2. Ultrafast Active Water Pump Driven by Terahertz Electromagnetic Field

Abstract

The highly efficient, easy-to-implement, long-ranged and non-destructive way to realize active pumping has been still a great challenge. Here, using molecular dynamics simulations, terahertz electromagnetic wave (TEW) is firstly employed to stimulate an active pump for water transportation by biasedly irradiated in a (6,6) single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) under no external pressure gradient. It is found that an ultrafast conductivity (up to 9.5 /ns) through the pump around a characteristic frequency of 14 THz. The excellent pumping ability is attributed to the resonance coupling between the TEW and water molecules, in which water molecules can gain considerable energy continuously to break the binding of hydrogen bonds and the spatial symmetry. This proposed TEW-driven pump concept will offer a guide in polar molecule transport through artificial or biological nanochannels, particularly in a controllable, non-contact and large-scale process.

11. Determining Seebeck coefficient of heavily doped La:SrTiO3 from density functional calculations

Abstract

A new approach is developed to calculate temperature dependent Seebeck coefficient of heavily doped systems by using Boltzmann transport theory and electron density of states (DOS) obtained from density functional calculations. This approach is applied to heavily doped La:STO with DOS from tetrahedral method and Fermi energy using Fermi integrals. The calculated Seebeck coefficient agrees with the experimental data nearly quantitatively, which proved the accuracy of this approach. The influence of the Fermi energy and asymmetry of DOS on the Seebeck coefficient is analyzed., Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures

23. Quality analysis of silage maize of different varieties.

Abstract

In order to screen excellent silage maize varieties suitable for planting in Hebei Province, the basic nutrient composition, mineral element content, energy and related index of six varieties of silage maize in Hebei Province were detected by near-infrared spectroscopy technology, and the quality of six varieties of silage maize was comprehensively evaluated in combination with agronomic traits and biological yield. The results showed that there was no significant difference in agronomic traits among varieties (P>0.05). There was significant difference in biomass among varieties (P<0.05), and Jingke 932 was the highest. The ADF and NDF content of Jinzhu 100 and Dongke 301 were significantly lower than those of the other four varieties (P<0.05). There were significant differences in DM and CP content among varieties (P<0.05). The highest starch content of Jinzhu 100 was 32.3%, which was significantly different from other varieties (P<0.05). The difference of mineral element content among varieties was not significant (P>0.05). There was no significant difference in total digestible nutrients, NEL and NEG of silage maize among different varieties, with Jinzhu 100 and Dongke 301 being the highest, and the milk yield per ton of feed was significantly higher than that of other varieties (P<0.05). The experiment indicates that the near-infrared detection technology can meet the requirements of rapid and accurate determination of the nutritional components of silage maize. According to the analysis of comprehensive nutrient composition and emergy index, Jinzhu 100 and Dongke 301 are of good quality and can be popularized and planted as silage maize in Hebei Province. Abstract

The conventional Solid-state reaction (SSR) method was used to synthesize compositions of (Zn1−xAlx)O, with x varying from 0.005 to 0.05 respectively. The as-prepared compositions were sintered in the air as well as in an argon atmosphere at 1400 °C, and their phases, microstructures and thermoelectric properties were investigated. Single-phase ceramics were formed for the composition with x ≤ 0.02. However, some unknown phases (∆) developed along with the parent phases for x ≥ 0.01 due to an over solubility limit of Al in Zn sintered in the air atmosphere. The highest Power factor (PF) for both air and an argon atmosphere were obtained 8.886 × 10−4 WK−2 m−1 and 5.389 × 10−4 WK−2 m−1 while, the lowest electrical resistivity (ρ) for the composition with x = 0.02 i.e. (Zn0.98Al0.02)O were obtained 7.674 mΩ cm and 1.430 mΩ cm at 702 °C respectively. The PF obtained in the air sintered atmosphere for the composition with x = 0.02 is 1.648 times higher than for the same composition sintered in an argon atmosphere. The ρ for the composition with x = 0.02 sintered in an argon atmosphere is 4.6202 times lowered for the same composition (x = 0.02) sintered in the air atmosphere.

Abstract

Solid-state reaction (SSR) was used to synthesize samples of (Zn1–xInx)O, with x = 0.05, 0.02, 0.01, 0.005 and 0.00 respectively. All compositions were sintered in an argon atmosphere and their thermoelectric properties, phase constituents, and microstructures were investigated. Single-phase ceramic was formed for each composition with dense microstructure. In3+ doping lowered the electrical resistivity of ZnO and in the present study, lower value of electrical resistivity ρ ~ 1.884 mΩ·cm and highest power factor (P.F) ~ 4.660 × 10−4 WK−2 m−1 at 693.4 °C respectively are obtained for the composition with x = 0.02. The electrical resistivities (ρ) of all compositions were regulated. The tuned and regulated (ρ) are expected to be helpful for future thermoelectric devices.
