Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of human mortality worldwide, characterized by its insidious onset, intricate and variable course, and poor prognosis. Early identification and active intervention of potentially critically ill patients is essential to improve their prognosis. Objective To conduct a scoping review of the research on early warning assessment tools for cardiovascular disease risk at home and abroad, summarize and analyze their assessment content and application, ultimately providing reference for the selection of appropriate early warning tools for cardiovascular disease patients in China. Methods CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, CBM, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, CINAHL, and Scopus were systematically searched from inception to May 2023. Two investigators independently screened literature and extracted data, analyzed in terms of assessment content, study subjects, validation method, reliability and validity, and predictive efficacy. Results A total of 16 papers were included, comprising 7 papers on the development and validation of assessment tools and 9 papers on the localized application of these tools, involving 20 early warning assessment tools for cardiovascular disease risk. The results of the analysis showed that each assessment tool contained 3 to 17 assessment items, with the most frequently mentioned items of age, systolic blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, heart rate, comorbidities, level of consciousness, and gender. The results of the reliability and validity tests for 2 papers indicated robust reliability and validity, while all other studies lacked reliability and validity evaluations. Ten papers reported the area under the curve (AUC), with values ranging from 0.550 to 0.926 9. Conclusion Diverse early warning assessment tools for cardiovascular disease risk are available, however, their overall quality remains to be improved and there is a lack of specific assessment tools. In the future, it is imperative to conduct further validations of the reliability and validity of the existing tools, and develop localized early warning assessment tools specialized for cardiovascular diseases considering the unique characteristics of the disease, which exhibit robust reliability and validity.

Storytelling is a well-established literary practice in language classrooms. However, approaches influencing its effectiveness and efficiency have rarely been investigated. This study compared the effects of three storytelling approaches on the vocabulary acquisition and response patterns of third-grade students of English as a foreign language (EFL). The storytelling approaches we considered are commonly used in schools, including storytelling alone (S), storytelling with word focus (S+W), and storytelling with activities (S+A). Our research comprised a three-week pilot study and a nine-week main study. For both studies, a pretest-posttest design involving a delayed test was used. Video recordings were also captured to facilitate the categorization of in-class response patterns. Results indicated that storytelling alone achieved the best performance. Vocabulary improvement with word focus or follow-up activities faded over the long term. The groups (S and S+W) which heard more stories generated more responses based on their own knowledge and life experience (as opposed to simply recalling facts) than did the group which completed more supplementary activities (S+A). This article provides both pedagogical implications and invitations for future empirical research.

This study unveils a tertiary EFL reading teacher's reader identity and its interconnectedness with her pedagogical decisions through narrative inquiry. Community of Practice was employed to elucidate the sources of this reading teacher's reader identity and the interplay between that and her teaching practice. Findings from the categorical content analysis show that this reading teacher's reader identity was projected through her strong passion towards reading. An interactive reading process that results in a better self-understanding is experienced through the reader's reflection on her readings. She reified her reader identity in her teaching practice by forming a readers club. Reader (teacher)-text-reader (student) interaction is thus the most salient feature of this readers club and serves as a mediator that connects the members. Along with this feature, her competence of synchronicity with students was observed in this experienced reading teacher. Pedagogical implications concerning teacher education are discussed.

