Abstract

This paper presents the design and performance evaluation of a multi-disc magnetorheological fluid (MRF)-based brake (MRB) for A00-class minicars. The braking performance of the MRB is studied by means of theoretical analysis and experimental verification. Firstly, the MRB is designed according to the shear model of the MRF, and the structure optimization is carried subsequently. Secondly, multi-physical simulations of the MRB are conducted to investigate the transient temperature field, thermal stress and thermal strain distribution of the MRB under different braking models; Finally, a performance evaluating testbed is built to experimentally assess the braking performance of the MRB. The results indicate that the theoretical braking torque of the MRB fulfills the target value. The thermal strain-induced deformation of the disc is minimal and has a negligible effect on the torque output. In addition, the MRB is experimentally validated to exhibit excellent braking performance in terms of sufficient torque output capacity, rapid response, low temperature rise characteristic, as well as favorable velocity following property. Abstract

The gut microbiome and fecal metabolites have been found to influence sarcopenia, but whether there are potential bacteria that can alleviate sarcopenia has been under‐investigated, and the molecular mechanism remains unclear. To investigate the relationships between the gut microbiome, fecal metabolites and sarcopenia, subjects were selected from observational multi‐ethnic study conducted in Western China. Sarcopenia was diagnosed according to the criteria of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2014. The gut microbiome was profiled by shotgun metagenomic sequencing. Untargeted metabolomic analysis was performed to analyse the differences in fecal metabolites. We investigated bacterium with the greatest relative abundance difference between healthy individuals and sarcopenia patients, and the differences in metabolites associated with the bacteria, to verify its effects on muscle mass and function in a mouse model. The study included 283 participants (68.90% females, mean age: 66.66 years old) with and without sarcopenia (141 and 142 participants, respectively) and from the Han (98 participants), Zang (88 participants) and Qiang (97 participants) ethnic groups. This showed an overall reduction (15.03% vs. 20.77%, P= 0.01) of Prevotella copribetween the sarcopenia and non‐sarcopenia subjects across the three ethnic groups. Functional characterization of the differential bacteria showed enrichment (odds ratio = 15.97, P= 0.0068) in branched chain amino acid (BCAA) metabolism in non‐sarcopenia group. A total of 13 BCAA and their derivatives have relatively low levels in sarcopenia. In the in vivo experiment, we found that the blood BCAA level was higher in the mice gavaged with live P. copri(LPC) (P< 0.001). The LPC mice had significantly longer wire and grid hanging time (P< 0.02), longer time on rotor (P= 0.0001) and larger grip strength (P< 0.0001), indicating better muscle function. The weight of gastrocnemius mass and rectus femoris mass (P< 0.05) was higher in LPC mice. The micro‐computed tomography showed a larger leg area (P= 0.0031), and a small animal analyser showed a higher lean mass ratio in LPC mice (P= 0.0157), indicating higher muscle mass. The results indicated that there were lower levels of both P. copriand BCAA in sarcopenia individuals. In vivo experiments, gavage with LPC could attenuate muscle mass and function decline, indicating alleviating sarcopenia. This suggested that P. coprimay play a therapeutic potential role in the management of sarcopenia.

Contains fulltext : 286898.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access), BACKGROUND: Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs; valine, leucine, and isoleucine) are essential amino acids that are associated with an increased risk of cardiometabolic diseases (CMD). However, there are still only limited insights into potential direct associations between BCAAs and a wide range of CMD parameters, especially those remaining after correcting for covariates and underlying causal relationships. METHODS: To shed light on these relationships, we systematically characterized the associations between plasma BCAA concentrations and a large panel of 537 CMD parameters (including atherosclerosis-related parameters, fat distribution, plasma cytokine concentrations and cell counts, circulating concentrations of cardiovascular-related proteins and plasma metabolites) in 1400 individuals from the Dutch population cohort LifeLines DEEP and 294 overweight individuals from the 300OB cohort. After correcting for age, sex, and BMI, we assessed associations between individual BCAAs and CMD parameters. We further assessed the underlying causality using Mendelian randomization. RESULTS: A total of 838 significant associations were detected for 409 CMD parameters. BCAAs showed both common and specific associations, with the most specific associations being detected for isoleucine. Further, we found that obesity status substantially affected the strength and direction of associations for valine, which cannot be corrected for using BMI as a covariate. Subsequent univariable Mendelian randomization (UVMR), after removing BMI-associated SNPs, identified seven significant causal relationships from four CMD traits to BCAA levels, mostly for diabetes-related parameters. However, no causal effects of BCAAs on CMD parameters were supported. CONCLUSIONS: Our cross-sectional association study reports a large number of associations between BCAAs and CMD parameters. 41. Empirical Analysis of Sustainable Trade Effects of FTAs Based on Augmented Gravity Model: A Case Study of China.

