The Hefei Light Source-II (HLS-II) is a vacuum ultraviolet synchrotron light source. The Personnel Safety System (PSS) is the crucial part to protect staff and users from radiation damages. In order to share access control information and improve the reliability for HLS-II, the novel PSS is designed based on Siemens redundant PLC under EPICS environment which is composed by the safety interlock system, access control system and the radiation monitoring system. In this paper, a quad-slits interferometer using visible light is designed to measure the transverse beam size of Hefei Light Source-II (HLS-II). According to the beam parameters of the B7 source point, the preliminary simulation results are obtained by using the Synchrotron Radiation Workshop (SRW) code. Furthermore, the core parameters of the quad-slits components in the interferometer are optimized. Among, the optimum slits-separations of dH and dV are acquired to be 6.0 mm and 10.0 mm, respectively. In the previous experimental investigations and measurements using the radio-frequency (RF) phase modulation method to study the longitudinal beam characteristics of the Hefei Light Source-II (HLS-II), we found that the longitudinal bunch distributions under different modulation frequencies and amplitudes have great difference. In order to further explore island phenomenon and better understand beam motion associated with external RF phase modulation, the streak camera is exploited to effectively observe the longitudinal bunch profile and distribution in single-bunch filling mode. In addition, the dependence between island size, bunch dilution effect and modulation frequency are also discussed in detail. In this paper, the radio-frequency (RF) phase modulation method is exploited to investigate the variations in the transverse beam size and emittance at Hefei Light Source (HLS-II). Meanwhile, a certain quantitative analysis was performed on the stability and practicability of the beam transverse profile measurement systems. The experiments show that the RF phase modulation method can effectively explore the robustness and stability of beam transverse profile measurement systems over the range of 20.0-22.5 kHz, which is close to the first-harmonic of the synchrotron frequency. It is concluded that when the modulation amplitude of the external phase perturbation is less than 0.04 rad, this optical system can be capable of maintaining reliable and stable working status.
