Quantum transport and localization are fundamental concepts in condensed matter physics. It is commonly believed that in one-dimensional systems, the existence of mobility edges is highly dependent on disorder. Recently, there has been a debate over the existence of an exact mobility edge in a modulated mosaic model without quenched disorder, the so-called mosaic Wannier-Stark lattice. Here, we experimentally implement such disorder-free mosaic photonic lattices using a silicon photonics platform. By creating a synthetic electric field, we could observe energy-dependent coexistence of both extended and localized states in a finite number of waveguides. The Wannier-Stark ladder emerges when the resulting potential is strong enough, and can be directly probed by exciting different spatial modes of the lattice. Our studies provide the experimental proof of coexisting sets of strongly localized and conducting (though weakly localized) states in finite-sized mosaic Wannier-Stark lattices, which hold the potential to encode high-dimensional quantum resources with compact and robust structures.

The mobility edge (ME) is a crucial concept in understanding localization physics, marking the critical transition between extended and localized states in the energy spectrum. Anderson localization scaling theory predicts the absence of ME in lower dimensional systems. Hence, the search for exact MEs, particularly for single particles in lower dimensions, has recently garnered significant interest in both theoretical and experimental studies, resulting in notable progress. However, several open questions remain, including the possibility of a single system exhibiting multiple MEs and the continual existence of extended states, even within the strong disorder domain. Here, we provide experimental evidence to address these questions by utilizing a quasiperiodic mosaic lattice with meticulously designed nanophotonic circuits. Our observations demonstrate the coexistence of both extended and localized states in lattices with broken duality symmetry and varying modulation periods. By single site injection and scanning the disorder level, we could approximately probe the ME of the modulated lattice. These results corroborate recent theoretical predictions, introduce a new avenue for investigating ME physics, and offer inspiration for further exploration of ME physics in the quantum regime using hybrid integrated photonic devices.

Symmetries play a major role in identifying topological phases of matter and in establishing a direct connection between protected edge states and topological bulk invariants via the bulk-boundary correspondence. One-dimensional lattices are deemed to be protected by chiral symmetry, exhibiting quantized Zak phases and protected edge states, but not for all cases. Here, we experimentally realize an extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model with broken chiral symmetry by engineering one-dimensional zigzag photonic lattices, where the long-range hopping breaks chiral symmetry but ensures the existence of inversion symmetry. By the averaged mean displacement method, we detect topological invariants directly in the bulk through the continuous-time quantum walk of photons. Our results demonstrate that inversion symmetry protects the quantized Zak phase, but edge states can disappear in the topological nontrivial phase, thus breaking the conventional bulk-boundary correspondence. Squeezed light is a critical resource in quantum sensing and information processing. Due to the inherently weak optical nonlinearity and limited interaction volume, considerable pump power is typically needed to obtain efficient interactions to generate squeezed light in bulk crystals. Integrated photonics offers an elegant way to increase the nonlinearity by confining light strictly inside the waveguide. For the construction of large-scale quantum systems performing many-photon operations, it is essential to integrate various functional modules on a chip. However, fabrication imperfections and transmission crosstalk may add unwanted diffraction and coupling to other photonic elements, reducing the quality of squeezing. Here, by introducing the topological phase, we experimentally demonstrate the topologically protected nonlinear process of spontaneous four-wave mixing enabling the generation of squeezed light on a silica chip. We measure the cross-correlations at different evolution distances for various topological sites and verify the non-classical features with high fidelity. The squeezing parameters are measured to certify the protection of cavity-free, strongly squeezed states. Quantum computer, harnessing quantum superposition to boost a parallel computational power, promises to outperform its classical counterparts and offer an exponentially increased scaling. The term "quantum advantage" was proposed to mark the key point when people can solve a classically intractable problem by artificially controlling a quantum system in an unprecedented scale, even without error correction or known practical applications. Boson sampling, a problem about quantum evolutions of multi-photons on multimode photonic networks, as well as its variants, has been considered as a promising candidate to reach this milestone. However, the current photonic platforms suffer from the scaling problems, both in photon numbers and circuit modes. Here, we propose a new variant of the problem, timestamp membosonsampling, exploiting the timestamp information of single photons as free resources, and the scaling of the problem can be in principle extended to infinitely large. We experimentally verify the scheme on a self-looped photonic chip inspired by memristor, and obtain multi-photon registrations up to 56-fold in 750,000 modes with a Hilbert space up to $10^{254}$. Quantum advantage, benchmarking the computational power of quantum machines outperforming all classical computers in a specific task, represents a crucial milestone in developing quantum computers and has been driving different physical implementations since the concept was proposed. Boson sampling machine, an analog quantum computer that only requires multiphoton interference and single-photon detection, is considered to be a promising candidate to reach this goal. However, the probabilistic nature of photon sources and inevitable loss in evolution network make the execution time exponentially increasing with the problem size. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a timestamp boson sampling that can reduce the execution time by 2 orders of magnitude for any problem size. We theoretically show that the registration time of sampling events can be retrieved to reconstruct the probability distribution at an extremely low-flux rate. By developing a time-of-flight storage technique with a precision up to picosecond level, we are able to detect and record the complete time information of 30 individual modes out of a large-scale 3D photonic chip. We successfully validate boson sampling with only one registered event. We show that it is promptly applicable to fill the remained gap of realizing quantum advantage by timestamp boson sampling. Quantum walks in an elaborately designed graph, is a powerful tool simulating physical and topological phenomena, constructing analog quantum algorithms and realizing universal quantum computing. Integrated photonics technology has emerged as a versatile platform to implement various quantum information tasks and a promising candidate to perform large-scale quantum walks. Both extending physical dimensions and involving more particles will increase the complexity of the evolving systems and the desired quantum resources. Pioneer works have demonstrated single particle walking on two-dimensional (2D) lattices and multiple walkers interfering on a one-dimensional structure. However, 2D multi-particle quantum walk, genuinely being not classically simulatable, has been a vacancy for nearly ten years. Here, we present a genuine 2D quantum walk with correlated photons on a triangular photonic lattice, which can be mapped to a state space up to 37X37 dimensions. This breaks through the physically restriction of single-particle evolution, which can encode information in a large space and constitute high-dimensional graphs indeed beneficial to quantum information processing. A site-by-site addressing between the chip facet and the 2D fanout interface enables an observation of over 600 non-classical interferences simultaneously, violating a classical limit up to 57 standard deviations. Fractals are fascinating structures, not only for their aesthetic appeal, but also because they allow for the investigation of physical properties in non-integer dimensions. In these unconventional systems, a myriad of intrinsic features might come into play, such as the fractal dimension, the spectral dimension, or the fractal geometry. Despite abundant theoretical and numerical studies, experiments in fractal networks remain elusive. Here, we experimentally investigate quantum transport in fractal networks by performing continuous-time quantum walks in fractal photonic lattices with incremental propagation lengths. Photons act as the walkers and evolve in the lattices after being injected into one initial site. We unveil the transport properties through the photon evolution pattern at different propagation lengths and the analysis of the variance and the P'olya number, which are calculated based on the probability distribution of the patterns. Contrarily to classical fractals, we observe anomalous transport governed solely by the fractal dimension. In addition, the critical point at which there is a transition from normal to anomalous transport is highly dependent on the fractal geometry. Our experiment allows the verification of physical laws in a quantitative manner and reveals the transport dynamics with unprecedented detail, thus opening a path to the understanding of more complex quantum phenomena governed by fractality., Comment: 45 pages, 21 figures, comments welcome!

