BACKGROUND: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disorder that affects women of reproductive age, characterized by chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovarian morphology. Emerging evidence indicates that neurological disorders play a significant role in the etiology of PCOS, highlighting the complex interplay between the central nervous system (CNS) and ovarian function. Yulinzhu, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation, has been traditionally used to regulate menstrual cycles and improve fertility. This study aims to investigate the efficacy and mechanisms of Yulinzhu in treating PCOS induced by neurological disorders. METHODS: An extensive literature search was performed across electronic databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), covering publications up to 1 June 2024. The review included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared Yulin Zhu with placebo, standard care, or other active treatments in patients with PCOS. Two reviewers independently carried out data extraction and quality assessment. Meta-analyses were conducted using both fixed and random-effects models, with heterogeneity evaluated using the I2 statistic. RESULTS: We screened 891 records and included 6 studi es in the meta-analysis. The meta-analysis revealed that Yulinzhu about effective rate [RR = 1.19, 95% CI (1.10, 1.29), p < 0.0001], pregnancy rate [RR = 2.80, 95% CI (1.65, 4.76), p < 0.0001] and ovulation rate [RR = 1.33, 95% CI (1.10, 1.62), p = 0.04]. Meta-analysis shows the results of follicle estrogen [WMD = 0.69, 95% CI (-0.39, 1.78), p = 0.21], luteinizing hormone [WMD = -2.27, 95% CI (-3.86, -0.67), p = 0.005], testosterone [WMD = -0.44, 95% CI (-0.64, -0.25), p < 0.0001], estradiol [WMD = 16.20, 95% CI (2.74, 29.67), p < 0.0001]. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that plant medicine compund Yulinzhu may effectively treats PCOS including hormonal regulation, anti-inflammatory actions, and neuroprotection. We expect further research with larger, well-designed clinical trials to substantiate our conclusions.

With the trend of global climate change, it is important to study the high temperature heat damage of tea plants and analyze the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics to warn damage early and reduce production losses. An index is established based on daily maximum air temperature and historical heat damage disaster records at 510 meteorological stations over tea regions in Southern Yangtze River and South China from 1961 to 2022, to determine and verify the extent of high temperature heat damage, using methods of disaster inversion and K-means clustering analysis method. The spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of high temperature heat damage are analyzed. The total days with moving average of 14-consecutive-day maximum temperature above 34.5 ℃ are statistically analyzed, and for mild, moderate and severe high temperature heat damage, the value is in the range of 1-17 d, 18-38 d and above 38 d, respectively. The accuracy rate of complete compliance with the validation sample is 73.9%, and the accuracy rate of basic compliance is 91.3%. The total number of heat damage on tea plants in Southern Yangtze River and South China shows fluctuating changes from 1961 to 2022. The total number of heat damage on tea plants in tea regions of Southern Yangtze River and South China is the lowest in 1999 and 1997, respectively, while numbers are the highest in 2021 for both tea regions. Compared to tea regions of Southern Yangtze River, there are more high temperature heat damages in South China, especially mild high temperature heat damages. Moreover, the number of high temperature heat damage on tea plants in South China shows a significant increasing trend in the past 62 years, but the trend of changes in the number of high temperature heat damage on tea plants in most tea regions of Southern Yangtze River is not significant.

