We propose a novel framework based on the RuleFit method to estimate heterogeneous treatment effect in randomized clinical trials. The proposed method estimates a rule ensemble comprising a set of prognostic rules, a set of prescriptive rules, as well as the linear effects of the original predictor variables. The prescriptive rules provide an interpretable description of the heterogeneous treatment effect. By including a prognostic term in the proposed model, the selected rule is represented as an heterogeneous treatment effect that excludes other effects. We confirmed that the performance of the proposed method was equivalent to that of other ensemble learning methods through numerical simulations and demonstrated the interpretation of the proposed method using a real data application. Background. Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is frequently treated using a combination of counseling, drugs, and, more recently various transcranial stimulation protocols, but all require several weeks to months for clinically significant improvement, so there is a need for treatments with faster onset. This study investigated whether an accelerated high-dose theta burst stimulation (ahTBS) protocol significantly improves the efficacy of OCD compared to traditional 1-Hz repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in the routine clinical setting. Method. Forty-five patients with OCD were randomized into two groups and treated with ahTBS or 1-Hz rTMS for 5 days. Patients were assessed at baseline at the end of treatment using the Yale–Brown Obsessive–Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS). Results. After 5 days of treatment, there was a significant decrease in Y-BOCS scores in both groups (p < 0.001), and the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (group × time interaction, F = 1.90, p = 0.18). There was also no statistically significant difference in other secondary outcome indicators, including depression, anxiety symptoms, and response rate. However, the ahTBS group had a greater trend in response rate. Neuropsychological testing showed no negative cognitive side effects of either treatment. Conclusion. Accelerated high-dose TBS is as safe and has comparable short-term efficacy to traditional 1-Hz rTMS for the clinical treatment of OCD. Further research is needed to explore optimal ahTBS parameters, validate the utility of this treatment modality, and identify factors predictive of rapid clinical response to guide clinical decision-making. The increasing scientific attention given to precision medicine based on real‐world data has led to many recent studies clarifying the relationships between treatment effects and patient characteristics. However, this is challenging because of ubiquitous heterogeneity in the treatment effect for individuals and the real‐world data on their backgrounds being complex and noisy. Because of their flexibility, various machine learning (ML) methods have been proposed for estimating heterogeneous treatment effect (HTE). However, most ML methods incorporate black‐box models that hamper direct interpretation of the relationships between an individual's characteristics and treatment effects. This study proposes an ML method for estimating HTE based on the rule ensemble method RuleFit. The main advantages of RuleFit are interpretability and accuracy. However, HTEs are always defined in the potential outcome framework, and RuleFit cannot be applied directly. Thus, we modified RuleFit and proposed a method to estimate HTEs that directly interpret the relationships among the individuals' features from the model. Actual data from an HIV study, the ACTG 175 dataset, was used to illustrate the interpretation based on the ensemble of rules created by the proposed method. The numerical results confirm that the proposed method has high prediction accuracy compared to previous methods, indicating that the proposed method establishes an interpretable model with sufficient prediction accuracy. Background: β-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) is a key enzyme in the formation of amyloid-β (Aβ) protein. Increasing evidence suggests that BACE1 concentration is a potential biomarker for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Objective: To evaluate the correlations between plasma BACE1 concentration, cognition, and hippocampal volume at different stages of the AD continuum. Methods: Plasma BACE1 concentrations were measured in 32 patients with probable dementia due to AD (ADD), 48 patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due to AD, and 40 cognitively unimpaired (CU) individuals. Memory function was evaluated using the auditory verbal learning test (AVLT), and voxel-based morphometry was used to analyze bilateral hippocampal volumes. Correlation and mediation analyses were performed to investigate the associations between plasma BACE1 concentration, cognition, and hippocampal atrophy. Results: The MCI and ADD groups exhibited elevated BACE1 concentrations compared with the CU group after adjusting for age, sex, and apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype. Increased BACE1 concentration was found in AD continuum patients who were APOE ɛ4 carriers (p < 0.05). BACE1 concentration was negatively associated with the scores of the subitems of the AVLT and hippocampal volume (p < 0.05, false discovery rate correction) in the MCI group. Moreover, bilateral hippocampal volume mediated the relationship between BACE1 concentration and recognition in the MCI group. Conclusion: BACE1 expression increased in the AD continuum, and bilateral hippocampal volume mediated the effect of BACE1 concentration on memory function in patients with MCI. Background: The primary manifestations of Alzheimer's disease (AD) include cognitive decline and brain gray matter volume (GMV) atrophy. Recent studies have found that plasma phosphorylated-tau (p-tau) concentrations perform better in diagnosing, differentiating, and monitoring the progression of AD. However, the correlation between plasma p-tau, GMV, and cognition remains unclear. Objective: To investigate whether GMV plays a mediating role in the association between plasma p-tau concentrations and cognition. Methods: In total, 99 participants (47 patients with AD and 52 cognitively unimpaired [CU] individuals) were included. All participants underwent neuropsychological assessments, laboratory examinations, and magnetic resonance imaging scans. Plasma p-tau217 and p-tau181 concentrations were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Voxel-based morphometry was performed to assess participants' brain GMV. Partial correlation and mediation analyses were conducted in AD group. Results: Plasma p-tau concentrations were significantly higher in the AD group than in the CU group. Patients with AD had significant brain GMV atrophy in the right hippocampus, bilateral middle temporal gyrus, and right inferior temporal gyrus. In the AD group, there were significant correlations between plasma p-tau217 concentrations, GMV, and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores. Brain GMV of the right hippocampus mediated the association between plasma p-tau217 concentrations and MMSE scores. A significant correlation between plasma p-tau181 and MMSE scores was not identified. Conclusion: The findings indicate that p-tau217 is a promising biomarker for central processes affecting brain GMV and cognitive function. Summary: Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is characterized by early platelet destruction and impaired platelet production. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection seems to contribute to the pathogenesis in certain ITP patients in Japan. We compared the effectiveness of platelet transfusion in severe ITP in the presence or absence of H. pylori. The median corrected count increment (CCI) at 24 h after platelet transfusion (CCI‐24) of the H. pylori‐positive ITP patients was higher than that of the H. pylori‐negative ITP patients (6463 vs. 754, p < 0.001), and the CCI‐1 was also in the same direction but not significant (23 351 vs. 11 578). Multiple regression analyses showed that H. pylori infection was independently associated with CCI‐24. The relevance of pregestational body mass index (BMI) on adverse pregnancy outcomes remained unclear in Southwest China. This study aimed to investigate the overall and age-category specific association between pre-gestational BMI and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), preeclampsia, cesarean delivery, preterm delivery, stillbirth, macrosomia, and small-for-gestational age (SGA) or large-for-gestational age (LGA) neonates in Southwest China. Furthermore, it explores the relative importance of influence of pregravid BMI and maternal age on pregnancy outcomes. 