We aimed to explore the prognostic significance of examined LNs and to identify how many nodes should be examined.Methods: We reviewed 549 patients who underwent pulmonary or pneumonectomy surgery or plus lymphadenectomy who were confirmed as T2 stage and LN negative by postoperative pathological diagnosis. According to Martingale residuals of the Cox model, the patients were classified into four groups by the number of examined LNs (1–2 LNs, 3–7 LNs, 8–11 LNs, and ≥12 LNs). Kaplan–Meier analysis and Cox regression analysis were used to evaluate the association between survival and the number of examined LNs.Result: Compared with the 1–2 LNs, 3–7 LNs, and 8–11 LNs groups, the survival was significantly better in the ≥12 LNs group. The 5-year cancer-specific survival rate was 60.5% for patients with 1–2 negative LNs, compared with 68.7%, 72.6%, and 78.4% for those with 3–7, 8–11, and >11 LNs examined, respectively. The 7-year cancer-specific survival rate was 52.9% for patients with 1–2 negative LNs, compared with 63.7%, 63.8%, and 70.8% for those with 3–7, 8–11, and >11 LNs examined, respectively (P=0.045). There was a significant drop in mortality risk with the examination of more LNs. The lowest mortality risk occurred in those with 32 or more LNs examined. Multivariate analysis showed that age and the number of examined LNs were strong independent predictors of survival.Conclusion: The number of examined LNs is a strong independent prognostic factor. Our study demonstrates that patients with T2 N0 NSCLC should have at least 12 LNs examined and that the results of this study may provide information for the optimal number of resected LNs in surgery. However, PEG-SS-PLL catiomers have not been used to deliver small interfering VEGF RNA (siVEGF) in antiangiogenesis gene therapy. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether this novel biodegradable catiomer can deliver siVEGF into cancer cells and at the same time have an antitumor effect in a xenograft mouse model. It was found that PEG-SS-PLL efficiently delivered siVEGF with negligible cytotoxicity, and significantly decreased the expression of VEGF at both the messenger-RNA and protein levels both in vitro and in vivo, and thus tumor growth was inhibited. Our findings demonstrated that PEG-SS-PLL/siVEGF could potentially be applied to antiangiogenesis gene therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma. Background: The current study was undertaken to investigate the time course of gastric ischemia-reperfusion (GI-R)-induced gastric mucosal injury and repair and whether extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) were involved in GI-R-induced gastric mucosal injury and repair.Methods: Immunohistochemistry and Western blot analyses were used.Results: Gastric mucosal injury induced by ischemia alone was mild. However, the injury worsened after reperfusion, reaching a maximum at 1 h, and was accompanied by increased apoptotic cells and decreased proliferative cells. Then, the gastric mucosal cells began to repair the injury by enhanced proliferation, which peaked at 24 h after reperfusion, and by 72 h the damaged gastric mucosa was mostly repaired. The ERK1/2 (nonactivated ERK1/2) protein expression level and distribution profile showed no significant changes during the entire reperfusion phase, but the p-ERK1/2 (activated ERK1/2) level changed dramatically. The p-ERK1/2 protein level was decreased at 0.5 h after reperfusion began, and then gradually increased, peaking after 3 h of reperfusion; these changes in p-ERK1/2 occurred simultaneously in the cytoplasm and nucleus. On the other hand, inhibition of the activation of ERK1/2, induced by PD98059, a specific ERK1/2 upstream inhibitor, aggravated the gastric mucosal injury, and apoptosis was increased and proliferation was reduced in the gastric mucosal cells after the same duration of reperfusion.Conclusions: Serious gastric mucosal damage involving apoptotic cells occurred rapidly at an early stage of reperfusion and was closely related to the suppression of ERK1/2 activation. The activated ERK1/2 signaling transduction pathway played an important role. Activated ERK1/2 participated in the regulation of gastric mucosal injury and repair induced by GI-R, and might be mediated by the inhibition of apoptosis and the promotion of proliferation in gastric mucosal cells. KANK1 is expressed in epithelial cells and connects focal adhesions with the adjacent cortical microtubule stabilizing complex. Although KANK1 was shown to suppress cancer cell growth in vitro, TCGA database points to high KANK1 levels associated with poor prognosis in a wide spectrum of human malignancies. Here, we address this discrepancy and report that KANK1 promotes proliferation and survival of PyMT-transformed mammary tumor cells in vivo. Mechanistically, KANK1 localizes to the basal side of basement membrane (BM)-attached transformed luminal epithelial cells. When these cells lose the contact with the BM and disassemble integrin adhesions, KANK1 is found at cell-cell junctions where it competes with the polarity and tumor suppressor Scribble for NOS1AP binding, which curbs the ability of Scribble to promote Hippo pathway activity. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) show potential application in many domains, in which photochromic MOFs (PMOFs) have received enormous attention. Researchers mainly utilize photoactive ligands to build PMOFs. Recently, the mixed electron donating and accepting ligands strategies have also been used to construct PMOFs driven by the electron transfer between nonphotochromic moieties. However, the potential interligand competition inhibits the formation of PMOFs. Therefore, the exploration of single-ligand-guided assembly is conductive for building PMOFs. Considering the existing electron accepting and donating role of pyridyl and carboxyl, the pyridinecarboxyate derived from the fusion of pyridyl and carboxyl units may serve as single ligand to yield PMOFs (Figure 1d). In this work, the coordination assembly of bipyridinedicarboxylate (2,2'-bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, H 2 bpdc; 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarboxylic acid, H 2 pda) and LaCl 3 generate two PMOFs, [La(bpdc)(H 2 O)Cl] (1) and [La(pda)(H 2 O) 2 Cl]⋅2H 2 O (2). Both complexes feature dinuclear lanthanum as building blocks with differences in the connecting number of likers, in which 1 has (4,8)-connected topology and 2 exhibits sql topology. Their structural differences result in the diversities of photoresponsive functionalities. Background: Hypoglycemic episodes cause varying degrees of damage in the functional system of elderly inpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The purpose of the study is to construct a nomogram prediction model for the risk of hypoglycemia in elderly inpatients with T2DM and to evaluate the predictive performance of the model., Methods: From August 2022 to April 2023, 546 elderly inpatients with T2DM were recruited in seven tertiary-level general hospitals in Beijing and Inner Mongolia province, China. Medical history and clinical data of the inpatients were collected with a self-designed questionnaire, with follow up on the occurrence of hypoglycemia within one week. Factors related to the occurrence of hypoglycemia were screened using regularized logistic analysis(r-LR), and a nomogram prediction visual model of hypoglycemia was constructed. AUROC, Hosmer-Lemeshow, and DCA were used to analyze the prediction performance of the model., Results: The incidence of hypoglycemia of elderly inpatients with T2DM was 41.21% (225/546). The risk prediction model included 8 predictors as follows(named ADOCHBIU): duration of diabetes ( OR =2.276, 95% CI 2.097˜2.469), urinary microalbumin( OR =0.864, 95% CI 0.798˜0.935), oral hypoglycemic agents ( OR =1.345, 95% CI 1.243˜1.452), cognitive impairment ( OR =1.226, 95% CI 1.178˜1.276), insulin usage ( OR =1.002, 95% CI 0.948˜1.060), hypertension ( OR =1.113, 95% CI 1.103˜1.124), blood glucose monitoring ( OR =1.909, 95% CI 1.791˜2.036), and abdominal circumference ( OR =2.998, 95% CI 2.972˜3.024). The AUROC of the prediction model was 0.871, with sensitivity of 0.889 and specificity of 0.737, which indicated that the nomogram model has good discrimination. The Hosmer-Lemeshow was χ 2 = 2.147 ( P =0.75), which meant that the prediction model is well calibrated. DCA curve is consistently higher than all the positive line and all the negative line, which indicated that the nomogram prediction model has good clinical utility., Conclusions: The nomogram hypoglycemia prediction model constructed in this study had good prediction effect. It is used for early detection of high-risk individuals with hypoglycemia in elderly inpatients with T2DM, so as to take targeted measures to prevent hypoglycemia., Trial Registration: ChiCTR2200062277. The functions of integrins are tightly regulated via multiple mechanisms including trafficking and degradation. Integrins are repeatedly internalized, routed into the endosomal system and either degraded by the lysosome or recycled back to the plasma membrane. The ubiquitin system dictates whether internalized proteins are degraded or recycled. Here, we use a genetic screen and proximity-dependent biotin identification to identify deubiquitinase(s) that control integrin surface levels. We find that a ternary deubiquitinating complex, comprised of USP12 (or the homologous USP46), WDR48 and WDR20, stabilizes β1 integrin (Itgb1) by preventing ESCRT-mediated lysosomal degradation. Mechanistically, the USP12/46-WDR48-WDR20 complex removes ubiquitin from the cytoplasmic tail of internalized Itgb1 in early endosomes, which in turn prevents ESCRT-mediated sorting and Itgb1 degradation., (© 2024. The engineering of tunable photoluminescence (PL) in single materials with a full-spectrum emission represents a highly coveted objective but poses a formidable challenge. In this context, the realization of near-full-spectrum PL emission, spanning the visible light range from 424 to 620 nm, in a single-component two-dimensional (2D) hybrid lead halide perovskite, (ETA) 2 PbBr 4 (ETA + =(HO)(CH 2 ) 2 NH 3 + ), is reported, achieved through high-pressure treatment. A pressure-induced phase transition occurs upon compression, transforming the crystal structure from an orthorhombic phase under ambient conditions to a monoclinic structure at high pressure. This phase transition driven by the adaptive and dynamic configuration changes of organic amine cations enables an effective and continuous narrowing of the band gap in this halide crystal. The hydrogen bonding interactions between inorganic layers and organic amine cations (N-H⋅⋅⋅Br and O-H⋅⋅⋅Br hydrogen bonds) efficiently modulate the organic amine cations penetration and the octahedral distortion. Consequently, this phenomenon induces a phase transition and results in red-shifted PL emissions, leading to the near-full-spectrum emission. Smart optical materials with tunable fluorescence and room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) exhibit promising application prospects in the field of intelligent switches, information security, etc. Herein, a tetraimidazole derivative was grafted to one-dimensional lanthanum-diphosphonate through H-bonds, generating a coordination polymer (CP), (H 4 -TIBP)·[La 2 Li(H 2 -HEDP) 4 (H-HEDP)]·3H 2 O (termed La; TIBP = 3,3,5,5-tetra(imidazole-1-yl)-1,1-biphenyl; H 4 -HEDP = 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid) with a three-dimensional supramolecular structure. La shows dynamic fluorescence from blue to red and switchable monotonous yellowish-green RTP, which can be manipulated by reversible photochromism. It is worth noting that Eu 3+ /Tb 3+ -doped CPs exhibit time-resolved (red to yellow) and monotonous green afterglow, respectively, which can be attributed to multiple emissions with different decay rates. The dynamic and multicolor luminescence endows these CPs with potential for application in the domains of optical communications, multi-step encryption, and anti-counterfeiting. A zinc-organic hybrid ( 1 ) with multifunctional room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) was synthesized. 1 presents light/force-sensitive RTP properties due to the photochromic behavior from gray to light yellow and the transition from crystalline to amorphous state, respectively. Furthermore, inkless printing and information encryption models were successfully constructed to prove their widespread application prospect.

