Abstract

Neutron imaging is an invaluable noninvasive technique for exploring new science and assisting industrial manufacture. However, state-of-the-art neutron facilities are extremely expensive and inconvenient to access, while the flux of portable neutron sources is not strong enough to form even a static image within an acceptable time frame. It is hard to obtain images with both high spatial resolution and energy resolution together. Here, based on classical amplitude modulation, we demonstrate single-pixel imaging with neutrons with specially designed masks and, further, obtain energy-selective images with a spallation neutron source. Images of real complex objects with 100 {\mu}m spatial resolution and 10 {\mu}s time resolution (corresponding to 0.4% at 1 {\AA}) have been obtained using a 3He single-pixel detector. Even when the neutron counts in the detector plane were lowered to 1000 per modulation pattern on average, a clear image was still obtained. The experimental setup is simple, inexpensive and easy to operate, thus our scheme points to a new path for neutron imaging, especially for portable radioactive neutron sources of low intensity, which should be of great benefit for diagnostic analysis in biology, materials science, and industrial processes.

8. Preparation and characterization of composite support NiO/La0.7Ca0.3CrO3-δ by phase-conversion spinning method for micro-tubular SOFC

Abstract

Using solid-phase reaction process to synthesize La0.7Ca0.3CrO3-δ(LCC) primary powder, composite hollow fiber membrane of NiO/LCC (1:1) was prepared by phase-conversion spinning method and then sintered at 1400℃ in air as micro-tubular solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) support. The particle size distribution, TG-DTA thermal analysis, structure, morphologies, electrical conductivity, thermal expansion and bending strength were characterized by laser particulate size analyzer, thermal analyzer, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, standard DC four-probe technique, thermal expansion dilatometer and universal material testing machine. Results indicate that LCC and NiO powders have considerable chemical and sintering compatibilities at SOFC co-firing temperature (1400℃). The fracture section of the hollow fiber membrane exhibits a sandwich-like structure with homogeneous porous surfaces. Two layers of obviously bigger parallel finger-like pores distribute uniformly between the inner and outer surfaces of the microtubule section. The porosity of the sample is 60.6%, and increases to a relatively high value of 68.1% after reduction. Electrical conductivity of the sintered specimen decreases as the temperature increasing in pure H2. The value reaches 10.8S·cm-1 at 700℃. Bending strength before and after reduction are 39.6MPa and 33.2MPa respectively. Thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) value of the NiO/LCC hollow fiber membrane gets to 12.4×10-6K-1, which is very close to that of other SOFC components, such as NiO/YSZ anode and LCC interconnect.

10. Preparation of tungsten–iron composite oxides and application in environmental catalysis for volatile organic compounds degradation

Abstract

Emission of volatile organic compounds has important influence on complex air pollution and human health. In this paper, a series of tungsten–iron composite oxides with different proportions and preparation methods were synthesized and first used for catalytic combustion of chlorobenzene and toluene, as typical polluting gas sources. These WO3-based solid catalytic materials were systematically characterized by modern analytical methods, and the results showed that there was strong electron interaction between W and Fe elements in the composite oxides, and the presence of a certain amount of tungsten oxide inhibited the crystallization of iron oxide, and vice versa, which were beneficial to the uniform dispersion of tungsten–iron components into each other and the improvement of redox properties. Compared with single-component oxide, the formation of tungsten–iron composite oxide affected the micro-structure, improved the specific surface area and optimized the pore structure of materials. The performance test results showed that the tungsten–iron composite oxide (FeWO4–0.5Fe2O3, molar ratio of tungsten and iron was 1/2) prepared using citric acid-based sol–gel method was the optimal, and its catalytic degradation efficiency could reach 90% for chlorobenzene and 83% for toluene at 320 °C, and maintain at least 60 h without obvious deactivation, with high selectivity to the formation of HCl and CO2.

Abstract

An electrochemically‐driven organocatalytic enantioselective oxidative coupling of tetrahydroisoquinolines and acrylaldehyde was developed. Various chiral C1‐alkenyl tetrahydroisoquinolines derivatives were obtained with 69–86% yields and 93:7–96:4 er. Notable features of this reaction include asymmetric organocatalysis (5.0 mol% β‐ICD as catalyst), electricity as the oxidant, air atmosphere, and undivided cell. Abstract

Spermatogenesis within the adult testis is an excellent system for studying stem cell renewal and differentiation, which is under the control of testicular somatic cells. In order to understanding spermatogenesis in the half-smooth tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis) as a marine fish model of aquaculture importance, we established a cell line called CSGC from a juvenile gonad of this organism. CSGC is composed of fibroblast-like cells, retains a diploid karyotype of 42 chromosomes, lacks the heterogametic W chromosome, lacks a female specific marker and expresses the dmrt, a marker for testicular somatic cells. Therefore, CSGC appears to consist of testicular somatic cell cells. We show that this cell line is effective for infection by the turbot reddish body iridovirus and flounder lymphocystis disease virus as evidenced by the appearance of cytopathic effect and virus propagation in the virus-infected cells, and most convincingly, the observation of viral particles by electon microscopy, demonstrateing that CSGC is suitable to study interactions between virus and host cells. As a first fish testicular somatic cell line of the ZZ-ZW genetic sex determination system, CSGC will be a useful tool to study sex-related events and interactions between somatic cells and germ cells during spermatogenesis.