51,125 Chinese singleton pregnant women were recruited as study subjects. Multiple logistic regression models were used to examine the influence of pre-pregnancy BMI on adverse pregnancy outcomes. Gradient boosting machine was used to evaluate the relative importance of influence of pregravid BMI and maternal age on pregnancy outcomes. It is found that women who were overweight or obese before pregnancy are at higher risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes except for SGA neonates, while pre-pregnancy underweight is a protective factor for GDM, preeclampsia, cesarean delivery, macrosomia and LGA, but not SGA. Younger mothers are more susceptible to GDM and macrosomia neonates, while older mothers are more prone to preeclampsia. Pre-pregnancy BMI has more influence on various pregnancy outcomes than maternal age. The CLAVATA3 (CLV3)/EMBRYO SURROUNDING REGION (ESR)–RELATED (CLE) gene family encodes a large number of polypeptide signaling molecules involved in the regulation of shoot apical meristem division and root and vascular bundle development in a variety of plants. CLE family genes encode important short peptide hormones; however, the functions of these signaling polypeptides in cotton remain largely unknown. In the current work, we studied the effects of the CLE family genes on growth and development in cotton. Based on the presence of a conserved CLE motif of 13 amino acids, 93 genes were characterized as GhCLE gene family members, and these were subcategorized into 7 groups. A preliminary analysis of the cotton CLE gene family indicated that the activity of its members tends to be conserved in terms of both the 13-residue conserved domain at the C-terminus and their subcellular localization pattern. Among the 14 tested genes, the ectopic overexpression of GhCLE5::GFP partially mimicked the phenotype of the clv3 mutant in Arabidopsis. GhCLE5 could affect the endogenous CLV3 in binding to the receptor complex, comprised of CLV1, CLV2, and CRN, in the yeast two-hybrid assay and split-luciferase assay. Silencing GhCLE5 in cotton caused a short seedling phenotype. Therefore, we concluded that the cotton GhCLE gene family is functionally conserved in apical shoot development regulation. Oxidative stress and inflammation are central in the pathophysiology of light-chain amyloid cardiomyopathy (AL-CM). High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL C) is an antioxidant and acts as an anti-inflammatory regulator. In this study, the prognostic value of serum HDL-C was explored in AL-CM. In this prospective single-center study, two hundred consecutive patients with biopsy-confirmed light-chain amyloidosis (AL) and cardiac involvement were enrolled. Patients were classified into low or normal serum HDL-C groups (HDL-C < 40 mg/dL and HDL-C ≥ 40 mg/dL, respectively). Univariate and multivariate Cox models were used to identify predictors of survival. Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to compare survival between patients with low or normal serum HDL-C. Patients with low serum HDL-C were more likely to present with higher levels of cardiac troponin-T (123.4 ng/L vs. 79.1 ng/L, p = 0.026) and higher levels of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (9146 pg/mL vs. 4945 pg/mL, p = 0.011). Patients were followed for a median follow-up period of 19 months, in which 118 (59%) patients died. The median overall survival times for patients with low or normal serum HDL-C were 7 and 16 months, respectively (p = 0.002). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that serum HDL-C (HR 0.984, 95% CI 0.973–0.994, p = 0.003) was independently associated with prognosis, after adjusting for nephrotic syndrome, hepatic involvement, nutritional state, renal function, SBP, DBP, serum uric acid, total cholesterol, Mayo AL 2004 stage, and treatment with chemotherapy. Purpose: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been found to regulate several human tumors. The present study was to explore the mechanism of hsa_circ_0087862 in regulating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: Totally 102 NSCLC cases were enrolled. NCI-H1359 and A549 cells were transfected. Cells viability, apoptosis, migration and invasion were determined by CCK-8 assay, flow cytometry, scratch test and transwell experiment, respectively. Luciferase reporter gene assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay were performed. Xenograft tumor experiments were performed using nude mice. hsa_circ_0087862, miR-1253 and RAB3D expression in tissues/cells were detected by qRT-PCR. RAB3D and Ki67 protein expressions in cells/tissues were researched by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. Apoptosis of xenograft tumor tissue cells was detected using Tunel assay. Results: hsa_circ_0087862 was significantly up-regulated in NSCLC patients, which was associated with poor prognosis (P < 0.05). hsa_circ_0087862 down-regulation prominently weakened NSCLC cells viability, migration, invasion and enhanced apoptosis (P < 0.01). hsa_circ_0087862 overexpression exhibited the opposite results in NSCLC cells. miR-1253 was sponged by hsa_circ_0087862. miR-1253 expression in NSCLC tissues was negatively correlated with hsa_circ_0087862 (P < 0.001). RAB3D expression in NSCLC was directly inhibited by miR-1253. miR-1253 down-regulation or RAB3D overexpression dramatically reversed NSCLC cells phenotype induced by hsa_circ_0087862 down-regulation. hsa_circ_0087862 down-regulation markedly inhibited tumor growth in vivo (P < 0.01). In xenograft tumor tissues, hsa_circ_0087862 down-regulation obviously decreased expression of RAB3D, Ki67 and increased apoptosis. The simple hydrothermal self‐assembly of metal ions, 5,5′‐(4,5‐dicarboxy‐1,2‐phenylene)bis(oxy)diisophthalic acid (L1'), and N2H4·H2O at pH = 8 (adjusted by oxalic acid) created two new acylhydrazinetetracarboxylate‐extended 3‐D Sr2+ and Ba2+ coordination polymers [Sr2(HL1)(H2O)] (H5L1 = 5,5′‐(1,4‐dioxo‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydrophthalazine‐6,7‐diyl)bis(oxy)diisophthalic acid) 1 and [Ba5(HL1)2(ox)(H2O)2]·6H2O·N2H4 (ox = oxalate) 2. H5L1 originated from the in situ acylation of L1′ with N2H4. X‐ray single‐crystal diffraction analysis reveals that (i) the 3‐D network of 1 is based on a rod‐like secondary building unit (SBU), which can be described as an alternate arrangement of two types of dinuclear Sr‐O clusters; (ii) the 3‐D network of 2 is also based on a rod‐like SBU. The different is that the SBU for 2 can be described as an alternate arrangement of a kind of trinuclear cluster and a kind of tetranuclear cluster. Both 1 and 2 emit blue light. With regard to their good photoluminescence properties, their trinitrophenol (TNP) sensing ability was investigated. The results indicate that both can selectively detect TNP. Ten previously undescribed bibenzyl derivatives (bletistrins A-J), including 5 that have hydroxyl-substituted chiral centres on the aliphatic bibenzyl bridge, along with twelve known bibenzyl derivatives, were isolated from the rhizomes of Bletilla striata. The structures of bletistrins A-J were primarily elucidated on the basis of their 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data. The absolute configurations of bletistrins A, D, F, H and I were determined by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopic analysis and optical rotation value. Most of the isolated compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activities against 3 g-positive bacterial strains and 1 g-negative bacterial strain. Bletistrins F, G, and J, bulbocol, shanciguol and shancigusin B showed inhibitory activities, with MICs of (3–28 μ g/mL) against S. aureus ATCC 6538. Through employing the hydrothermal in situ acylation of organic acids with N2H4, six L12−-based coordination polymers, [M(L1)(H2O)]·H2O (M2+ = Cd2+1, Zn2+2, Fe2+3, Mg2+4; H2L1 = 6,6′-(perfluoropropane-2,2-diyl)bis(2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-dione)), [Pb(L1)] 5, and [Er2(L1)2(ox)(H2O)2]·5H2O (ox = oxalate) 6, were obtained. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis reveals that (i) the L12−-based Cd2+, Zn2+, Fe2+ and Mg2+ coordination polymers are isostructural, and they possess a 2D single-layer network structure with a 44 topology; (ii) 5 possesses a 3D network structure, which is constructed from the dinuclear Pb2O812− clusters by the L12− molecules; (iii) 6 possesses a 2D double-layer network structure. Two 2D single-layer networks (the same as those in 1–4) are supported by ox to form this 2D double-layer network. 1D channels (428.9 Å3 for total potential solvent-accessible void volume) are observed in 6. 