The mixed bacteria were obtained by enrichment from acidic water and soil from an asbestos mining area in Sichuan, China. Preliminary experiments with ore grading 1.03% Te showed that the highest Te leaching rate of 66.2% was obtained by leaching for 15 days at 30 degrees C and a pulp concentration of 1%. High leaching rates were obtained at pH vales in the range 1.5-2, with the highest rate of 67.8% at pH 5. Good leaching rates of up to 66. 6% in 15 days were achieved at low pulp concentrations of 1%-2%.
