Resumo O artigo objetiva reconstruir a memória do acervo arqueológico da Usina Hidrelétrica de Balbina, situada no município de Presidente Figueiredo, estado do Amazonas. Para isso, abordamos aspectos ligados à Arqueologia amazônica e à construção de usinas geradoras de energia elétrica na década de 1980, bem como as políticas do licenciamento ambiental brasileiras. Partimos do debate sobre formação de acervos arqueológicos no Brasil tendo em vista o conceito de estratigrafia do abandono. A pesquisa foi realizada em instituições arquivísticas e através de entrevistas com profissionais ligados ao Projeto de Salvamento Arqueológico da UHE Balbina (SAUHEB). Com isso, apresentamos como ocorreu o processo de esquecimento de um conjunto de fontes arqueológicas, circunscritas no terreno das memórias exiladas, e ressignificadas a partir das ações patrimoniais contemporâneas.

The quantum Hall effect in curved space has been the subject of many theoretical investigations in the past, but devising a physical system to observe this effect is hard. Many works have indicated that electronic excitations in strained graphene realize Dirac fermions in curved space in the presence of a background pseudo-gauge field, providing an ideal playground for this. However, the absence of a direct matching between a numerical, strained tight-binding calculation of an observable and the corresponding curved space prediction has hindered realistic predictions. In this work, we provide this matching by deriving the low-energy Hamiltonian from the tight-binding model analytically to second order in the strain and mapping it to the curved-space Dirac equation. Using a strain profile that produces a constant pseudo-magnetic field and a constant curvature, we compute the Landau level spectrum with real-space numerical tight-binding calculations and find excellent agreement with the prediction of the quantum Hall effect in curved space. We conclude discussing experimental schemes for measuring this effect.

Objective:To test the following two hypotheses regarding the consequences of Herbst appliance (HA) insertion: 1) a significant clockwise mandibular rotation will occur and 2) the displacement of the condyles will follow the same magnitude of the changes of overjet (OJ) and overbite (OB).Methods:Virtual 3D surface models of 25 patients were generated from cone-beam computed tomographs taken before treatment and immediately after HA insertion. Scans were registered on the cranial base and were analyzed using point-to-point measurements, color-coded maps, and semitransparent overlays. Statistical tests included correlation and simple regression analysis.Results:Pitch rotation, ranging from −2.2° to 2.2° (mean, 0.2°), was observed in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. Condylar sagittal displacement presented a positive correlation with OJ changes. Each millimeter of OJ correction resulted in an anterior condylar displacement of approximately 0.95 mm. Vertical condylar displacement correlated with OB changes and varied mostly between 2 mm and 4.5 mm.Conclusion:Immediately after HA insertion, no significant clockwise mandibular rotation was observed. The condyles were displaced anteriorly and inferiorly. Condylar anterior displacement and OJ correction presented a ratio close to 1:1. The vertical displacement of the condyles did not follow the same magnitude of OB changes.

Introduction: Suicide is a leading cause of death for men in the United States. Men traditionally have been hesitant to seek help, based on masculine norms of stoicism and self‐reliance, among other factors. Man Therapy (MT) is an online suicide prevention and mental health initiative that provides promise for facilitating male help‐seeking. Methods: This study draws on data from a randomized controlled trial which examined effects of MT on a sample of men residing in Michigan aged 25–64. The current study utilized logistic regression to test MT's effect on nonprofessional and professional help‐seeking, controlling for marital status, education, and sexual orientation. Results: A statistically significant positive association was found between MT and professional help‐seeking (OR = 1.55, p = 0.049). A significant inverse association was also found with marital status, with partnered men less likely to seek professional help (OR = 0.53, p = 0.007). There was no significant association between MT and nonprofessional help‐seeking. Conclusion: Man Therapy demonstrates the promise of web‐based suicide prevention efforts to reach men who typically do not engage in help‐seeking, providing a gateway to vital professional support. As technology continues to emerge, further suicide research is needed on use of this modality with working‐age men from diverse backgrounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many researchers have shown the potential of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images for agricultural applications, particularly for monitoring regions with limitations in terms of acquiring cloud free optical images. Recently, Brazil and Germany began a feasibility study on the construction of an orbital L-band SAR sensor referred to as MAPSAR (Multi-Application Purpose SAR). This sensor provides L-band images in three spatial resolutions and polarimetric, interferometric and stereoscopic capabilities. Thus, studies are needed to evaluate the potential of future MAPSAR images. The objective of this study was to evaluate multipolarized MAPSAR images simulated by the airborne SAR-R99B sensor to distinguish coffee, cotton and pasture fields in Brazil. Discrimination among crops was evaluated through graphical and cluster analysis of mean backscatter values, considering single, dual and triple polarizations. Planting row direction of coffee influenced the backscatter and was divided into two classes: parallel and perpendicular to the sensor look direction. Single polarizations had poor ability to discriminate the crops. The overall accuracies were less than 59 %, but the understanding of the microwave interaction with the crops could be explored. Combinations of two polarizations could differentiate various fields of crops, highlighting the combination VV-HV that reached 78 % overall accuracy. The use of three polarizations resulted in 85.4 % overall accuracy, indicating that the classes pasture and parallel coffee were fully discriminated from the other classes. These results confirmed the potential of multipolarized MAPSAR images to distinguish the studied crops and showed considerable improvement in the accuracy of the results when the number of polarizations was increased.

