Background: A variety of viruses can cause acute respiratory infections (ARIs), resulting in a high disease burden worldwide. To explore the dominant viruses and their prevalence characteristics in children with ARIs, comprehensive surveillance was carried out in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai. Methods: Between January 2013 and December 2022, the basic and clinical information, and respiratory tract specimens of 0–14 years old children with ARIs were collected in five sentinel hospitals in Shanghai Pudong. Each specimen was tested for eight respiratory viruses, and the positive rates of different age groups, case types (inpatient or outpatient) were analyzed. Results: In our study, 30.67% (1294/4219) children with ARIs were positive for at least one virus. Influenza virus (IFV) was the most commonly detected respiratory virus (349/4219, 8.27%), followed by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (217/4219, 5.14%), para‐influenza virus (PIV) (215/4219, 5.10%), and human coronavirus (HCoV, including 229E, OC43, NL63, and HKU1) (184/4219, 4.36%). IFV was the leading respiratory virus in outpatients aged 5–14 years (201/1673, 12.01%); RSV was the most prevalent respiratory virus in both inpatients (61/238, 25.63%) and outpatients (4/50, 8.00%) for ARI patients aged <6 months old. For PIV, HMPV, HCoV, and HRV, the risk of infection usually was higher among young children. Co‐infection with more than two viruses was seen in 3.25% (137/4219). Conclusions: IFV and RSV played important roles in ARIs among children, but the risk populations were different. Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is the leading cause of death worldwide. Ginsenoside Rd (GRd) has cardioprotective properties but its efficacy and mechanism of action in myocardial I/R injury have not been clarified. This study investigated GRd as a potent therapeutic agent for myocardial I/R injury. Oxygen-glucose deprivation and reperfusion (OGD/R) and left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery ligation were used to establish a myocardial I/R injury model in vitro and in vivo. In vivo, GRd significantly reduced the myocardial infarct size and markers of myocardial injury and improved the cardiac function in myocardial I/R injury mice. In vitro, GRd enhanced cell viability and protected the H9c2 rat cardiomyoblast cell line from OGD-induced injury GRd. The network pharmacology analysis predicted 48 potential targets of GRd for the treatment of myocardial I/R injury. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis indicated that the cardioprotective effects of GRd were closely related to inflammation and apoptosis mediated by the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Furthermore, GRd alleviated inflammation and cardiomyocyte apoptosis in vivo and inhibited OGD/R-induced apoptosis and inflammation in cardiomyocytes. GRd also increased PI3K and Akt phosphorylation, suggesting activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway, whereas LY294002, a PI3K inhibitor, blocked the GRd-induced inhibition of OGD/R-induced apoptosis and inflammation in H9c2 cells. The therapeutic effect of GRd in vivo and in vitro against myocardial I/R injury was primarily dependent on PI3K/Akt pathway activation to inhibit inflammation and cardiomyocyte apoptosis. To investigate the exposure to neonicotinoids by urinary biomonitoring in pregnant women from Wenzhou City, East China. We selected 432 pregnant women in Wenzhou City in 2022. A total of eight parent neonicotinoids and four metabolites were determined in single spot urine by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. Basic characteristics, physical activity, pre-pregnant body mass index, and intake of drinking water and food were investigated by the questionnaire. Health risk was assessed by hazard quotient (HQ) and hazard index (HI) based on human safety thresholds derived from different health endpoints. Neonicotinoids and their metabolites in urine had a detection frequency between 0 % and 80.1 %. At least one neonicotinoid or metabolite was detected in 93.5 % of urine samples. Except for clothianidin (51.2 %) and N-desmethyl-acetamiprid (80.1 %), the detection frequencies of other neonicotinoids and metabolites ranged from 0 % to 43.8 %. The summed concentrations of all neonicotinoids and their metabolites ranged from < LOD to 222.83 μg/g creatinine with the median concentration of 2.58 μg/g creatinine. Maternal age, educational level, occupation, household income, screen time, and pre-pregnant body mass index were associated with detection frequencies or concentrations of neonicotinoids and their metabolites. Pregnant women with higher consumption frequencies of wheat, fresh vegetable, shellfish, fresh milk, and powdered milk had higher detection frequencies of neonicotinoids and their metabolites. Both HQ and HI were less than one. Overall, pregnant women in Wenzhou City showed a notable frequency of exposure to at least one neonicotinoid, although the exposure frequency for each specific neonicotinoid was generally low. Background. Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias. Wenxin Keli (WXKL) is a Chinese herbal extract widely used in China to treat patients with atrial fibrillation. This study aimed to outline and summarize the current evidence of systematic reviews (SRs)/meta-analyses (MAs) investigating the clinical efficacy of WXKL in atrial fibrillation. Methods. From inception to December 2021, 6 electronic databases in English and Chinese were searched for potential SRs/MAs. The GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation), PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses) checklist, and AMSTAR-2 (Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews-2) were used to evaluate the quality of the evidence, reporting, and methodology of SRs/MAs regarding WXKL for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Results. A total of 8 SRs/MAs were included in the present study. The results of AMSTAR-2 and PRISMA were unsatisfactory for the main insufficiency founded in registration and protocol, search strategy, excluded study statement, evidence certainty assessment, and funding and conflict of interest information. All the included SRs/MAs were assessed as very low in methodological quality. Moreover, 23 outcomes were evaluated by GRADE for the certainty of evidence, and 2 outcomes were assessed as moderate, while 15 were low and 6 were very low. Risk of bias and publication bias contributed to the downgrading. Conclusion. WXKL may be clinically efficacious and safe for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. This finding, however, should be regarded with caution because of the low level of evidence and methodological qualities of the involved SRs/MAs. More standardized, rigorous, and comprehensive SRs/MAs and randomized control trials are needed to provide strong evidence to reach more convincing conclusions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