Color-tunable room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials possess potential applications in multicolor imaging, multichannel anticounterfeiting, and information encryption. Herein, we synthesized two zero-dimensional cadmium-organic halides, (H-aepy) 2 CdX 4 (referred to as CdX-aepy ; X = Cl - , Br - ; aepy = 3-(2-aminoethyl)pyridine), both of which exhibit long-lived excitation wavelength- and time-dependent RTP. Experimental and theoretical results suggest that the multicolor RTP can be ascribed to the coemission of pristine H-aepy ligands and halogen-affected H-aepys, supporting that suitably introducing halogens can be an efficient strategy for constructing multicolor RTP materials. Additionally, we also demonstrate that the two phosphors can be applied in multichannel anticounterfeiting and information encryption. This work reports two hybrids with color-tunable RTP, as well as provides new insight into the effect of halogens on the regulation of RTP.

Objectives: Unique lifestyle and cultural factors in China may lead to distinct patterns of risk factors for oral frailty among older adults, especially in regions inhabited by northeastern border minority groups., Methods: From July to November 2023, a convenience sampling method was employed to select older adults from three communities in Yanji City as the subjects. Data were collected by a set of questionnaires., Results: A total of 478 older adults were included, revealing a prevalence rate of 71.6 % for oral frailty. Factors influencing were found to include age, ethnicity, gender, income, number of chronic diseases, body mass index, drinking, physical frailty, sleep disorders, and attitudes towards aging (p < 0.05)., Conclusions: There is a higher prevalence of oral frailty. Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on pain, anxiety like behavior, and substance P(SP) /neurokinin-1 receptor (NK1R) /β -arrestin 1(ARRB1) pathway related protein expression in hippocampus of chronic constriction injury (CCI) rats, so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of neuropathic pain., Methods: Twenty-seven male SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation, model and EA groups, with 9 rats in each group. The CCI model was established by ligature of the left sciatic nerve. On the 8 th day following modeling, EA (2 Hz, 0.5-1.5 mA) was applied to the left "Huantiao" (GB34) and "Yanglingquan" (GB34) for 30 min, once every other day for 13 times. Mechanical paw withdrawal threshold (MWT), thermal paw withdrawal threshold (TWL) and difference of the weight distribution of the hind limbs were detected before operation and at the 5 th , 9 th , 17 th , 25 th and 33 rd days after operation. Open field test was used to evaluate the anxiety-like behavior of rats. The content of SP in hippocampus was determined by ELISA. The protein expression of NK1R and ARRB1 in hippocampus was detected by Western blot., Results: Compared with the sham operation group, the MWT and TWL of the left hind limb at the 5 th , 9 th , 17 th , 25 th and 33 rd days after operation, the time of entering the central area and the total distance of movement, and the content of SP in the hippocampus were significantly decreased ( P <0.001, P <0.01), while the difference of the weight distribution of the hind limbs at the 5 th , 9 th , 17 th , 25 th and 33 rd days after operation and the protein expression of NK1R and ARRB1 were significantly increased ( P <0.001, P <0.05) in the model group. After EA intervention, the MWT and TWL of the left hind limb, the time of entering the central area and the total moving distance, and the expression of SP in the hippocampus were significantly increased ( P <0.01, P <0.001, P <0.05), while the difference in the weight distribution of the hind limbs was significantly reduced, and the expression of NK1R and ARRB1 protein in the hippocampus were significantly decreased ( P <0.001, P <0.05) in the EA group., Conclusions: EA can effectively improve the pain and anxiety behaviors in CCI rats, and reverse the abnormal expression of SP, NK1R and ARRB1 proteins in the hippocampus, which may be related to its effects in regulating the SP/NK1R/ARRB1 pathway in the hippocampus.

