We demonstrate strongly collimated beaming, at audible frequencies, in a three-dimensional acoustic phononic crystal where the wavelength is commensurate with the crystal elements; the crystal is a seemingly simple rectangular cuboid constructed from closely-spaced spheres, and yet demonstrates rich wave phenomena acting as a canonical three-dimensional metamaterial. We employ theory, numerical simulation and experiments to design and interpret this collimated beaming phenomenon and use a crystal consisting of a finite rectangular cuboid array of $4\times 10\times 10$ polymer spheres $1.38$~cm in diameter in air, arranged in a primitive cubic cell with the centre-to-centre spacing of the spheres, i.e. the pitch, as $1.5$~cm. Collimation effects are observed in the time domain for chirps with central frequencies at $14.2$~kHz and $18$~kHz, and we deployed a laser feedback interferometer or Self-Mixing Interferometer (SMI) -- a recently proposed technique to observe complex acoustic fields -- that enables experimental visualisation of the pressure field both within the crystal and outside of the crystal. Numerical exploration using a higher-order multi-scale finite element method designed for the rapid and detailed simulation of 3D wave physics further confirms these collimation effects and cross-validates with the experiments. Interpretation follows using High Frequency Homogenization and Bloch analysis whereby the different origin of the collimation at these two frequencies is revealed by markedly different isofrequency surfaces of the sonic crystal., Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures

We develop a compact theory that can be applied to a variety of time-varying dispersive materials. The continuous wave reflection and transmission coefficients are replaced with equivalent operator expressions. In addition to comparing this approach to existing numerical and analytical techniques, we find that the eigenfunctions of these operators represent pulses that do not change their spectra after interaction with the time-varying, dispersive material. Multiple isotopes of samarium element are the isotopes produced by the s process, and 154Sm is produced by the r process. In addition, 144Sm is p nuclei in nuclear astrophysics. The measurement of these can help us to better understand the results of relevant photonuclear reaction experiments. On the other hand, 149Sm is a 235U fission product with a 1% yield, its cross sections are important to reactor neutronics. In this work, the neutron capture yield of the natural samarium target was measured at the back-streaming white neutron beamline (Back-n) of the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), and the resonance parameters were analyzed by SAMMY code. The resonance peaks and the neutron separation energies contributed by the different isotopes are considered individually. The results of the capture yield found signs of the possibility of two resonance peaks at 8 eV, which awaits further experimental examination. Cross-section was calculated according to resonance parameters and was compared with other experimental results and evaluation databases of ENDF/B-VIII.0 and CENDL-3.2. A clear difference between ENDF/B VIII.0 and CENDL-3.2 database appears at 23.2 eV, the experimental result at this energy is smaller than data of ENDF/B VIII.0 database but CENDL-3.2 database. Optically addressable spin defects in wide-bandage semiconductors as promising systems for quantum information and sensing applications have attracted more and more attention recently. Spin defects in two-dimensional materials are supposed to have unique superiority in quantum sensing since their atomatic thickness. Here, we demonstrate that the negatively boron charged vacancy (V$ _\text{B}^{-} $) with good spin properties in hexagonal boron nitride can be generated by ion implantation. We carry out optically detected magnetic resonance measurements at room temperature to characterize the spin properties of V$ _\text{B}^{-} $ defects, showing zero-filed splitting of $ \sim $ 3.47 GHz. We compare the photoluminescence intensity and spin properties of V$ _\text{B}^{-} $ defects generated by different implantation parameters, such as fluence, energy and ion species. With proper parameters, we can create V$ _\text{B}^{-} $ defects successfully with high probability. Our results provide a simple and practicable method to create spin defects in hBN, which is of great significance for integrated hBN-based devices.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) has recently been demonstrated to contain optically polarized and detected electron spins that can be utilized for implementing qubits and quantum sensors in nanolayered-devices. Understanding the coherent dynamics of microwave driven spins in hBN is of crucial importance for advancing these emerging new technologies. Here, we demonstrate and study the Rabi oscillation and related dynamical phenomena of the negatively charged boron vacancy ($\rm V_B^-$) spins in hBN. We report on different dynamics of the $\rm V_B^-$ spins at weak and strong magnetic fields. In the former case the defect behaves like a single electron spin system, while in the latter case it behaves like a multi-spin system exhibiting the multiple-frequency dynamical oscillation like clear beat in Ramsey fringes. We also carry out theoretical simulations for the spin dynamics of $\rm V_B^-$ and reveal that the nuclear spins can be driven via the strong electric-nuclear coupling existing in $\rm V_B^-$ center, which can be modulated by the magnetic field and microwave field., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) has attracted large attentions as platforms for realizations for integrated nanophotonics and collective effort has been focused on the spin defect centers. Here, the temperature dependence of the resonance spectrum in the range of 5-600 K is investigated. The zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameter D is found to decrease monotonicly with increasing temperature and can be described by Varshni empirical equation perfectly, while E almost does not change. We systematically study the differences among different hBN nanopowders and provide an evidence of edge effects on ODMR of VB- defects. Considering the proportional relation between D and reciprocal of lattice volume, the thermal expansion might be the dominant reason for energy-level shifts. We also demonstrate that the VB- defects still exist stably at least at 600 K. Moreover, we propose a scheme for detecting laser intensity using the VB- defects in hBN nanopowders, which is based on the obvious dependence of its D value on laser intensity. Our results are helpful to gain insight into the spin properties of VB- and for the realizations of miniaturized, integrated thermal sensor.