High altitude could influence the level of exposure to neonicotinoids, but relevant data remain limited for people living in Tibet. We investigated 476 Tibetan pregnant women from Lhasa of Tibet, China in 2021 and measured eight neonicotinoids and four metabolites in urine. Food consumption was investigated by a food frequency questionnaire. Health risk was assessed by using hazard quotient (HQ) and hazard index (HI) based on acceptable daily dose or chronic reference dose. Neonicotinoids and metabolites were overall detected in 56.5% of urine samples with a median concentration being 0.73 μg g−1 creatinine. Four neonicotinoids or metabolites were detected in more than 10% of urine samples, including N-desmethyl-acetamiprid (47.5%), clothianidin (15.5%), thiamethoxam (16.0%), and imidacloprid (10.5%). Annual household income, family smoking, and pre-pregnancy body mass index were associated with the detection frequencies of neonicotinoids. Pregnant women with a higher consumption frequency of wheat, rice, fresh vegetable, fresh fruit, beef and mutton, fresh milk, yoghourt, candy and chocolate, or carbonated drinks had a higher detection frequency of neonicotinoids. International travel may facilitate the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID‐19). The study describes clusters of COVID‐19 cases within Chinese tour groups travelling in Europe January 16–28. We compared characteristics of cases and non‐cases to determine transmission dynamics. The index case travelled from Wuhan, China, to Europe on 16 January 2020, and to Shanghai, China, on 27 January 2020, within a tour group (group A). Tour groups with the same outbound flight (group B) or the same tourism venue (group D) and all Chinese passengers on the inbound flight (group C) were investigated. The outbreak involved 11 confirmed cases, 10 suspected cases and six tourists who remained healthy. Group A, involving seven confirmed cases and six suspected cases, consisted of familial transmission followed by propagative transmission. There was less pathogenicity with propagative transmission than with familial transmission. Disease was transmitted in shared outbound flights, shopping venues within Europe and inbound flight back to China. The novel coronavirus caused clustered cases of COVID‐19 in tour groups. When tourism and travel opens up, governments will need to improve screening at airports and consider increased surveillance of tour groups—particularly those with older tour members. Neonicotinoids are the most widely used insecticides. Laboratory studies have suggested that neonicotinoids are one potential obesogen, but relevant data are limited in human. To examine the association between exposure to neonicotinoids and childhood obesity. We investigated 442 children in Shanghai, East China and measured eight neonicotinoids (thiamethoxam, clothianidin, acetamiprid, imidacloprid, thiacloprid, nitenpyram, dinotefuran, and imidaclothiz) and four metabolites (N-desmethyl-thiamethoxam, N-desmethyl-clothianidin, N-desmethyl-acetamiprid, and 5-OH-imidacloprid) in urine. Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were used to identify general overweight/obesity and central obesity, respectively. Linear and logistic regression models based on generalized estimating equations were used to investigate the associations of urinary neonicotinoids and metabolites with BMI z-score, WC z-score, general overweight/obesity, and central obesity. Children with a positive detection of clothianidin and its metabolite had a marginally higher BMI z-score (regression coefficient (β): 0.08, 95% confidence interval (95% CI): 0.01, 0.14) after adjusted for relevant covariates. After creatinine-adjusted concentration was trichotomized, compared to children with a negative detection, children in the high urinary concentration of acetamiprid and its metabolite had a low BMI z-score (β: −0.19, 95%CI: −0.30, −0.08), children in the medium urinary concentration of neonicotinoids and metabolites other than thiamethoxam, clothianidin, acetamiprid, and their metabolites had a marginally higher BMI z-score (β: 0.25, 95%CI: 0.03, 0.46), a higher WC z-score (β: 0.24, 95%CI: 0.14, 0.33), and a higher odds of central obesity (odds ratio (OR): 2.16, 95% CI: 1.28, 3.63), and children in the medium urinary concentration of all neonicotinoids and metabolites had a higher odds of central obesity (OR: 1.55, 95%CI: 1.04, 2.33). Some associations showed sex- and age- related differences. Urinary neonicotinoids and metabolites were found to be differently associated with obesity-related indexes, which suggested that exposure to neonicotinoids might have a mixed effect on childhood obesity. The problem of household energy consumption (HEC) is gradually becoming prominent in the current situation of rough-style energy development. Household structure type plays a vital role in examining HEC heterogeneity. Based on data from the China Integrated Social Survey, this study examined the heterogeneity of household structure type and other factors on HEC through quantile regression. The conclusions show that the education level of household members, income, weekly working hours, days of residence, and home ownership contribute significantly to HEC. In contrast, the average age of the resident population is negatively associated with HEC. In addition, childless households and "spouse + parent" households have the lowest and highest effects on HEC, respectively, and a "neutralizing effect" occurs at the higher quartiles