Objective To investigate the efficacy of a holistic approach for postoperative pain management in children receiving dental treatment under general anesthesia in day-surgery operating room. Methods A total of 120 children, aged 3-7 years, of American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status Ⅰ or Ⅱ, with ≥ 10 treated teeth, receiving comprehensive dental treatment under general anesthesia from January 2020 to August 2020 were enrolled in this trial and randomly allocated into the holistic approach group (group H, n=60) and including preemptive analgesia, instructions to parents for pain management and web-based assessment system (assessment pain by scanning the quick response code 4, 6, and 24 hours postoperatively) and the control group (group C, n=60) only scanning the quick response code. Pain, face, legs, activity, cry and consolability (FLACC) scale was used to assess the level of pain 2 h postoperatively and the parents postoperative pain measure (PPPM) was used to assess the level of pain 4, 6, and 24 h postoperatively in two groups. Maize (Zea mays L.) is one of the most important grain crops in the world. Drought caused by climate change in recent years may greatly threaten water supply and crop production, even if the drought only lasts for a few days or weeks. Therefore, effective daily drought monitoring for maize is crucial for ensuring food security. A pivotal challenge in current related research may be the selection of data collection and the methodologies in the construction of these indices. Therefore, orthorectified reflectance in the short-wave infrared (SWIR) band, which is highly sensitive to variations in vegetation water content, was daily obtained from the MODIS MCD43A4 product. Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) calculated using the NIR and SWIR bands and days after planting (DAP) were normalized to obtain the Vegetation Water Index (VWI) and normalized days after planting (NDAP), respectively. The daily dynamic threshold model for different agricultural drought grades was constructed based on the VWI and NDAP with double-logistic fitting functions during the maize growing season, and its specific threshold was determined with historical drought records. Verification results indicated that the VWI had a good effect on the daily agricultural drought monitoring of spring maize in the "Golden Maize Belt" in northeast China. Drought grades produced by the VWI were completely consistent with historical records for 84.6% of the validation records, and 96.2% of the validation records differed by only one grade level or less. The VWI can not only daily identify the occurrence and development process of drought, but also well reflect the impact of drought on the yield of maize. Moreover, the VWI could be used to monitor the spatial evolution of drought processes at both regional and precise pixel scales. These results contribute to providing theoretical guidance for the daily dynamic monitoring and evaluation of spring maize drought in the "Golden Maize Belt" of China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. To explore the psychological impact of gynecological cancers on middle‐aged women in Southwest China and identify the risk factors for moderate to severe depressive symptoms. Methods. This cross‐sectional study included 500 patients from Southwest China, divided into two groups: depression (n = 220) and no depression (n = 280). Data on demographics, clinical characteristics, and socioeconomic factors were collected. We developed a logistic regression model to predict depressive symptoms and assessed its accuracy using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Results. The study cohort consisted of 500 middle‐aged and young female cancer patients with a median age of 44 years. Significant predictors of depressive symptoms included younger age, higher economic stress levels, and out‐of‐pocket medical expenses. A comparative analysis showed that 220 patients exhibited depression symptoms, with these patients being generally younger (median age 41 years) compared to those without depression (median age 47 years, p < 0.001). Economic stress was consistently higher in the depression group across all cancer types. Patients with ovarian cancer had a reduced risk of depression compared to those with cervical cancer. The predictive model demonstrated high accuracy in identifying depression risk, with an AUC of 0.888. Internal validation yielded an average AUC of 0.885, and external validation produced an AUC of 0.872, underscoring the model's robustness and reliability. These findings emphasize the complex interplay of demographic, socioeconomic, and clinical factors in the psychological well‐being of gynecological cancer patients, highlighting the need for tailored psychological and financial support interventions. Conclusion. Gynecological cancer patients in Southwest China experience significant psychological challenges, particularly younger women and those facing economic stress. Our predictive model can aid in early identification of those at risk for depression, emphasizing the importance of holistic care. Tea plants (Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze) are a cash crop that thrive under warm and moist conditions. However, tea plants are becoming increasingly vulnerable to heat damage (HD) during summer growing seasons due to global climate warming. Because China ranks first in the world in both harvested tea area and total tea production, monitoring and tracking HD to tea plants in a timely manner has become a significant and urgent task for scientists and tea producers in China. In this study, the spatiotemporal characteristics of HD evolution were analyzed, and a tracking method using HD LST-weighted geographical centroids was constructed based on HD pixels identified by the critical LST threshold and daytime MYD11A1 products over the major tea planting regions of mainland China from two typical HD years (2013 and 2022). Results showed that the average number of HD days in 2022 was five more than in 2013. Daily HD extent increased at a rate of 0.66% per day in 2022, which was faster than that in 2013 with a rate of 0.21% per day. In two typical HD years, the tea regions with the greatest HD extent were concentrated south of the Yangtze River (SYR), with average HD pixel ratios of greater than 50%, then north of the Yangtze River (NYR) and southwest China (SWC), with average HD pixel ratios of around 40%. The regions with the least HD extent were in South China (SC), where the HD ratios were less than 40%. The HD LST-weighted geographical centroid trajectories showed that HD to tea plants in 2013 initially moved from southwest to northeast, and then moved west. In 2022, HD moved from northeast to west and south. Daily HD centroids were mainly concentrated at the conjunction of SYR, SWC, and SC in 2013, and in northern SWC in 2022, where they were near to the centroid of the tea planting gardens. The findings in this study confirmed that monitoring HD evolution of tea plants over a large spatial extent based on reconstructed remotely sensed LST values and critical threshold was an effective method benefiting from available MODIS LST products. Moreover, this method can identify and track the spatial distribution characteristics of HD to tea plants in a timely manner, and it will therefore be helpful for taking effective preventative measures to mitigate economic losses resulting from HD.
