The long-term nature of mental health needs after disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina, continues to require attention. Research that emerged during the anniversaries of the storm has shown Katrina and its aftermath to be associated with posttraumatic stress, depression, anxiety, disruptive behavior, and somatic complaints in children and adolescents. Ten years after one of the most devastating storms in U.S. history, lessons can be learned from mental health interventions designed to help children and families cope with trauma. This study takes a retrospective look at Classroom-Community Consultation (C[superscript 3]), a school-based referral model established months after Hurricane Katrina. Developed by Project Fleur-de-lis (PFDL), the largest school-based mental health program in New Orleans, the C[superscript 3] model brought school-based mental health professionals together with PFDL staff in the community to triage students who needed intensive services. Within a case study framework, this study describes the evolution, impact, and implications of C[superscript 3] from the perspective of five former C[superscript 3] participants. Participants shared how and why they became involved with C[superscript 3], the consultation they received, how C[superscript 3] helped them grow as practitioners and connected them with additional resources, and implications for linking community-based and school-based mental health services to be better prepared for any disaster.

Project Fleur-de-lis[TM] (PFDL) was established to provide a tiered approach to triage and treat children experiencing trauma symptoms after Hurricane Katrina. PFDL provides school screening in schools in New Orleans and three tiers of evidence-based treatment (EBT) to disaster-exposed children utilizing a public health approach to meet the various needs of students referred to the program, some stemming from the disaster itself, some related to prior exposure to violence, and some relating to preexisting conditions and educational delays. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is funding a research project conducted in collaboration with PFDL, to examine two evidence-based practices for child PTSD in order to guide child treatment decisions after future disaster situations. This article describes the need for mental health services for children following disaster, the structure and purpose of PFDL, design of the NIMH project, two case descriptions of children treated within the project, and preliminary lessons learned.

Project Fleur-de-lis was designed only days after Hurricane Katrina to address the intermediate and long-term mental health issues of students as they re-entered school. This article describes the creation, design, impact, and "lessons learned" of this innovative school-based mental health system. (Contains 1 figure.)

It identifies emerging case law which may be important to insurance coverage practitioners in the future. It addresses cases and judgments pertaining to insurance coverage disputes. Furthermore, it discusses important developments arising in the insurance industry such as fidelity bonds, commercial general liability (CGL) policies, and directors and officers (D & O) coverage.

The article offers information on the creation, design and impact of Project Fleur-de-lis, an innovative school-based mental health system that served the mental health needs of New Orleans-area youth in Louisiana since March 2006. The project is a collaborative program linking local social service agencies, schools and nationally recognized researchers, program developers and clinicians in coordinate effort to offer state-of-the-art mental health services within 55 New Orleans-area schools. Also discussed are the project's history, intervention pathways and classroom-community consultation.