of HEC for three-generation households. There is heterogeneity in the impact of HEC among family members of different genders at the same age; the person with the primary consumers of HEC in the household is not always female, and males over 46 years of age replace females in the same age group as the primary consumers of HEC at the high HEC quartile, which is related to the age group. The rapid development of urbanization in China inevitably leads to a sharp increase in building energy consumption, and Passive House (PH) have received much attention in China in recent years. In this paper, the annual energy demand (AED) and summer discomfort hours (SUH) of PH are used as optimization objectives to establish a set of design solutions for multi-objective optimization (MTO) and economic analysis of a PH in Shandong Province, China. It is found that (1) the algorithm based on nearest neighbor component analysis (NCA) feature extraction applies to the sensitivity analysis of multivariate nonlinear high-dimensional data, and the NCA-GA-RBF neural network technique is proposed, which has significantly improved the goodness of fit and generalization ability for AED and SUH. (2) The NSGA-II genetic algorithm is used for the optimization search, and the results show that the overall improvement rates of AED and SUH are 25.5% and 21.6%, respectively, among the nine solutions after comprehensive evaluation; (3) Finally, the optimal scheme of energy saving and the optimal scheme of the economy are selected for economic evaluation. By comparing the economics of the two options and the improvement rates of AEDs and SUHs, the guidelines for design decision-makers are provided. Glaucoma is a disease with characteristic optic neuropathy and loss of vision, leading to blindness, and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is the most common glaucoma type throughout the world. Genetic susceptibility is the main factor in POAG, and most susceptibility genes cause changes in microRNA expression and function, thereby leading to POAG occurrence and development. Increasing evidence indicates that many microRNAs are involved in the regulation of intraocular pressure (IOP) and play an important role in the increase in IOP in POAG. Additionally, microRNA is closely related to optic nerve damage factors (mechanical stress, hypoxia and inflammation). Urban household Electricity Consumption (UHEC) is receiving more and more attention in terms of energy saving and emission reduction. Currently, China lacks a mature methodology to explore the impacts and mechanisms of UHEC. This study selects physical characteristics, usage, and equipment factors associated with urban domestic dwellings to address these issues to develop an adequate theoretical model. The extended STIRPAT model was used to explore how each factor affects UHEC. Stepwise regression was then used to identify the mechanisms of influence between each factor and UHEC and to investigate the direct and mediating effects between floor area and UHEC. The results show that floor area, urbanization rate, the proportion of older people, per capita income, and unit energy consumption significantly contribute to UHEC. The direct effect of floor area on UHEC reaches 13.5%. GDP per capita and urbanization rate have a strong mediating role, at 47.8% and 28.1%, respectively, and the mediating contribution of unit energy consumption is 11.8%. A more novel factor, namely single-person households, shows a significant masking effect. Growth Differentiation Factor‐15 (GDF15) is a circulating polypeptide linked to cellular stress and metabolic adaptation. GDF15's half‐life is ~3 h and activates the glial cell line‐derived neurotrophic factor family receptor alpha‐like (GFRAL) receptor expressed in the area postrema. To characterize sustained GFRAL agonism on food intake (FI) and body weight (BW), we tested a half‐life extended analog of GDF15 (Compound H [CpdH]) suitable for reduced dosing frequency in obese cynomolgus monkeys. Animals were chronically treated once weekly (q.w.) with CpdH or long‐acting GLP‐1 analog dulaglutide. Mechanism‐based longitudinal exposure‐response modeling characterized effects of CpdH and dulaglutide on FI and BW. The novel model accounts for both acute, exposure‐dependent effects reducing FI and compensatory changes in energy expenditure (EE) and FI occurring over time with weight loss. CpdH had linear, dose‐proportional pharmacokinetics (terminal half‐life ~8 days) and treatment caused exposure‐dependent reductions in FI and BW. The 1.6 mg/kg CpdH reduced mean FI by 57.5% at 1 week and sustained FI reductions of 31.5% from weeks 9–12, resulting in peak reduction in BW of 16 ± 5%. Dulaglutide had more modest effects on FI and peak BW loss was 3.8 ± 4.0%. Longitudinal modeling of both the FI and BW profiles suggested reductions in BW observed with both CpdH and dulaglutide were fully explained by exposure‐dependent reductions in FI without increase in EE. Upon verification of the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic relationship established in monkeys and humans for dulaglutide, we predicted that CpdH could reach double digit BW loss in humans. China is a major country of producing, exporting and consuming honey. However, the data about antibiotic residues in honey and their health risk remain limited. This study collected 94 honey samples circulating in the Chinese market, determined 20 common antibiotics from four categories in relation to the characteristics of honey samples, and assessed the potential human health risk. Antibiotics were overall found in 84.0 % of honey with a median concentration of 0.09 ng/g. Two or more antibiotics were simultaneously found in 56.2 % of honey. Quinolones were found in 69.1 % of honey, followed by sulfonamides (44.7 %), tetracyclines (26.6 %), and phenicols (1.1 %). Honey produced in China and honey with a lower price had higher detection frequencies and/or concentrations of quinolones, sulfonamides, or sum of all antibiotics. A lower detection frequency was seen for sum of all antibiotics in honey from commercial than non-commercial crops. The maximum HIs based on microbiological and toxicological effects were 1.80 × 10−2 and 3.20 × 10−5 for adults, respectively and were 1.59 × 10−2 and 2.82 × 10−5 for children, respectively. These results indicated an extensive antibiotic residue in honey circulating in the Chinese market, which varied with production place, sale price, and commercial category of nectariferous plants, and a low health risk on human. • Triclosan and triclocarban were found in 40%-50% of urine samples in Chinese children. • Triclosan showed a positive association trend with central obesity. • Triclocarban was positively associated with general and central obesity. • A positive exposure–response relationship was seen between triclocarban and obesity. • Triclocarban was associated with higher values of BMI and waist circumference. Laboratory studies have suggested that triclosan and triclocarban can influence energy metabolism by multiple mechanisms and are potential obesogens, but the effect on obesity risk has not been well investigated in human. To examine the associations of triclosan and triclocarban in urine with childhood obesity. We investigated 458 school children aged 7–11 years who entered a dynamic cohort of children established in Shanghai in 2019 and 2020. Triclosan and triclocarban were determined in first morning urine by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were used to identify general overweight/obesity and central obesity, respectively. Logistic regression and linear models of generalized estimating equations (GEE) were used to investigate the association between urinary triclosan and triclocarban with obesity prevalence. After adjusting for potential confounders, children with detectable triclocarban in urine had a higher proportion of general overweight/obesity (odds ratio (OR): 1.84; 95% confidential interval (95% CI): 1.19, 2.85) or central obesity (OR: 1.71; 95% CI: 1.03, 2.84). Compared to the low tertile, children in the median tertile of triclosan showed a higher proportion of central obesity (OR: 1.78; 95 %CI: 0.98, 3.24) and children in the high tertile of triclocarban had a higher proportion of general overweight/obesity (OR: 2.25; 95 %CI: 1.31, 3.88) and central obesity (OR: 2.08; 95 %CI: 1.12, 3.87). When the tertiles of triclocarban in urine were treated as a continuous variable, a positive exposure–response relationship was found with general overweight/obesity (OR: 1.50; 95 %CI: 1.15, 1.96) and central obesity (OR: 1.44; 95 %CI: 1.06, 1.95). Multiple linear regression showed a positive exposure–response relationship between triclocarban and BMI (β: 0.45; 95 %CI: 0.11, 0.80) values. Exposure to triclosan and triclocarban was associated with increased risk of childhood obesity. Given the cross-sectional design, more studies are needed to interrogate these findings. A novel retinoic acid (RA)-inducible cytochrome P450 (P450 RAI or CYP26), previously cloned from human, zebra fish, and mouse, functions in the metabolism of all-trans-RA to polar metabolites including 4-hydroxy-RA and 4-oxo-RA. To further study CYP26 in the rat model, we first cloned rat CYP26 cDNA. The nucleotide sequence predicts a 497-amino-acid protein whose sequence is 95% identical to mouse and 91% homologous to human CYP26. Animal studies showed that CYP26 mRNA expression is very low (0.01±0.008;P<0.05) in vitamin-A-deficient rats compared to pair-fed vitamin-A-sufficient rats (defined as 1.0). In a kinetic study, vitamin-A-deficient rats were treated with ∼100 μg of all-trans-RA and liver was collected after 3–72 h for analysis of CYP26 mRNA by quantitative real-time PCR. Liver CYP26 mRNA increased to nearly 10-fold above control after 3 h (P<0.01), reaching a peak of about 2000-fold greater around 10 h (P<0.001) and then decreased rapidly. The CYP26 dose response to RA was nearly linear (R2=0.9638). Additionally, significant regulation of CYP26 gene expression was observed in the vitamin-A-deficient, control, and RA-treated condition in lung, testis, and small intestine. We conclude that CYP26 mRNA expression is dynamically regulated in vivo by diet and RA in hepatic and extrahepatic tissues. The long-term down-regulation of CYP26 in retinoid deficiency may be critical for conserving RA, while the acute up-regulation of CYP26 may be important for preventing a deleterious overshoot of RA derived from either dietary or exogenous sources. Background. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) refers to the diabetes first discovered or occurring during pregnancy. The incidence of gestational diabetes in China is about 1%–5%, with an increasing trend in recent years. Objective. To observe the effect of evidence-based diet nursing on intestinal flora and maternal and infant prognosis in patients with gestational diabetes. Methods. One hundred and thirty patients with GDM admitted to our hospital from January 2020 to January 2022 were selected and divided into two groups according to the intervention method, with 65 cases in each group. The control group was given routine nursing plus diet nursing, while the observation group was given evidence-based nursing plus diet nursing. The changes of blood glucose index and intestinal flora before and after intervention in the two groups were detected, and the compliance behavior, pregnancy outcome, and perinatal outcome in the two groups were statistically analyzed. Results. After the intervention, the fasting blood glucose, 2 h postprandial blood glucose, and HbA1c in the two groups gradually decreased (P < 0.05). Further comparison between the groups showed that the fasting blood glucose, 2 h postprandial blood glucose, and HbA1c in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). After intervention, the ratios of Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Bifidobacterium to E. coli in the two groups gradually increased (P < 0.05). Furthermore, comparison between the groups showed that the ratios of Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Bifidobacterium to E. coli in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The blood glucose rate, regular prenatal examination rate, and diet control rate of the observation group were 100.00%, 100.00%, and 95.38%, respectively, which were higher than 89.23%, 92.31%, and 84.62% of the control group, and the difference was significant (P < 0.05). The pregnancy infection rate and cesarean section rate in