We propose the scheme of temporal double-slit interferometer to precisely measure the electric field of shaped intense femtosecond laser pulse directly, and apply it to control the electron tunneling wave packets in attosecond precision. By manipulating the spectra phase of the input femtosecond pulse in frequency domain, one single pulse is split into two sub-pulses whose waveform can be precisely controlled by adjusting the spectra phase. When the shaped pulse interacts with atoms, the two sub-pulses are analogous to the Young's double-slit in time domain. The interference pattern in the photoelectron momentum distribution can be used to precisely retrieve the peak electric field and the time delay between two sub-pulses. Based on the precise characterization of the shaped pulse, we demonstrate that the sub-cycle dynamics of electron can be controlled with attosecond precision. Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) provide a deep learning framework for numerically solving partial differential equations (PDEs), and have been widely used in a variety of PDE problems. However, there still remain some challenges in the application of PINNs: 1) the mechanism of PINNs is unsuitable (at least cannot be directly applied) to exploiting a small size of (usually very few) extra informative samples to refine the networks; and 2) the efficiency of training PINNs often becomes low for some complicated PDEs. In this paper, we propose the generative adversarial physics-informed neural network (GA-PINN), which integrates the generative adversarial (GA) mechanism with the structure of PINNs, to improve the performance of PINNs by exploiting only a small size of exact solutions to the PDEs. Inspired from the weighting strategy of the Adaboost method, we then introduce a point-weighting (PW) method to improve the training efficiency of PINNs, where the weight of each sample point is adaptively updated at each training iteration. The numerical experiments show that GA-PINNs outperform PINNs in many well-known PDEs and the PW method also improves the efficiency of training PINNs and GA-PINNs.

In this paper, we propose a novel free boundary problem to model the movement of single species with a range boundary. The spatial movement and birth/death processes of the species found within the range boundary are assumed to be governed by the classic Fisher-KPP reaction-diffusion equation, while the movement of a free boundary describing the range limit is assumed to be influenced by the weighted total population inside the range boundary and is described by an integro-differential equation. Our free boundary equation is a generalization of the classical Stefan problem that allows for nonlocal influences on the boundary movement so that range expansion and shrinkage are both possible. In this paper we prove that the new model is well posed and possesses steady state. We show that the spreading speed of the range boundary is smaller than that for the equivalent problem with a Stefan condition. This implies that the nonlocal effect of the weighted total population on the boundary movement slows down the spreading speed of the population. While the classical Stefan condition categorizes asymptotic behavior via a spreading-vanishing dichotomy, the new model extends this dichotomy to a spreading-balancing-vanishing trichotomy. We specifically analyze how habitat boundaries expand, balance or shrink. When the model is extended to have two free boundaries, we observe the steady state scenario, asymmetric shifts, or even boundaries moving synchronously in the same direction. These are newly discovered phenomena in the free boundary problems for animal movement.

We study ionization dynamics of aligned diatomic molecules N$_2$ in strong elliptical laser fields experimentally and theoretically. The alignment dependence of photoelectron momentum distributions (PMDs) of N$_2$ measured in experiments is highlighted with comparing to Ar measured synchronously. Our results show that the PMDs of N$_2$ depend strongly on the alignment of the molecule, relative to the main axis of the laser ellipse. In particular, the most-probable electron-emission angle which is often used in attosecond measurement, differs remarkably when changing the molecular alignment. We show that the interplay of two-center interference and tunneling when the electron goes through the laser-Coulomb-formed barrier, plays an important role in these phenomena. Tunnelling lies at the heart of quantum mechanics and is a fundamental process in attosecond science, molecular biology, and quantum devices. Whether tunnelling takes time and how a microscopic particle transits through a barrier have been debated since the early days of quantum mechanics. The time required for an electron to tunnel through an atomic potential barrier has been measured with attosecond angular streaking (attoclock), and a recent work on the hydrogen atom claimed that electron tunnelling is instantaneous. However, the time required for Rb atoms to tunnel through an optical potential barrier has been measured to be on the order of milliseconds with a recent Larmor clock measurement. The essence of electron and atom tunnelling is identical, but the reason for the contradictory conclusions remains unknown. Here, we demonstrate that the sub-barrier potential interaction is the root of the nonzero tunnelling delay time. We reveal that the wave-particle duality of a tunnelling electron must be fully taken into account when decoding the tunnelling delay time from the attoclock measurements. Based on energy-resolved attoclock measurements, we show that the tunnelling delay time of an electron ranges from 24 to 58 attoseconds, and the counterintuitive result that an electron with a lower energy may spend less time in the barrier is consistent with the velocity-dependent tunnelling time of atoms in Larmor clock measurements. Our results unify the tunnelling time of microscopic particles by highlighting the classically forbidden sub-barrier potential interactions of matter waves.

In this paper, a single population model with memory effect and the heterogeneity of the environment, equipped with the Neumann boundary, is considered. The global existence of a spatial nonhomogeneous steady state is proved by the method of upper and lower solutions, which is asymptotically stable for relatively small memorized diffusion. However, after the memorized diffusion rate exceeding a critical value, spatial inhomogeneous periodic solution can be generated through Hopf bifurcation, if the integral of intrinsic growth rate over the domain is negative. Such phenomenon will never happen, if only memorized diffusion or spatially heterogeneity is presented, and therefore must be induced by their joint effects. This indicates that the memorized diffusion will bring about spatial-temporal patterns in the overall hostile environment. When the integral of intrinsic growth rate over the domain is positive, it turns out that the steady state is still asymptotically stable. Finally, the possible dynamics of the model is also discussed, if the boundary condition is replaced by Dirichlet condition.

Elliptically polarized laser pulses (EPLPs) are widely applied in many fields of ultrafast sciences, but the ellipticity~($\varepsilon$) has never been in situ measured in the interaction zone of the laser focus. In this work, we propose and realize a robust scheme to retrieve the $\varepsilon$ by temporally overlapping two identical counter-rotating EPLPs. The combined linearly electric field is coherently controlled to ionize Xe atoms by varying the phase delay between the two EPLPs. The electron spectra of the above-threshold ionization and the ion yield are sensitively modulated by the phase delay. We demonstrate that these modulations can be used to accurately determine $\varepsilon$ of the EPLP. We show that the present method is highly reliable and is applicable in a wide range of laser parameters. The accurate retrieval of $\varepsilon$ offers a better characterization of a laser pulse, promising a more delicate and quantitative control of the sub-cycle dynamics in many strong field processes., Comment: Phys.