1, 2, 5 and 6 are found to emit blue light, corresponding to the L12−-centered electronic excitation. Based on the photoluminescence properties, their sensing ability towards the inorganic Cr2O72− anion was investigated. 5 exhibits the better sensing ability towards Cr2O72−. Background: T1 mapping allows quantitative assessment of "diffuse" deposition of amyloid protein in the myocardium. Early detection of cardiac involvement and potential prognostic improvement could benefit patients with AL amyloidosis. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the regional variation of amyloid infiltration in the left ventricle and the prognostic value of T1 mapping in patients with AL amyloidosis. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 77 patients with AL amyloidosis who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance on a 3.0-T scanner. Native T1 and extracellular volume (ECV) were quantitated on the basal, mid, and apical levels of the left ventricle. Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) pattern (no or non-specific LGE, sub-endocardial LGE, and transmural LGE) was also assessed. Forty healthy subjects served as controls. The primary end point was all-cause mortality. Results: Basal ECV (26.9 ± 2.8% versus 31.1 ± 4.9%, p <.001) were lower than apical ECV in the healthy controls; however, basal ECV (60.6 ± 11.5% versus 53.0 ± 9.6%, p =.003) were significantly higher than apical ECV in patients with transmural LGE. During the follow-up period (median duration, 28 months; 25th–75th percentile, 13.5–38.0 months), 46 patients died. Basal ECV has the largest area under the curve of 0.845 (95% CI, 0.747–0.917) to predict all-cause mortality. Multivariable Cox analysis indicated that basal ECV was an independent prognostic factor and showed incremental prognostic value beyond NYHA class, Mayo stage, and LGE pattern. Conclusion: We demonstrated that T1 mapping may have the potential to detect a characteristic amyloid deposition with a decreasing gradient from base to apex. Abstract By employing the hydrothermal in situ acylation of organic acid with N 2 H 4 , we constructed a new acylhydrazidate-based Zn2+ coordination polymer [Zn 2 (apo) 2 ]·H 2 O (H 2 (apo) = 4,5-diamino-1,2-dihydropyridazine-3,6-diol) 1. Interestingly, besides the acylation of 2,3-pyrazinedicarboxylic acid (pca) with N 2 H 4 , the breaking of partial C-(=)N bonds in the pyrazine ring also occurred, creating a new bridging-type acylhydrazide molecule H 2 (apo). In 1 , the apo2- molecules exhibit a μ 4 coordination mode, linking the tetrahedral Zn2+ centers into a 2-D layer network with a 44 topology. The photoluminescence analysis indicates that the title compound 1 emit the green light with the maximum at 490 nm upon excitation (λ ex = 380 nm, τ = 12.6 μs). Based on the better photoluminescence behavior of 1 , the sensing ability of 1 on nitroaromatic explosives and inorganic anions were investigated. The results suggest that 1 can selectively detect 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) and Cr 2 O 7 2-. This should be associated with the larger light adsorption at 380 nm for TNP and Cr 2 O 7 2-. The light adsorption at 380 nm for the other nitroaromatic explosives and inorganic anions is weak. Warburg effect is associated with the progression of various tumors, leading to the development of drugs targeting the phenomenon. PFKFB3 is an isoform of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase (PFK2) that modulates the Warburg effect and has been implicated in most common types of cancer, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the mechanisms underlying the upstream regulation of PFKFB3 in NSCLC remain poorly understood. This study reported that the transcription factor HOXD9 is upregulated in NSCLC patient samples relative to adjacent normal tissue. Elevated HOXD9 levels are primarily associated with poor prognosis in patients with NSCLC. Functionally, HOXD9 knockdown impaired the metastatic capacity of NSCLC cells, whereas its over-expression accelerated the metastasis and invasion of NSCLC cells in an orthotopic tumor mouse model. In addition, HOXD9 promoted metastasis by increasing cellular glycolysis. Further mechanistic studies revealed that HOXD9 directly binds to the promoter region of PFKFB3 to enhance its transcription. The recovery assay confirmed that the capability of HOXD9 to promote NSCLC cells metastasis was significantly weakened upon PFKFB3 inhibition. Evaporation is a critical process involved in energy and water balance at the Earth's surface and bears significant implications for water resource management, agricultural irrigation, and drought monitoring, among others. In this study, we focused on establishing a 1 km daily surface evaporation estimation for the Yangtze River Basin from 2010 to 2019 by using a machine learning method, and then analyzed its spatiotemporal patterns. The findings showed spatial heterogeneity in the Yangtze River Basin, indicating higher evaporation rates in the southwestern and southeastern regions in contrast to the western and northern areas. Additionally, the basin exhibited a strong spatial autocorrelation, indicating the influence of one spatial unit on the others. Furthermore, most regions in the basin displayed non-significant changes in surface evaporation, with some areas in the upper reaches exhibiting significant increases and a few regions near the source of the Yangtze River experiencing significant decreases. This study contributes to a better understanding of the spatial and temporal distribution of evaporation in the Yangtze River Basin, providing valuable insights for water resource management, environmental studies, and hydrological modeling in the region. Few studies have focused on right ventricular (RV) involvement in cardiac amyloidosis (CA). We investigated the prognostic value of RV assessment by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in CA. In 2011-2014, consecutive patients with suspected CA referred for CMR were retrospectively evaluated. Demographic and baseline clinical characteristics were collected. Healthy volunteers were matched for sex and age and served as controls. All subjects underwent a contrast-enhanced CMR examination. RV size, function, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) were analyzed. All deaths during follow-up were recorded. Sixty-one patients [37 males (60.7%), age 60 ± 11 years] were included; CA was diagnosed in 47 (77.0%) patients. CA patients displayed decreased biventricular ejection fraction, elevated left ventricular mass index, and increased biventricular end-systolic volume index (ESVi) compared with controls. A total of 27 deaths (57.4%) occurred in the CA group at 21-month median follow-up. Multivariable analysis demonstrated that RVESVi (HR 1.033, 95% CI 1.004-1.063, P = 0.026) and RV-LGE (HR 2.814, 95% CI 1.063-7.450, P = 0.037) were independent predictors of mortality in CA. For all amyloid patients, log NT-proBNP (HR 3.412; 95% CI 1.484-7.845; P = 0.004) and RV-LGE (HR 4.149; 95% CI 1.623-10.607; P = 0.003) were identified as independent predictors. Background: There is a paucity of quantitative measurements of cardiac tumors and myocardium using parametric mapping techniques. This study aims to explore quantitative characteristics and diagnostic performance of native T1, T2, and extracellular volume (ECV) values of cardiac tumors and left ventricular (LV) myocardium. Methods: Patients with suspected cardiac tumors who underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) between November 2013 and March 2021 were prospectively enrolled. The diagnoses of primary benign or malignant tumors were based on pathologic findings if available, comprehensive medical history evaluations, imaging, and long-term follow-up data. Patients with pseudo-tumors, cardiac metastasis, primary cardiac diseases, and prior radiotherapy or chemotherapy were excluded. Multiparametric mapping values were measured on both cardiac tumors and the LV myocardium. Statistical analyses were performed using independent-samples t-test, receiver operating characteristic, and Bland–Altman analyses. Results: A total of 80 patients diagnosed with benign (n = 54), or primary malignant cardiac tumors (n = 26), and 50 age and sex-matched healthy volunteers were included. Intergroup differences in the T1 and T2 values of cardiac tumors were not significant, however, patients with primary malignant cardiac tumors showed significantly higher mean myocardial T1 values (1360 ± 61.4 ms) compared with patients with benign tumors (1259.7 ± 46.2 ms), and normal controls (1206 ± 44.0 ms, all P < 0.05) at 3 T. Patients with primary malignant cardiac tumors also showed significantly higher mean ECV (34.6 ± 5.2%) compared with patients with benign (30.0 ± 2.5%) tumors, and normal controls (27.3 ± 3.0%, all P < 0.05). For the differentiation between primary malignant and benign cardiac tumors, the mean myocardial native T1 value showed the highest efficacy (AUC: 0.919, cutoff value: 1300 ms) compared with mean ECV (AUC: 0.817) and T2 (AUC: 0.619) values. Conclusion: Native T1 and T2 of cardiac tumors showed high heterogeneity, while myocardial native T1 values in primary malignant cardiac tumors were elevated compared to patients with benign cardiac tumors, which may serve as a new imaging marker for primary malignant cardiac tumors. Conventional and inverted thin CdS/CdTe-based solar cells are fabricated using thermal deposition techniques, and their performance under an external electric field is investigated. Results show that both positive and negative electric fields can change the performance of the developed solar cells and that the latter recover to their initial state after switching the external electric field off. Heat treatment experiments confirm the negligible impact of the temperature on the solar cell performance. Transient photocurrent experiments show that the carrier transfer efficiency is modulated directly by an external electric field. By taking into account the CdS nanodipole, the effect of an external electric field on the solar cell performance can be well explained. The results presented in this paper open the way toward the realization of solar cells through carrier separation by an electric field provided by the CdS nanodipoles rather than the solar cell junction. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to extend the bridge scale method (BSM) developed for granular materials with only the solid phase to that taking into account the effects of wetting process in porous continuum. The granular material is modeled as partially saturated porous Cosserat continuum and discrete particle assembly in the coarse and fine scales, respectively. Design/methodology/approach – Based on the mass and momentum conservation laws for the three phases, i.e. the solid skeleton, the pore water and the pore air, the governing equations for the unsaturated porous Biot-Cosserat continuum model in the coarse scale are derived. In light of the passive air pressure assumption, a reduced finite element model for the model is proposed. According to the decoupling of the fine and coarse scale calculations in the BSM, the unsaturated porous Cosserat continuum model using the finite element method and the discrete element model using the discrete element method for granular media are combined. Findings – The numerical results for a 2D example problem of slope stability subjected to increasing rainfall along with mechanical loading demonstrate the applicability and performance of the present BSM. The microscopic mechanisms of macroscopic shear band developed in the slope are demonstrated. Research limitations/implications – Do not account for yet the effects of unsaturated pore water in the fine scale. Originality/value – The novel BSM that couples the Biot-Cosserat porous continuum modeling and the discrete particle assembly modeling in both coarse and fine scales, respectively, is proposed to provide a micro-macro discrete-continuum two-scale modeling approach for numerical simulations of the hydro-mechanical coupling problems in unsaturated granular materials. Aims: High triglycerides (TG) and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) are cardiovascular risk factors. A positive correlation between elevated TG/HDL-C ratio and all-cause mortality and cardiovascular events exists in women. However, utility of TG to HDL-C ratio for prediction is unknown among acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods: Fasting lipid profiles, detailed demographic data, and clinical data were obtained at baseline from 416 patients with ACS after coronary revascularization. Subjects were stratified into three levels of TG/HDL-C. We constructed multivariate Cox-proportional hazard models for all-cause mortality over a median follow-up of 3 years using log TG to HDL-C ratio as a predictor variable and analyzing traditional cardiovascular risk factors. We constructed a logistic regression model for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) to prove that the TG/HDL-C ratio is a risk factor. Results: The subject’s mean age was 64 ± 11 years; 54.5% were hypertensive, 21.8% diabetic, and 61.0% current or prior smokers. TG/HDL-C ratio ranged from 0.27 to 14.33. During the follow-up period, there were 43 deaths. In multivariate Cox models after adjusting for age, smoking, hypertension, diabetes, and severity of angiographic coronary disease, patients in the highest tertile of ACS had a 5.32-fold increased risk of mortality compared with the lowest tertile. After adjusting for conventional coronary heart disease risk factors by the logistic regression model, the TG/HDL-C ratio was associated with MACEs. An aqueous suspension of native potato starch (PS)/xanthan gum (XG) mixture was subjected to physical treatments, including critical melting (mild heating, MH; partial gelatinization, PG) and freeze-thawing (FT) treatments. The Physical treatments significantly changed the morphology, pasting, and structural characteristics of potato starch compared with the simple aqueous blending of PS and XG. Microscopy revealed that the starch granules partially melted and some of the melted granules aggregated into a cluster after critical melting and FT treatment. The overall intensity of X-ray diffraction peaks and relative crystallinity also decreased obviously after treatment, indicating partial disruption of the starch inner structure. Both XG addition and physical treatment decreased the solubility index, swelling power, and water holding capacity of starch after physical treatments. Moreover, the final viscosity (from 2988 to about 5000 mPa s) and shear stability (from 3542 to about 200 mPa s) of starch paste were substantially increased by the physical treatments. The critical melting caused the leaching of soluble starch, which induced the formation of starch/XG aggregate matrix attached to the surface of starch granules during FT treatment, contributing to the starch property modification. While the formation of these matrices might also be the reason for the increased thickness of the starch semi-crystalline lamellar structure. Background: Gestational weight gain (GWG) criteria recommended by the Institute of Medicine may not be appropriate for Asians. Our aims are to investigate the association between GWG and adverse pregnancy outcomes, and to propose optimal total GWG and rates of GWG for Chinese women. Methods: Prospective data of 51,125 mother-child pairs from 27 hospitals and community health care centers from Guizhou, Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in China between 2014 and 2018 were analyzed. Generalized Additive Models were performed to determine the associations of GWG with the risk of aggregated adverse outcomes (gestational diabetes mellitus, preeclampsia, cesarean delivery, stillbirth, preterm birth, macrosomia, large for gestational age, and small for gestational age). The range that did not exceed a 2.5% increase from the lowest risk of aggregated adverse outcomes was defined as the optimal GWG range. Results: Among all participants, U-shaped prospective association was found between GWG and the risk of aggregated adverse pregnancy outcomes. The optimal GWG range of 8.2–13.0 kg was proposed for underweight, 7.3–12.5 kg for normal weight, and 2.0–9.4 kg for overweight/obese women. Meanwhile, a higher GWG rate in the first two trimesters than that in the last trimester was suggested, except for overweight/obese women. After stratified by maternal age, mothers ≥35 years were suggested to gain less weight compared to younger mothers. Conclusions: To keep a balance between maternal health and neonatal growth, optimal GWG ranges based on Asia-specific BMI categories was suggested for Chinese women with different pre-gravid BMIs and maternal ages. Background: Myocardial fibrosis is a common pathophysiological process involved in many cardiovascular diseases. However, limited prior studies suggested no association between focal myocardial fibrosis detected by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and disease severity in Eisenmenger syndrome (ES). This study aimed to explore potential associations between myocardial fibrosis evaluated by the CMR LGE and T1 mapping and risk stratification profiles including exercise tolerance, serum biomarkers, hemodynamics, and right ventricular (RV) function in these patients. Methods: Forty-five adults with ES and 30 healthy subjects were