the observation group were 0.00% and 33.85%, respectively, which were lower than 6.15% and 60.00% in the control group, and the difference was significant (P < 0.05).The premature delivery rate and polyhydramnios rate in the observation group were 3.08% and 1.54%, respectively, which were not significantly different from 6.15% to 7.69% in the control group (P > 0.05). The rates of macrosomia, neonatal hypoglycemia, and neonatal hyperbilirubinemia in the observation group were 1.54%, 3.08%, and 9.23%, respectively, which were lower than those in the control group (10.77%, 13.85%, and 23.08%), and the differences were significant (P < 0.05). The fetal malformation rate and neonatal asphyxia rate in the observation group were 0.00% and 1.54%, respectively, which were not significantly different from 1.54% to 7.69% in the control group (P > 0.05). The application of evidence-based care combined with dietary care in GDM patients can improve intestinal flora, control blood glucose, improve patient compliance behavior, and improve maternal and infant outcomes. We sought to analyze the association between miR-146a rs2910164 G > C polymorphism and susceptibility to lung cancer using a meta-analysis of case-control studies. We systematically searched for studies reporting on the relationship between miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism and the risk of lung cancer in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases. We then calculated pooled odds ratios (ORs), at 95% confidence interval (CI) to assess the aforementioned relationship. All the data were analyzed using statistical packages implemented in R version 3.6.2 (R Project for Statistical Computing), run in RStudio version 1.2.5033. A total of fifteen studies, comprising 6506 cases and 6576 controls, were enrolled in this meta-analysis. Significant associations were observed between miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism and the risk of lung cancer based on overall pooled subjects under the allele, heterozygous, homozygous, dominant, and recessive genetic models (C vs. G: OR = 1.27, 95% CI: 1.12–1.44; GC vs. GG: OR = 1.23, 95% CI: 1.03–1.46; CC vs. GG: OR = 1.51, 95% CI: 1.18–1.93; GC + CC vs. GG: OR = 1.33, 95% CI: 1.10–1.61; CC vs. GG + GC: OR = 1.32, 95% CI: 1.13–1.53). Sixty norovirus outbreaks that occurred in Pudong District, Shanghai in 2017 and affected 959 people were summarised. Of the outbreaks, 29 (48.3%), 27 (45.0%), and 4 (6.7%) occurred in kindergartens, primary schools, and middle schools, respectively. Although the total number of outbreaks peaked in March (13/60, 21.7%), outbreaks in kindergartens and primary schools peaked in April (6/29, 20.7%) and March (8/27, 29.6%), respectively. Primary schools had the highest median number of cases per outbreak (19) and the highest proportion of cases (54.6%). The male-to-female case ratio differed among school classifications, with the highest male case ratio (69.2%) occurring in middle schools. Primary symptoms also differed across the school classifications. Molecular virology analysis showed that a single viral strain caused each outbreak at each school. In turn, 50.6, 28.8, and 20.6% of cases were infected by GII.4, GII.2, and GII.17, respectively. Vomiting was seen in 98.2, 97.3, and 88.6% of the subjects infected with noroviruses GII.17, GII.4, and GII.2, respectively, and nausea in 73.6, 43.9, and 39.0%. In conclusion, noroviruses mainly affect primary school and kindergarten students. Background. Qiliqiangxin (QLQX) capsules are a commonly used proprietary Chinese medicine for the adjuvant treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF) in China. In recent years, several randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have reported on the efficacy and safety of QLQX combined with sacubitril/valsartan for CHF. Objective. The purpose of this study was to systematically analyze the clinical efficacy and safety of QLQX combined with sacubitril/valsartan in the management of CHF and to provide clinicians as well as scientists with optimal evidence-based medical evidence. Methods. We searched RCTs to evaluate the efficacy and safety of QLQX combined with sacubitril/valsartan in the treatment of CHF in the Wanfang Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Journal Database, PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases from their inception until January 8, 2022. RCTs on QLQX in combination with sacubitril/valsartan for CHF were included. The outcome measures considered were total effective rate, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD), 6-minute walking distance (6-MWD), and adverse events. The quality of the included RCTs was assessed thereafter using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. RevMan 5.3 software was used to conduct the meta-analysis. Results. The meta-analysis included 17 trials involving 1427 CHF patients. The results indicated that with sacubitril/valsartan administration combined with QLQX treatment, the total effective rate (relative risk (RR) = 1.24; 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.17, 1.31); p < 0.01), LVEF (mean difference (MD) = 6.20; 95% CI (5.36, 7.05; p < 0.01)), and 6-MWD (MD = 55.87; 95% CI (40.66, 71.09); p < 0.01) of CHF patients were significantly increased, and the LVEDD value of CHF patients was noted to be significantly reduced (MD = −3.98; 95% CI (−4.47, −3.48); p < 0.01). Moreover, there was no increase in the number of adverse events during treatment (RR = 0.67; 95% CI (0.33, 1.34); p < 0.01). Conclusions. This study indicated that in CHF patients, on the basis of sacubitril/valsartan treatment, combination with QLQX can potentially enhance the total effective rate, improve LVEF and 6-MWD, and reduce LVEDD values, with good safety. • The seasonality of influenza activity in Shanghai, China after the 2009 A/H1N1 pandemic is complex. • Annual winter epidemics were found and lasted into spring in some years. • Co-circulation of A/H3N2, A/H1N1, and two lineages of influenza B contributed to the annual winter epidemics. • Semiannual epidemics in the summer, which were found in four of the six surveillance years, were only attributable to A/H3N2. • The current one-season vaccination program in Shanghai, China