Organic-inorganic hybrid linear and nonlinear optical (NLO) materials have received increasingly wide spread attention in recent years. Herein, the first hybrid noncentrosymmetric (NCS) borophosphate, (C 5 H 6 N) 2 B 2 O(HPO 4 ) 2 (4PBP), is rationally designed and synthesized by a covalent-linkage strategy. 4-pyridyl-boronic acid (4 PB) is considered as a bifunctional unit, which may effectively improve the optical properties and stability of the resultant material. On the one hand, 4 PB units are covalently linked with PO 3 (OH) groups via strong B-O-P connections, which significantly enhances the thermal stability of 4PBP (decomposition at 321, vs lower 200 °C of most of hybrid materials). On the other hand, the planar π-conjugated C 5 H 6 N units and their uniform layered arrangements represent large structural anisotropy and hyperpolarizability, achieving the largest birefringence (0.156 @ 546 nm) in the reported borophosphates and a second-harmonic generation response (0.7 × KDP). 4PBP also exhibits a wide transparency range (0.27-1.50 µm). Eye injuries from sports, activities, and work are a leading cause of vision loss in youth. Most eye injuries can be prevented with protective eyewear. An open-ended survey on youth perspectives on eye trauma and protection was administered to the MyVoice Text Message Cohort of US youth ages 14-24 years. Qualitative, text message responses were coded using thematic analysis. The survey was distributed to 798 recipients; 641 (80.3%) responded. Many youth were concerned about the impact of excessive screen use (n = 278 [43.8%]) and sunlight or UV exposure (n = 239 [37.6%]) on their eye health. Fewer were concerned about injury from sports and activities (n = 115 [18.1%]) or job-related eye risks (n = 77 [12.1%]). The most common actions that youth took to protect their eyes included sun protection (eg, sunglasses; n = 300 [47.2%]), refractive correction (eg, glasses, contacts; n = 195 [30.7%]) and screen protection (eg, blue light blocking glasses; n = 159 [25.0%]). Fewer wore eye protection for sports or activities (n = 54 [8.5%]) or work (n = 41 [6.5%]). Youth concerns about eye injury from screens and sunlight are misaligned with the main causes of vision loss in this population, suggesting that public health education is needed to promote optimal eye safety., (Copyright © 2024 American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Objective: Examining the current situation of test anxiety among first year senior high school students in Yanji City and investigating the factors that contribute to exam anxiety., Methods: Using cluster sampling, a survey was conducted on 1,550 first-year high school students from three high schools in Yanji City in April-May 2023. The survey utilized general information questionnaires, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), and the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the influencing factors of test anxiety., Results: A total of 1,550 first-year high school students were included in the analysis, with a test anxiety occurrence rate of 79.8%. Test anxiety exhibited statistical differences among different genders, ethnicities, family economic levels, frequency of communication with parents, and relationships with parents (with results of 53.44, 10.42, 17.31, 20.42, 31.95, all p < 0.05). Scores of hypochondriasis (Hs), depression (D), psychasthenia (Pt), paranoia (Pa), psychopathic deviate (Pd), schizophrenia (Sc), and hypomania (Ma) in the 10 clinical personality scales were significantly positively correlated. Logistic regression analysis revealed that gender, ethnicity, frequency of communication with parents, and scores of hypochondriasis (Hs), depression (D), psychasthenia (Pt), paranoia (Pa), and hypomania (Ma) in the 10 clinical personality scales were the main influencing factors for test anxiety in first-year high school students (all p < 0.05)., Conclusion: The test anxiety level of high school students in Yanji City is relatively high, with variations in test anxiety levels among students of different genders, ethnicities, parental communication styles, and deviant personality traits. It is recommended that schools and teachers should give more consideration to test anxiety among high school students, particularly targeting those with potential risk factors. Molecular materials possessing switchable magneto-optical properties are of great interest due to their potential applications in spintronics and molecular devices. However, switching their photoluminescence (PL) and single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior via light-induced structural changes still constitutes a formidable challenge. Here, a series of cubane structures were synthesized via self-assembly of 9-anthracene carboxylic acid (HAC) and rare-earth ions. All complexes exhibited obvious photochromic phenomena and complete PL quenching upon Xe lamp irradiation, which were realized via the synergistic effect of photogenerated radicals and [4 + 4] photocycloaddition of the AC components. The quenched PL showed the largest fluorescence intensity change (99.72%) in electron-transfer photochromic materials. A reversible decoloration process was realized via mechanical grinding, which is unexpectedly in the electron-transfer photochromic materials. Importantly, an SMM behavior of the Dy analog was observed after room-temperature irradiation due to the photocycloaddition of AC ligands and the photogenerated stable radicals changed the electrostatic ligand field and magnetic coupling. Moreover, based on the remarkably photochromic and photoluminescent properties of these compounds, 2 demos were applied to support their application in information anti-counterfeiting and inkless printing. Metalation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been developed as a prominent strategy for materials functionalization for pore chemistry modulation and property optimization. By introducing exotic metal ions/complexes/nanoparticles onto/into the parent framework, many metallized MOFs have exhibited significantly improved performance in a wide range of applications. In this review, we focus on the research progress in the metalation of metal-organic frameworks during the last five years, spanning the design principles, synthetic strategies, and potential applications. Based on the crystal engineering principles, a minor change in the MOF composition through metalation would lead to leveraged variation of properties. This review starts from the general strategies established for the incorporation of metal species within MOFs, followed by the design principles to graft the desired functionality while maintaining the porosity of frameworks. Facile metalation has contributed a great number of bespoke materials with excellent performance, and we summarize their applications in gas adsorption and separation, heterogeneous catalysis, detection and sensing, and energy storage and conversion. The underlying mechanisms are also investigated by state-of-the-art techniques and analyzed for gaining insight into the structure-property relationships, which would in turn facilitate the further development of design principles. Finally, the current challenges and opportunities in MOF metalation have been discussed, and the promising future directions for customizing the next-generation advanced materials have been outlined as well.

