1. Monolayer Colloidal Crystals by Modified Air-Water Interface Self-Assembly Approach

Abstract

Hexagonally ordered arrays of polystyrene (PS) microspheres were prepared by a modified air-water self-assembly method. A detailed analysis of the air-water interface self-assembly process was conducted. Several parameters affect the quality of the monolayer colloidal crystals, i.e., the colloidal microsphere concentration on the latex, the surfactant concentration, the polystyrene microsphere diameter, the microsphere polydispersity, and the degree of sphericity of polystyrene microspheres. An abrupt change in surface tension was used to improve the quality of the monolayer colloidal crystal. Three typical microstructures, i.e., a cone, a pillar, and a binary structure were prepared by reactive-ion etching using a high-quality colloidal crystal mask. This study provides insight into the production of microsphere templates with flexible structures for large-area patterned materials.

Abstract

This assay analyzes the docking of BLRU for the SG-Ⅲ Laser Facility, where centering and collision issues are pointed out as the key technologies for BLRU docking monitoring. The centering technology mainly transforms the three-dimensional problem into two-dimensional one, adopting the characteristic of machine version capturing to analyze the position and posture of BLRU. The collision monitoring technology mainly takes advantage of the principle that power is generated in the collision during the process of assembly and calibration. Monitoring the forces from each direction, the degree of indirect response to the collision, returning feedback to the docking platform after measurement data is analyzed, and amending the docking trajectory of the BLRU in time can achieve the light collision docking during the full process of BLRU.

Abstract

Operation of two-dimensional Power Spectral Density (2-D PSD) of large optics wavefront is briefly described and PSD collapse is introduced to evaluate the intermediate frequency error property of wavefront. As PSD collapse is Radon transform projection of 2-D Power Spectral Density at any angle, all valid data of wavefront of optics are used in calculation of the PSD collapse and the features of 1-D PSD were inherited in PSD collapse. Although PSD collapse is as same as 1-D PSD in unit and behavior style, it is better for evaluating intermediate frequency error property of optics wavefront than 1-D PSD or 2-D PSD. As PSD collapse calculation uses all valid data of evaluated optics wave front and can be directly perceived through its profile, the PSD collapse may possibly be the standard evaluating method of PSD.

Abstract

A theoretical study for femtosecond laser-induced ultrafast electro-absorption of bulk solids is presented. Our numerical results show that, in the case of low intensity of the pump laser where the interaction between the pump laser and solids is in the multi-photon regime, the energy band of solids can be approximately taken as a parabolic band and electro-absorption spectrums from the parabolic band and real band are nearly the same. While, in the case of high intensity where the interaction is in the tunneling regime, spectrums from the parabolic band and real band are quite different. The physical mechanism for the difference in the tunneling regime is found. We find that the non-parabolic parts of the real energy band and Bragger scattering of electrons near the first Brillouin zone boundaries, which are neglected in previous studies, strongly influence the electro-absorption spectrum in the tunneling regime. These two physical processes cause the difference of spectrums. Our theoretical results are in accordance with the experiment result. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Modulation caused by surface/subsurface contaminants is one of the important factors for laser-induced damage of fused silica. In this work, a three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (3D-FDTD) method is employed to simulate the electric field intensity distribution in the vicinity of particulate contaminants on fused silica surface. The simulated results reveal that the contaminant on both the input and output surfaces plays an important role in the electric field modulation of the incident laser. The influences of the shape, size, embedded depth, dielectric constant (εr), and the number of contaminant particles on the electric field distribution are discussed in detail.
