2. Ejecta-circumstellar medium interaction in high-density environment contribution to kilonova emission: Application to GRB 191019A

Abstract

The nearby long-duration GRB 191019A recently detected by Swift lacks an associated supernova and belongs to a host galaxy with little star formation activity, suggesting that the origin of this burst is the result of a merger of two compact objects with dynamical interactions in a high-density medium of an active galactic nucleus. Given the potential motivation of this event, and given that it occurs in such a high-density environment, the ejecta-circumstellar medium (CSM) interaction cannot be ignored as possibly contributing to the kilonova emission. Here, we theoretically calculate the kilonova emission by considering the contribution of the ejecta-CSM interaction in a high-density environment. We find that the contribution to the kilonova emission from the ejecta-CSM interaction will dominate at a later time, and a smaller ejecta mass will have a stronger kilonova emission from the ejecta-CSM interaction. Moreover, we try to apply it to GRB 191019A, but we find that it is difficult to identify the possible kilonova emission from the observations, due to the contribution of the bright host galaxy. On the other hand, less injected mass (less than $M_{\rm ej}=2\times10^{-5}M_{\odot}$) will be required if one can detect the kilonova emission associated with a GRB 191019A-like event in the future. Abstract

BackgroundLow anterior resection syndrome (LARS) is a common functional disorder that develops after patients with rectal cancer undergo anal preservation surgery. Common approaches to assess the symptoms of patients with LARS are often complex and time-consuming. Instant messaging/social media has great application potential in LARS follow-up, but has been underdeveloped. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to compare data between a novel instant messaging/social media follow-up system and a telephone interview in patients with LARS and to analyze the consistency of the instant messaging/social media platform. MethodsPatients with R0 resectable rectal cancer who accepted several defecation function visits via the instant messaging/social media platform and agreed to a telephone interview after the operation using the same questionnaire including subjective questions and LARS scores were included. Differences between the 2 methods were analyzed in pairs and the diagnostic consistency of instant messaging/social media was calculated based on telephone interview results. ResultsIn total, 21 questionnaires from 15 patients were included. The positive rates of defecation dissatisfaction, life restriction, and medication use were 10/21 (48%), 11/21 (52%), and 8/21 (38%) for telephone interview and 10/21 (48%), 13/21 (62%), and 5/21 (24%) for instant messaging/social media, respectively. Abstract

The physical and chemical properties of transplutonium elements are very similar, and their in-group separation is extremely difficult. It is generally believed that the oxidation state of transplutonium elements is usually +3, and their properties are similar to lanthanides. However, related studies in recent years have found that some Bk, Cf compounds have stronger covalent interactions than Pu, Am, Cm compounds. Since transplutonium elements are high toxicity, strong radioactivity and mostly short-lived nuclides, experimental studies are very difficult, and relevant experimental data are particularly scarce. In recent years, theoretical calculations have become an important means to understand the physical and chemical properties of transplutonium elements. In this review, we summarize recent theoretical advances in the bonding nature of transplutonium(Am, Cm, Bk, Cf) compounds.

Abstract

Manipulating single emitter radiation is essential for quantum information science. Significant progress has been made in enhancing the radiation efficiency and directivity by coupling quantum emitters with microcavities and plasmonic antennas. However, there has been a great challenge to generate complex radiation patterns such as vortex beam from a single emitter. Here, we report a chiral plasmonic nanocavity, which provides a strong local chiral vacuum field at an exceptional point. We show that a single linear dipole emitter embedded in the nanocavity will radiate to vortex beam via anomalous spontaneous emission with a Purcell enhancement factor up to ∼1000. Our scheme provides a new field manipulation method for chiral quantum optics and vortex lasers at the nanoscale.

49. Chiral-reversing vortex radiation from a single emitter by eigenstates phase locking

Abstract

The radiation of an emitter does not depend only on its intrinsic properties but also on the surrounding photonic environment, the notion of which is essential in the developments of lasers, quantum optics and other light-matter interaction related fields. However, in conventional wisdom, an emitter radiates into photonic eigenstates in the weak coupling regime and does not alter the property of the latter. Here, we report a counterintuitive phenomenon where the radiation field of a dipole in a parity-time symmetric ring resonator displays the opposite handedness to the eigenstates of the system. This chiral-reversing radiation takes place at an exception point of the underlying non-Hermitian system, where the singularity at the exceptional point forces a phase locking of the coalesced eigenstates when interacting with the dipole emitter. Such an intriguing phenomenon has been employed to construct vortex radiation with controllable topological charge from a single quantum dot embedded plasminic nanocavity with Purcell enhancement factor up to 1000. Our scheme enriches the interesting physics of an exception point in the quantum region and may open a new paradigm for chiral quantum optics and vortex lasers at nanoscale.
