Two-dimensional (2D) materials such as transition metal chalcogenides can be used to create different components of electronic devices, including semiconducting channels and metallic electrodes and interconnects. However, devices are typically fabricated using a step-by-step process that can introduce defects and impurities, leading to a reduction in device performance. Here we show that 2D electronic components can be chemically synthesized and integrated simultaneously in a single step, creating 2D devices in which each component in the active layer is connected via covalent bonds instead of physical interfaces. The approach involves the phase-patterned growth of atomic layers, and, using 2D molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe 2 ) as the active material, we show that it can be used to construct high-performance field-effect transistors (FETs) and arrays of logic devices. We also use the technique to construct FETs with ultrashort gate lengths, bilayered FETs with vertical interconnections and flexible devices.

The research and treatment of epilepsy is entering a new era. In order to meet the arrival of this era, organizations such as International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) have proposed a series of reform measures, which will bring new concepts to the prevention and treatment of epilepsy, establish a new knowledge framework, and promote scientific progress in this field. This article introduces the significance of the transition from anti-epileptic to anti-seizure, the new classification of epilepsy syndromes of the ILAE, the new international standard of EEG, and discusses the international treatment methods for status epilepticus (SE).

African horse sickness (AHS) is an acute, fatal, contagious disease of animals of the family Equidae and is caused by infection with the African horse sickness virus (AHSV). Based on the outer capsid protein VP2, AHSV is classified into nine serotypes (AHSV−1 to −9) with little or no serological cross-reactivity between them. In 2020, AHS outbreaks caused by AHSV−1 were reported in Thailand and Malaysia, marking the first occurrences of AHS in Southeast Asia. However, little is known about the antigenic profile of AHSV−1 VP2. In this study, a recombinant VP2 protein was expressed in Escherichia coli and used as an immunogen, and three monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), designated 7D11, 10A9, and 9E7, against AHSV−1 VP2, were generated. These three mAbs were then successfully used in IFA, WB, and ELISA for the detection of AHSV−1 VP2. Two overlapping linear epitopes, 670NEFDFE675 (E670–675) recognized by 9E7 and 670NEFDF674 (E670–674) recognized by 7D11 and 10A9, were identified through truncation of GST-fused VP2. Amino acid sequence alignment shows that the 670NEFDFE675 motif is completely conserved within AHSV−1 but is highly divergent in other AHSV serotypes. Donor‐specific HLA antibody (DSA) has been recognised as an independent risk factor for graft failure in patients undergoing haploidentical haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HID HSCT). Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), as a first‐line strategy for DSA desensitisation, can promptly reduce serum DSA levels. This study aimed to investigate DSA characteristics and identify a biomarker predicting the efficacy of DSA desensitisation in patients proceeding to HID HSCT. We retrospectively enrolled 32 patients with DSA from April 2021 to January 2024, and analysed the mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) value of DSA at the different time points of desensitisation treatment. Compared with baseline DSA level before TPE, the median MFI of HLA class I DSA was reduced from 8178.6 to 795.3 (p < 0.001), and HLA class II DSA decreased from 6210.9 to 808.8 (p < 0.001) after TPE. The DSA level in 1:16 diluted pre‐TPE serum correlated well with DSA value in post‐TPE serum (class I, r = 0.85, p < 0.0001; class II, r = 0.94, p < 0.0001), predicting TPE efficacy in 84.4% of patients. Based on the degree of DSA reduction after TPE, patients were divided into complete responders (decreased by >70%), partial responders (decreased by 30 to 70%) and non‐responders (decreased by <30%) and the percentages were 43.8%, 25% and 31.2%, respectively. Non‐responders receiving aggressive immunotherapy had longer overall survival compared to those receiving standard strategies (p < 0.05). The 1:16 diluted pre‐TPE serum may predict the efficacy of TPE and allow for more rational immunotherapy strategy for patients with DSA proceeding to HID HSCT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Grammatical metaphor is the term used by Halliday to refer to meaning transference in grammar. Instead of the congruent realization of a norm, the metaphorical representation has become the norm in many instances. Metaphorical modes of expression are characteristic of all adult discourses (Halliday, 1994). The shift from congruent to metaphorical modes of expression is also the characteristic of written English. For foreign language learners, getting to know the features of the target language and using them in their own expressions are important. This paper examines the features of grammatical metaphor in written English and then discusses the difficulties and problems of the application of these features in teaching writing to college English learners. This paper also provides some research findings and pedagogical implications for developing awareness of grammatical metaphor in writing of Chinese college learners of English. (Contains 4 tables.)