Objective: This study compared the clinical therapeutic efficacy of syringo-subarachnoid shunt placement with direct tube and T-tube via the dorsal root entry zone (DREZ) approach for treatment of eccentric syringomyelia., Methods: A retrospective study was performed of 41 patients with idiopathic or secondary eccentric syringomyelia from November 2011 to December 2022. Syringo-subarachnoid shunt placement with direct tube or T-tube via the DREZ approach was performed. The modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association low back pain scale was used to investigate the severity of clinical symptoms. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to investigate therapeutic efficacy（reduction of the cavity volume by >10% was considered an improvement and 50% was considered a significant improvement)., Results: Incision length of the spinal cortex in the direct tube group was shorter than in the T-tube group (3.10 ± 0.28 cm vs. 5.03 ± 0.19 cm), with a significant difference between the 2 groups (t = -52.56, P < 0.001). Modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association score 3 months postoperatively was significantly better than the preoperative score in both the direct tube group（t = 40.954, P < 0.001） and the T-tube group（t = 24.769, P < 0.001）. Statistical comparison revealed there was no difference in imaging improvement between the direct tube group and T-tube group 3 months (χ 2  = 0.20, P = 0.655) and 12 months (χ 2  = 0.21, P = 0.647) postoperatively., Conclusions: Syringo-subarachnoid shunt placement with direct tube via the DREZ approach for treatment of eccentric syringomyelia is safer than with T-tube via the DREZ approach due to smaller incision length and less of a space-occupying effect with same therapeutic efficacy., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Inc. Fruit ripening is manipulated by the plant phytohormone ethylene in climacteric fruits. While the transcription factors (TFs) involved in ethylene biosynthesis and fruit ripening have been extensively studied in tomato, their identification in pear remains limited. In this study, we identified and characterized a HOMEODOMAIN TF, PbHB.G7.2, through transcriptome analysis. PbHB.G7.2 could directly bind to the promoter of the ethylene biosynthetic gene, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid synthase ( PbACS1b ), thereby enhancing its activity and resulting in increased ethylene production during pear fruit ripening. Yeast-two-hybrid screening revealed that PbHB.G7.2 interacted with PbHB.G1 and PbHB.G2.1. Notably, these interactions disrupted the transcriptional activation of PbHB.G7.2. Interestingly, PbHB.G1 and PbHB.G2.1 also bind to the PbACS1b promoter, albeit different regions from those bound by PbHB.G7.2. Moreover, the regions of PbHB.G1 and PbHB.G2.1 involved in their interaction with PbHB.G7.2 differ from the regions responsible for binding to the PbACS1b promoter. Nonetheless, these interactions also disrupt the transcriptional activation of PbHB.G1 and PbHB.G2.1. Luminescent metal clusters have attracted great interest in current research; however, the design synthesis of Al clusters with color-tunable luminescence remains challenging. Herein, an [Al 8 (OH) 8 (NA) 16 ] (Al 8 , HNA = nicotinic acid) molecular cluster with dual luminescence properties of fluorescence and room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) is synthesized by choosing HNA ligand as phosphor. Its prompt photoluminescence (PL) spectrum exhibits approximately white light emission at room temperature. Considering that halogen atoms can be used to regulate the RTP property by balancing the singlet and triplet excitons, different CdX 2 (X - = Cl - , Br - , I - ) are introduced into the reactive system of the Al 8 cluster, and three new Al 8 cluster-based metal-organic frameworks, {[Al 8 Cd 3 Cl 5 (OH) 8 (NA) 17 H 2 O]·2HNA} n (CdCl 2 -Al 8 ), {[Al 8 Cd 4 Br 7 (OH) 8 (NA) 16 CH 3 CN]·NA·HNA} n (CdBr 2 -Al 8 ) and {[Al 8 Cd 8 I 16 (OH) 8 (NA) 16 ]} n (CdI 2 -Al 8 ) are successfully obtained. They realize the color tunability from blue to yellow at room temperature. The origination of fluorescence and phosphorescence has also been illustrated by structure-property analysis and theoretical calculation. Background: Minimally invasive techniques for treatment-resistant migraine have been developed on recent insights into the peripheral pathogenesis of migraines. Although there is a growing body of evidence supporting these techniques, no study has yet compared the effects of these treatments on headache frequency, severity, duration, and cost., Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched to identify randomized placebo-controlled trials that compared radiofrequency ablation, botulinum toxin type A (BT-A), nerve block, neurostimulation, or migraine surgery to placebo for preventive treatment. Data on changes from baseline to follow-up in headache frequency, severity, duration, and quality of life were analyzed., Results: A total of 30 randomized controlled trials and 2680 patients were included. Compared with placebo, there was a significant decrease in headache frequency in patients with nerve block ( P = 0.04) and surgery ( P < 0.001). Headache severity decreased in all treatments. Duration of headaches was significantly reduced in the BT-A ( P < 0.001) and surgery cohorts ( P = 0.01). Quality of life improved significantly in patients with BT-A, nerve stimulator, and migraine surgery. Migraine surgery had the longest lasting effects (11.5 months) compared with nerve ablation (6 months), BT-A (3.2 months), and nerve block (11.9 days)., Conclusions: Migraine surgery is a cost-effective, long-term treatment to reduce headache frequency, severity, and duration without significant risk of complication. BT-A reduces headache severity and duration, but it is short-lasting and associated with greater adverse events and lifetime cost. The application of biochar can improve soil fertility and benefit sustainable agricultural development and carbon neutrality simultaneously. To better understand the effects of biochar addition on nitrogen transformation and N 2 O emission in a coastal saline-alkali soil and its potential mechanisms, we conducted a 60-day laboratory incubation experiment with six treatments, i.e ., ammonium sulfate (N 150 mg·kg -1 ), ammonium sulfate + 0.4% (weight/weight) biochar, ammonium sulfate + 0.6% biochar, ammonium sulfate + 0.8% biochar, ammonium sulfate + 1.6% biochar, and ammonium sulfate + 0.2% biochar and 0.2% organic fertilizer (based on equivalent N basis). The results showed that soil nitrogen transformation was mainly affected by biochar addition at the early stage of incubation. Biochar addition significantly increased the contents of nitrate and ammonium. Biochar addition significantly increased soil net nitrification rate, but the magnitude of such increases decreased with increasing biochar addition level. Similar temporal change patterns of N 2 O emissions were observed in all treatments, and the N 2 O emissions mainly occurred in the first 30 days of incubation. Compared with the CK, biochar addition significantly reduced the cumulative N 2 O emission, and the decrement increased with increasing biochar addition levels. In conclusion, the effects of biochar and nitrogen fertilizer addition on soil nitrogen transformation and N 2 O emission varied with the application rate. Biochar addition with a rate of 0.8% (W/W) increased soil inorganic nitrogen content and decreased soil N 2 O emission. It could provide theoretical basis and reference for the formulation of reasonable plans for the improvement and utilization of biochar in coastal saline-alkali soil.