The experiment data generated by the EAST device is getting larger and larger, and it is necessary to monitor the MDSplus data storage server on EAST. In order to facilitate the management of users on the MDSplus server, a real-time monitoring log analysis system is needed. The data processing framework adopted by this log analysis system is the Spark Streaming framework in Spark ecosphere, whose real-time streaming data is derived from MDSplus logs. The framework also makes use of key technologies such as log monitoring, aggregation and distribution with framework likes Flume and Kafka which makes it possible for MDSplus mass log data processing power. The system can process tens of millions of unprocessed MDSplus log information at a second level, then model the log information and display it on the web. This report introduces the design and implementation of the overall architecture of real time data access log analysis system based on spark. Experimental results show that the system is proved to be with steady and reliable performance and has an important application value to the management of fusion experiment data. In this paper, lightweight metastructures are designed consisting of prismatic tensegrity building blocks which have excellent strength-to-weight ratio and also enable unique compression-torsion coupling. A theoretical model with coupled axial-torsional stiffness matrix is first developed to study the band structures of the proposed lightweight metastructures. Unit cell designs based on both Bragg scattering and local resonance mechanism are investigated to generate bandgaps at desired frequency ranges. Broadband full-wave attenuation is found in the tensegrity metastructure with special opposite-chirality unit cells. Furthermore, tunable stiffness in the prismatic tensegrity structure is investigated and 'small-on-large' tunability in the tensegrity metastructure is achieved by harnessing the geometrically nonlinear deformation through an external control torque. Prestress adjustment for fine tuning of the band structure is also investigated. Finally, frequency response tests on finite metastructures are preformed to validate their wave attenuation ability as well as their wave propagation tunability. The proposed tensegrity metastructures could be very useful in various engineering applications where lightweight and tunable structures with broadband vibration suspension and wave attenuation ability are in high demand., Comment: 11 figures

We report on the magnetic properties of monovacancy defects in neutron-irradiated graphite, probed by $^{13}$C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The bulk paramagnetism of the defect moments is revealed by the temperature dependence of the NMR frequency shift and spectral linewidth, both of which follow a Curie behavior, in agreement with measurements of the macroscopic magnetization. Compared to pristine graphite, the fluctuating hyperfine fields generated by the defect moments lead to an enhancement of the $^{13}$C nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_{1}$ by about two orders of magnitude. With an applied magnetic field of 7.1 T, the temperature dependence of $1/T_{1}$ below about 10 K can well be described by a thermally activated form, $1/T_{1}\propto\exp(-\Delta/k_{B}T)$, yielding a singular Zeeman energy of ($0.41\pm0.01$) meV, in excellent agreement with the sole presence of polarized, non-interacting defect moments., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

The decay of the proton-rich nucleus $^{22}$Si was studied by a silicon array coupled with germanium clover detectors. Nine charged-particle groups are observed and most of them are recognized as $\beta$-delayed proton emission. A charged-particle group at 5600 keV is identified experimentally as $\beta$-delayed two-proton emission from the isobaric analog state of $^{22}$Al. Another charged-particle emission without any $\beta$ particle at the low energy less than 300 keV is observed. The half-life of $^{22}$Si is determined as 27.5 (18) ms. The experimental results of $\beta$-decay of $^{22}$Si are compared and in nice agreement with shell-model calculations. The mass excess of the ground state of $^{22}$Si deduced from the experimental data shows that three-nucleon (3N) forces with repulsive contributions have significant effects on nuclei near the proton drip line., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

The $\beta$ decay of the drip-line nucleus $^{20}$Mg gives important information on resonances in $^{20}$Na, which are relevant for the astrophysical $rp$-process. A detailed $\beta$ decay spectroscopic study of $^{20}$Mg was performed by a continuous-implantation method. A detection system was specially developed for charged-particle decay studies, giving improved spectroscopic information including the half-life of $^{20}$Mg, the excitation energies, the branching ratios, and the log $ft$ values for the states in $^{20}$Na populated in the $\beta$ decay of $^{20}$Mg. A new proton branch was observed and the corresponding excited state in $^{20}$Na was proposed. The large isospin asymmetry for the mirror decays of $^{20}$Mg and $^{20}$O was reproduced, as well. However, no conclusive conclusion can be draw about the astrophysically interesting 2645~keV resonance in $^{20}$Na due to the limited statistics.

This paper is concerned with the state estimation problem for genetic regulatory networks with time-varying delays and reaction-diffusion terms under Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is assumed that the nonlinear regulation function is of the Hill form. The purpose of this paper is to design a state observer to estimate the concentrations of mRNA and protein through available measurement outputs. By introducing new integral terms in a novel Lyapunov--Krasovskii functional and employing Wirtinger-based integral inequality, Wirtinger's inequality, Green's identity, convex combination approach, and reciprocally convex combination approach, an asymptotic stability criterion of the error system is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The obtained stability criterion depends on the upper bounds of the delays and their derivatives. It should be highlight that if the set of LMIs are feasible, the desired observer exists and can be determined. Finally, two numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed designed scheme.
