1. Principal Component Regression to Study the Impact of Economic Factors on Disadvantaged Communities

Abstract

The Council on Environmental Quality's Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool defines "disadvantaged communities" (DAC) in the USA, highlighting census tracts where benefits of climate and energy investments are not accruing. We use a principal component generalized linear model, which addresses the intertwined nature of economic factors, income and employment and model their relationship to DAC status. Our study 1) identifies the most significant income groups and employment industries that impact DAC status, 2) provides the probability of DAC status across census tracts and compares the predictive accuracy with widely used machine learning approaches, 3) obtains historical predictions of the probability of DAC status, 4) obtains spatial downscaling of DAC status across block groups. Our study provides valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders to develop strategies that promote sustainable development and address inequities in climate and energy investments in the USA., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables

Abstract

Disadvantaged communities (DAC), as defined by the Justice40 initiative of the Department of Energy (DOE), USA, identifies census tracts across the USA to determine where benefits of climate and energy investments are or are not currently accruing. The DAC status not only helps in determining the eligibility for future Justice40-related investments but is also critical for exploring ways to achieve equitable distribution of resources. However, designing inclusive and equitable strategies not just requires a good understanding of current demographics, but also a deeper analysis of the transformations that happened in those demographics over the years. In this paper, machine learning (ML) models are trained on publicly available census data from recent years to classify the DAC status at the census tracts level and then the trained model is used to classify DAC status for historical years. A detailed analysis of the feature and model selection along with the evolution of disadvantaged communities between 2013 and 2018 is presented in this study.

Abstract

A splicing system is one of the early theoretical proposals of the DNA-based computation device. The splicing operation starts when two DNA molecules are cut at specific subsequences with the presence of restriction enzymes: the first part is then connected to the second part of the other molecule, or vice versa, to produce splicing languages. Fuzzy with bounded-addition operation has been introduced as a restriction in splicing systems to increase the generative power of the languages generated. In this research, a graphical user interface is developed to generate all the splicing languages generated by bounded-addition fuzzy splicing systems and their variants. An algorithm is developed using JAVA and Visual Studio Code software in order to replace the time-consuming manual computation of the languages generated by bounded-addition fuzzy DNA splicing systems and their variants.

Abstract

In order to obtain high-density 316L/IN718 mixed metal powder parts, the forming process of 316L/IN718 mixed metal powder was investigated by single fusion channel experiments, single layer experiments and block experiments, based on laser-selective melting (SLM) technology with different laser scanning speeds and scanning pitchs, respectively. Results showed that when 0.54 J/mm ≤ laser line energy density (L) ≤ 0.76 J/mm in a single melt experiment, the effect of melt forming is relatively good. When the laser power (P)=200 W, scanning speed (v) = 280 mm/s, and scanning pitch = 0.12 mm, the blocks with a density of 99.99% could be obtained. Besides, the laser energy density-relative density relationship was obtained by fitting. The process research presented application and promotion value, providing important experimental data and technical support for achieving forming gradient functional materials.

Abstract

Abstract Timely and accurate identification of track foreign body intrusion is of great significance for maintaining the safety of railway running. Object detection technology based on deep learning can be used to judge the foreign body in the track running area. However, the general target detection technology cannot recognise the foreign object information in complex environment, which has a certain hysteresis. In this study, adaptive adjustment is made to the algorithm according to the limited area in the railway special scene. A new Recurrent Attention Convolutional Neural Network and adaptive particle swarm fusion network is proposed. Produced in the process of image classification and regional sampling information loss, by introducing attention study under the multi‐scale recursive fusion, each scale is a network of target recognition and attention network, starting from the full image, continuously put forward attention area, and as input to realise detection to the next dimension positioning; With the help of adaptive particle swarm optimisation algorithm, the feature information at different levels is fused, and the high‐attention region is generated by continuous recursive clipping from rough to fine, The mutual enhancement of target area detection and fine‐grained features is realised. Experiments conducted by the author in Railway data set showed that its target detection accuracy reached 84.2%. Compared with other existing models, the relative accuracy gain was 10.6% and 8.1%, respectively, and the maximum gain was 6.2% compared with the self‐ablation experiment.
