This requires basic slide scanner infrastructure in participating laboratories to produce whole-slide images. More importantly, a software platform is needed for exchange of these images and functionality to support the processes around discussing and reporting on these images without breaching patient privacy. This poses high demands on the setup of such a platform, given the inherent complexity of the handling of digital pathology images. In this article, we describe the setup and validation of the Pathology Image Exchange project, which aimed to create a vendor-independent platform for exchange of whole-slide images between Dutch pathology laboratories to facilitate efficient teleconsultation, telerevision, and virtual slide panels. Pathology Image Exchange was released in April 2018 after technical validation, and a first successful validation in real life has been performed for hematopathology cases.

Contains fulltext : 98298.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access), BACKGROUND: The Netherlands has experienced epidemics of vaccine preventable diseases largely confined to the Bible belt, an area where -among others- orthodox protestant groups are living. Lacking information on the vaccination coverage in this minority, and its various subgroups, control of vaccine preventable diseases is focused on the geographical area of the Bible belt. However, the adequacy of this strategy is questionable. This study assesses the influence of presence of various orthodox protestant subgroups (orthodox protestant denominations, OPDs) on municipal vaccination coverage in the Bible belt. METHODS: We performed an ecological study at municipality level. Data on number of inhabitants, urbanization level, socio-economical status, immigration and vaccination coverage were obtained from national databases. As religion is not registered in the Netherlands, membership numbers of the OPDs had to be obtained from church year books and via church offices. For all municipalities in the Netherlands, the effect of presence or absence of OPDs on vaccination coverage was assessed by comparing mean vaccination coverage. For municipalities where OPDs were present, the effect of each of them (measured as membership ratio, the number of members proportional to total number of inhabitants) on vaccination coverage was assessed by bivariate correlation and multiple regression analysis in a model containing the determinants immigration, socio-economical status and urbanization as well. RESULTS: Mean vaccination coverage (93.5% +/- 4.7) in municipalities with OPDs (n = 135) was significantly lower (p < 0.001) than in 297 municipalities without OPDs (96.9% +/- 2.1). Multiple regression analyses showed that in municipalities with OPDs 84% of the variance in vaccination coverage was explained by the presence of these OPDs. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of working memory training on children with the mean age of five years in relation to number sense. Moreover the effects of working memory training between the two genders were examined in relation to number sense. A sample of 126 children was randomly matched assigned to the experimental conditions and the control condition. The sample consisted of 69 boys and 57 girls. The experimental conditions either received a visual-spatial working memory training (n=42) or a verbal working memory training (n=42). The non-experimental condition (n=42) received a substitute program. Three instruments were used to measure number sense, the Number-to-Position (NP) 1-10, the NP 1-100 and the Utrechtse Getalbegrip Toets-Revised (UGT-R). The results revealed a significant average effect of verbal working memory training in comparison with the non-experimental condition on the UGT-R. No significant improvements were found on the NP 1-10 and the NP 1-100. There were also no significant effects of gender on all tasks. It is suggested that number line and gender differences are still developing in children with a mean age of five years. Together these findings suggest that number sense of children with the mean age of five years can be trained by using working memory tasks.