To describe and analyze the current research status of life-space mobility of the older persons in community. The literature in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, EBSCOhost, Scopus, OpenGrey, SinoMed, CNKI, WanFang, and VIP databases was computer searched, and the time frame was build to May 23, 2023. A total of 42 literatures were included, including 35 in English and 7 in Chinese, 30 of which were cross-sectional studies. Theoretical models related to spatial mobility included the "concentric circles" model and the "cone" model. 33 literatures reported the prevalence or level of spatial mobility limitations, and 9 assessment instruments were used, The influencing factors can be divided into four categories. 9 literatures reported on the adverse effects, and 9 literatures reported on the prevention and intervention. Background: The evidence from observational studies has been inconclusive on the causal relationship between cheese intake and gestational hypertension or diabetes., Aim: To determine whether cheese consumption was causally related to hypertension and diabetes during pregnancy., Methods: This was a two-sample Mendelian randomized (MR) study. Summary-level genetic data for cheese intake was exposure and corresponding outcome data for gestational hypertension and gestational diabetes were extracted from the IEU OpenGWAS database. MR analysis was conducted using inverse variance weighting. For sensitivity analyses, MR-Egger regression, weighted median, weighted mode, and leave-one-out methods were conducted. A fixed-effect model was used to meta-analyze two sample MR estimates. The traits of gestational hypertension were pregnancy hypertension (123579 individuals) and oedema, proteinuria and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium (123579 individuals), and traits of gestational diabetes were gestational diabetes (123579 individuals) and diabetes mellitus in pregnancy (116363 individuals), respectively., Results: Cheese intake per standard deviation increase has causally reduced the risks of gestational hypertension [odds ratio (OR) = 0.60, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.47-0.76, P < 0.001] and gestational diabetes (OR = 0.41, 95%CI: 0.30-0.55, P < 0.001) in inverse variance weighted analysis. Color-tunable room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) with potential in many fields is of great importance but extremely challenging. It is necessary to comprehend the correlation between the molecular structure and property to design and synthesize such materials. Metal-organic coordination polymers (CPs) with good predesignability and precise structure have become a platform to construct RTP materials. Herein, three zinc-based CPs containing halogen and a flexible tetradentate ligand are synthesized. All of these CPs present two constant emission regions and an excitation-dependent emission region. Structure-property analysis shows that these emissions originate from isolated chromophores and dimerized chromophores as well as various charge transfers. The phosphorescence colors of these CPs can be modulated by excitation and temperature. This study provides a novel strategy to construct multicolor and multiresponsive RTP materials based on metal-organic coordination polymers.

The release of nitrogen and phosphorus from sediments into lake water will exacerbate the eutrophication of lakes and endanger ecological safety and human health. Microorganisms are indispensable in nitrogen and phosphorus conversion, and accurate analysis of the distribution characteristics and sources of nitrogen and phosphorus in sediments as well as their relationship with microorganisms is an important prerequisite for lake eutrophication control. Taking Taihu Lake as the study area, 30 surface sediment samples were collected, and the grain size, pH, organic matter (OM), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN), nitrate nitrogen (NO 3 - -N), and dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) along with some other index contents were measured and analyzed; accordingly, spatial distribution characteristics were analyzed. While using nutrient agar (NA), the number of aerobic bacteria (AB) was determined by plate counting in the medium. Combined with principal component analysis (PCA) and Pearson correlation analysis, the spatial distribution characteristics and sources of sediments and AB in Taihu Lake were explored. The characteristics of sediment pollution in Taihu Lake were studied using the comprehensive pollution index and the organic pollution index methods. The results revealed that the average sediment indicators of the surface layer of Taihu Lake were as follows:AB was 9.25×10 4 CFU·g -1 , average particle size ( M Z ) was 17.59 μm, pH was 7.62, ω (OM) was 15.05 g·kg -1 , ω (DOC) was 71.60 mg·kg -1 , ω (TP) was 598.13 mg·kg -1 , ω (TN) was 1113.92 mg·kg -1 , ω (NO 3 - -N) was 3.22 mg·kg -1 , and ω (DON) was 22.60 mg·kg -1 . The comprehensive pollution index (FF) showed that 13% of the Taihu Lake was moderately polluted, while 87% was heavily polluted. Excluding the area in the center of the lake, the southern lake area, and some lakes in the western part of the East Taihu Lake, TN in the rest of the area was moderately and severely polluted. In addition to the heavy pollution of Zhushan Bay, the TP in Taihu Lake was generally at light and moderate pollution. The organic pollution index (OI) showed that the organic pollution of the sediments of Taihu Lake was relatively light, majorly caused by organic nitrogen (ON) pollution. DOC, DON, TN, and OM in Taihu Lake were primarily derived from the influence of aquatic plants, and TP And AB were primarily derived from the influence of the external input of rivers. This research will provide theoretical support for lake eutrophication treatment and also provide new ideas for further analysis of AB to remove nitrogen and phosphorus pollution from sediments.

Objective: Ulcerative colitis (UC), a chronic inflammatory disease of the colon with unknown etiology, is characterized by remission and recurrence. At present, a considerable number of UC cases are misdiagnosed or delayed in diagnosis and treatment. We aimed to identify UC-related genes to aid the development of drugs for this condition., Patients and Methods: Transcriptome data of 362 patients with UC and 126 control subjects were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus. The 362 patients with UC were subgrouped using unsupervised machine learning. R software was used to analyze the clinical characteristics of the subgroups, screen subgroup-specific genes, assess the relationships between gene modules and clinical characteristics using weighted gene co-expression network analysis, and perform Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses of the subgroups., Results: Patients with UC were classified into two subgroups. Genes specific to subgroup I included IL21R, ATP8B2, and PLEKHO1. Severe disease tended to be associated with immune cell infiltration; anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α antibodies and ustekinumab may have been effective in this subgroup. Subgroup II-specific genes included SLC4A4, EPB41L4B, and PLCE1. Patients in this subgroup had mild clinical conditions; however, their disease was more likely to progress to colorectal cancer. Thus, 5-aminosalicylic acid-based drugs may be effective for the treatment of UC in these patients., Conclusions: We divided UC into two molecular subgroups based on transcriptome data, providing molecular evidence for the development of diagnostic methods and individualized treatment strategies for UC.