Quantum technology is playing an increasingly important role due to the intrinsic parallel processing capabilities endorsed by quantum superposition, exceeding upper limits of classical performances in diverse fields. Integrated photonic chip offers an elegant way to construct large-scale quantum systems in a physically scalable fashion, however, nonuniformity of quantum sources prevents all the elements from being connected coherently for exponentially increasing Hilbert space. Here, we experimentally demonstrate 128 identical quantum sources integrated on a single silica chip. By actively controlling the light-matter interaction in femtosecond laser direct writing, we are able to unify the properties of waveguides comprehensively and therefore the spontaneous four-wave mixing process for quantum sources. We verify the indistinguishability of the on-chip sources by a series of heralded two-source Hong-Ou-Mandel interference, with all the dip visibilities above 90%. In addition, the brightness of the sources is found easily reaching MHz and being applicable to both discrete-variable and continuous-variable platform, showing either clear anti-bunching feature or large squeezing parameter under different pumping regimes. The demonstrated scalability and uniformity of quantum sources, together with integrated photonic network and detection, will enable large-scale all-on-chip quantum processors for real-life applications., Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures

Percolation, describing critical behaviors of phase transition in a geometrical context, prompts wide investigations in natural and social networks as a fundamental model. The introduction of quantum-intrinsic interference and tunneling brings percolation into quantum regime with more fascinating phenomena and unique features, which, however, hasn't been experimentally explored yet. Here we present an experimental demonstration of quantum transport in hexagonal percolation lattices by successfully mapping such large-scale porous structures into a photonic chip using femtosecond laser direct writing techniques. A quantum percolation threshold of 80% is observed in the prototyped laser-written lattices with up to 1,600 waveguides, which is significantly larger than the classical counterpart of 63%. We also investigate the spatial confinement by localization parameters and exhibit the transition from ballistic to diffusive propagation with the decrease of the occupation probability. Quantum computation, aiming at tackling hard problems beyond classical approaches, has been flourishing with each passing day. Unfortunately, a fully scalable and fault-tolerant universal quantum computer remains challenging based on the current technology. Boson sampling, first proposed by Aaronson and Arkhipov, is commonly believed as the most promising candidate to reach the intermediate quantum computational milestone, namely, quantum supremacy. Following this leading proposal, many experimental implementations as well as variants of boson sampling have been shown. However, most of these works are limited to small scale and cannot fulfill the permanent-of-Gaussians conjecture. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the largest scale boson sampling in the collision-free dominant regime using multi-port interferometer in a 3D photonic chip. We measure all 6,545 no-collision output combinations and validate the experimental results. An in-depth analysis is performed on the problem that one parameter of the Cube model can affects the final simulation results of space debris long-term evolution model, which weakens the representativeness of the space debris evolution model. We made some improvements and proposed an Improved-Cube (I-Cube) model. By multiple Monte Carlo simulations, it is indicated that the I-Cube model offered a more accurate and more reasonable option for collision probability estimation in the space debris evolution process. Energy transport is of central importance in understanding a wide variety of transitions of physical states in nature. Recently, the coherence and noise have been identified for their existence and key roles in energy transport processes, for instance, in a photosynthesis complex, DNA, and odor sensing etc, of which one may have to reveal the inner mechanics in the quantum regime. Here we present an analog of Newton's cradle by manipulating a boundary-controlled chain on a photonic chip. Long-range interactions can be mediated by a long chain composed of 21 strongly coupled sites, where single-photon excitations are transferred between two remote sites via simultaneous control of inter-site weak and strong couplings. We observe a high retrieval efficiency in both uniform and defect-doped chain structures.
