1. Engineering band structures of two-dimensional materials with remote moire ferroelectricity

Abstract

The stacking order and twist angle provide abundant opportunities for engineering band structures of two-dimensional materials, including the formation of moire bands, flat bands, and topologically nontrivial bands. The inversion symmetry breaking in rhombohedral-stacked transitional metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) endows them with an interfacial ferroelectricity associated with an out-of-plane electric polarization. By utilizing twist angle as a knob to construct rhombohedral-stacked TMDCs, antiferroelectric domain networks with alternating out-of-plane polarization can be generated. Here, we demonstrate that such spatially periodic ferroelectric polarizations in parallel-stacked twisted WSe2 can imprint their moire potential onto a remote bilayer graphene. This remote moire potential gives rise to pronounced satellite resistance peaks besides the charge-neutrality point in graphene, which are tunable by the twist angle of WSe2. Our observations of ferroelectric hysteresis at finite displacement fields suggest the moire is delivered by a long-range electrostatic potential. The constructed superlattices by moire ferroelectricity represent a highly flexible approach, as they involve the separation of the moire construction layer from the electronic transport layer. This remote moire is identified as a weak potential and can coexist with conventional moire. Our results offer a comprehensive strategy for engineering band structures and properties of two-dimensional materials by utilizing moire ferroelectricity.

25. A New Approach for Dewatering Slurry: Vacuum Preloaded Geotextile Tube.

Abstract

The geotechnical tube technology has been widely used in the dewatering treatment of high-water-content slurries, such as engineering waste muds, mine water sludges, and dredging slurries. However, the existing engineering practice adopting the traditional geotextile tubes is characterized by low efficiency and difficult quality control. To address these issues, a new approach was developed by combining the geotextile tubes and vacuum preloading technology. In this method, several plastic drain boards were embedded in a geotextile tube as prefabricated horizontal drains (PHDs), and a vacuum was applied to promote drainage. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified by a comparison test. A two-dimensional plane-strain analytical consolidation problem with a distributed drainage boundary was then formulated and solved to predict the consolidation process of soil in a vacuum preloaded geotextile tube. The analytical solution was validated against the results of a pilot field test, and then the influence of PHD spacing on the consolidation process was also discussed. Compared to the traditional geotextile tubes, the approach proposed in this paper promises good applicability and can effectively shorten the treatment time by 73.3% and reduce the water content of treated soils by 51.9%. 26. Functional Validation of the Cytochrome P450 Family PgCYP309 Gene in Panax ginseng.

Abstract

Ginseng (Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) is an ancient and valuable Chinese herbal medicine, and ginsenoside, as the main active ingredient of ginseng, has received wide attention because of its various pharmacological active effects. Cytochrome P450 is the largest family of enzymes in plant metabolism and is involved in the biosynthesis of terpenoids, alkaloids, lipids, and other primary and secondary plant metabolites. It is significant to explore more PgCYP450 genes with unknown functions and reveal their roles in ginsenoside synthesis. In this study, based on the five PgCYP450 genes screened in the pre-laboratory, through the correlation analysis with the content of ginsenosides and the analysis of the interactions network of the key enzyme genes for ginsenoside synthesis, we screened out those highly correlated with ginsenosides, PgCYP309, as the target gene from among the five PgCYP450 genes. Methyl jasmonate-induced treatment of ginseng adventitious roots showed that the PgCYP309 gene responded to methyl jasmonate induction and was involved in the synthesis of ginsenosides. The PgCYP309 gene was cloned and the overexpression vector pBI121-PgCYP309 and the interference vector pART27-PgCYP309 were constructed. Transformation of ginseng adventitious roots by the Agrobacterium fermentum-mediated method and successful induction of transgenic ginseng hairy roots were achieved. The transformation rate of ginseng hairy roots with overexpression of the PgCYP309 gene was 22.7%, and the transformation rate of ginseng hairy roots with interference of the PgCYP309 gene was 40%. Analysis of ginseng saponin content and relative gene expression levels in positive ginseng hairy root asexual lines revealed a significant increase in PPD, PPT, and PPT-type monomeric saponins Re and Rg2. The relative expression levels of PgCYP309 and PgCYP716A53v2 genes were also significantly increased. PgCYP309 gene promotes the synthesis of ginsenosides, and it was preliminarily verified that PgCYP309 gene can promote the synthesis of dammarane-type ginsenosides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