Abstract

China has developed many strategies to promote sustainable trade, including accelerating the signing of free-trade agreements (FTAs). However, there is a lack of studies examining the impact of FTAs on the sustainable growth of foreign trade from a holistic perspective. This paper applies an augmented gravity model to verify the trade creation and diversion effects of China's FTAs that are currently in effect. A panel data analysis over the period of 1995–2019 is conducted on 34 countries and regions, including China, and Poisson pseudo-maximum likelihood (PPML) is employed to test three different fixed-effects models. The results show that the trade effects differ across FTAs, with nine FTAs generally making positive contributions to China's trade and social welfare growth, and the remaining five FTAs exhibiting varying degrees of trade diversion or contraction effects. Empirically, it is clear that participation in FTAs has contributed to the sustainable trade of China, but China still needs to take prudent action to pursue further trade liberalization in order to counter the potential threat of trade diversion. This study also evaluated the relationship between gut microbiota changes and increased inflammatory cytokines in insomnia patients.Patients and Methods: Outpatients with acute and chronic insomnia (aged 26– 55 years; n=20 and 38, respectively) and age/gender-matched healthy controls (n=38) were recruited from a southern China region. Participants’ gut microbiome, plasma cytokines, and self-reported sleep quality and psychopathological symptoms were measured.Results: The gut microbiomes of insomnia patients compared with healthy controls were characterized by lower microbial richness and diversity, depletion of anaerobes, and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing bacteria, and an expansion of potential pathobionts. Lachnospira and Bacteroides were signature bacteria for distinguishing acute insomnia patients from healthy controls, while Faecalibacterium and Blautia were signature bacteria for distinguishing chronic insomnia patients from healthy controls. Acute/chronic insomnia-related signature bacteria also showed correlations with these patients’ self-reported sleep quality and plasma IL-1β.Conclusion: These findings suggest that insomnia symptomology, gut microbiota, and inflammation may be interrelated in complex ways. 49. Data-based Shape Self-sensing of a Cable-Driven Notched Continuum Mechanism Using Multi-dimensional Intrinsic Force Information for Surgical Robot

Abstract

The accurate shape sensing capability of the continuum mechanism is fundamental to improve and guarantee the motion control accuracy and safety of continuum surgical robots. This paper presents a data-based shape self-sensing method for a cable-driven notched continuum mechanism using its multi-dimensional intrinsic force information, which mainly includes the multi-dimensional forces/torques and driving cable tensions, et al. The nonlinear hysteresis compensation and the shape estimation of the notched continuum mechanism play significant roles in its motion control. Calibration compensation of the notched continuum mechanism is performed based on kinematic modeling to improve the accuracy of its preliminary motion control. The hysteresis characteristics of the continuum mechanism is analyzed, modeled and compensated through considering the abundant dynamic motion experiments, such that a feedforward hysteresis compensation controller is designed to improve the tracking control performance of continuum mechanism. Based on the kinematics calibration and hysteresis compensation, combined with the motor displacement, driving cable tensions and six-dimensional forces/torques information of the continuum mechanism, a data-based shape self-sensing method based on Particle Swarm Optimization BP Neural Network (PSO-BPNN) is proposed in this study. Experimental results show that this method can effectively estimate the loaded and unloaded shape of the notched continuum mechanism, which provides a new approach for the shape reconstruction of cable-driven notched continuum surgical robots.
