Abstract

Background +936C>T polymorphism of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the most investigated polymorphisms, it has been suggested that it plays a vital role in tumorigenesis. Intensive studies centering on the association between VEGF +936C>T polymorphism and lung cancer risk or lung cancer patients' overall survival were conducted in recent years, but with inconclusive and ambiguous results. Objective and methods We investigated whether VEGF +936C>T polymorphism influences lung cancer risk and lung cancer patients' overall survival (OS) using pooled odds ratios (ORs) and hazard ratios (HRs) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) under different genetic models. Results A total of 12 eligible studies were included. In the overall analysis, we didn't find any statistical evidence that +936C>T polymorphism was related to the risk of lung cancer in any genetic model. However, increased lung cancer risk was detected in adenocarcinoma subgroup (OR=1.532, 95%CI: 1.016-2.312, P=0.042). For an aggregate result of survival analysis, +936C>T polymorphism was linked to an unfavorable OS (HR=2.248, 95%CI: 1.257-4.017, P=0.006) under homozygous model (TT/CC).

Abstract

The article focuses on the study which examines the role of the recombinant ricin toxin binding (RTB) protein on the activation of macrophages and the effect of NF-kappa (ĸB) signaling pathway. The study analyzes the expression of the recombinant protein group. Results show that the expression is significantly higher compared to the contril (P<0.01) and demonstrated time and measurement dependence.

Abstract

The article offers information on the results of the study on the expression and purification of sika deer cellular prion protein specific fragment. It mentions that the gene of the sika deer cellular prion protein (dPrPc) specific fragment (dPrPc(67-699)) was magnified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with the use of a pair of specific primers and cloned into pGEX-6p-1 expression plasmid. It notes that the recombinan plasmid was transformed to Rosetta-gami (DE3) engineering bacteria.

19. Toxic effect of oral ricin on the mouse intestinal tract and immune organs.

Abstract

The article presents a study on the toxic effects of ricin on the gastrointestinal tract and immune organs of mice. Decrease in weight and relative weight of thymus and spleen of mice were observed in the first few toxication. Results show that ricin could cause pathologic reaction to intestines while splenocytes exhibited symptoms of apoptosis and cell death.