Objective: To explore the genetic characteristics of a family with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) caused by endoglin ( ENG ) gene mutations. Methods: A total of 17 individuals from a 3-generation HHT family attending the First Affiliated Hospital of Dali University were selected as the research subjects. Clinical data and familial disease status of the HHT family proband were collected. Whole exome sequencing technology was used to screen for suspected pathogenic genes in the proband, and Sanger sequencing was used for family validation. Results: The proband and her mother had recurrent epistaxis and skin mucosal telangiectasia, and enhanced CT scans of the chest of the proband and her mother, daughter, and cousin indicated the presence of varying degrees of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations. The results of the full exon sequencing results showed that the proband carried the ENG gene c.579&#95;599del non-shift deletion mutation, and Sanger sequencing showed that the mother, daughter, and cousin carried the same mutation. Conclusion: ENG gene c.579&#95; 599del mutation may be the genetic basis of HHT in this family.

Purpose: The gold standard for monitoring response status in patients with multiple myeloma (MM) is serum and urine protein electrophoresis which quantify M-spike proteins; however, the turnaround time for results is 3-7 days which delays treatment decisions. We hypothesized that machine learning (ML) could integrate readily available clinical and laboratory data to rapidly and accurately predict patient M-spike values., Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed using the deidentified, electronic medical records of 171 patients with MM., Results: Random forest (RF) analysis identified the weighted value of each independent variable (N = 43) integrated into the ML algorithm. Pearson and Spearman coefficients indicated that the ML-predicted M-spike values correlated highly with laboratory-measured serum protein electrophoresis values. Feature selected RF modeling revealed that only two variables-the first lagged M-spike and serum total protein-accurately predicted the M-spike., Conclusion: Taken together, our results demonstrate the feasibility and prognostic potential of ML tools that integrate electronic data to longitudinally monitor disease burden. ML tools support the seamless, secure exchange of patient information to expedite and personalize clinical decision making and overcome geographic, financial, and social barriers that currently limit the access of underserved populations to cancer care specialists so that the benefits of medical progress are not limited to selected groups.

Introduction: The evaluation of the quality of information (QOI) and clarity of information (COI) among oral health-related videos on the video-streaming Web site YouTube is scarce. This study evaluated QOI and COI regarding temporary anchorage devices contained within videos uploaded by dental professionals (DPs) on YouTube., Methods: YouTube videos were systematically acquired with 4 search terms. The top 50 videos per search term by the number of views were stored in a YouTube account. A set of inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied, videos were assessed for viewing characteristics, a 4-point scoring system (0-3) was applied to evaluate QOI in 10 predetermined domains, and a 3-point scoring system (0-2) was applied to evaluate COI. Descriptive statistical analyses and intrarater and interrater reliability tests were performed., Results: Strong intrarater and interrater reliability scores were observed. Sixty-three videos from the top 58 most-viewed DPs were viewed 1,395,471 times (range, 414-124,939). Most DPs originated from the United States (20%), and orthodontists (62%) uploaded most of the videos. The mean number of reported domains was 2.03 ± 2.40 (out of 10). The mean overall QOI score per domain was 0.36 ± 0.79 (out of 3). The "Placement of miniscrews" domain scored highest (1.23 ± 0.75). The "Cost of miniscrews placement" domain scored the lowest (0.03 ± 0.25). The mean overall QOI score per DP was 3.59 ± 5.64 (out of 30). The COI in 32 videos was immeasurable, and only 2 avoided using technical words., Conclusions: The QOI related to temporary anchorage devices contained within videos provided by DPs through the YouTube Web site is deficient, particularly in the cost of placement. Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is highly resistant to chemotherapy. Effective alternative therapies have yet to emerge, as chemotherapy remains the best available systemic treatment. However, the discovery of safe and available adjuncts to enhance chemotherapeutic efficacy can still improve survival outcomes. We show that a hyperglycemic state substantially enhances the efficacy of conventional single- and multi-agent chemotherapy regimens against PDAC. Molecular analyses of tumors exposed to high glucose levels reveal that the expression of GCLC (glutamate-cysteine ligase catalytic subunit), a key component of glutathione biosynthesis, is diminished, which in turn augments oxidative anti-tumor damage by chemotherapy. Inhibition of GCLC phenocopies the suppressive effect of forced hyperglycemia in mouse models of PDAC, while rescuing this pathway mitigates anti-tumor effects observed with chemotherapy and high glucose., (© 2023. Alveolar epithelial cell (AEC) senescence is implicated in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis (PF). However, the exact mechanism underlying AEC senescence during PF remains poorly understood. Here, we reported an unrecognized mechanism for AEC senescence during PF. We found that, in bleomycin (BLM)-induced PF mice, the expressions of isocitrate dehydrogenase 3α (Idh3α) and citrate carrier (CIC) were significantly down-regulated in the lungs, which could result in mitochondria citrate (citrate mt ) accumulation in our previous study. Notably, the down-regulation of Idh3α and CIC was related to senescence. The mice with AECs-specific Idh3α and CIC deficiency by adenoviral vector exhibited spontaneous PF and senescence in the lungs. In vitro , co-inhibition of Idh3α and CIC with shRNA or inhibitors triggered the senescence of AECs, indicating that accumulated citrate mt triggers AEC senescence. Mechanistically, citrate mt accumulation impaired the mitochondrial biogenesis of AECs. In addition, the senescence-associated secretory phenotype from senescent AECs induced by citrate mt accumulation activated the proliferation and transdifferentiation of NIH3T3 fibroblasts into myofibroblasts. Objectives: To investigate the distribution characteristics of non-bacterial pathogens in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children., Methods: A total of 1 788 CAP children admitted to Shenyang Children's Hospital from December 2021 to November 2022 were selected. Multiple RT-PCR and capillary electrophoresis were used to detect 10 viral pathogens and 2 atypical pathogens, and serum antibodies of Chlamydial pneumoniae (Ch) and Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) were detected. The distribution characteristics of different pathogens were analyzed., Results: Among the 1 788 CAP children, 1 295 children were pathogen-positive, with a positive rate of 72.43% (1 295/1 788), including a viral pathogen positive rate of 59.68% (1 067/1 788) and an atypical pathogen positive rate of 22.04% (394/1 788). The positive rates from high to low were MP, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza B virus (IVB), human metapneumovirus (HMPV), human rhinovirus (HRV), human parainfluenza virus (HPIV), influenza A virus (IVA), bocavirus (BoV), human adenovirus (HADV), Ch, and human coronavirus (HCOV). RSV and MP were the main pathogens in spring; MP had the highest positive rate in summer, followed by IVA; HMPV had the highest positive rate in autumn; IVB and RSV were the main pathogens in winter. The positive rate of MP in girls was higher than that in boys ( P <0.05), and there were no significant differences in other pathogens between genders ( P >0.05). The positivity rates of certain pathogens differed among age groups ( P <0.05): the positivity rate of MP was highest in the >6 year-old group; the positivity rates of RSV and Ch were highest in the <1 year-old group; the positivity rates of HPIV and IVB were highest in the 1 to <3 year-old group. RSV, MP, HRV, and HMPV were the main pathogens in children with severe pneumonia, while MP was the primary pathogen in children with lobar pneumonia, and MP, IVB, HMPV, RSV, and HRV were the top 5 pathogens in acute bronchopneumonia., Conclusions: MP, RSV, IVB, HMPV, and HRV are the main pathogens of CAP in children, and there are certain differences in the positive rates of respiratory pathogens among children of different ages, genders, and seasons.

