Reducing waste and carbon emissions in the construction industry is a crucial step towards achieving high-quality and sustainable development. This study focuses on 30 provinces in China and employs the Malmquist-Luenberger index model to assess the efficiency of China's construction industry in reducing construction waste and carbon emissions. The temporal evolution characteristics of four major economic regions and provinces in reducing construction waste and carbon emissions from 2010 to 2020 in China are analyzed. The results indicate that the overall ML index in various regions exhibits a fluctuating upward trend. The technological progress index in the eastern region plays a significant role in promoting overall efficiency, and the technological level tends to develop steadily during the research period. The technological progress index in the central region contributes the most to the comprehensive efficiency value. The scale efficiency change index in the western region exhibits a downward trajectory throughout the research period, and the pure technical efficiency index is a key factor in improving the comprehensive efficiency index. The pure technical efficiency change index and scale efficiency change index in the Northeast region demonstrate a notable surge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The reduction of construction and demolition waste (C&DW) has a significant impact on the sustainable development of the construction industry. Differentiated reduction management policy is the key to C&DW reduction management. Based on the calculation of C&DW generation, this paper studies the temporal and spatial evolution characteristics, heterogeneity of C&DW with economic growth, and driving factors of C&DW generation in 30 provinces from 2007 to 2018 by using the methods of standard deviation ellipse model, environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) and geographic detector. The results show that the C&DW generation in China shows an increasing trend, "low in the west, and high in the East" and "high in the South and low in the north," with significant regional differences. The temporal and spatial distribution of C&DW generation shows a "northeast southwest" trend, and this pattern has a trend of changing to "due north - due south"; C&DW generation increases with the economic growth, and the proportion of "inverted N" provinces is large, which is in the stage of continuous increase in the C&DW generation; The economic output effect of construction industry is the most important factor affecting the spatial distribution of C&DW generation. The impact of C&DW generation in each province has shifted from the single core driving effect of economy to the common guidance of economy and environmental protection. Background: Ribosomal RNA N6-methyltransferase METTL5 was reported to catalyze m6A in 18S rRNA. We aimed to investigate the expression and prognostic features of METTL5 in gastric cancer (GC). Methods: In this study, 168 GC patients and their corresponding adjacent tissues were collected. Immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of METTL5 protein. Univariate and multivariate Cox analysis were used to dertermine the prognostic role of METTL5 protein in GC, and a nomogram was constructed to evaluate GC patients' prognosis based on METTL5 expression. Data from TCGA and GEO database were also used to validate the prognostic value of METTL5 in GC patients on mRNA level. We further performed GSEA enrichment analysis to explore the possible function and related pathways related to METTL5. Results: METTL5 protein in gastric cancer tissues (GCTs) was significantly decreased compared with adjacent normal tissues (ANTs) and adjacent intestinal metaplasia tissues (AIMTs) (P < 0.001, respectively). Meanwhile, METTL5 expression was negatively correlated with clinicopathologic stage. According to multivariate Cox proportional hazards model analysis, METTL5 protein expression was a good independent predictor of GC prognosis (p < 0.05). Patients with high METTL5 expression had better prognosis. The nomogram constructed based on METTL5 expression could predict the prognosis of GC patients well. GSEA analysis showed that genes of METTL5 low expression group were enriched in some oncogenic signaling pathways such as ERBB, MAPK, JAK-STAT, Wnt, and mTOR, as well as some immune pathways, including Fc-gamma R mediated phagocytosis, Fc-epsilon Ri, chemokine, T cell receptor and B cell receptor signaling pathway. While the high expression group of METTL5 was mainly related to oxidative phosphorylation, nucleotide excision repair and mismatch repair. Conclusions: METTL5 protein was decreased in GCTs compared with AIMTs and ANTs, and it may be a potential prognostic biomarker in GC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