included. All subjects underwent a contrast-enhanced 3T CMR. Focal replacement fibrosis was visualized on LGE images. The locations of LGE were recorded. After excluding LGE in ventricular insertion point (VIP), ES patients were divided into myocardial LGE-positive (LGE+) and LGE-negative (LGE−) subgroups. Regions of interest in the septal myocardium were manually contoured in the T1 mapping images to determine the diffuse myocardial fibrosis. The relationships between myocardial fibrosis and 6-min walk test (6MWT), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro BNP), hematocrit, mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP), pulmonary vascular resistance index (PVRI), RV/left ventricular end-systolic volume (RV/LV ESV), RV ejection fraction (RVEF), and risk stratification were analyzed. Results: Myocardial LGE (excluding VIP) was common in ES (16/45, 35.6%), and often located in the septum (12/45, 26.7%). The clinical characteristics, hemodynamics, CMR morphology and function, and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) were similar in the LGE+ and LGE− groups (all P > 0.05). ECV was significantly higher in ES patients (28.6 ± 5.9% vs. 25.6 ± 2.2%, P < 0.05) and those with LGE− ES (28.3 ± 5.9% vs. 25.6 ± 2.2%, P < 0.05) than healthy controls. We found significant correlations between ECV and log NT-pro BNP, hematocrit, mPAP, PVRI, RV/LV ESV, and RVEF (all P < 0.05), and correlations trends between ECV and 6MWT (P = 0.06) in ES patients. An ECV threshold of 29.0% performed well in differentiating patients with high-risk ES from those with intermediate or low risk (area under curve 0.857, P < 0.001). Abstract: Based on the bridging scale method (BSM) initially presented in nano mechanics , a new version of the BSM that couples discrete particle assembly modeling using the discrete element method (DEM) and Cosserat continuum modeling using the finite element method (FEM) at both micro–macro scale levels respectively is proposed for multiscale analysis of granular materials. The DEM is only applied to the limited localized regions for accurately simulating discontinuous failure phenomena in microscopic scale, meantime, the FEM that costs much less computational time and storage space covers the whole domain, with permitting to adopt different time step sizes for the time integration schemes in coarse and fine scales respectively. As a consequence, both computational accuracy and efficiency of the proposed BSM are greatly enhanced. With a bridging scale displacement (including translations and rotations) decomposition and based on the virtual work principle applied to the FEM nodes of the Cosserat continuum and the particle centers of the discrete particle assembly respectively, two decoupling sets of equations of motion of the combined coarse–fine scale system are formulated. The interfacial condition between the coarse and fine scale regions in the quasi-static and dynamic loading cases are presented and discussed. The non-reflecting boundary condition and its implementation, which is capable of effectively eliminating spurious reflected waves at the interfaces between the coarse and fine scale regions, are described in detail. The numerical results for 2D example problems demonstrate the applicability and advantages of the present BSM, and the performances of the non-reflecting boundary condition implemented to simulate dynamical responses in geo-structures composed of granular materials. With increasing energy demand driving the need for eco-friendly and efficient energy storage technology, supercapacitors are becoming increasingly prevalent in wearable devices because of their portability and stability. The performance of these supercapacitors is highly dependent on the choice of electrode material. The high capacitance and mechanical properties needed for these materials can be achieved by combining graphene's stable electrical properties with renewable cellulose's excellent mechanical properties into porous aerogels. In this study, graphene-cellulose hydrogels were prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method, with porous, ultra-light, and mechanically strong graphene-cellulose aerogels then prepared by freeze-drying. These composite aerogels possess excellent mechanical strength and high specific capacitance, capable of bearing about 1095 times the pressure of their own weight. Electrochemical tests show the specific capacitance of these composite aerogels can reach 202 F/g at a scanning rate of 5 mA/cm2. In view of their high surface area and fast charge transport provided by their 3D porous structure, graphene-cellulose aerogels have great potential as sustainable supercapacitor electrodes. Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily and a major regulatory factor in osteoclast development. OPG has been previously associated with the malignant behavior of various types of cancer, particularly that of cancer metastasis. However, information on the link between the expression profile of OPG and lung cancer metastasis remained elusive. In the present study, the expression levels of OPG in the serum samples of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was measured using ELISA. The expression of miRNAs was assessed using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. A549 or H3122 cell invasion was assessed using Transwell invasion assays. The effect of OPG on the invasiveness of lung cancer cells was evaluated using an experimental mouse lung metastasis model. OPG expression was found to be upregulated in the serum of patients with NSCLC compared with that in healthy individuals. The serum levels of OPG in patients with distant metastasis were observably higher compared with those in patients without metastasis. Functionally, overexpression of OPG in NSCLC cells markedly promoted cell invasion. Mechanistically, increased expression of OPG resulted in upregulation of microRNA (miR)-20a in NSCLC cells. Furthermore, miR-20a promoted NSCLC cell invasion, whilst miR-20a inhibition partially abrogated the effect of OPG on NSCLC cell invasion. Taken together, the present results demonstrated that the OPG/miR-20a axis serve an important role in lung cancer metastasis, which potentially provide an additional novel target for lung cancer treatment. Cell division is a fundamental biological process sharing conserved features and controls in all eukaryotes. The cell cycle is usually divided into four phases: G1, S, G2, and M. Regulated gene expression is an important mechanism for controlling cell cycle progression and genes involved in cell division-related processes often show transcriptional regulation dependent on cell cycle position. In the present report, a novel cell cycle-related gene (AtCPR) from Arabidopsis thaliana was isolated and characterized. Sequence analysis revealed that the deduced amino acid sequence of AtCPR showed 53.2% identity with p38-2G4, a mouse G1-to-S cell cycle specifically modulated and proliferation-associated nuclear protein. Assay of expression of AtCPR in partially synchronized cells suggested that AtCPR mRNA was expressed in the G1-to-S phase. In the AtCPR transgenic plants, no apparent phenotypic change was observed. By fusing a GFP tag to the AtCPR protein, it was found that AtCPR was mainly located in the nucleus. Environmental stresses, such as salinity, drought and cold, can induce the expression of a large amount of genes. Among these are many transcription factors that regulate the expression of downstream genes by specifically binding to cis-elements or forming transcriptional complexes with other proteins. In the present study, a DREB-like transcription factor gene, named AhDREB1, was isolated from a halophyte Atriplex hortensis. AhDREB1 encoded a protein containing a conserved EREBP/AP2 domain featuring the DREB family. In yeast one-hybrid analysis AhDREB1 protein was specifically bound to DRE elements and activated the expression of the reporter genes of HIS3 and LacZ. The AhDREB1 gene was expressed in roots, stems and leaves of A. hortensis. Salinity induced its expression in roots, but not in other organs. Overexpression of AhDREB1 in transgenic tobacco led to the accumulation of its putative downstream genes. The performance of the transgenic lines was also tested under stressed conditions and two lines were found to be stress-tolerant. These results suggest that the AhDREB1 protein functions as a DRE-binding transcription factor and play roles in the stress-tolerant response of A. hortensis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Our previous study showed that low protein (LP) diets can save protein sources and reduce nitrogen excretion without significantly impacting the growth performance of