Computer Science - Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition - Abstract
Denoising Probabilistic Models (DPMs) represent an emerging domain of generative models that excel in generating diverse and high-quality images. However, most current training methods for DPMs often neglect the correlation between timesteps, limiting the model's performance in generating images effectively. Notably, we theoretically point out that this issue can be caused by the cumulative estimation gap between the predicted and the actual trajectory. To minimize that gap, we propose a novel \textit{sequence-aware} loss that aims to reduce the estimation gap to enhance the sampling quality. Furthermore, we theoretically show that our proposed loss function is a tighter upper bound of the estimation loss in comparison with the conventional loss in DPMs. Experimental results on several benchmark datasets including CIFAR10, CelebA, and CelebA-HQ consistently show a remarkable improvement of our proposed method regarding the image generalization quality measured by FID and Inception Score compared to several DPM baselines. Computer applications to medicine. Medical informatics ,R858-859.7 ,Public aspects of medicine ,RA1-1270 - Abstract
BackgroundArtificial intelligence (AI)–based technologies develop rapidly and have myriad applications in medicine and health care. However, there is a lack of comprehensive reporting on the productivity, workflow, topics, and research landscape of AI in this field. ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the global development of scientific publications and constructed interdisciplinary research topics on the theory and practice of AI in medicine from 1977 to 2018. MethodsWe obtained bibliographic data and abstract contents of publications published between 1977 and 2018 from the Web of Science database. A total of 27,451 eligible articles were analyzed. Research topics were classified by latent Dirichlet allocation, and principal component analysis was used to identify the construct of the research landscape. ResultsThe applications of AI have mainly impacted clinical settings (enhanced prognosis and diagnosis, robot-assisted surgery, and rehabilitation), data science and precision medicine (collecting individual data for precision medicine), and policy making (raising ethical and legal issues, especially regarding privacy and confidentiality of data). However, AI applications have not been commonly used in resource-poor settings due to the limit in infrastructure and human resources. ConclusionsThe application of AI in medicine has grown rapidly and focuses on three leading platforms: clinical practices, clinical material, and policies. AI might be one of the methods to narrow down the inequality in health care and medicine between developing and developed countries. Technology transfer and support from developed countries are essential measures for the advancement of AI application in health care in developing countries.

- Abstract
Cyberbullying is a form of violence that has been present in schools for a long time and negatively impacts the mental health of students. Different countries have different strategies for avoiding cyberbullying. However, research on school-based cyberbullying prevention is limited in Southeast Asian developing countries. This study aims to explore the current implementation of school-based cyberbullying prevention in public schools in a developing country. The framework of prevention programs is based on three aspects: (1) Developing curricula on how to behave when being a victim of cyberbullying. (2) Strengthening the students' skills to deal with cyberbullying. (3) Promulgating specific provisions in the legal document on handling cyberbullying. School-based cyberbullying prevention among students in public schools is currently a research gap because of the limitations in the management of students using the internet and educational policies. This is a cross-sectional study that surveyed 400 participants who are Vietnamese teachers, administrators and school psychologists. The results show that the limitations ofschool-based cyberbullying prevention for Vietnamese students include professional knowledge, practical experience and personnel in charge of this work. This constraint has resulted in an upsurge in incidents of cyberbullying in Vietnam. The findings add to the important evidence on cyberbullying prevention in a developing country that is working to research and develop an appropriate school-based cyberbullying prevention strategy.

Confucianism has a substantial impact on the Vietnamese family culture. Over many generations, Confucianism in the Vietnamese family has been distorted, affecting the behavior and mental health of family members. This paper presents the influence of Confucianism on the self-esteem of adolescents with self-destructive behavior. The study applied a phenomenological study approach in qualitative research to find out the essence of the adolescents’ self-destructive behavior and how it affected to the adolescents’ mental health. An in-depth examination of three typical cases was implemented to triangulate the data and obtain the trustworthiness. The findings showed that self-destructive behavior stemmed from the participants’ needs for being recognized and loved by parents that were not satisfied due to loose family attachment caused by their parents’ Confucian ideology. This reason led to consequences that the adolescents’ self-esteem appeared to be incomplete and that they tended to exhibit negative behaviors. As a result, the essence of self-destructive behavior is the consequence of prejudices about Confucian ideology in family education that still exists in Vietnamese family culture. These findings offer an essential reference source for counseling and mental health care services in supporting those with self-destructive behavior caused by family.

