Abstract Background Ensuring the safety of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) has become a pivotal issue in dental care practices, focusing on the health implications for both patients and healthcare providers. The inherent structure and usage conditions of DUWLs contribute to the risk of biofilm formation and bacterial growth, highlighting the need for effective disinfection solutions.The quest for a disinfection method that is both safe for clinical use and effective against pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in DUWLs underscores the urgency of this research. Materials Chlorine dioxide disinfectants at concentrations of 5, 20, and 80 mg/L were used to treat biofilms of S. aureus and E. coli cultured in DUWLs. The disinfection effectiveness was assessed through bacterial counts and culturing. Simultaneously, human skin fibroblast cells were treated with the disinfectant to observe changes in cell morphology and cytotoxicity. Additionally, the study included corrosion tests on various metals (carbon steel, brass, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.). Results Experimental results showed that chlorine dioxide disinfectants at concentrations of 20 mg/L and 80 mg/L significantly reduced the bacterial count of S. aureus and E. coli, indicating effective disinfection. In terms of cytotoxicity, higher concentrations were more harmful to cellular safety, but even at 80 mg/L, the cytotoxicity of chlorine dioxide remained within controllable limits. Corrosion tests revealed that chlorine dioxide disinfectants had a certain corrosive effect on carbon steel and brass, and the degree of corrosion increased with the concentration of the disinfectant. Conclusion After thorough research, we recommend using chlorine dioxide disinfectant at a concentration of 20 mg/L for significantly reducing bacterial biofilms in dental unit waterlines (DUWLs). This concentration also ensures satisfactory cell safety and metal corrosion resistance.

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is a vital economic vegetable crop, and the TONNEAU1 Recruiting Motif (TRM) gene plays a key role in cucumber organ growth. However, the pan-genomic characteristics of the TRM gene family and their expression patterns under different stresses have not been reported in cucumber. In this study, we identified 29 CsTRMs from the pan-genomes of 13 cucumber accessions, with CsTRM29 existing only in PI183967. Most CsTRM proteins exhibited differences in sequence length, except five CsTRMs having consistent protein sequence lengths among the 13 accessions. All CsTRM proteins showed amino acid variations. An analysis of CsTRM gene expression patterns revealed that six CsTRM genes strongly changed in short-fruited lines compared with long-fruited lines. And four CsTRM genes strongly responded to salt and heat stress, while CsTRM14 showed responses to salt stress, powdery mildew, gray mold, and downy mildew. Some CsTRM genes were induced or suppressed at different treatment timepoints, suggesting that cucumber TRM genes may play different roles in responses to different stresses, with expression patterns varying with stress changes. Remarkably, the expression of CsTRM21 showed considerable change between long and short fruits and in responses to abiotic stresses (salt stress and heat stress), as well as biotic stresses (powdery mildew and gray mold), suggesting a dual role of CsTRM21 in both fruit shape determination and stress resistance. The performance of long-term prediction models is currently impeded due to the mismatch between the nonstationary representations of statistical learning models and the underlying dynamics from real-world systems, which results in low long-term prediction accuracies for many real-world applications. We present a Recurrent Gated Unit-based Mixture Kriging Machine Bayesian Filtering (ReGU-MKMBF) approach for characterizing nonstationary and nonlinear behaviors of one ubiquitous real-world process—dynamic intermittency. It models the transient dynamics in the state space as recurrent transitions between localized stationary segments/attractors. Then, a case study on predicting the onset of pathological symptoms associated with Electrocardiogram signals is presented. The results suggest that ReGU-MKMBF improves the forecasting performance by extending the prediction time horizon with an order of magnitudes while maintaining high accuracies on the foreseen estimates. Implementing the presented approach can subsequently change the current scheme of online monitoring and aftermath mitigation into a prediction and timely prevention for telecardiology. Perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND) refer to cognitive deterioration that occurs after surgery or anesthesia. Prolonged isoflurane exposure has potential neurotoxicity and induces PND, but the mechanism is unclear. The glymphatic system clears harmful metabolic waste from the brain. This study sought to unveil the