growing-finishing pigs. In the current study, sodium dichloroacetate (DCA) was used to explore whether it could work like a metabolic modulator to improve glucose and lipid oxidation in pigs fed with an LP diet, whilst glucose (GLUC) was used to evaluate if it could act as pyruvate, which is a metabolic fuel. In particular, we investigated the effects of LP diets supplemented with DCA and GLUC on metabolic responses and intestinal microbiota of finishing pigs. Our findings showed that DCA and GLUC supplementation improved the hepatic lipid metabolism but had limited effects on improving colonic microbiota profile of finishing pigs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of low-protein (LP) diets supplemented with sodium dichloroacetate (DCA) and glucose (GLUC) on metabolic markers and intestinal microbiota of finishing pigs. A total of 80 crossbred growing barrows were allocated randomly to one of the five treatments, including the normal protein level diet (CON), the LP diets, LP with 120 mg/kg DCA (LP + DCA) or 1.8% glucose (LP + GLUC), and LP with 120 mg/kg DCA and 1.8% glucose (LP + DCA + GLUC). The LP diet increased the plasma HDL, triglyceride, and cholesterol concentrations and reduced the bile acid, urea nitrogen, albumin, and total protein concentrations compared to the CON diet (p < 0.05). The LP + DCA + GLUC diet reduced the plasma VLDL, triglyceride, and cholesterol concentrations and increased the bile acid concentration compared with the LP diet (p < 0.05). Pigs fed the LP + DCA and LP + GLUC diets showed reduced 3-Hydroxy-3-Methylglutaryl-CoA Reductase content and increased Cytochrome P450 Family 7 Subfamily A Member 1 activity of liver compared that of the CON diet (p < 0.05). Moreover, the LP diets with or without DCA and GLUC supplementation increased the relative abundance of colonic microbiota related to carbohydrate fermentation in finishing pigs. In conclusion, 120 mg/kg DCA or 1.8% GLUC supplementation in an LP diet modulated the hepatic lipid metabolism of pigs, while the DCA along with GLUC supplementation likely improved the lipid metabolism by stimulating bile acid secretion. Background: The hippocampus consists of histologically and functionally distinct subfields, which shows differential vulnerabilities to Alzheimer's disease (AD)-associated pathological changes. Objective: To investigate the atrophy patterns of the main hippocampal subfields in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and AD and the relationships among the hippocampal subfield volumes, plasma biomarkers and cognitive performance. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 119 patients stratified into three categories: normal cognition (CN; N = 40), MCI (N = 39), and AD (N = 40). AD-related plasma biomarkers were measured, including amyloid-β (Aβ)42, Aβ40, Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio, p-tau181, and p-tau217, and the hippocampal subfield volumes were calculated using automated segmentation and volumetric procedures implemented in FreeSurfer. Results: The subiculum body, cornu ammonis (CA) 1-head, CA1-body, CA4-body, molecular_layer_HP-head, molecular_layer_HP-body, and GC-ML-DG-body volumes were smaller in the MCI group than in the CN group. The subiculum body and CA1-body volumes accurately distinguished MCI from CN (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.647–0.657). The subiculum-body, GC-ML-DG-body, CA4-body, and molecular_layer_HP-body volumes accurately distinguished AD from MCI (AUC = 0.822–0.833) and AD from CN (AUC = 0.903–0.905). The p-tau 217 level served as the best plasma indicator of AD and correlated with broader hippocampal subfield volumes. Moreover, mediation analysis demonstrated that the subiculum-body volume mediated the associations between the p-tau217 and p-tau181 levels, and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment and Auditory Verbal Learning Test recognition scores. Conclusions: Hippocampal subfields with distinctive atrophy patterns may mediate the effects of tau pathology on cognitive function. Summary Gene expression is regulated at multiple levels, including RNA processing and DNA methylation/demethylation. How these regulations are controlled remains unclear. Here, through analysis of a suppressor for the OsEIN2 over‐expressor, we identified an RNA recognition motif protein SUPPRESSOR OF EIN2 (SOE). SOE is localized in nuclear speckles and interacts with several components of the spliceosome. We find SOE associates with hundreds of targets and directly binds to a DNA glycosylase gene DNG701 pre‐mRNA for efficient splicing and stabilization, allowing for subsequent DNG701‐mediated DNA demethylation of the transgene promoter for proper gene expression. The V81M substitution in the suppressor mutant protein mSOE impaired its protein stability and binding activity to DNG701 pre‐mRNA, leading to transgene silencing. SOE mutation enhances grain size and yield. Haplotype analysis in c. 3000 rice accessions reveals that the haplotype 1 (Hap 1) promoter is associated with high 1000‐grain weight, and most of the japonica accessions, but not indica ones, have the Hap 1 elite allele. The construction of a high-precision geomagnetic map is a prerequisite for geomagnetic navigation and magnetic target-detection technology. The Kriging interpolation algorithm makes use of the variogram to perform linear unbiased and optimal estimation of unknown sample points. It has strong spatial autocorrelation and is one of the important methods for geomagnetic map construction. However, in a region with a complex geomagnetic field, the sparse geomagnetic survey lines make the ratio of line-spacing resolution to in-line resolution larger, and the survey line direction differs from the geomagnetic trend, which leads to a serious effect of geometric anisotropy and thus, reduces the interpolation accuracy of the geomagnetic maps. Therefore, this paper focuses on the problem of geometric anisotropy in the process of constructing a geomagnetic map with sparse data, analyzes the influence of sparse data on geometric anisotropy, deduces the formula of geometric anisotropy correction, and proposes a modified interpolation algorithm accounting for geometric anisotropy correction of variogram for sparse geomagnetic data. The results of several sets of simulations and measured data show that the proposed method has higher interpolation accuracy than the conventional spherical variogram model in a region where the geomagnetic anomaly gradient changes sharply, which provides an effective way to build a high-precision magnetic map of the complex geomagnetic field under the condition of sparse survey lines. To tackle the issue of inferior rate capability and cycle stability for MnO-based materials as a lithium-ion battery (LIB) anode, robust reduced graphene oxide (rGO) protected porous MnO nanoplates were constructed to relieve the pulverization and gradual aggregation during the conversion process. Such rGO protection and porous characteristics endowed MnO–rGO with excellent cycle stability and enhanced charge transfer kinetics. At 100 mA g−1, it exhibited superior rate capability as high as 1398.5 mA h g−1 and delivered a specific capacity of 726 mA h g−1 even at a current density of 1000 mA g−1. The porous MnO–rGO based cell exhibited thermal runaway at 204 °C, while the commercial graphite-based cell experienced thermal runaway at 197 °C, which demonstrated better safety performance. Background: Sleep disorders are prevalent among patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), and the APOE ε4 genotype is a key genetic risk factor for sporadic AD. However, the combined effect of the genotype and sleep disorders on cognitive decline remains uncertain. Methods: A total of 972 participants were drawn from the SILCODE cohort, comprising 655 without the ε4 allele (APOE−) and 317 with ε4 allele (APOE+). Data were collected, including neuropsychological assessments, sleep measurements, plasma biomarkers, and PET imaging. A Sleep Composite Index (SCI) was created, categorizing participants into high risk (Sleep+) and low risk (Sleep−). Results: Significant predictions of dementia risk associated with plasma p‐tau181, neurofilament light chain (NfL), and SCI. Individuals with both Sleep+ and APOE+ had a higher risk of dementia compared to those with Sleep‐. The Sleep+/APOE+ group had higher plasma NfL levels than the Sleep−/APOE− group. Similar trends emerged in plasma NfL levels among the Aβ PET‐positive subgroup. Plasma NfL levels explained 23% of the relationship between SCI and cognitive impairment. Conclusion: Our study highlights sleep disorder was associated with cognitive decline, with plasma NfL playing a partial mediating role. Background: