1. Interconversion between block coherence and multipartite entanglement in many-body systems

Abstract

Coherence is intrinsically related to projective measurement. When the fixed projective measurement involves higher-rank projectors, the coherence resource is referred to as block coherence, which comes from the superposition of orthogonal subspaces. Here, we establish a set of quantitative relations for the interconversion between block coherence and multipartite entanglement under the framework of the block-incoherent operations. It is found that the converted multipartite entanglement is upper bounded by the initial block coherence of single-party system. Moreover, the generated multipartite entanglement can be transferred to its subsystems and restored to block coherence of the initial single-party system by means of local block-incoherent operations and classical communication. In addition, when only the coarse-grained quantum operations are accessible for the ancillary subsystems, we further demonstrate that a lossless resource interconversion is still realizable, and give a concrete example in three four-level systems. Our results provide a versatile approach to utilize different quantum resources in a cyclic fashion.

Abstract

BACKGROUND The analysis of gas chemical composition in rock and mineral can provide important information and constraints for the study of different geochemical processes of lithospheric mantle, redox environment in the earth, and water circulation in the deep earth. Heating rock and ore samples to remove gas is a common experimental method. A single quartz glass tube is used as the sample tube. Irregular voids in quartz glass structure make gas easy to diffuse and permeate at high temperature. The double vacuum furnace tubes consisting of molybdenum and tantalum crucibles are generally used for the analysis of rare gas isotope composition, but seldom used for the analysis of gas chemical composition. The device has a complex structure, is not easy to assemble and disassemble, and is easily damaged. OBJECTIVES To solve the problems contained in the sample-filling tube proposed in the background research. METHODS A double vacuum sampling furnace tube composed of quartz glass and metal parts had been developed. The furnace tube had the characteristics of small size, easy assembly, disassembly and movement. Under the same experimental conditions, the result was compared with that of a single quartz glass tube. RESULTS H2 concentration measured by the double vacuum sampling tube was higher than that measured by the single quartz glass tube under the same experimental conditions, no matter which type of sample was heated to degas at 500℃ or 950℃. CONCLUSIONS The closure of the double vacuum furnace tube is better than that of the single quartz glass tube, which is conducive to obtain more real gas chemical composition in the sample.

Abstract

Introduction Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for approximately 85% of all lung cancer. The 5-year survival rate is about 14% for stage IIIA NSCLC, while it is about 5% [...], Cancer stem-like cells (CSLCs) acquire enhanced immune checkpoint responses to evade immune cell killing and promote tumor progression. Here we showed that signal regulatory protein [gamma] (SIRP[gamma]) determined CSLC properties and immune evasiveness in a small population of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cancer cells. A [SIRP[gamma].sup.hi] population displayed CSLC properties and transmitted the immune escape signal through sustaining CD47 expression in both [SIRP[gamma].sup.hi] and [SIRP[gamma].sup.lo/-] tumor cells. SIRP[gamma] bridged MST1 and PP2A to facilitate MST1 dephosphorylation, resulting in Hippo/YAP activation and leading to cytokine release by CSLCs, which stimulated CD47 expression in LUAD cells and consequently inhibited tumor cell phagocytosis. SIRP[gamma] promoted tumor growth and metastasis in vivo through YAP signaling. Notably, SIRP[gamma] targeting with genetic SIRP[gamma] knockdown or a SIRP[gamma]-neutralizing antibody inhibited CSLC phenotypes and elicited phagocytosis that suppressed tumor growth in vivo. SIRPG was upregulated in human LUAD and its overexpression predicted poor survival outcome. Thus, SIRP'/11 cells serve as CSLCs and tumor immune checkpoint-initiating cells, propagating the immune escape signal to the entire cancer cell population. Our study identifies Hippo/YAP signaling as the first mechanism by which SIRP[gamma] is engaged and reveals that targeting SIRP[gamma] represents an immune- and CSLC-targeting strategy for lung cancer therapy.

Abstract

The corn planthopper, Peregrinus maidis, is an economically important pest of corn and sorghum. Here we report the initial steps towards developing a CRISPR-based control method, precision guided sterile insect technique (pgSIT), for this hemipteran pest. Specifically, we evaluated the potential of transformer-2 (tra-2) as a target for sterilizing insects. First, we identified tra-2 transcripts within our P. maidis transcriptome database and performed RNA interference (RNAi) to confirm functional conservation. RNAi-mediated knockdown of Pmtra-2 in nymphs transformed females into pseudomales with deformed ovipositors resembling male claspers. While males showed no overt difference in appearance, they were indeed sterile. Importantly, the results were similar to those observed in another planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens. We also used CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to assess the impact of tra-2 knockout in injectees. CRISPR-mediated knockout of Pmtra-2 had lethal effects on embryos, and hence not many injectees reached adulthood. However, mosaic knockout of Pmtra-2 did impact female and male fertility, which supports the use of tra-2 as a target for pgSIT in this hemipteran species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A formal [3 + 2] annulation of cyclohexadienone-tethered ynals is enabled by an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalyst, affording a tricyclo[6.2.1.04,11]undecane framework. This study represents the first demonstration of using C-C double bonds as the reaction partner in the NHC-catalyzed annulation of ynals. This strategy is characterized by mild reaction conditions and 100% atom economy as well as high catalytic performance and efficiency.