Abstract

The optimal control problem of reservoir group flood control is a complex, nonlinear, high-dimensional, multi-peak extremum problem with many complex constraints and interdependent decision variables. The traditional algorithm is slow and easily falls into the local optimum when solving the problem of the flood control optimization of reservoir groups. The intelligent algorithm has the characteristics of fast computing speed and strong searching ability, which can make up for the shortcomings of the traditional algorithm. In this study, the improved sparrow algorithm (ISSA) combining Cauchy mutation and reverse learning strategy is used to solve the flood control optimization problem of reservoir groups. This study takes Sanmenxia Reservoir and Xiaolangdi Reservoir on the mainstream of the Yellow River as the research object and Huayuankou as the downstream control point to establish a joint flood control optimization operation model of cascade reservoirs. The results of the improved sparrow algorithm (ISSA), particle swarm optimization (POS) and sparrow algorithm (SSA) are compared and analyzed. The results show that when the improved ISSA algorithm is used to solve the problem, the maximum flood peak flow of the garden entrance control point is 11,676.3 m3, and the peak cutting rate is 48%. The optimization effect is obviously better than the other two algorithms. This study provides a new and effective way to solve the problem of flood control optimization of reservoir groups. 27. Neutron-induced single event effect in Xilinx 16nm MPSoC configuration RAM (CRAM) using white neutron and 2.72~81.8meV neutron in CSNS-BL20

Abstract

ABSTRACTMulti-Processor System on Chip is widely used in 5G wireless, advanced driver assistance system, industrial internet of things and other fields, it suffers the risk from neutron-induced single event effects. In the China Spallation Neutron Source BL20 neutron performance measurement room, the white and 2.72~81.8meV neutrons are obtained by adjusting the phase of the choppers, and the neutron-induced single event effect experiments on configuration memory of the Xilinx 16nm MPSoC were carried out. Single bit upset and single event functional interruption events were detected in various irradiation modes.The results show that 16nm MPSoC is sensitive to low energy neutrons because of 10B. Analysis shows that 2.72~81.8meV neutrons take up about 7.1% of the white neutron, but the contribution to the entire white neutron inducing single event upsets reaches 63%. Further analysis manifests that neutrons in the thermal energy region account for about 9.6% in white neutron irradiation mode, but their contribution to single event upset is about 44%. And for 2.72~81.8meV neutron irradiation mode, neutrons from 2.72 to 10meV and 10 to 81.8meV contributed 46% and 54% of soft errors, respectively. Therefore, for certain radiation fields, it is recommended to focus on the impact of low energy neutrons.

Abstract

Calculating flood based on rainfall is an important part of hydrological forecast. However, due to the diversity and complexity of factors affecting the relationship between rainfall and runoffs, using the perspective of mechanism to simulate the forming of flood through rainfall is often difficult. In this paper, flood forecast model is constructed based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Genetic Programming (GP), using actual data to mine the relationship among rainfall, pre rain and net rain, to avoid the flaws of constructing actual mathematical expression in advance, and automatically search for optimal structure. Practice has approved that applying data mining technique on flood forecasting of Douhe Reservoir is able to achieve outstanding results.

Abstract

The neutron response function for a BC501A liquid scintillator (LS) has been measured using a series of monoenergetic neutrons produced by the p-T reaction. The proton energies were chosen such as to produce neutrons in the energy range of 1 to 20 MeV. The principles of the technique of unfolding a neutron energy spectrum by using the measured neutron response function and the measured Pulse Height (PH) spectrum is briefly described. The PH spectrum of neutrons from the Pu-C source, which will be used for the calibration of the reactor antineutrino detectors for the Daya Bay neutrino experiment, was measured and analyzed to get the neutron energy spectrum. Simultaneously the neutron energy spectrum of an Am-Be source was measured and compared with other measurements as a check of the result for the Pu-C source. Finally, an error analysis and a discussion of the results are given.

Abstract

A new kind of porous nano TiO2 composite films was prepared on the glass substrate with the water glass as binders and the sodium fluorosilicate as solidifying reagent. The morphologies of the films were studied by scanning electron microscope(SEM). The UV Vis spectrophotometer was also used to investigate the absorption of the films. The gas phase photocatalytic oxidation of nitrogen oxides on the com posite film was carried out in TiO2 UV system, and some important factors affecting the photocatalytic oxidation were also studied such as the catalyst, concentration vapor pressure and the presence of oxygen. The results showed the conver sion of NO x reached 97.5°, after 2 h UV irradiation. The final product of photo oxidation was detected to be HNO3 by FT-IR. The way of photocatalytic oxidation of NO x was possibly useful in the practical application.

Abstract

Ultrasound degradation of humic acid has been investigated in the presence of persulfate anions at ultrasonic frequency of 40 kHz. The effects of persulfate anion concentration, ultrasonic power input, humic acid concentration, reaction time, solution pH and temperature on humic acid removal efficiency were studied. It is found that up to 90% humic acid removal efficiency was achieved after 2 h reaction. In this system, sulfate radicals (SO₄⁻·) were considered to be the mainly oxidant to mineralize humic acid while persulfate anion can hardly react with humic acid directly. A novel kinetic model based on sulfate radicals (SO₄⁻·) oxidation was established to describe the humic acid mineralization process mathematically and chemically in sono-activated persulfate system. According to the new model, ultrasound power, persulfate dosage, solution pH and reaction temperature have great influence on humic acid degradation. Different initial concentration of persulfate anions and humic acid, ultrasonic power, initial pH and reaction temperature have been discussed to valid the effectiveness of the model, and the simulated data showed new model had good agreement with the experiments data.