The impact of the coexistence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in patients with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) on clinical profiles, myocardial fibrosis, and outcomes remain incompletely understood. Method: A total of 1152 patients diagnosed with non-ischemic DCM were prospectively enrolled from June 2012 to October 2021 and categorized into T2DM and non-T2DM groups. Clinical characteristics, cardiac function, and myocardial fibrosis evaluated by CMR were compared between the two groups. The primary endpoint included both all-cause mortality and heart transplantation. Cause of mortality was classified into heart failure death, sudden cardiac death, and non-cardiac death. Cox regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier analysis were performed to identify the association between T2DM and clinical outcomes. Propensity score matching (PSM) cohort including 438 patients was analyzed to reduce the bias from confounding covariates. Results: Among the 1152 included DCM patients, 155 (13%) patients had T2DM. Patients with T2DM were older (55 ± 12 vs. 47 ± 14 years, P < 0.001), had higher New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class (P = 0.003), higher prevalence of hypertension (37% vs. 21%, P < 0.001), atrial fibrillation (31% vs. 16%, P < 0.001), lower left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) (23 ± 9% vs. 27 ± 12%, P < 0.001), higher late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) presence (55% vs. 45%, P = 0.02), and significantly elevated native T1 (1323 ± 81ms vs. 1305 ± 73ms, P = 0.01) and extracellular volume fraction (ECV) (32.7 ± 6.3% vs. 31.3 ± 5.9%, P = 0.01) values. After a median follow-up of 38 months (interquartile range: 20–57 months), 239 patients reached primary endpoint. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients with T2DM had worse clinical outcomes compared with those without T2DM in the overall cohort (annual events rate: 10.2% vs. 5.7%, P < 0.001). T2DM was independently associated with an increased risk of primary endpoint in the overall (Hazard ratio [HR]: 1.61, 95% CI: 1.13–2.33, P = 0.01) and PSM (HR: 1.54, 95% CI: 1.05–2.24, P = 0.02) cohorts. Furthermore, T2DM was associated with a higher risk of heart failure death (P = 0.006) and non-cardiac death (P = 0.02), but not sudden cardiac death (P = 0.16). Conclusions: Patients with T2DM represented a more severe clinical profile and experienced more adverse outcomes compared to those without T2DM in a large DCM cohort. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of supplementing low-protein diets with sodium dichloroacetate (DCA) and glucose on growth performance, carcass traits, and meat quality of growing-finishing pigs. A total of 80 crossbred (Duroc × Landrace × Large White) growing barrows (27 ± 0.4 kg body weight) were allocated randomly to one of the five treatments during three successive 4-wk periods. There were five diets in each phase. Diet 1 was the control diet with normal protein levels (CON) where protein levels in the three phases were 18%, 16.5%, and 15.5%, respectively. The dietary protein levels of Diets 2, 3, 4, and 5 (the low-protein diets, LP) were decreased by 4.5% compared to Diet 1. Additionally, Diets 3 and 4 were supplemented with an extra 120 mg/kg DCA (LP + DCA) or 1.8% glucose (LP + GLUC), respectively. Diet 5 was further supplemented with an extra 120 mg/kg DCA and 1.8% glucose (LP + DCA + GLUC). The LP + DCA diet increased the average daily weight gain of pigs compared to the CON and LP diet in phase 3 and the overall experimental period (P < 0.001). The LP diet reduced the gain:feed ratios of the pigs compared to the CON, LP + DCA, and LP + DCA + GLUC diets in phase 1 and the overall experimental period (P < 0.001). Furthermore, gain:feed ratios in LP + DCA and LP + DCA + GLUC groups did not differ from that of the CON group (P > 0.10). Pigs fed the LP + DCA diet had higher pH values of meat at 24 h post-mortem than the CON group (P < 0.05). The LP + DCA + GLUC diet increased the total protein content in the longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle of pigs, compared to the other dietary treatments (P < 0.05), and increased the Arg and Leu contents in the LD muscle compared to the LP + DCA diet (P < 0.05). Moreover, the LP + DCA diet induced a higher C18:1n9t percentage in the LD muscle of pigs compared to other groups (P < 0.05). In conclusion, an LP diet reduced the feed efficiency in pigs and barely affected meat quality, whereas 120 mg/kg DCA supplementation in an LP diet improved the growth performance of growing-finishing pigs, showed modest effects on carcass traits, and improved the muscle protein content with the addition of glucose. To establish a scoring algorithm based on cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) parameters for differentiating between benign and malignant cardiac tumors and for predicting outcome. Patients referred for CMR for suspected cardiac tumors were prospectively enrolled. Tumors were categorized as benign or malignant based on pathology, imaging, and clinical information. The CMR protocol included cine, T1-weighted, T2-weighted, first-pass perfusion, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) sequences. Variables independently associated with malignancy in the multivariable logistic analysis were used to construct the scoring algorithm, and receiver operating characteristic analyses were used to assess the ability to discriminate malignant from benign tumors. The ability of the score to predict outcome (all-cause mortality) was also assessed by Kaplan–Meier survival analysis. Among the 105 enrolled patients, 74 had benign and 31 had malignant tumors. In multivariable analysis, the independent predictors of malignant tumors were invasiveness (odds ratio, OR = 11.4, 2 points), irregular border (OR = 5.8, 1 point), and heterogenous LGE (OR 10.6, 2 points). The area under curves (AUC) of the scoring algorithm was 0.912 (cut-off score of 5) and showed significantly higher AUCs than individual variables (all P < 0.05) in differentiating benign and malignant tumors. After median follow-up of 18.2 months, mortality was significantly higher in patients with a score of 5 than in patients with score ≤ 4. The scoring algorithm based on CMR-detected invasiveness, irregularity of border, and heterogenous LGE is an effective method for differentiating malignant from benign cardiac tumors and for predicting outcome. Introduction: Insufficient nutrient intake is a strong independent predictor of mortality in elderly patients with heart failure. However, it is unclear to what extent energy intake affects their prognosis. This study investigated the association between patient outcomes and actual measured energy intake in elderly patients (≥65 years) with heart failure. Methods: This study enrolled 139 elderly patients who were hospitalized with worsening heart failure at Shingu Municipal Medical Center, Shingu, Japan, between May 2017 and April 2018. Energy intake was evaluated for three days (from three days prior to the day of discharge until the day of discharge). Based on basal energy expenditure calculated using the Harris–Benedict equation, the patients were classified into a low-energy group (n = 38) and a high-energy group (n = 101). We assessed the prognosis in terms of both all-cause mortality and readmission due to worsening heart failure as a primary outcome. Results: Compared to the patients in the high-energy group, the patients in the low-energy group were predominantly female, less frequently had smoking habits and ischemic heart diseases, and had a higher left ventricular ejection fraction. The low-energy group had higher mortality than the high-energy group (p = 0.028), although the two groups showed equivalent event rates of the primary outcome (p = 0.569). Conclusion: Calculations based on the Harris–Benedict equation revealed no significant difference in the primary outcome between the two groups, with a secondary outcome that showed worse mortality in the low-energy group. Given this result, energy requirement-based assessments using the Harris–Benedict equation might help in the management of elderly heart failure patients in terms of improved life outcomes. Background: Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) manifest as systematic muscle involvement. Multiparametric cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) could be a useful technique to detect systemic involvement and disease progression in IIM patients. This study aimed to describe the tissue characteristics and dynamic changes in myocardial and skeletal muscles after treatment in IIM patients. Methods: Forty-four consecutively recruited