14. Effect of drought stress on the population dynamics of Bradysia cellarum.

Abstract

[Objectives] To determine the effect of drought stress on the growth, development, reproduction and population dynamics of Bradysia cellarum Frey. [Methods] Based on an age-stage, two-sex life table, the life table and fecundity parameters of B. cellarum were calculated under dry and wet soil conditions. The effects of drought stress were further verified using a drought treatment experiment during the adult stage. [Results] Drought treatment significantly prolonged the developmental duration of the egg, 1st instar, 2nd instar and pupal, stages relative to the control group (P<0.05). Furthermore, female fecundity was 37.8% less than that of the control group. The net reproductive rate (R0), intrinsic growth rate (r) and limited growth rate (A) were also significantly less in the drought treatment group than in the control (P<0.05). The oviposition rate and number of eggs laid by the drought treatment group were 5% and 1.30, respectively, significantly less than the corresponding values of 100% and 85.50 for the control group (P<0.05). Eggs failed to hatch when adults were unable to obtain juice from chives. [Conclusion] The population dynamics of B. cellarum are adversely affected by drought conditions and populations are unable to survive if the relative soil moisture content is 10% or less. These results provide a scientific basis for controlling B. cellarum through managing soil moisture content. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In the treatment of 63 cases of depression, by bilateral Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (Ex-HN 1), Juque (CV 14) and Neiguan (PC 6) as the main acupoints, based upon pattern identification, with bilateral Zhigou (TE 6), Zusanli (ST 36), Yanglingquan (GB 34) and Taichong (LR 3) added for liver qi stagnation and spleen deficiency, with bilateral Hegu (LI 4), Xuehai (SP 10), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taichong (LR 3) added for stagnation of liver blood, with bilateral Shenmen (HT 7), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6) and Taibai (SP 3) added for deficiency in both the heart and spleen, and with bilateral Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Taibai (SP 3), Taixi (KI 3) and Guanyuan (CV 4), by moxibustion on Guanyuan (CV 4) and needling techniques on the rest acupoints, the results showed clinical cured in 21 cases, remarkable effect in 18 cases, improvement in 20 cases and failure in 4 cases, in the treatment from 13 times to 45 times, at the average treatments of 26 times.

35. Fabrication and characterization of multi-scale coated boron powders with improved combustion performance: A brief review

Abstract

Boron has high mass and volume calorific values, but it is difficult to ignite and has low combustion efficiency. This literature review summarizes the strategies that are used to solve the above-mentioned problems, which include coatings of boron by using fluoride compounds, energetic composites, metal fuels, and metal oxides. Coating techniques include recrystallization, dual-solvent, phase transfer, electrospinning, etc. As one of the effective coating agents, the fluorine compounds can react with the oxide shell of boron powder. In comparison, the energetic composites can effectively improve the flame temperature of boron powder and enhance the evaporation efficiency of oxide film as a condensed product. Metals and metal oxides would react with boron powder to form metal borides with a lower ignition point, which could reduce its ignition temperature.

36. Preparation of 3,4-dihydropyrimidones viaBiginelli reaction in efficient and recyclable PEG1000-DAIL/toluene catalyst-medium combined thermoregulated biphasic system

Abstract

A facile and efficient protocol for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidones viaone-pot Biginelli reaction in PEG1000-DAIL/toluene system was developed. PEG1000-DAIL/toluene mixture is a temperature-driven reversible biphasic system, which promises the fully display of catalytic activity and simple recycle of PEG1000-DAIL. As a result, PEG1000-DAIL/toluene mixture showed catalyst-medium double-duty in the Biginelli reaction and afforded corresponding 3,4-dihydropyrimidones in excellent yields of 80%–95% for 20 examples. No obvious loss of catalytic activity was observed even after 10 recycling runs.

Abstract

Ammonium dinitramide (ADN) is considered as a potential substitute for ammonium perchlorate in energetic materials due to its high density, positive oxygen balance, and halogen-free characteristics. However, its application has been severely limited because of its strong hygroscopicity, difficult storage, and incompatibility with isocyanate curing agents. In order to better bloom the advantages of the highly energetic and environment-friendly ADN in the fields of energetic materials, an in-depth analysis of the current situation and discussion of key research points are particularly important. In this paper, a detailed overview on the synthesis, thermal decomposition, hygroscopic mechanism, and anti-hygroscopicity of ADN has been discussed, its application in powders and explosives are also presented, and its future research directions are proposed.
