically symmetric SO(3)-connection with zero curvature is found. The corresponding orthogonal spherically symmetric SO(3) matrix and n-field are computed. Abstract

Magnetoresistance (MR) in the out-of-plane resistivity $\rho_c$ for the normal state of the one-layer high-quality Bi_2Sr_2CuO_x single crystals under various dc magnetic fields up to 28 T over the temperature region 6-100 K has been measured. We observed the anomalously large negative longitudinal MR up to 60%. At low temperatures the normal-state MR in contrast to the MR in mixed state is independent of the direction of the current relatively to the field direction suggesting uniquely the spin dominated origin of that. The magnitude of the MR is activated in magnetic field and temperature. We interpret the activated form of $\rho_c$ and the negative MR in terms of 2D stacked alternating metallic and dielectric layers assuming the tunneling between CuO_2 planes. If the main fluctuations inside CuO_2 planes have magnetic origin, the magnetic field suppresses these fluctuations leading to the uniform spin orientation. Abstract

The paper deals with the problem of fatigue failure and durability of structural elements in the process of cyclic loading. Previously, such problems were solved by calculating the stress state in a cycle using a multiaxial fatigue fracture criterion. Here we consider the initiation and development of the fatigue process based on the cyclic damage model. The model contains the evolution equation for the damage function depending on stress state. The algorithm is based on a special post proceeding of a numerical solution for an elastic solid mechanics problem that can be also applied for elastic-plastic case. The normal crack opening and shear crack mechanisms are taken into account in this model. On this basis, calculations of the initiation and development of crack-like fracture zones are carried out for an aircraft structure element of a disk with a blade in a flight loading cycle. The geometry of quasi-cracks in the vicinity of the contact zone of the disk and the blade and the assessment of durability are similar to those observed in real operation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
