Dual mixed starch/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) composite films were prepared by solution casting, in which corn starch, oxidized starch, and esterified starch were used as raw materials, glycerol and PVA as mix plasticizer, their appearances and transmittances were tested, and it was found that the mixed starch/PVA composite film with equal weight of corn starch and oxidized starch had good brightness, with the highest transmittance under ultraviolet, infrared, and visible light. The effect of corn starch content in mixed starch on the composite films were further investigated. The results showed that the mixed starch/PVA composite films had high light transmittance, and the visible light transmittance was higher than 55%. When the corn starch content is 30%, the mixed starch/PVA composite film has the highest tensile strength of 17.5 MPa. The moisture absorption rate of all starch/PVA composite films reached the equilibrium absorption rate after 40 h, and the mixed starch/PVA composite film with 30% corn starch content had the highest moisture absorption rate of 48.9%. Overall, the mixed starch/PVA composite film with 30% corn starch content had the best performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