functions of glymphatic system in PND and explore the underlying molecular mechanisms. The PND mice model was established by long term isoflurane anesthesia. The glymphatic function was assessed by multiple in vitro and in vivo methods. An adeno-associated virus was used to overexpress AQP4 and TGN-020 was used to inhibit its function. This research revealed that the glymphatic system was impaired in PND mice and the blunted glymphatic transport was closely associated with the accumulation of inflammatory proteins in the hippocampus. Increasing AQP4 polarization could enhance glymphatic transport and suppresses neuroinflammation, thereby improve cognitive function in the PND model mice. However, a marked impaired glymphatic inflammatory proteins clearance and the more severe cognitive dysfunction were observed when decreasing AQP4 polarization. Therefore, long-term isoflurane anesthesia causes blunted glymphatic system by inducing AQP4 depolarization, enhanced the AQP4 polarization can alleviate the glymphatic system malfunction and reduce the neuroinflammatory response, which may be a potential treatment strategy for PND. In the ordinary way, the output performance of 85Kr radioactive source depends on activity, 85Kr radioactive sources with equal activity have similar output performance. But the output performance of 85Kr thickness gauge source on the market is inconsistent while the sources have the same size and activity, and this may be related to the preparation process of 85Kr radioactive source by different suppliers. Furthermore, preparation process that shell material, active region and feed gas should be considered. 85Kr radioactive source with equal activity (7.4 GBq) were prepared by different shell material, active region and feed gas with different abundances. The output voltage of these 85Kr radioactive sources were measured by 85Kr β output voltage device developed by HTA Co., Ltd. The results show that 85Kr radioactive source prepared by titanium shell has lager output voltage than stainless shell, 85Kr radioactive source prepared by small activity region has a little bit lager output voltage than big activity region, and output voltage of 85Kr radioactive source prepared by more abundant feed gas is slightly lager than less abundant feed gas. This because that 85Kr radioactive source prepared by titanium shell, small activity region and lager abundant feed gas has less absorption of beta rays than that prepared by stainless shell, big activity region and less abundant feed gas. This can guidance on of preparation for 85Kr thickness gauge source based on β output efficiency.

A Z-type heterojunction MnO2@g-C3N4 photocatalyst with excellent performance was synthesized by an easy high-temperature thermal polymerization approach and combined with peroxymonosulfate (PMS) oxidation technology for highly efficient degrading of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC). Analysis of the morphological structural and photoelectric properties of the catalysts was achieved through different characterization approaches, showing that the addition of MnO2 heightened visible light absorption by g-C3N4. The Mn1-CN1/PMS system showed the best degradation of TC wastewater, with a TC degradation efficiency of 96.97% following 180 min of treatment. This was an approximate 38.65% increase over the g-C3N4/PMS system. Additionally, the Mn1-CN1 catalyst exhibited excellent stability and reusability. The active species trapping experiment indicated •OH and SO4•− remained the primary active species to degrade TC in the combined system. TC degradation pathways and intermediate products were determined. The Three-Dimensional Excitation-Emission Matrix (3DEEM) was employed for analyzing changes in the molecular structure in TC photocatalytic degradation. The biological toxicity of TC and its degradation intermediates were investigated via the Toxicity Estimation Software Test (T.E.S.T.). Objectives: The accuracy of ultrasound in the detection of appendicitis in pregnant women was examined in a meta‐analysis. Methods: Pregnant women with suspected acute appendicitis were evaluated using ultrasound in a systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases from January 1, 2011 to August 10, 2023. The sensitivity and specificity values and diagnostic odds ratios were obtained using the pooled data. Results: A total of 239 patients were studied in four relevant investigations. Ultrasonography has a sensitivity of 56% and a specificity of 88% for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.66%. Ultrasonography had a positive likelihood ratio of 4.65 (95% confidence interval, 1.42–15.23) and a negative likelihood ratio of 0.50 (95% confidence interval, 0.41–0.62). There was no evidence of publication bias (p = 0.93). Conclusions: Ultrasound has moderate sensitivity for identifying appendicitis in pregnant women and may be utilized as an alternative diagnostic method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