IIM patients (49.0 ± 12.0 years; 22 males) underwent 3 T CMR at first diagnosis, and 28 patients underwent follow-up scan after receiving standard treatment for more than 1 year. Thirty age- and sex-matched healthy subjects served as controls. The CMR protocol included: cines, T2-weighted (T2w), late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), T1 and T2 mapping, and extracellular volume (ECV) evaluated for the myocardium, and T1 and T2 mapping and ECV evaluated for skeletal muscles. Correlations between laboratory biomarkers and myocardial and skeletal tissue characteristics were analyzed. Comparisons between baseline and follow-up scans were performed using paired t-tests. Results: At baseline, IIM patients showed significantly decreased hematocrit, higher left ventricular (LV) mass index, right ventricular (RV) volume index, myocardial and skeletal native T1, T2 mapping, and ECV than healthy controls. Significant correlations were found among myocardial native T1, T2 mapping, and ECV values and N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels, and significant correlations between skeletal T2 mapping and inflammatory biomarkers in IIM patients. During the follow-up, 28 patients underwent repeated CMR scan (median interval, 14.5 months, interquartile range: 13.2–15.5 months). Significant relief from clinical symptoms and decreased inflammatory biomarkers levels were observed. Significant reduction in myocardial native T1, T2, ECV, and skeletal native T1, T2, and ECV were observed during the follow-up assessment. Conclusions: Both myocardial and skeletal muscles in newly diagnosed IIM patients show distinct characteristics on multiparametric CMR. In addition, significant changes were observed in patients showing clinical remission after effective treatment, which suggests that quantitative T1, T2, and ECV techniques may have potential clinical value in IIM patients. Seed weight is usually associated with seed size and is one of the important agronomic traits that determine yield. Understanding of seed weight control is limited, especially in soybean plants. Here we show that Glycine max JASMONATE‐ZIM DOMAIN 3 (GmJAZ3), a gene identified through gene co‐expression network analysis, regulates seed‐related traits in soybean. Overexpression of GmJAZ3 promotes seed size/weight and other organ sizes in stable transgenic soybean plants likely by increasing cell proliferation. GmJAZ3 interacted with both G. max RESPONSE REGULATOR 18a (GmRR18a) and GmMYC2a to inhibit their transcriptional activation of cytokinin oxidase gene G. max CYTOKININ OXIDASE 3‐4 (GmCKX3‐4), which usually affects seed traits. Meanwhile, the GmRR18a binds to the promoter of GmMYC2a and activates GmMYC2a gene expression. In GmJAZ3‐overexpressing soybean seeds, the protein contents were increased while the fatty acid contents were reduced compared to those in the control seeds, indicating that the GmJAZ3 affects seed size/weight and compositions. Natural variation in JAZ3 promoter region was further analyzed and Hap3 promoter correlates with higher promoter activity, higher gene expression and higher seed weight. The Hap3 promoter may be selected and fixed during soybean domestication. JAZ3 orthologs from other plants/crops may also control seed size and weight. Taken together, our study reveals a novel molecular module GmJAZ3‐GmRR18a/GmMYC2a‐GmCKXs for seed size and weight control, providing promising targets during soybean molecular breeding for better seed traits. Leukemia is a hematologic malignancy with poor prognosis in humans and chemotherapy is the main strategy for treating leukemia patients. Novel drugs with better selectivity and lower toxicity are required for the treatment of patients. A novel 3’,5’-diprenylated chalcone, (E)-1-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-3,5-diprenyl) phenyl-3-(3- pyridinyl)-propene-1-one ( C10 ) is a potential new anti-leukemia agent. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms of the anti-leukemia effects of C10 on different leukemia cells in vitro . C10 showed strong inhibition of proliferation of the human erythroleukemia cell line HEL and human myeloid leukemia cell line K562, and several cell and flow cytometer assays showed that inhibition by C10 was due to the regulation of gene expression or phosphorylation in the apoptosis and autophagy pathways. The results showed that C10 regulated the expression of Bax, c-Myc, Bcl-2, P38/AMPK and ERK 1/2, activated the expression of Caspase-3, -8, and PARP at the protein level in the apoptosis pathway of the two leukemia cell types, and inhibited the expression of erythroleukemia carcinogene Fli-1 in the human erythroleukemia cell line HEL. Additionally,treatment with the compound induced a time-dependent increase in expression of LC 3A/B via inhibiting the AKT-mTOR pathway, which is associated with cell autophagy. Abiotic stress is one of the most important factors reducing soybean yield. It is essential to identify regulatory factors contributing to stress responses. A previous study found that the tandem CCCH zinc‐finger protein GmZF351 is an oil level regulator. In this study, we discovered that the GmZF351 gene is induced by stress and that the overexpression of GmZF351 confers stress tolerance to transgenic soybean. GmZF351 directly regulates the expression of GmCIPK9 and GmSnRK, leading to stomata closing, by binding to their promoter regions, which carry two CT(G/C)(T/A)AA elements. Stress induction of GmZF351 is mediated through reduction in the H3K27me3 level at the GmZF351 locus. Two JMJ30‐demethylase‐like genes, GmJMJ30‐1 and GmJMJ30‐2, are involved in this demethylation process. Overexpression of GmJMJ30‐1/2 in transgenic hairy roots enhances GmZF351 expression mediated by histone demethylation and confers stress tolerance to soybean. Yield‐related agronomic traits were evaluated in stable GmZF351‐transgenic plants under mild drought stress conditions. Our study reveals a new mode of GmJMJ30‐GmZF351 action in stress tolerance, in addition to that of GmZF351 in oil accumulation. Background: The histological features and radiological shape of extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (eCCA) have not been widely studied in relation to prognosis. Multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) is thought to be useful in diagnosis of progress and tumor distribution; it can also show morphological differences (round, triangular, and square forms) at the tumoral obstruction sites. Histological types of eCCA may be revealed, with potential association with tumor growth and survival. Methods: We examined the distribution of tumor radiological shape subtypes on MDCT. The surgical outcomes of consecutive patients with eCCA who underwent macroscopic curative resection were reviewed. Results: CT subtypes in 109 patients were 62 triangular, 35 square, and 12 round. There were clear prognostic differences in long-term survival rates (P < 0.001); 5-year survival rates were 100% in round, 64% in triangular, and 19% in square types. There was no recurrence in any cases of round-type tumor at the site of obstruction. Depth of tumor invasion and rates of nodal involvement were significantly higher in triangular and square-type tumors than in round-type tumors. In papillary adenocarcinoma, radiological obstructions were round type in seven patients (78%) and triangular type in two patients (22%). In tubular adenocarcinoma, all round-type tumors were well differentiated, the ratio of square-type tumors increasing as the degree of differentiation decreased from "well" to "moderate," and "poor" respectively (23%, 39%, 57%; P = 0.033). Conclusions: Tumor radiological shape predicts tumor progression, histological type, and survival in eCCA. This information may be helpful in preoperative radiological staging on MDCT. Cerebral specialization is an important functional architecture of the human brain. Abnormal cerebral specialization may be the underlying pathogenesis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) was used to show that the specialization pattern of OCD was of great significance for early warning and precise intervention of the disease. The autonomy index (AI) based on the rs-fMRI was calculated to compare brain specializations between 80 OCD patients and 81 matched healthy controls (HCs). In addition, we also correlated the AI alteration patterns with neurotransmitter receptor/transporter densities. OCD patients showed increased AI in the right insula and right superior temporal gyrus when compared with HCs. In addition, AI differences were associated with serotonin receptors (5-HT 1A R and 5HT 4 R), dopamine D2 receptors, norepinephrine transporters, and metabotropic glutamate receptor densities.