Traditional manual sugarcane harvesting requires the pre-harvest burning practice which should be gradually banned by 2021 for most of São Paulo State, Brazil, on cultivated sugarcane land (terrain slope ≤12%) according to State Law number 11241. To forward the end of this practice to 2014, a “Green Ethanol” Protocol was established in 2007. The present work aims at analyzing five years of continuous sugarcane harvest monitoring, based on remote sensing images, to evaluate the effectiveness of the Protocol, thus helping decision makers to establish public policies to meet the Protocol’s expected goals. During the last five crop years, sugarcane acreage expanded by 1.5 million ha, which was compensated by a correspondent increase in the green harvested land. However, no significant reduction was observed in the amount of pre-harvest burned land over the same period. Based on the current trend, this goal is likely to be achieved one or two years later (2015–2016), which will be five or six years ahead of 2021 as the goal in the State Law number 11241 states. We thus conclude that the“Green Ethanol” Protocol has been effective with a positive impact on the increase of GH, especially on recently expanded sugarcane fields.

This paper describes the methodology applied to generate simulated multipolarized L-band SAR images of the MAPSAR (Multi-Application Purpose SAR) satellite from the airborne SAR R99B sensor (SIVAM System). MAPSAR is a feasibility study conducted by INPE (National Institute for Space Research) and DLR (German Aerospace Center) targeting a satellite L-band SAR innovative mission for assessment, management and monitoring of natural resources. Examples of simulated products and their applications are briefly discussed.

The paper presents an introductory and general discussion on the quantum Monte Carlo methods, some fundamental algorithms, concepts and applicability. In order to introduce the quantum Monte Carlo method, preliminary concepts associated with Monte Carlo techniques are discussed.

The current concept for effective and efficient treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusion prescribes that interceptive approach should be delivered during the pubertal growth stage. However, psychosocial issues and a greater risk of dental trauma are also factors that should be addressed when considering early Class II therapy. This paper reports a case of a patient that sought orthodontic treatment due to aesthetic discomfort with the incisors’ protrusion. Two previous treatments failed because patient’s collaboration with removable appliances was inadequate. Given his history of no collaboration and because the patient was in the prepubertal stage, it was decided to try a different approach in the third attempt of treatment. Traumatic injury protective devices were used during the prepubertal stage and followed by Herbst appliance and fixed multibrackets therapy during the pubertal stage, resulting in an adequate outcome and long-term stability.

Esse artigo examina a ocupação de uma área periférica aos grupos de tesos que compõem o padrão de assentamento típico da fase Marajoara. Os sítios identificados ao longo do rio Anajás mostraram uma maior variabilidade com relação aos ssentamentos da área nuclear do cacicado, o que permitiu melhor entender as relações regionais, além de ser importante no estabelecimento da cronologia da ocupação. A metodologia utilizada privilegiou o estudo de feições culturais e a inserção dos sítios na paisagem, demonstrando que é possível investigar sociedades pretéritas sem reduzi-las aos seus artefatos. Os resultados obtidos com a pesquisa somente foram possíveis graças à utilização de uma abordagem regional, enfocando, ao mesmo tempo, as especificidades da ocupação no espaço intra-sítio.

Neste trabalho realizou-se umlevantamento de pteridófitas na Floresta Estadualde Bebedouro, localizada no município deBebedouro, sob as coordenadas 20º57’ de latitudeS e 48º30’ de longitude W. As coletas foramrealizadas em três trilhas denominadas “Trilha daFloresta de Produção”, “Trilha da Mata Ciliar” e“Trilha do Viveiro”. Foram reconhecidas dezespécies de pteridófitas pertencentes a cincofamílias. Destas, as mais representativas foramPteridaceae com quatro espécies distribuídas emquatro gêneros e Polypodiaceae com três espéciesdistribuídas em dois gêneros. Das dez espéciesregistradas sete apresentaram distribuição bastanterestrita, ocorrendo apenas na “Trilha da MataCiliar” e duas, Cheilantes concolor Langsd. &Fisch. e Thelypteris dentata (Forssk.) E. St. John,foram as de ocorrência mais ampla. Em todas astrilhas ocorreram pteridófitas, sendo que a “Trilhada Mata Ciliar” foi a mais rica. As pteridófitasocorrem no cerrado “sensu stricto”, na mata ciliar ena mata estacional semidecidual. A maior riquezade espécies ocorre na mata ciliar e na mataestacional semidecidual.This work presents a pteridophyticalsurvey carried out at Bebedouro State Forest,in the municipality of Bebedouro (20º57’S and48º30’W). Collections were accomplished at threetrails: “Trilha da Floresta de Produção”, “Trilha daMata Ciliar” and “Trilha do Viveiro”. Ten speciesof Pteridophyta were recognized. From these, themost representative ones were Pteridaceae withfour species distributed into four genera andPolypodiaceae with three species distributed intotwo genera. From the ten registered species, sevenhad a very restricted distribution occurring only inthe “Trilha da Mata Ciliar” but Cheilantesconcolor and Thelypteris dentata presented a wideroccurrence. There were pteridophytes at all thetrails and “Trilha da Mata Ciliar” was found to bethe richest in species. Pteridophytes occur incerrado “sensu stricto”, semideciduous forest andgallery forest. The diversity is found in the galleryforest and semideciduous forest.