Background and Objectives: The biofilm formation has been widely recognized as one of the main mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance development in microorganisms. However, few studies are focusing on this phenomenon in Candida spp. in clinical settings, especially on immuno-compromised patients. Materials and Methods: In this study, both the rate of biofilm formation in those patients and its drug susceptibility in initial and mature biofilm were assessed using crystal violet assay and dilution method. Results: The results demonstrated that the biofilm formation rate was similar between albicans and non-albicans Candida. However, the biofilm formation capacity was more pronounced in non-albicans Candida, especially, C. glabrata. As expected, there was a significant relationship between biofilm formation and drug resistance. In addition, our study reconfirmed that the age of high concentration of antifungal agents only affected Candida before its biofilm formation regardless of its biofilm formation capacity. In the contrary, once the biofilm was formed even elevated drug concentrations did not show sufficient efficacy, highlighting a need for high dosage at the early stage of treatment for those patients. Conclusion: The results of this study highlighted the importance of using appropriate antifungal agents for Candida treatment before the formation of biofilm.

Mindfulness practices in schools have emerged as an educational effort that aims to promote the development of the competency and mental well-being of students. Specifically, mindfulness-based social–emotional learning (MBSEL) programs are an educational strategy that focuses on the improvement of social–emotional competence by cultivating awareness of the present moment through mindfulness activities. This study intended to investigate the benefits and limitations of the implementation of school-based mindfulness practice in a developing nation with a culturally diverse and multi-religious population. Using an interpretive phenomenological method, the researchers interviewed eight mindfulness practitioners experienced in teaching or overseeing MBSEL programs in schools. The findings demonstrated how a western-based mindfulness program can be matched with the fundamental concepts of eastern mindfulness practices, as influenced by the Eastern Trinity philosophy. Furthermore, the study emphasized the difficulties that emerged from misconceptions about the concepts of mindfulness practice and the position of school-based mindfulness programs within the scope of school counseling, which impeded the successful implementation of the practitioners of the MBSEL model. These initial findings elucidated the nuances of implementing MBSEL initiatives within the context of a developing country marked by a rich tradition of mindfulness practice and accessible resources for advancing mindfulness studies.

- Abstract
Projection in education is one of the important bases for the implementation of the sustainable and crucial strategies to ensure the development of national education, including Vietnam. As a country in Southeast Asia with the distinctive characteristics of culture and history, Vietnam has the certain advantages and disadvantages in the development of education. In this study, the projection of Vietnamese students of each school level in the period of 2015 -- 2035, was referred in comparison with the projection of the teacher resource in all school levels as one of the conditions for the basic educational development in Vietnam. The study was conducted using an integrated projection in education's formula, combined with a census (birth rate - for students; the number of teachers from Department of Education and Training's reports, the pedagogy students prepare for graduation - for teachers) from 32 provinces and cities of Vietnam and analyzed on the rate of population change over the years. The results showed that the shortage of the teacher resource (especially the preschool teachers) and the erratic increase in the number of the children born in the good years according to the Eastern concept were the anxious issues when developing Vietnamese education and integrating into the global development trend.

- Abstract
The correlation between the stress problems and the needs for high school students' stress counseling in Vietnam is an unspecified issue that deserves attention. This study was conducted to test the hypothesis that there was no correlation between the stress problems and the needs for counseling of high school students in Vietnam. Survey of 1,200 high school students in Vietnam from grades 6 to 12 with questionnaires, the results show that the mean score of stress problems in high school students is 2.67 - corresponding to moderate level. Different levels of learning and living conditions are encountered in different student's stress problems. The mean score for high school students' stress needs of counseling is 3.18 - corresponding to the optional level. Different levels of education have different needs for stress counseling. There is a strong correlation between high school students' problems and needs for stress counseling. The more problematic high school students experience in stress, the more they need to be counseled on this issue.