This work presents a strategy for independent control of the amplitude and phase of transmissive circular-polarization (CP) waves. The designed meta-atom consists of an elliptical-polarization receiver and a CP transmitter. By changing the axial ratio (AR) and polarization of the receiver, amplitude modulation can be realized based on polarization mismatching theory, with negligible cumbrous components. While by rotating the element, a full phase coverage enabled by the geometric phase is achieved. Subsequently, a CP transmitarray antenna (TA) with high gain and low side-lobe level (SLL) is implemented to experimentally validate our strategy, and the tested results match well with the simulated ones. During the operating band from 9.6 to 10.4 GHz, the proposed TA obtains an average SLL of -24.5 dB, a lowest SLL of -27.7 dB at 9.9 GHz, and a maximum gain of 19 dBi at 10.3 GHz, with the measured AR lower than 1 dB, which mainly benefits from high polarization purity (HPP) of the proposed elements. The proposed strategy for full amplitude-phase manipulation of CP waves together with HPP paves a way for complicated field manipulations and indicates a promising candidate in antenna applications, such as anti-jamming systems and wireless communications.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major public health problem in Sierra Leone, yet reliable estimates of cases are lacking. This study aimed to provide an estimate of the national prevalence of chronic HBV infection in the general population and select groups in Sierra Leone. We used the electronic databases PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and African Journals Online to systematically review articles reporting hepatitis B infection surface antigen seroprevalence estimates in Sierra Leone during 1997-2022. We estimated pooled HBV seroprevalence rates and assessed potential sources of heterogeneity. Of 546 publications screened, 22 studies with a total sample size of 107,186 people were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of chronic HBV infection was 13.0% (95% CI, 10.0-16.0) (I2 = 99%; Pheterogeneity < 0.01). During the study period, the HBV prevalence rates were as follows: 17.9% (95% CI, 6.7-39.8) before 2015, 13.3% (95% CI, 10.4-16.9) during 2015-2019, and 10.7% (95% CI, 7.5-14.9) during 2020-2022. The use of the 2020-2022 HBV prevalence estimates corresponded to 870,000 cases of chronic HBV infection (uncertainty interval, 610,000-1,213,000), or approximately one in nine people. The highest HBV seroprevalence estimates were among adolescents aged 10-17 years (17.0%; 95% CI, 8.8-30.5), Ebola survivors (36.8%; 95% CI, 26.2-48.8), people living with HIV (15.9%; 95% CI, 10.6-23.0), and those in the Northern Province (19.0%; 95% CI, 6.4-44.7) and Southern Province (19.7%; 95% CI, 10.9-32.8) regions. These findings may help inform national HBV program implementation in Sierra Leone.

A new birefringent crystal of Sb 4 O 3 (TeO 3 ) 2 (HSO 4 )(OH) was achieved by incorporating two stereochemically active lone pair (SCALP) cations of Sb(III) and Te(IV) into sulfates simultaneously. The Sb 3+ and Te 4+ ions display highly distorted coordination environments due to the SCALP effect. Sb 4 O 3 (TeO 3 ) 2 (HSO 4 )(OH) displays a 3D structure composed of [Sb 4 O 3 (TeO 3 ) 2 (OH)] ∞ + layers bridged by [SO 3 (OH)] - tetrahedra. It possesses a large birefringence and a wide optical transparent range, making it a new UV birefringent crystal. First-principles calculation analysis suggests that the synergistic effect of the cooperation of SCALP effect of Sb 3+ and Te 4+ cations make a dominant contribution to the birefringence. The work highlights that units with SCALP cations have advantages in generating large optical anisotropy and are preferable structural units for designing novel birefringent materials.

Mutations in the extracellular matrix gene Fibrillin-2 (FBN2) are related to genetic macular degenerative disorders including age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and early-onset macular degeneration (EOMD). It was reported that the retinal protein expression of FBN2 was reduced in patients with AMD and EOMD. The effect of exogenously supplied fbn2 recombinant protein on fbn2-deficiency-related retinopathy was not known. Here we investigated the efficacy and molecular mechanism of intravitreally applied fibrin-2 recombinant protein in mice with fbn2-deficient retinopathy. The experimental study included groups (all n = 9) of adult C57BL/6J male mice which underwent no intervention, intravitreal injection of adeno-associated virus (AAV) empty vector or intravitreal injection of AAV-sh-fbn2 (adeno-associated virus for expressing short hairpin RNA for fibrillin-2) followed by three intravitreal injections of fbn2 recombinant protein, given in intervals of 8 days in doses of 0.30 μg, 0.75 μg, 1.50 μg, and 3.00 μg, respectively. Eyes with intravitreally applied AAV-sh-fbn2 as compared to eyes with injection of AAV-empty vector or developed an exudative retinopathy with involvement of the deep retinal layers, reduction in axial length and reduction in ERG amplitudes. After additional and repeated application of fbn2 recombinant protein, the retinopathy improved with an increase in retinal thickness and ERG amplitude, the mRNA and protein expression of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β1) and TGF-β binding protein (LTBP-1) increased, and axial length elongated, with the difference most marked for the dose of 0.75 μg of fbn2 recombinant protein. Significance: Uncorrected refractive error is the main cause of visual impairment in U.S. youth and has profound impacts on individuals and society. Identifying and addressing barriers to eyeglasses in this population are critical to maximize youth academic performance, workplace productivity, and quality of life., Purpose: We aimed to understand youth experiences with eye health, assess the value that youth place on vision, and identify barriers to refractive correction directly from a nationwide sample of youth to inform interventions to address uncorrected refractive error in this population., Methods: An open-ended poll was distributed to the MyVoice Text Message Cohort of U.S. youth eliciting youth experiences with eye health and barriers to wearing eyeglasses. Text message responses were coded using grounded theory., Results: Of 1204 recipients, 88.3% (n = 1063) responded. The mean age ± standard deviation was 20.3 ± 2.4 years, 58.8% (n = 625) were male, 74.0% (n = 787) were White, and 41.4% (n = 440) reported low socioeconomic status. Four major themes emerged from the open-ended responses: (1) many youth have experienced problems with their eyes or eyesight (n = 699 [65.8%]); (2) many youth value their eyesight highly (n = 905 [85.1%]; e.g., "Eyesight is one of the most important aspects of my health, particularly in our digital world…"); (3) common reasons youth might not wear glasses even if they need them include concerns over appearance (n = 553 [52.0%]; e.g., "I thought every pair made me look ugly…"), cost (n = 171 [16.1%]), inconvenience (n = 166 [15.6%]), and discomfort (n = 104 [9.8%]); and (4) youth are open to purchasing eyeglasses online (n = 539 [50.7%])., Conclusions: Appearance, cost, inconvenience, and discomfort are critical barriers to wearing eyeglasses among U.S. youth. Immune and inflammatory responses have an important function in the pathophysiology of pulmonary hypertension (PH). However, little is known about the immune landscape in peripheral circulation in patients with high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). We apply single-cell transcriptomics to characterize the monocytes that are significantly enriched in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of HAPH patients. We discover an increase in C1 (non-classical) and C2 (intermediate) monocytes in PBMCs and a decrease in hypoxia-inducible transcription factor-1α (HIF-1α) in all monocyte subsets associated with HAPH. In addition, we demonstrate that similar immune adaptations may exist in HAPH and PH. Overall, we characterize an immune cell atlas of the peripheral blood in HAPH patients. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Enterobacteriales infections have become an urgent global threat to public health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of zidovudine-amikacin combination therapy in vitro and in vivo . Molecular characteristics and antibiotic resistance profiles of 53 amikacin-resistant MDR, extensively drug-resistant (XDR), or pan-drug-resistant (PDR) clinical isolates were examined via PCR and susceptibility testing. Checkerboard assays were performed for these 53 isolates to assess in vitro synergistic effects of the zidovudine-amikacin combination, and static time-kill experiments were performed for four XDR or PDR Enterobacteriales isolates. A Galleria mellonella model and a rat tissue cage infection model were established to assess in vivo synergistic effects. The aac(6')-Ib gene was detected in 25 (47.2%) isolates, followed by armA in 5 (9.4%) isolates, rmtB in 27 (50.9%) isolates, and rmtC in 3 (5.8%) isolates. Checkerboard assays showed the synergy of this combination against 38 (71.7%) isolates. The time-kill assays further confirmed that zidovudine strongly synergized with amikacin against four XDR or PDR Enterobacteriales isolates. The Galleria mellonella model study showed that the survival benefit of zidovudine-amikacin combination therapy was significantly better than that of monotherapy for those four Enterobacteriales isolates. Furthermore, the rat tissue cage infection model study showed that zidovudine-amikacin combination therapy displayed more potent bactericidal activity than monotherapy after 3 and 7 days of treatment for the above four isolates. Our data support the idea that the zidovudine-amikacin combination could be a plausible alternative therapy against infections with amikacin-resistant MDR Enterobacteriales , especially with XDR and PDR Enterobacteriales . IMPORTANCE Our study revealed for the first time that the zidovudine-amikacin combination shows a significant bactericidal effect against amikacin-resistant MDR, XDR, and PDR Enterobacteriales . Second, using in vitro and in vivo approaches, our study showed that zidovudine strongly synergized with amikacin against amikacin-resistant MDR Enterobacteriales isolates. Most importantly, with regard to survival benefit, pharmacokinetics, and bactericidal effects, our in vivo experiment demonstrated the effectiveness of zidovudine-amikacin.