should be carefully reconsidered. Understanding the complexity of influenza subtype seasonality is critical to promoting a suitable vaccination program. The aim of this study was to identify and compare the seasonality and epidemiological features of seasonal influenza subtypes after the 2009 A/H1N1 pandemic and to lay a foundation for further investigation into the social and environmental factors affecting seasonal influenza virus transmission. Influenza-like illness (ILI) case surveillance was conducted in two sentinel hospitals in Pudong New Area, Shanghai between 2012 and 2018. Weekly data on ILI cases were analyzed. A time-series seasonal decomposition analysis was used to reveal the seasonality of influenza and epidemiological features among different subtypes. In total, 10 977 ILI patients were enrolled of whom 2385 (21.7%) had laboratory-confirmed influenza. Compared to influenza A (16.3%), influenza B (5.4%) was less frequently detected among the ILI patients (p < 0.001). Semiannual epidemic peaks were identified in four of the years during the 6-year study period, while only one annual epidemic peak was found in the other two years. An epidemic peak occurred in each winter season, and a secondary peak also occasionally occurred in summer or spring. A/H3N2 predominated in both summer and winter, while A/H1N1, B/Yamagata, and B/Victoria circulated almost exclusively in winter or spring. Two lineages of influenza B seemed to predominate in alternating years. This study highlights the complexity of seasonal influenza virus activity in a subtropical region of China, presenting both semiannual and annual epidemic peaks in different years. A series of Holocene charcoal concentrations (CC) records from a slope sedimentary section in Gonghe Basin, northeast Tibetan Plateau, are analyzed to investigate fire characteristics (e.g., frequency or magnitude) and their linkages with paleoclimate change and ancient human activities. The results reveal that changes in fire indicators are well correlated with paleoclimatic change during the past 10.0 ka BP. This pattern is characterized by lower CC in the warm and humid middle Holocene, and higher total CC in the cold, dry climate of the early and late Holocene. Meanwhile, an event characterized by abnormally high CC values at ∼3.6 ka BP, distinct from the above trend, indicates an anomalously high fire frequency which cannot easily be explained as the result of a climatic event. Alternatively, this event is noted to correspond closely with the time of rapid human occupation of the high elevation Tibetan Plateau. Many basic domestic and agricultural activities (e.g., slash-and-burn farming, cooking or heating.) have required fire in the hostile environment of the Tibetan Plateau; this is reflected in the higher CC following the spread of human habitation. Fire provides an important indicator of paleoclimatic change. However, little information relating to late Cenozoic fire history has been gathered in mid-latitude Asia (including Inner Asia and East Asia), a key region for understanding the development of the arid-monsoon climate system as well as the driving forces behind it. Here we first report the records of microcharcoal concentrations (MC) covering the Holocene (10–0 ka) and late Pleistocene (0.8–0 Ma), which we use to analyze the fire activity patterns at an orbital time scale; then we compile the late Cenozoic MC record to investigate the long-term fire history by analyzing four cores from the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) area, East Asia (representing 8–0 Ma) and three sites in Inner Asia (representing 18–2 Ma). The results show that the (i) MC remained higher during the relatively dry late Holocene/glacial stages than that during the humid middle Holocene/interglacial stages at individual sites; (ii) MC increased with time in both Inner Asia and East Asia after 18 and 8 Ma, respectively; and (iii) MC always remained higher in the dry Inner Asia than in the contemporaneous wet East Asia. All these characteristics imply that late Cenozoic fire occurrence in mid-latitude Asia experienced a gradual increasing trend along with the global temperature/ice volume change, and indicates a continuous aridification trend across mid-latitude Asia. On the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, mountain slope sediments provide a uniquely sensitive perspective on past climate changes. Here, we report a Holocene record of pollen and non-pollen palynomorphs based on compiled data sampled from one continuous alpine slope sediment section (3780 m a.s.l.) near the Gonghe Basin. In the assemblages, higher-order plants are dominant by herbs and shrubs, mainly including Chenopodiacaee, Asteraceae and Poaceae; broadleaved and gymnosperms are very rare. The lower-order (non-pollen) palynomorphs are from fungi, pteridophytes and bryophytes. Both pollen percentages and concentrations show roughly gradual decreasing trends (from ~ 70% to ~ 30% and ~ 10,000 grains/g to ~ 2000 grains/g, respectively), indicating a deteriorating climatic trend characterized by colder and drier. Also, four phases at 8.2–7.4, 5.8–5.3, 3.4–2.9 and 1.8–1.3 ka correlate well with the coldest events that occurred at high latitudes and/or over the Tibetan Plateau. Therefore, we argue that analysis of pollen and non-pollen palynomorphs together can offer an efficient way to reconstruct palaeoclimate changes especially in sedimentary environments that have poor pollen enrichment, such as mountain slopes on the northeast Tibetan Plateau. Introduction: Clinical and etiological characteristics of influenza-like illness (ILI) in outpatients is poorly understood in the southern temperate region of China. We conducted laboratory-based surveillance of viral etiology for ILI outpatients in Shanghai from January 2011 to December 2013. Materials and Methods: Clinical and epidemiological data from ILI outpatients, both children and adults, were collected. A total of 1970 nasopharyngeal swabs were collected and tested for 12 respiratory viruses using multiplex RT-PCR, and the data were analyzed anonymously. Results: All 12 respiratory viruses were detected in the specimens. At least one virus was detected in 32.4% of 1970 specimens analyzed, with 1.1% showing