The synthesis of the originally proposed structure of (±)-nicotlactone A, a potent antiviral lignan with three continuous chiral centers, is reported in 5 steps from methyl acrylate. The key steps of the synthesis included an In-catalyzed regioselective allylation and a Mn-catalyzed Mukaiyama hydration reaction. Our synthetic strategy also enabled us to get the other three epimers and investigate the structure–activity relationship. The NMR data of the synthesized compounds do not match that of the isolated sample, indicating that the structure of nicotlactone A remains to be reassigned. All the synthetic target compounds were evaluated for their anti-tobacco mosaic virus (anti-TMV) activity. Bioassay results indicated that (±)-8-demethylnicotlactone A displayed similar anti-TMV activity to the commercial agent ningnanmycin, thus being a promising candidate or lead compound for developing novel antiviral agents in crop protection. Based on the data from drilling, core samples, etc., taking the Lower Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation and the Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation shales as study target area, authors investigated the accumulation conditions of marine shale gas from the Lower Paleozoic in the south region of Sichuan Basin. The results indicate that the Qiongzhusi Formation and the Longmaxi Formation black shales in this region are mainly formed in shelf sedimentary facies. The study region features great organic-rich shale thickness, high organic abundance (average TOC >2%), Type I and II organic matter, high-over thermal evolution level, rich in brittle mineral, abundant in micro- and nanometer pores, and high gas content, which are in favor of the generation and enrichment of shale gas. Compared with the shales in North America, in which the shale gas has been explored and developed successfully, it is suggested that the Lower Paleozoic in the south region of Sichuan Basin has good accumulation conditions for shale gas. Therefore, the Qiongzhusi and Longmaxi Formations are considered as the practical targets for shale gas exploration, and their favourable areas of shale gas enrichment are also purposed. Vaccination strategies that can induce a broad spectrum immune response are important to enhance protection against SARS-CoV-2 variants. We conducted a randomized, double-blind and parallel controlled trial to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the bivalent (5×10 10 viral particles) and B.1.1.529 variant (5×10 10 viral particles) adenovirus type-5 (Ad5) vectored COVID-19 vaccines administrated via inhalation. 451 eligible subjects aged 18 years and older who had been vaccinated with three doses inactivated COVID-19 vaccines were randomly assigned to inhale one dose of either B.1.1.529 variant Ad5 vectored COVID-19 vaccine (Ad5-nCoVO-IH group, N=150), bivalent Ad5 vectored COVID-19 vaccine (Ad5-nCoV/O-IH group, N=151), or Ad5 vectored COVID-19 vaccine (5×10 10 viral particles; Ad5-nCoV-IH group, N=150). Adverse reactions reported by 37 (24.67%) participants in the Ad5-nCoVO-IH group, 28 (18.54%) in the Ad5-nCoV/O-IH group, and 26 (17.33%) in the Ad5-nCoV-IH group with mainly mild to moderate dry mouth, oropharyngeal pain, headache, myalgia, cough, fever and fatigue. No serious adverse events related to the vaccine were reported. Investigational vaccines were immunogenic, with significant difference in the GMTs of neutralizing antibodies against Omicron BA.1 between Ad5-nCoV/O-IH (43.70) and Ad5-nCoV-IH (29.25) at 28 days after vaccination (P=0.0238). The seroconversion rates of neutralizing antibodies against BA.1 in Ad5-nCoVO-IH, Ad5-nCoV/O-IH, and Ad5-nCoV-IH groups were 56.00%, 59.60% and 48.67% with no significant difference among the groups. Overall, the investigational vaccines were demonstrated to be safe and well tolerated in adults, and was highly effective in inducing mucosal immunities in addition to humoral and cellular immune responses defending against SARS-CoV-2 variants.Trial registration: Chictr.org identifier: ChiCTR2200063996.

Three-dimensional excitation emission matrix was applied to characterize the fluorescence properties of dissolved organic matter in various waters of Shilong coal-mining area. Fluorescence peak I (fulvic-like) and peak II (humic-like) were strong, while peak IV and peak V (protein-like) were weak or even undetected in some samples. Fluorescence peaks in various waters and different zones showed great difference in intensities and the fluorescence peaks in underground water tended to be much lower than those of surface waters. Furthermore, the fluorescence peaks of rivers and lakes were higher than those of mine drainage, and also the fluorescence peaks in coking zone and coal mining zone were higher than those in sewage-irrigated zone, or even much higher than those in farming zone. The reason may be that coal mining activities and coal industry can bring plenty of organic matter from coal to surroundings. Meanwhile, surface water would accept mine drainage, waste water of coal-washing and sewage from daily life easier than underground water, so surface water can be polluted seriously. Fluorescence peaks in waters from coal mining area are little influenced by pH of the water but can be influenced by the content of Ca2+ to water in some extent.