A critical function of animal movement is to maximize access to essential resources in temporally fluctuating and spatially heterogeneous environments. Seasonally mediated resource fluctuations may influence animal movements, enabling them to track changing resource distributions, resulting in annual migration patterns. The conservation-dependent giant panda ( Ailuropoda melanoleuca ) displays seasonal movement patterns; however, the key factor driving these seasonal migration patterns remains poorly understood. Here, we used GPS tracking collars to monitor the movements of six giant pandas over a 12-year period across different elevations, and performed statistical analysis of seasonal migration directions, routes, habitat revisitation, home range overlap, first arrival events, and stability. Our results revealed a compelling pattern of seasonal migrations that facilitated the ability of the pandas to forage at the appropriate time and place to maximize nutritional intake. Our results indicated that pandas utilize spatial memory to locate reliable food resources, as evidenced by their annual return to the same or similar winter and summer home ranges and the consistently maintained percentage of home range overlap. These novel insights into giant panda foraging and movement ecology not only enhance our understanding of its ability to adapt to nutritionally poor dietary resources but also provide important information for the development of resource utilization-based protection and management strategies.

Metallic clusters, assembled by functional motifs, possess the attribute of regulating the properties by changing inorganic and organic components. In this work, a series of aluminum-oxo clusters, [Al 6 O(dmp) 4 (Hdmp) 2 ]·2 i PrOH [ Al 6 -1 , H 3 dmp = 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid], [Al 6 (H 2 thmmg) 6 ]·2DMF·2H 2 O [ Al 6 -2 , H 5 thmmg = N -tris(hydroxymethyl)methylglycine], [Al 8 (OH) 4 (NAP-OH) 12 (MeO) 7 (MeOH)]Cl·7MeCN·3MeOH ( Al 8 , HNAP-OH = 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid), and [Al 10 (NA) 10 (MeO) 20 ] ( Al 10 , HNA = nicotinic acid), were obtained based on different carboxylic acids, realizing metallic ring size enlargement from 5.91 to 9.32 Å. They all exhibit good chemical stability. Importantly, the Al 8 cluster displays obvious photochromic behavior from pale yellow to orange yellow, originating from the generation of photoinduced radicals in the metal-assisted ligand-ligand electron transfer process of 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (HNAP-OH). This work enriches the metal ring cluster chemistry and reports the example of the aluminum-oxo cluster-based photochromic material, developing a novel system of photochromic materials.

Objectives: To test the feasibility of using 3D MRF maps with radiomics analysis and machine learning in the characterization of adult brain intra-axial neoplasms., Methods: 3D MRF acquisition was performed on 78 patients with newly diagnosed brain tumors including 33 glioblastomas (grade IV), 6 grade III gliomas, 12 grade II gliomas, and 27 patients with brain metastases. Regions of enhancing tumor, non-enhancing tumor, and peritumoral edema were segmented and radiomics analysis with gray-level co-occurrence matrices and gray-level run-length matrices was performed. Statistical analysis was performed to identify features capable of differentiating tumors based on type, grade, and isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH1) status. Receiver operating curve analysis was performed and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated for tumor classification and grading. For gliomas, Kaplan-Meier analysis for overall survival was performed using MRF T1 features from enhancing tumor region., Results: Multiple MRF T1 and T2 features from enhancing tumor region were capable of differentiating glioblastomas from brain metastases. Although no differences were identified between grade 2 and grade 3 gliomas, differentiation between grade 2 and grade 4 gliomas as well as between grade 3 and grade 4 gliomas was achieved. MRF radiomics features were also able to differentiate IDH1 mutant from the wild-type gliomas. Radiomics T1 features for enhancing tumor region in gliomas correlated to overall survival (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: Radiomics analysis of 3D MRF maps allows differentiating glioblastomas from metastases and is capable of differentiating glioblastomas from metastases and characterizing gliomas based on grade, IDH1 status, and survival., Key Points: • 3D MRF data analysis using radiomics offers novel tissue characterization of brain tumors. • 3D MRF with radiomics offers glioma characterization based on grade, IDH1 status, and overall patient survival., (© 2022.