co-infections. The most frequently detected agents were influenza A (11.7%), influenza B (9.6%), and rhinoviruses (3.1%).Other viruses were present at a frequency less than 3.0%. We observed a winter peak in the detection rate in ILI patients during 3 years of surveillance and a summer peak in 2012. HCoV, HADV, and HMPV were detected more frequently in children than in adults. Patients infected with influenza virus experienced higher temperatures, more coughs, running noses, headaches and fatigue than patients infected with other viruses and virus-free patients (p<0.001). Conclusions: The spectrum, seasonality, age distribution and clinical associations of respiratory virus infections in children and adults with influenza-like illness were analyzed in this study for the first time. To a certain extent, the findings can provide baseline data for evaluating the burden of respiratory virus infection in children and adults in Shanghai. It will also provide clinicians with helpful information about the etiological patterns of outpatients presenting with complaints of acute respiratory syndrome, but further studies should be conducted, and longer-term laboratory-based surveillance would give a better picture of the etiology of ILI. Abstract: On the Tibetan Plateau, mountain slope sediments provide a sensitive record of the 8.2 ka cold event and suggest possible strategies for restoration of grasslands degraded by human activities. Based on a grain-size study of slope sediments of the KE section on the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, climate changes at 8.3–8.0 ka evidenced by a high content of coarse grains are connected with the 8.2 ka cold event. The compiled records of pollen and non-pollen palynomorphs show that, during this event, most plant species suffered serious setbacks characterized by an immediate and obvious reduction of pollen and spore production, and it took ∼1.5 ka (from 8.0 to 6.5 ka) to recover to normal levels, occurring at different rates for different taxa. Ilex pubescens (I. pubescens), has been widely used to treat cardiovascular disease (CVD) in South China. Several studies have revealed aspect of its phytochemistry and pharmacological activities in cardiovascular diseases, but its active compounds and mechanisms of action are still unclear. The aim of this study was to search for the active compounds and the pharmacological mechanisms of I. pubescens for myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MI/RI) by an integrative pharmacology-based investigation. The main targets of compounds in I. pubescens were predicted using the TargetNet webserver (http://targetnet.scbdd.com). The network between compounds and predicted targets related to MI/RI and compounds was constructed. Functional enrichment analysis was performed to investigate the specific functions and pathways involved in the candidate I. pubescens targets acting on MI/RI, which were further validated by in vitro and in vivo experiments. A total of 191 targets were predicted for 64 chemical compounds in I. pubescens. Following Venn's analysis, we found that 38 candidate targets of I. pubescens were associated with protective effects against MI/RI. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses showed that these targets were related to estrogen signaling pathway. Importantly, the cardioprotective effects of I. pubescens and its active compounds were evaluated and the regulatory effects on key targets of heat shock protein 90 alpha family class A member 1 (HSP90AA1) and Estrogen receptor 1 (ESRα) in estrogen signaling pathway were validated in vitro and in vivo. Our discoveries revealed that I. pubescens ameliorated MI/RI by regulating HSP90AA1 and ESRα in estrogen signaling pathway. Abstract: Toxic heavy metals are released to the environment constantly from unregulated electronic waste (e-waste) recycling in Guiyu, China, and thus may contribute to the elevation of lead and other heavy metals levels in placenta. We aimed to investigate concentrations of heavy metals, including lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni) in placenta from Guiyu and compared them with those from a control area where no e-waste processing occurs. Two hundred and twenty human placentas were collected from Guiyu (n =101) and the control area (n =119). The placenta concentrations of Pb, Cd, Cr, and Ni (PCPb, PCCd, PCCr, and PCNi) were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). Risk factors of high exposure and correlation with adverse pregnancy outcomes were analyzed using Spearman correlation analyses. PCPb from Guiyu ranged from 6.51 to 3465.16ng/g with a median of 301.43ng/g, whereas PCPb from the control area ranged from 4.53 to 3176.12ng/g with a median of 165.82ng/g (P =0.010). We also observed that in Guiyu, 41.6% of women (42/101) had PCPb>500ng/gwt (wet weight), compared with 24.4% of women (29/119) in the control area (P =0.006). No significant differences of PCCd and PCCr were found between the two groups. In contrast, PCNi was higher in samples from the control area (median 14.30, range 1.76–593.70ng/g) than in Guiyu samples (median 7.64, range 1.19–1108.99ng/g) (P =0.000), and a negative correlation between PCNi and gestational age was found in this study (P =0.017). Spearman correlation analyses showed that there was correlation between PCPb and residence in e-waste recycling area. Abstract: We have explored a series of spirocyclic piperidine amide derivatives (5) as tryptase inhibitors. Thus, 4 (JNJ-27390467) was identified as a potent, selective tryptase inhibitor with oral efficacy in two animal models of airway inflammation (sheep and guinea pig asthma models). An X-ray co-crystal structure of 4 ·tryptase revealed a hydrophobic pocket in the enzyme’s active site, which is induced by the phenylethynyl group and is comprised of amino acid residues from two different monomers of the tetrameric protein. Abstract: We have continued to explore spirobenzazepines as vasopressin receptor antagonists to follow up on RWJ-339489 (2), which had advanced into preclinical development. Further structural modifications were pursued to find a suitable backup compound for human clinical studies. Thus, we identified carboxylic acid derivative 3 (RWJ-676070; JNJ-17158063) as a potent, balanced vasopressin V1a/V2 receptor antagonist with favorable properties for clinical development. BACKGROUND: There is considerable variability in individual response to antihypertensive agents. The reason for this is not known, but may be related to individual genetic variability. This study examined whether the therapeutic efficacy of benazepril on essential hypertension is modified byβ2 adrenergic receptor gene(ADRB2) Arg16Gly(R16G) polymorphism. Methods and RESULTS: We conducted a family-based study of 321 and 610 hypertensive subjects from Yuexi and Huoqiu Counties of Anhui, China, respectively. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressures(SBP and DBP) before and after a 15-day benazepril treatment were measured. ADRB2 R16G genotypes were determined for all subjects. ADRB2 G16 allele frequency was found to be 41.0% and. 47.4% in Huoqiu and Yuexi, respectively. In Yuexi family-based association test(FBAT) revealed that the G16 allele was associated with a greater DBP decrease in response to a 15-day benazepril treatment(Z = 2.12, P = 0.03), and the data were consistent with a dominant inheritance model. A similar trend was observed in Huoqiu Chinese, but the magnitudes of effects were smaller and did not reach statistical significance. The FBAT results were further confirmed by using a generalized estimating equation model. CONCLUSION: Our family-based study provided the first evidence that ADRB2 R16G polymorphism may play an important role in DBP response to benazepril treatment, although the magnitude of the effect appears to be modified by other risk factors such as plasma lipid and glucose profiles. Hypertensive patients were treated with benazepril, a commonly used angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, for 15 days, and the end-point effect was evaluated.: ResultsWe found that there were large and significant differences in drug response between subjects from two counties, even after adjustment for known factors. The responses to benazepril, measured in diastolic blood pressure drop, in male patients from Yuexi was twice as effective as their counterparts from Huoqiu.: ConclusionsThese results suggest that adjustment of treatment regimen is necessary to improve efficacy, and it could be done at the population level to make it more feasible and affordable. Organ fibrosis is a common pathological result of various chronic diseases with multiple causes. Fibrosis is characterized by the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix and eventually leads to the destruction of the tissue structure and impaired organ function. Prostaglandins are produced by arachidonic acid through cyclooxygenases and various prostaglandin-specific synthases. Prostaglandins bind to homologous receptors on adjacent tissue cells in an autocrine or paracrine manner and participate in the regulation of a series of physiological or pathological processes, including fibrosis. This review summarizes the properties, synthesis, and degradation of various prostaglandins, as well as the roles of these prostaglandins and their receptors in fibrosis in multiple models to reveal the clinical significance of prostaglandins and their receptors in the treatment of fibrosis. With the advent of the era of global ecological limits, natural capital has become absolutely scarce. How to improve the level of human well-being within the ecological limits is the ultimate goal of sustainable development. China is challenged to improve ecological well-being performance (EWP), predominantly in urban areas. This paper presents an overall analysis of the EWP of 278 Chinese cities during the period of 2005–2016 using the Super-slack-based measure (Super-SBM) model. The index system of ecological well-being performance evaluation is constructed from the perspective of input (e.g., labour force, fixed assets investment) and output (e.g. per capita GDP and dust). The results demonstrate that (1) the average EWP value of Chinese cities is relatively low with the value of 0.5919; (2) the top three performers in EWP are Sanya, Haikou and Shenzhen, and the bottom three performers are JinChang, Guigang and Baiyin; (3) the average EWP value of 278 Chinese cities achieved significant improvement over the period 2005–2016; and (4) the EWP value is relatively high in the eastern region, medium in the western region and low in the middle region. Policy suggestions are thus proposed for improving the EWP in Chinese prefecture-level cities. Most previous studies focused on the association between climate variables and seasonal influenza activity in tropical or temperate zones, little is known about the associations in different influenza types in subtropical China. The study aimed to explore the associations of multiple climate variables with influenza A (Flu-A) and B virus (Flu-B) transmissions in Shanghai, China. Weekly influenza virus and climate data (mean temperature (MeanT), diurnal temperature range (DTR), relative humidity (RH) and wind velocity (Wv)) were collected between June 2012 and December 2018. Generalized linear models (GLMs), distributed lag non-linear models (DLNMs) and regression tree models were developed to assess such associations. MeanT exerted the peaking risk of Flu-A at 1.4 °C (2-weeks' cumulative relative risk (RR): 14.88, 95% confidence interval (CI): 8.67–23.31) and 25.8 °C (RR: 12.21, 95%CI: 6.64–19.83), Flu-B had the peak at 1.4 °C (RR: 26.44, 95%CI: 11.52–51.86). The highest RR of Flu-A was 23.05 (95%CI: 5.12–88.45) at DTR of 15.8 °C, that of Flu-B was 38.25 (95%CI: 15.82–87.61) at 3.2 °C. RH of 51.5% had the highest RR of Flu-A (9.98, 95%CI: 4.03–26.28) and Flu-B (4.63, 95%CI: 1.95–11.27). Wv of 3.5 m/s exerted the peaking RR of Flu-A (7.48, 95%CI: 2.73–30.04) and Flu-B (7.87, 95%CI: 5.53–11.91). DTR ≥ 12 °C and MeanT <22 °C were the key drivers for Flu-A and Flu-B, separately. The study found complex non-linear relationships between climate variability and different influenza types in Shanghai. We suggest the careful use of meteorological variables in influenza prediction in subtropical regions, considering such complex associations, which may facilitate government and health authorities to better minimize the impacts of seasonal influenza.