- Abstract
Domestic violence, separation and divorce are becoming increasingly common and leaving psychological traumas that are not easily healed for family members, especially for children in Vietnamese incomplete family. In this article, we identify the factors affecting the psychological trauma of children in the incomplete families by using Achenbach T. M's Children Behavior Checklist (CBCL). We design 2 experiments and 3 steps to filter the main factor affected the psychological trauma of children living in incomplete families. In results, we found out that up to 46.42% of children had psychological traumas when living in incomplete family with an extremely high level of 8.16% and an average of 57.14%. The results showed not only by living in incomplete family but also other factors such as the pressure from public opinion and community affected the children psychological trauma. It is necessary to minimize the effect of psychological trauma of children in Vietnamese families.

We study the large-time behavior of solutions of a one-phase Stefan-type problem with anisotropic diffusion in periodic media on an exterior domain in a dimension $n \geq 3$. By a rescaling transformation that matches the expansion of the free boundary, we deduce the homogenization of the free boundary velocity together with the homogenization of the anisotropic operator. Moreover, we obtain the convergence of the rescaled solution to the solution of the homogenized Hele-Shaw-type problem with a point source and the convergence of the rescaled free boundary to a self-similar profile with respect to the Hausdorff distance., Comment: 30 pages

Condensed Matter - Soft Condensed Matter - Abstract
Experimental data on thin films of cylinder-forming block copolymers (BC) -- free-standing BC membranes as well as supported BC films -- strongly suggest that the local orientation of the BC patterns is coupled to the geometry in which the patterns are embedded. We analyze this phenomenon using general symmetry considerations and numerical self-consistent field studies of curved BC films in cylindrical geometry. The stability of the films against curvature-induced dewetting is also analyzed. In good agreement with experiments, we find that the BC cylinders tend to align along the direction of curvature at high curvatures. At low curvatures, we identify a transition from perpendicular to parallel alignment in supported films, which is absent in free standing membranes. Hence both experiments and theory show that curvature can be used to manipulate and align BC patterns.

Mathematics - Analysis of PDEs - Abstract
We study the long-time behavior of solutions of the one-phase Stefan problem in inhomogeneous media in dimensions $n \geq 2$. Using the technique of rescaling which is consistent with the evolution of the free boundary, we are able to show the homogenization of the free boundary velocity as well as the locally uniform convergence of the rescaled solution to a self-similar solution of the homogeneous Hele-Shaw problem with a point source. Moreover, by viscosity solution methods, we also deduce that the rescaled free boundary uniformly approaches a sphere with respect to Hausdorff distance., Comment: 20 pages

- Abstract
Forests worldwide are under increasing pressure from climate change and emerging diseases, threatening their vital ecological and economic roles. Traditional breeding approaches, while valuable, are inherently slow and limited by the long generation times and existing genetic variation of trees. CRISPR technologies offer a transformative solution, enabling precise and efficient genome editing to accelerate the development of climate-resilient and productive forests. This review provides a comprehensive overview of CRISPR applications in forestry, exploring its potential for enhancing disease resistance, improving abiotic stress tolerance, modifying wood properties, and accelerating growth. We discuss the mechanisms and applications of various CRISPR systems, including base editing, prime editing, and multiplexing strategies. Additionally, we highlight recent advances in overcoming key challenges such as reagent delivery and plant regeneration, which are crucial for successful implementation of CRISPR in trees. We also delve into the potential and ethical considerations of using CRISPR gene drive for population-level genetic alterations, as well as the importance of genetic containment strategies for mitigating risks. This review emphasizes the need for continued research, technological advancements, extensive long-term field trials, public engagement, and responsible innovation to fully harness the power of CRISPR for shaping a sustainable future for forests.
