PURPOSE: To investigate the changes of personality traits in patients with orthognathic surgery. METHODS: Thirty-six patients were enrolled in this study. All patients received orthognathic surgery between June 2008 and March 2009 in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Guanghua School of Stomatology, Sun Yat-sen University. The Sixteen Personality Factors Questionnaire made by Raymdond B.Cattel was used to evaluate the patients' personalities before and after operation. Statistical analyses were performed with Student's t test using SPSS 10.0 software package. RESULTS: Factor A (warmth), factor F (liveliness ) and factor L (paranoia) were increased in patients undergoing orthognathic surgery compared with the normal group (P<0.05). 3 months after surgery, the patients got significantly higher scores of factor A and factor L than before. CONCLUSIONS: The patients undergoing orthognathic surgery have the personalities of tongueless, solitary, cold, selfish,who like to stay in charmed circle with little communion, wild, fun loving, taking things as they come, having no particular interest in others, sensitive, over suspicious, haggling over every ounce and disregarding avail of others. Meanwhile, the patients asked the process and effect of operation time after time during the chat before surgery. Objective: To study the role of cytokines and lymphocyte subsets in the diagnosis, prognosis and efficacy evaluation of DLBCL patients, and the effects of Tislelizumab on immune function and cytokines in DLBCL patients., Methods: Twenty-three patients with newly diagnosed DLBCL were selected as DLBCL group and 34 patients with megaloblastic anemia as the control group. The levels of peripheral blood cytokines IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF- α and IFN-γ by ELISA method. The levels of peripheral blood CD3 + , CD4 + , CD8 + T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes and NK cells， the ratio of CD4 + /CD8 + were detected by flow cytometry. The levels of cytokins and lymphocyto subsets in DLBCL patients with different clinical data and different therapeutic effects were compared., Results: The levels of cytokines IL-2, IL-6 and IL-10 in DLBCL group were significantly higher than those in control group, but there was no significant correlation between cytokine levels and age and gender. The higher IPI score, higher Ann Arbor stage, B symptoms, higher β 2 -MG, LDH and CRP levels, IL-6 and IL-10 levels were significantly higher, and IL-4 was also significantly higher in patients with high LDH levels. Compared with the ineffective group, the levels of IL-6 and IL-10 were significantly lower and the level of CD4 + T cells and the ratio of CD4 + /CD8 + was significantly higher in the effective group before therapy. The levels of IL-6, IL-10 and B lymphocytes in the effective group decreased significantly after therapy compared to those before therapy. After 4 cycles of therapy, the level of IL-2 and the ratio of CD4 + /CD8 + in the Tislelizumab group were significantly higher than those in the non-Tislelizumab group, and the level of CD8 + T cells was significantly lower than that in the non-Tislelizumab group( P <0.05). The level of B lymphocytes in both the Tislelizumab group and the non-Tislelizumab group after therapy was significantly lower than that before therapy., Conclusion: The expression of cytokines and lymphocyte subsets in peripheral blood of patients with DLBCL is abnormal, which is related to the severity, prognosis and therapeutic effect of the disease. Tislelizumab can improve the immune function of patients with DLBCL by affecting cytokines and lymphocyte subsets and strengthen anti-tumor immunity.

Oral cancer is an aggressive disease with the propensity for local recurrence and distal metastasis in the head and neck region. Currently, cisplatin-based chemotherapy or concurrent radiochemotherapy is still the first choice to treat the advanced stage cancers, in particular, the unresectable tumours. Unfortunately, innate and acquired resistance to chemotherapy agent greatly limited its effectiveness and often led to treatment failure in these patients. Hence, it is urgent to clarify the mechanisms underlying the development of chemoresistance in patients with oral cancer. In this article, the current understandings on molecular mechanisms of chemoresistance in oral cancer were reviewed, including drug efflux, apoptosis, DNA damage and repair, epithelial mesenchymal transition, autophagy and miRNA.

Background: To explore a better balance between efficacy and complications, we respectively compared the clinical outcome of low-dose and high-dose rATG induction therapy with a control group in renal transplantations from March 2009 to March 2012., Material and Methods: 281 kidney transplant recipients were included in 3 groups. The low-dose group (n=39) received rATG 1 mg/kg on the first day and 0.5 mg/kg on the next consecutive 3 days post-transplantation. The high-dose group (n=30) received rATG 1 mg/kg for 6 days. The control group (n=212) received no induction therapy. All patients were treated with Prednisolone, Mycophenolate mofetil, cyclosporine A, or tacrolimus capsules. Acute rejection rates, renal function, CMV infection, patient survival, and the adverse effects of rATG were reviewed., Results: The acute rejection rate was significantly lower in the rATG group compared with the control group (low-dose 17.9% vs. control 35.4%, P=0.03, and high-dose 16.7% vs. control 35.4%, P=0.038). There was no statistically significant difference in 3-year survival and graft survival rates among the groups. Renal function early recovery was similar in the rATG and the control group. The CMV infection rate in the high-dose rATG group was higher than the low-dose rATG and the control group (p=0.037 and p=0.002, respectively). rATG induction therapy was associated with thrombocytopenia in our series, especially in the high-dose rATG group., Conclusions: Low-dose rATG induction may be superior to high-dose rATG induction therapy in renal transplantation.

Objective: To investigate the incidence of radiation-induced maxillary malignancy after radiotherapy for head and neck cancer., Methods: A total of 273 patients who suffered from osteoradionecrosis after radiotherapy for head and neck cancer were evaluated. Among them, 6 patients were presented with carcinoma and sarcoma arising from maxillary area after radiotherapy., Results: Radiation-induced maxillary cancers happened at a rate of 2.2% in the patients with osteoradionecrosis. There were no statistically significant differences in age, sex and the time interval between the radiotherapy and the cancer occurrence., Conclusions: Radiation-induced malignancy after radiotherapy for head and neck cancer is mainly located in maxilla, presenting as squamous cell carcinoma or sarcoma of the maxillary sinus.

Objective: To restore good occlusion and face profile, the orthognathic operation and orthodontics were used to correct the dento-maxillofacial deformities following the repair of cleft lip and palate., Methods: 21 patients (7 males and 14 females, mean age of 20.6 years) were included in this study. Their dento-maxillofacial deformities following the repair of cleft lip and palate have been corrected in our hospital since 1996. Of them, 17 patients received pre- and postoperative orthodontic treatments. 21 cases underwent the following surgical procedures: Le Fort I osteotomy in 7 cases, multisegmental Le Fort I osteotomy in 5 cases, Le Fort I osteotomy and bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) in 4 cases, Le Fort I osteotomy and mandibular body osteotomy in 2 cases, BSSRO and genioplasty in 2 cases, BSSRO in 1 case. Rigid internal fixation was used in all patients. After multisegmental Le Fort I osteotomy, the rigid fixed palatine splint was used for 6 approximately 8 weeks., Results: Osteotomy segments healed well in all cases without severe complications. 14 patients were followed-up for an average of 25.6 months. There was no evident relapse. 12 patients who received pre- and postoperative orthodontic treatments had satisfactory occlusion and face profile., Conclusions: Orthognathic operation combined with orthodontics can be used satisfactorily to correct the dento-maxillofacial deformities following cleft lip and palate repair.

Objective: To investigate the influence of hyperoxic fluid on the down-regulated proteins of intestinal mucosa in scalded rats, so as to provide a theoretical basis for the clinical use of hyperoxic fluid., Methods: Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats with 35% TBSA full-thickness scald were randomly divided into scald control (S, n = 6,with intraperitoneal fluid infusion after scalding), hyperoxic (H, n = 6, with hyperoxic fluid infusion after scalding) groups. Six rats without scald injury served as normal group. The proteins in the intestinal mucosa were separated with the two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE), and were analyzed with ImageMaster 2D Elite. The influence of hyperoxic fluid on the down-regulated proteins of intestinal mucosa in scalded rats was studied with bio-spectrum, protein bank and document analysis., Results: (1) Among the 34 down-regulated protein spots in S group, 9 of them definitely exhibited up-regulation compared with those in H group. (2) The expression of mitochondrial aconitase, alpha-propionyl-CoA carboxylase, short chain of hydroxyacyl-Coenzyme A dehydrogenase, transcription factor EB (estradiol benzoate), triosephosphate isomerase 1, T cell receptor V delta 6, and dynein-like protein-5 in H group were significantly up-regulated., Conclusion: The hyperoxic fluid could up-regulate the down-regulated proteins in rat intestinal mucosa at early postburn stage, so that the barrier function of intestinal mucosa of rats with severe burns could be partially recovered.

A new chemiluminescence-based method was proposed for selective quantitation of analgin in pharmaceutical preparation. The CL emission was generated by mixing analgin, polyethylene glycol-400 and rhodamine 6G in acidic medium. The analgin content could be determined by the CL intensity. No oxidants were used in the system, so it was difficult to explain why the CL emission was produced. The mechanism of CL emission remains under investigation. One of the advantages of this method is highly selective. No other pharmaceutical compounds and chemicals could produce CL emission whether they contain sulfuric group or not in the experiment. There was no disturbance in this method, which was different from others. Another advantage is high sensitivity. The quantitation range is from 0.01 to 10 microg x mL(-1) with a detection limit of 0.003 microg x mL(-1) for analgin. This is the lowest detection limit of any CL methods currently available for analgin determination. The proposed method was applied to the selective quantitation of analgin in pharmaceutical preparation.
